Discovering the deeper meaning of Easter

By: Manon Ladeyn Many celebrate the holidays in different ways, whether it is from a religious side or a non-religious side, they both have fun and enjoy the time. Sophomore Brendan Rehmel-Quinones is on the nonreligious side, but celebrates with passion. “My family wakes up early in the morning, the day after decorating eggs,” he said. “Eggs are hidden all over the backyard and maybe one present hidden somewhere in the house.” When the word Easter comes up, RehmelQuinones thinks of bunnies and eggs. “The Easter egg represents happiness and joy,” Rehmel-Quinones said. “The Easter egg gives me happy thoughts that makes me just wake up feeling really joyful.” While most people celebrate this holiday, certain see the deeper meaning of Easter, but don’t celebrate. Easter can be seen differently

Junior, Karla Estrada, is Christian and does not celebrate any holidays. “Well Easter for me is the resurrection of Christ and people celebrate it on a specific Sunday,” Estrada said. On Easter day, Estrada does anything she would do any other day. “For me it’s a regular day,” she said. While Estrada doesn’t celebrate, she still has some concerns about secular people who celebrate this day. “I feel like they are grabbing a day that means something that is not celebrated by some religions, due to the fact that they changed it to a bunny

and eggs,” Estrada said. “It is not right to me.” Estrada’s religion is a way of living and the belief system has guided her to be who she has become. Her parents held a major role in the process. “Well my parents never held me to believe in the Easter bunny and eggs,” Estrada said. “They have taught me that we celebrate the resurrection everyday by trying to be good people.” Even though Easter is a religious holiday, many see different reasons to celebrate. Junior, Halle Hirschi is a religious person who still celebrates holidays. While Hirschi has little
sisters, the game of Easter is especially fun. “On Easter Sunday, the Easter bunny comes and delivers eggs and goodie bags, after that my family and I go to church,” Hirschi said. Being a Mormon, she has received much knowledge of life and it has showed her the way to becoming a better person. Everyone has a different view toward holidays and while most don’t celebrate, some celebrate while still having a different definition of the holiday. “The Easter egg represents a gift, our real gift is Jesus Christ,” Hirschi said. “My family and I celebrate Easter to show thanks to Jesus Christ; he is the reason we celebrate it after all.” Holidays can be celebrated in many different ways and with different religious view. Either way everyone can spend a good time with their family and enjoys the time that is given.
Enforcing the immigration law

By:Katherine Teran From deporing innocent people, to banding you because of your religion. This is what our country has come too. The United States of America is known for being “the land of the free” is now banding you for your race. This country was made so we won’t be afraid to be different, but now we are afraid to even show our religion. President Donald J. Trump is deporting people everyday. “Deporting criminals is okay but why the innocent people who have not done anything,” say a protester. While meeting with different people, they all gave different answers. An ex pharmacist by the name of Laura Reyes
“What makes us so different, to the point you hate us and want to kick us out?” -Natalie Lorenzano had interesting an opinion. When asked what she thought of the enforcement of the immigration law she said “I’m glad they are enforcing it, but they should enforce it on the criminals,” Speaking with an immigrant, Marina Ramirez, she said “I am very afraid, I never did anything bad in my life with this president, we don’t know what’s to come, I am not only afraid for me but for my kids,” Marina Ramirez is a single working mother
of four kids. Asked what she thought of the new immigration law, she said, “it’s scary, they are deporting innocent people. I understand the law when it comes to deporting criminals, but when you are separating innocent people from their families, it is just wrong,” The immigration law is a law that basically states if you come to the United States of America without papers you have to return to your country. If you do not have
papers and you get in trouble with the law you get deported right away. Natalie Lorenzano, a CSN worker, said “this state is said it is the land of the free, yet it deports innocent people over the smallest of this, just because we come from a different place, speak different languages or are different color skin, doesn’t mean anything, we all bleed, we all cry, we all go to the restroom. So what makes us so different, to the point you have to hate us.” What will happen to this country in a few years? What will president Trump make of this country? No one knows the answer to these question, but what we do know is we have to stay united and not let racism take over.

Women’s Appreciation Month shows praise to girls all around

By: Presley Cole Women have helped make the world go round. If it weren’t for women, how far would people have really come? This March, Women’s appreciation month gives everyone an opportunity to look back at all the amazing things women and girls have done throughout time. Junior Sarah Stephenson, considers her strong female role model as Beyoncé. “She affects me musically, changes my outlooks on music and society,” Stephenson said. On the topic of how celebrated woman are, Stephenson thinks it can range

a big figure in his life. “She works hard and gives me everything I need,” Portugal expresses. Portugal had a different perspective about women appreciation. “Women don’t get enough attention, we need to praise them more,” he said. Sebastian Portugal shows his appreciation for his mother by thanking her on the daily and knows in the future that he will repay her for all she has done for him. Junior Emily Hardesty
speaks very highly of her grandmother. “She helps with a lot of problems I have going on, she’s there for me,” Hardesty said. Hardesty, also like Stephenson, didn’t know about Women’s history month. “I didn’t even know it was a thing, honestly,” she admits.“We should go towards social media to try and raise more awareness on the month, maybe posters around the school or an assembly.” All in all, if one has a strong women figure in their life, be sure to take a step back and thank them for all they’ve done. They deserve it.
Calabrese puts math

By Ben Martinez and Rhea Colli An intellect for business and math takes one woman on a journey as an educator. Ms. Victoria Calabrese is a teacher with 15 years of experience under her belt. She also has a business background that upholds her title as a tax professional. Calabrese took the dive to become a teacher when realizing that she wanted to impact society by helping individuals rather than just assist-

Due to her understanding of math and business, she decided that would be the field in which students could best utilize her assistance. Pioneer Tax Ventures was said to be one of Calabrese’s largest
achievements within the last three years. Like any accomplishment, it all started with a decision of action. “I had to make that decision to do it,” Calabrese said. Once I made that decision to do it, it was pretty easy to do.”
Not only that, however Calabrese also prides herself on helping students pass their math proficiencies. When separated from her teaching and tax service professions, Calabrese enjoys watching movies, exercise, and socialize with friends and family. If Calabrese were able to craft her own world and choose any occupation, a singing profession would be one of the first things on her list. Calabrese enjoys the FEATURES

thought of being able to entertain crowds of people with the talent she would like to have. Although not the hazardous thrill seeking daredevil, Calabrese is full of adventures. Such as the time when she traveled to Europe to meet her aunt to discover the area. She also packed her car in the past and drove solo across the country to San Francisco. “I grow and learn from my experiences.” Calabrese said when questioned on how she would reflect on her teenage years. Although like any individual she too makes mistakes, she decides not to dwell on the past and instead to look and focus into the future. When asked to summarize his thoughts on Ms. Calabrese, senior Jeremy Garcia said that he truly enjoys how Calabrese brings in her own real world experiences in order to bring in a new element into the teaching rather than just referring to a textbook. Junior Lawrence Pray said, that Calabrese distinguishes herself from other teachers with her unique teaching style but feels as though she isn’t getting the respect 8

she deserves for all her hard work throughout the classes. Calabrese is comparable to a hidden gem in the sea in the sense that she has gone under the radar. However, her character is incomparable to that of others.
Fun Fact: Calabrese is in the progress of creating a habitat for her pet turtles eggs.

Giving Bonanza a positive atmosphere

Celebrating Dude. Be Nice. By Kiana Silva-Hall Every little girl and boy is told by their parents to be nice, now Bonanza High School has a week devoted to just that. That week is called Dude. Be nice. The week is about showing respect to one another and encouraging friendly behavior to everyone in school. Sophomore student council member, Mikayla Harris sees the week as a time to celebrate being kind to not only the student, but also the faculty, administrators and the teachers. Dude. Be nice. encourages people to give respect to others. “Some guy wanted to encourage niceness to humans and it ended up spreading
worldwide,” Harris said. Harris has noticed that everyone in school started to be more nice and positive when Dude. Be nice started. “It affected everyone in a positive way,” Harris said. If

On compliment day student council gives out a yarn to anyone who gives a compliment. They also thank everyone for participating. Dude. Be nice. is between March 13th and March 17th because it works with the school schedule and it’s sort of a traditional time. Also, on March 17th there will be an assembly with an unknown inspirational speaker. Student Council can see Dude. Be nice. sticking around for the next upcoming years because it’s a good thing to have. People look forward to watch what rewards they can get and want to see what speaker we’ll have. “It’s a big deal for the county,” Harris said. “It’s something all the
school have in common.” Sophomore student council member Katya Garcia believes that student council just wanted to dedicate a week to those people who are doing nice things and reward them. Sometime during the week student council gives out pins with nice compliments on them. She agrees that everyone gets affected by this week. “They get the idea of being nice stuck in their head so eventually they do something nice for someone,” Garcia said. If people were to get rid of Dude. Be nice. she thinks that people would act differently. “They wouldn’t say ‘please or thank you’ and they wouldn’t acknowledge what student council does for the

Garcia can see that when giving out the pins, it helps remind the students to do an act of kindness such as saying “thank you” or holding the door open. She hopes that Dude. Be nice. week will stick around for a while to always spread the positivity. Students around the school are seen participating every year. Sophomore Aaron Meyers is all for this week. “I think it’s a good thing so people have a reminder about being nice to everyone once in awhile because what goes around comes around,” Meyers said. Meyers noticed that during Dude. Be nice. every one smiles more; especially the faculty. Meyers can see himself as a “pretty chill and

laid back person” so he supposes that he participates for spirit week. His favorite day would be compliment day and the assembly. “I like how everyone shows their school spirit at assemblies,” Meyers said. Meyers definitely enjoyed last year’s assembly. He liked how the speaker did a trick with water and interacted with the crowd instead of just talking. Meyers finds the assembly necessary because it gives the students something to look forward to, sort of like a treat so it makes them act nice and not rude. In Dude. Be nice. week Meyers looks forward to seeing people compliment each other. When Meyers sees a person do something nice in

the hallways he thinks, “that’s a pretty nice person.” During the week, student council gives out rewards to people. Meyers agrees that giving out awards is a helpful thing because he believes it shows that there are nice
people and it makes people want to be nicer and makes them feel good about themselves. Meyers is all for Dude. Be nice. staying for the following years. “Yes, because people need to be nice,” Meyers said.

By: Ariana Monclova Mr. Bengal. When senior boys come to show off one of their many talents to win over Bonanza High School judges. The boys performance overall was a entertaining success and better than ever. The begging performance is what really set it off when the boys performance was of them dancing to a verity of songs that were trending through out the year so far. The dance was choreographed by some of our Bonanza dance students. The boys had been practicing up to a week and a half for the performance they planned to give. “ Practice is pretty fun we all have some pretty cool stuff to show and perform, I’m personally not the best dance but I try my
best to do good in the introduction dance we have going on.” Elias Aguilar said. Mr. Bengal is a way for guys to experience the closest thing to a beauty pageant. “Its fun, festive, and overall a great experience.” Senior Noah Egbert said. It’s a fun event for seniors to experience something to remember for their last year. Bonanza has been organizing this event for no more than 10 years and it has been a overall success to the school. For this year, Mr. Bengal seniors Elias Aguilar, Noah Egbert, Ammon Montengro, Weston Clark, Kody Child, Tyler Bridgeman, Fabian Kaiwi, Michael Diribia, and Gary Gutierrez will be competing. The boys will be competing
in categories such as most charitable, most photogenic, king of hearts, talented, most important person towards you, and a dance off. Although there were slight technical difficulty the performance of the boys was great. Diribia performed “Petty” by Starrkiesha, Elias Aguilar and Noah Egbert sang Lead Me Out Of The Dark by Crown The Empire and played piano, Tyler Bridgeman reenacted a scene form Pitch Perfect, Kody Child reenacted A Whole New World from Aladdin with his brother playing as the beautiful and lovely Jasmine, and Gary Gutierrez sang an original song that he wrote, and Ammon Montengro performed a beautiful piece o
the cello. “ I’ve learned how to play cello in middle school and ever since I enjoyed it. It’s a great instrument to play I love the melody of it.” Another categories that people seemed to take a strong liking towards is the “ Who is the most important person towards you?” in this categories the boys were asked to bring the most important or inspired person they have in their life to the stage. After they are brought up to the stage the boys give a speech as to why that person is important and the person then receives a rose. Aguilar brought up his mother, Child took his girlfriend, and Kaiwi brought his best friend who unfortunately couldn’t make it that night to the show but was

The final winner of the Mr. Bengal was Wenston Clark. The judges scores says he gave an overall great performance towards the competition and did phenomenal.

A day dedicated to puppies

By: Jayla Griffith March 23rd is National Puppy Day in the United States and it is dedicated to puppies all over America. It is a sponsored day to not only love your dogs on this special occasion, but also to rescue and adopt. It’s like a Valentines Day dedicated to puppies. This year it is the 10th anniversary of this adorable holiday, and its very underrated because several people had no idea that it even existed. Other people though have ideas in mind to celebrating this day with their loved pups. Delaney Parrish says she has a pitbull, but was not aware this was a holiday. “The best thing about owning a puppy is that they cuddle with you,” Parrish said. “I definitely see a dog in my

She says that puppies are
loveable, energetic and super supportive, and that’s the best thing about owning one. “I hope to have kids and let them have a puppy or multiple, because they are known to release stress with kids and they will have a companion,” Henneberry said. This day should be an opportunity to show off dogs, hug them, love them and treat them extra special. Henneberry believes this day was created because puppies need to be celebrated for all of the happiness that they bring to the world. Nicole Tarraf has two
boxers at home that she loves and adores. Tarraf said she just is now finding out about this day and that it is the most amazing day ever created. “My family and I are all huge dog lovers, especially puppies,” Tarraf said “I try and convince my mom to buy a new one nearly every week.” The best thing about owning a dog is that they’re always there for their owners. “A dog is the best support, but mostly a cuddly puppy is even better,” Tarraf said. Tarraf definitely sees a puppy in her future; she just can’t choose because she wants them all. The best way to devote to this holiday is to play with dogs or puppies and show them much love. “Take a day off if you have to, because puppies are important,” Taraff said.

Remedies to stop spring sneezes

By: Sara Curtis The official day of spring has sprung, and so has allergy season. Some suggested medications to treat these symptoms are doctored prescribed steroids, antihistamine, decongestant, eye decongestant, bronchodilator, anti-inflammatory and querctin. There are also some more natural alternatives. Some might be cheaper than medications. Nettle peppermint tea, gives a natural boost of energy, relieves sneezing runny nose, itchy watery eyes and sore throat. Citrus drinks have vitamin C, calcium, potassium, foliates, and vitamin A,

which also helps. Red onion water, contains vitamin C and regulates blood sugar. Apple walnut trail mix contains antioxidants, energy, and proteins. Bee pollen contains nearly all nutrients required by humans and it’s rich in proteins and amino acids. Raw honey has 22 amino acids, 22 minerals and 5000 enzymes. Apple cider vinegar can help with weight loss, lower blood sugar and improved symptoms of diabetes. Aromatherapy can also help with allergies. For example an aromatherapy bath, with two cups of Epsom salt, one cup of sea salt, one and a half cups of balking soda, five drops of eucalyptus oil,

five drops of lavender oil, five drops of peppermint oil, five drops of tea tree oil, and one tbsp. of carrier oil. With spring brings bugs and bug bites, an oatmeal and chamomile bath can help soothe those irritating itchy bites. What is needed for this is to place equal parts of oatmeal and chamomile into cheesecloth and soak it in a warm tub of water. Also remember the cheesecloth for the drain does not get clogged. There is also the option of a neti pot. The benefits of a neti pot are relief from dryness, a gentle rinse away from extra mucus, rinse away dust pollen and other irritants.
SBO probiotics are soil-based organisms that help defend pathogens. Saline rinse restores moisture and may help with inflammation. Eucalyptus essential oil can also help with allergies. It can act as an anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, decongestant, deodorant and an antibacterial. Frankincense essential oil is an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, disinfectant, and digestive. Peppermint oil if inhaled can sometimes immediately help with sinuses and offer relief to sore throats. Lemon oil supports the lymphatic symptom drainage and also helps with overcoming respiratory conditions. Hopefully it helps.

Spring cleaning mentally and physically is necessary By: Rhea Colli Stress. School. Work. It’s definitely necessary to cleanse the mind and body, to get rid of bad thoughts and negative energy. It’s time for a spring cleaning. To be under so much pressure and tension, sometimes a break is needed to relax and take a breather. The school year is almost over and every students’ mindsets are scattered everywhere. “I’m terrified and relieved all at once,” Sonora Edmonston, junior at Bonanza, said. Most students feel as though that they don’t need to reinvent themselves, but improve on their troubled areas, such as classes. It’s essential to take a step back when the weight becomes overwhelming and unmanageable, and the best way to handle it is to accomplish one thing at a

to be made. Whether that may be sacrificing the enjoyment of school or doing work that is unnecessary, the goal is to succeed, have to get it done no matter what the situation is. Some students have realized their errors and their most weak areas of work. “I regret taking this pre-calculus class,” Gabriel Alvarez, junior at Bonanza, said, “I’m horrible at math.” It’s okay to feel discouraged sometimes; everyone gets like that at one point. The best remedy to get rid of that feeling is to move on and get over it. To dwell on certain things will never get anyone anywhere. To cleanse the mind and body, the first step must be let everything go, to let the new information soak in.

Spring fashion in full swing for ‘17

By: Melissa I Diaz From off the shoulder tops to distressed jeans and men with goatee’ to blazers. With the New Year, this season men and women prepare for spring with the latest fashion. Spring is the season that is transitioning from winter to summer. Spring is a beautiful time of the year for many different outfits. Wedding day. Women are really presentable when dressing. A woman should show color for example with spring colors, colors that pop and set the mood of the outfit. Perhaps bright colors, for instance on a late night at a party or a date night. A short dress with exquisite colorful patterns and a pair of plain heels should do it. Mr. and Mrs., on a wedding day for a wedding dress you would want to look good but not too good so you don’t look better than the bride. You would want to look formal and

classy. You wear one of the colors of the wedding as your dress and you can wear some beige stilettos to top it off. Dress code. It can be an issue, maybe the shorts are too short or those spaghetti straps are too skinny. When dressing for a school day. You have to be precise with what you’re wearing. Perhaps you can wear some denim jeans with some slip-ons and a t-shirt. This outfit is a casual outfit on any typical school day. There are many different things that you can wear on a spring day. You could wear some denim pants, a white t-shirt, some sandal’s and to top it off with a denim jacket. Or you can wear an off- the shoulder top with highwasted pants and some flats. Always remember to show some color when dressing. Accessories. Sunglasses, hairstyles, shoes and handbags. Accessories are the most important things when dressing, you can always add a little more to it. Accessories

By: Iris Thaoxaochay Today millennials pursue jobs dealing with the medical, technological, and engineering fields because of our new modern era, but what will our future look like? What our generation aspires to be can shape what the future will look like, so taking a look into our generation’s career paths can be very informative. Millennials, many of our older siblings, pursued medical fields, hospitality and leisure jobs. However most millennials are known for jobhopping Before them Generation X, most of our parents, was more independent and with the rise of technology and education had more qualifications for jobs. They were mostly entrepreneurs, businessmen and mostly anything independent.
Even before them Baby Boomers, most of our grandparents, pursued medical and educational fields. They’re known for their workaholic nature, their labor-intensive spirit and inability with technology. Obviously everyone wants to do different things, but with technology rising faster than ever it’s safe to say most of Generation Z, that’s anyone born from 1996 to 2010, will pursue a technological career. Careers like graphic design, computer security and computer sciences are all highly sought after, revolving around new advancements. Schools today stress and expose jobs in the STEM field as well, and that seems to have planted many seeds for our future. Students are looking at science jobs like doctors, surgeons, ultrasound technicians, marine biologists, psychologists, biologists, vet-
erinarians and neonatologists. The medical field has not gone unforgotten, and with the retirement of Baby Boomers in the field, Generation Z will hopefully fill their shoes. However the arts have not been forgotten as the Internet and television have exposed youths to many options. Drawing, graphic design, films, theater, photography, special effects for makeup and journalists all seem to have grabbed the attention of teenagers. It makes sense since a lot of the media show the glitz and glamour of these professions and the amazing products these careers create. Amazing movies, photos and stories have no doubt grabbed Generation Z’s attention. Education is also very publicized and stressed in this day and age; therefore many students plan to go to
college after high school. It’s good that our population sees the importance of an education because it will generate many high paying jobs, reliable workers, and increase productivity. With more and more people going to college we can almost guarantee a more stable and improving economy. With all these new professions, some could be worried that the old, but necessary, jobs have been forgotten. Although, teens still hold an interest in more classic jobs like criminal justice, business, police officer and librarians. Along with older professions, there are still those with more classic plans for life after high school. Many still prefer to go into the military after high school and return for college. Chasing the glorious military path may even help those who cannot afford college right away. Older influences like grandparents may have sparked this military approach with tales of justice and pride during the Vietnam War. While millennials get a lot of heat and are regarded as largely more irresponsible than other generations, Generation Z may be more reliable and workaholics like their grandparents. Some say the younger siblings observations of their older siblings and their struggles influence us to strive for success and stability. Like many others before, features of the past generation and their roles as parents and guides characterize generations. So with careful analysis of today’s wants, goals, aspirations and upbringing we can see just who we might be in the future.

Make America deteriorate By: Jessica Ross A woman who forgot to pay her brain bill, a known racist and a man who believes climate change is a hoax. Nothing could possibly go wrong when these people help run a country with more than 326 million people. Betsy DeVos is Donald Trump’s pick for the secretary of education, but does she have some ‘great’ plans? She was the most controversial pick, because of how she was voted in. DeVos won 50 to 51. Mike Pence is the first vice president to break a tie over a cabinet member. The Republican Party is currently the majority party, controlling the white house and senate. The odd thing about how she was voted in was that two republican senators, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine, voted against Betsy DeVos, as well as the entire Democratic Party. This should really say something about the candidate something like, ‘Hey! This is a terrible, horrid, insane person to pick to run education!’ Devos’ educational history is a wonderful sight as well. She has only attended Christian, private schools. Never a day in her life attended public schooling, the schooling most of the nation’s children attend. Her only college degree is a bachelor of arts in business economics. No degree in political science, no teaching license, never worked in any kind of educational facility. She has

never a day in her life, worked in an educational environment. It is astonishing how she has become the secretary of education. One of her plans for education, is to cut free and reduced meals. For many, many children, the only meals they get are during school. Some people’s opinion is, two or three dollars isn’t very much. It really is. The average U.S. family has two or three children. Six or nine dollars each day for only lunch meals is ridiculous. At the end of a 30-day month, it would add up to 60 to 270 dollars. A nine-month school year, it could cost 540 to 2,430 dollars. Keep in mind; this is only for lunch meals. There are also scientific studies that show students learn better when fed breakfast and lunch. So yes, cut the meals, because Betsy DeVos just wants what is best for the children. Pathetic. Moving onto Scott Pruitt, this man has been chosen to run EPA, the environmental protection agency. Obviously the EPA is trying to clean the oceans of plastics and garbage, preserve national parks,

prevent wildfires, and lastly, believes climate change is real. Scott Pruitt though, does not believe climate change is not real. He believes it is some kind of hoax. This man also works closely with fossil fuel companies. Doesn’t that just sound fantastic? Climate change has been scientifically proven by thousands of scientists across the globe. It is seen in every continent, every country. There is no logical way to deny it isn’t real. But then again, DeVos is running education, it only seems fitting. Scientists have proven global warming is a real thing again and again, but still many do not believe due to religious beliefs, never seeing the actual evidence, simple denial and so on. Global warming is a natural event, just like global cooling is during the ice age. The fact that humans are speeding up the warmth is the bad thing that many scientists are worried about. Animals must evolve to survive the change, which can take millions of years. Humans are speeding up global warming ahead, decades ahead of what it is supposed to be. Human are destroying Earth and the U.S. Government doesn’t seem to care. Tragic. Jeff Sessions is now the Attorney General. He served in army from 1973 to 1977. Later he studied law and became an attorney in Alabama. Sessions is also a known racist. In 1981, the killing of Michael Donald occurred. This was the last recorded
lynching in the U.S. Only 36 years ago. A hate crime, the murders were a part of the Ku Klux Klan. Sessions was an attorney at the time; his office filed civil rights charges, but never actually prosecuted the case. The murderers were later found in 1983, arrested, and sentenced to death. Later on in 1985, Sessions prosecuted three black community organizers, accusing them of voter fraud. Supposedly, they tampered with 14 absentee ballots. One of the organizer’s was Martin Luther King Jr’s aide, Albert Turner. All were later acquitted of the charges, three hours after deliberation. Sessions still believes he did the right thing, but failed to make a case. In his earlier past, he was also denied the job of federal judge, the judiciary committee deeming him too racist for the job. He has also said the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and American Civil Liberties Union un-American with communist inspiration. He has also said the only thing bad about the Ku Klux Klan is the marijuana smoking members. This man essentially controls law throughout the U.S. This should cause concern for everyone in the U.S. These three members should cause concern for every single person in the U.S. Each will cause more harm than good to the U.S. We all just have to wait for that day it all comes crashing and burning.

By: Fatima Gutierrez The sneezing and wheezing season is happening. Allergy season begins in spring and can carry throughout summer and fall. In some it can start as early as February, and bring horrible allergies to everyone. During the spring, pollen mainly comes from the trees, in summer it’s the grass; and during the fall pollen is most likely to come from. Tree, grass and ragweed pollens thrive during cool nights and warm days, which make the springtime perfect. Mold grows quickly in heat and high humidity, so for those with mold allergies summer is full of sickness.
Triggers of seasonal allergies include grass, pollen and mold. A person can experience symptoms like sneezing, coughing, itchy and runny nose or eyes. Sometimes they can be so severe that the best option is to go to the hospital and receive shots or prescribed medicine. Eye drops and nasal sprays work efficiently and should be used when people are undergoing a runny nose or itchy eyes. In order to reduce the possibility of having allergies always keep windows and doors shut at home and in your car during allergy season. Also make sure to stay indoors if pollen counts are
high. To check if the pollen number is high in the community people should check their weather channels or online websites. If an individual is concerned or just wants to find out what they are allergic to, they can book an appointment with their doctors to take various blood tests. Allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis (hay fever), food allergy and atopic dermatitis (eczema) are common for all age groups in the United States. Teenagers and children are affected more because of how much time they spend playing with friends and different sports. Children are
more likely to miss school during the spring because of intense allergy symptoms and they are more vulnerable to miss out on important information provided by their teachers. Adults can be affected as well during working hours and can be expected to fall behind in their necessities and errands causing them stress and irritability to their surroundings. Allergy season is one of the most dreadful times of the year for many people. To reduce the amount of exposure they receive it is important for them to try medicine, nasal sprays and allergy shots to lessen the effects.

Although war with Mexico may not happen, the states we are not allowing to immigrate (such as Egypt) are going to cause more flames in the middle east. In combination with current events, the past 15 years in Iraq and Afghanistan and the ban on travel being mixed in with this might be the last straw before global conflict begins, and maybe even world war 3. Another issue that arises is the image we project to the world. With this laws, we have compounded the image that we do not accept outsiders, which is not a great spin on “Land of the free, home of the brave.” We currently look more like a fascist government than a democracy. It also does not support the 13 amendment, and instead punishes you for who you are, what nationality you are, and where you are born. The law also shows that the United states is incompetent, as it has to step back and be racist to create false security within it’s borders. These laws are extremely racially bias. Despite what

The laws promote the stereotype that all muslims are terrorists. It discriminates the Latino and Hispanic cultures, and creates segregation of people based on where they are from. It is the Jim Crow Laws all over again, except it is separating a different set of peoples based on their ethnicity. These laws don’t actually help anyone, and besides, with the cheap labor gone, and only the most expensive labor available, the stop of immigrants and deportation could cause the economy to crash. It would mean what is left of the lower and middle classes money would go up to the upper class due to the hold they would have on the labor in the United States. If the economy doesn’t crash, and corruption doesn’t take hold of everything, civil unrest would end the government. Not to mention it just makes us a bigger target to war, as many countries outside of ours sees us as racist and our leaders obnoxious. With tension this high already, this could be a spark that causes the world to go up in flames. Politics surrounding this idea could be more bad than good. The $100,000 Cheeto: Is it really worth the price paid? Recently a person bought the 100000- dollar Cheeto that looks like the recently deceased Cincinnati zoo gorilla, Harambe. The question is though, is it worth the vast amount of money paid for something worth less than a few cents in reality? According to value, no the Cheeto is not worth more than a few cents. Why though? Well, look at the time the Cheeto was made in. The gorilla, Harambe recently died and has since then became a popular Internet joke. One conclusion can be made about the reasoning behind the purchase of such an expensive consumable item. The most likely candidate would be a joke. Harambe a joke and therefore being the main reason someone would use a vast sum of currency to purchase the item. Personally, the Cheeto isn’t worth all the money used

to purchase it. Jokes in their spontaneous and fireworkish nature do not last very long and the humor of the purchase will dissipate in a mere day or so. Think about it, does anyone remember a joke told a year ago? Obviously not. Another theory is that the company that owns the Cheetos brand, PepsiCo, bought the Cheeto while remaining anonymous to draw attention to their company and potentially gain revenue from the increased attention. The buyer as of right now is anonymous and PepsiCo is gaining a lot of attention from this unique Cheeto gaining them increased revenue. It’s completely logical because, why would anyone buy a Cheeto worth that much for a tiny moment of fame or infamy. The amount of money is the main point of focus, with good reason also. 99000 dollars, everyday people just do not have that amount of money and even
if they did, the amount isn’t something people just throw away on something only temporary. This event is a lesson people nowadays can learn about spending money wisely and the worth of items. Is it truly worth it to gain a few moments of infamy or fame? No. With something so tiny and easily made it’s quite questionable how people use their hard earned money. The things that can follow up if everyone wastes their money are nearly uncountable. Needing money when an emergency comes up is one of them. If people spent money on expensive and near worthless things what will happen when that money is required in a desperate time of need?What could be the use of a Cheeto worth less than a dollar in terms of value when one can purchase a load of Cheetos from the exact same price? What can anyone do with things like these at the end of the day? It is unwise to consume it.
For humors sake the purchase is actually pretty hilarious in my honest opinion. Buying the worlds most expensive Cheetos has its benefits. One, you can get temporary Internet and worldwide fame, which is more than most people and say. Two, the titles one can get for doing something so obviously nonsensical are quite humorous and are the thing people will remember about oneself. The world’s most expensive Cheeto buyer is quite hilarious. If one is humorous enough to eat the Cheeto, one will be known as the “person who ate one hundred thousand dollars.” Quite the title if you ask me. In the end buying things is ultimately, the person’s choice. No one can tell anyone what to do, nor should they. If someone wishes to buy something, so be it. A word of warning though, be very careful on what money is spent on, because rainy days come without warning.

Optimism vs pessimism By: Kiana Silva-Hall Positivity.Over.Everything. Everybody has optimism (positivity) and pessimism (negativity) in their life. Some are more pessimistic than they’d like to be but still fight it. Having negative people is never good and is a big problem, but there are a few ways to get rid of all the negativity. Relief comes when getting rid of that person; however it’s not as easy as it seems. If you know the person for a very long time it is hard, but a solution can be talking to them face to face. Being honest will help resolve the situation. When the other person is telling their opinion don’t be quick to point a finger. Listen to them instead of criticizing. If criticizing happens it’ll leave a person feeling like everything is their fault and cause them to feel bad. Getting rid of the negative physical things are much simpler than the mental things. Overthinking is the number one thing that leads to stress. It usually starts when someone thinks of all the things they have to do the following day. Then, they start complaining to themselves instead of realizing that they’re capable of doing it. Instead they should set their mind to thinking, “I can do this” or “I’m ready for this challenge.” Someone saying these positive things to themself will lower stress levels. Having someone to count on and look to can be a very helpful factor. It’s hard to think of someone to thank or

Make sure to not sweat the little things love because the thought of when they didn’t do something nice tends to pop up. Thinking of all the bad things really ruins the point of view of that person. To fight that, think of the love that can be given to them, think of the feeling that was received when they did you wrong and imagine the other person feeling that. No one would want their loved one to feel sad or broken, so do something that won’t make them feel like that. Having peace can make everything so much easier. If someone starts loving him or her then they want to be able to give to others and their whole day can be peaceful.

Spreading love to others can make anyone’s day. The possibility of someone having a good day can all happen with someone giving them a smile. Something so simple can do amazing things. To steer away the negative thoughts try to ignore them. Though that’s not something that is always easy it is possible. Try not to take them so seriously, and don’t let them take control, they’re just thoughts. Dismiss the thought so it wouldn’t affect and leave it behind. Resist the urge to judge or pile things up because it’s going to all grow and clutter your mind up not allowing anything good to come.

What sets people off most of the time are the little things. Having a ton of tasks to do the next day or getting cut off while driving is nothing life changing. People think that they have to get stressed whenever they have a bunch of work piled on or they think that they have to get angry with the person that cut them off. Just breath and relax these are nothing life changing, so reacting in a negative way is just a waste of your energy and causes someone to start focusing on all the bad things in the world instead of good. It’s okay to postpone some of the not very important things to a few hours later; a person can only do so much. Being more of a kind person all starts with a thought and once someone gets the hang of it they will have way more energy.

So many changes happen when you start growing up; responsibilities starts to rise and even though all a kid wants to do is party and have freedom. Its just time to grow up. The feeling of asking your parents for money all the time is one of the worst. They have given you everything you would need in life, but they can’t get you everything you want. There is a time in your teenage life where you just get frustrated with everything and sometimes they make a decision to become responsible at a young age, even if you don’t have to. You don’t get anything for free in this world. As much as you’d want to. Having to look for a job just to start buying your own things can be hard, but you can’t depend on your parents forever as much as you want to. You just have to grow up at sometime. Balancing school, work and outside activities will be hard and you have to find a
way to manage everything in your life. It is possible but really hard to figure it out, especially at a young age. It will be stressful and it can be a struggle at times, but you have to have the mentality that everything will be worth it at the end. The stress will be manageable and with the support of your family, and that can help you a lot. It’s a blessing to have a family that will help if anything ever goes wrong. Growing up doesn’t mean your life is over, it simply means you just have to become stronger than ever. You will go through so much in your life and this is just the start. Everyone can handle it if you just put your mind where your goal is. You’re on you own when

There is always a good in a bad situation, and that is something you will simply just grow up with. You will understand life so much more and realize that this is the life we will have to live in. We will also learn how to understand consequences and it will help us for the future if anything bad were to happen. This makes a teenager so much more mature and responsible. I will always believe that you have to work hard for what you want and balancing all the things that are happening in your life at a young age will help you. Even after a person goes through a lot of things in life, there is always a positive outcome in the end.

Kong. Is it worth the money? By: Benjamin Martinez
Saving money is an important financial strategy and maybe the best way to start is by not spending money on Kong Skull Island. Not only did Kong Skull Island appear to be a waste of money, it also seemed to be an irresponsible use of time (Two hours of time). Kong Skull Island was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, he’s known for directing The Kings of Summer, Single Dads, and a few other projects. Kong Skull Island is under the genre of Action/ Adventure. Typically action/ adventure movies that are about a possible threat to humanity involve tones of concern, hope, and excitement. Kong tried to go along with a comedic route and this may have been one of the biggest reasons as to why it failed. Not to say that all movies with this concept fail once they add comedy, because some movies have done well with added comedy. The fault with Kong was that it tried many different things (such as comedy) and did each with only C- quality. The movie seemed to have an identity crisis. As a consumer it’s hard to identify who truly takes the fault. Is it the director?
Was it the writers’ fault? Or was the failure a behalf of the sub-par actors? Possibly. The movie could have been better if the casting of the actors didn’t seem like just a game of spin the wheel. There was no passion shown from any of the actors nor did one get a sense of becoming lost within the film. There was also very little character progression. On a higher note, something that Kong did very
well was their use of visual effects. Throughout the film, the viewer is reminded where most of the 185 million dollar budget went towards (it definitely didn’t go into story or actors). As for the soundtrack of this movie, there was nothing special about it. The soundtrack served its purpose by supporting the semi comedic and adventurous tones. Now, if a Kong fan were to watch this movie they’ll
probably appreciate how they display Kong with his destruction. One of their higher points would be how their creatures turned out in the movie and the amount of havoc they can cause. Overall, this movie is truly made for the fans that want to see Kong for his destruction. This movie isn’t targeted for fans of character progression or overall story. Rating: 2.75/5

The Shins make a comeback
By: Kady Mckenzie The Shins, who formed in New Mexico, in 1996, are an indie-rock band consisting of the members James Mercer (vocals, songwriter), Jon Sortland (drums), Mark Watrous (guitar), Yuuki Matthews (bass) and Patti King (keyboards). The Shins was formed by Mercer who was at the time in another band called Flake music, but he wanted a change of pace and style, resulting in The Shins. The band has a typical indie rock sound but what makes them unique is the interesting lyrics and vocals,

comined with upbeat music. They have released multiple albums and EPs, including Nature Bears a Vacuum, Chutes Too Narrow, Oh, Inverted World, Wincing the Night Away, Port of Morrow and their latest album Heartworms. Heartworms is the first album they have released since 2012, nearly five years ago and many fans were worried that they had lost their original, unique style of indie rock. However, they are still just as good and interesting as they were before. Their style is still indie sounding and they stuck to their roots.

With the opening song “Name For You”, it starts out quite upbeat and creates a good start for the album. It’s interesting lyrics coupled with the music makes it a good tune to listen to. Another good song is “Fantasy Island”. It has a very old vibe with very unique music. The lyrics and Mercer’s voice compliment the song nicely. The closing song, “The Fear” is one of the best, having an upbeat vibe while simultaneously being very soft. Mercer’s voice is also really nice and the lyrics are meaningful as well.
When it comes to bad songs, the only really song that isn’t the best would be “Painting a Whole” as it gets repetitive and honestly annoying. The music goes all over the place during this track. Besides that one song, the rest of the album doesn’t have any other songs that aren’t so desirable. Overall, this album was done really well. Most of the songs are catchy and have a very old feeling vibe which can be a nice change of pace from other popular artists. Rating: 4/5

Its location is Downtown Summerlin, a great spot for those shopping and wanting to grab a quick slice and other great options. Bonanno’s is open every day from 11a.m. to 10 p.m. They are best known for the stromboli and garlic knots severed with marinara sauce, warm, tasty and delicious. They definitely had fast service going with the New York style. The only complaint would be that they don’t

There’s nothing better than a fresh hot pizza. have that much space in order for people to actually sit and order in other words it’s a very tight space. They order the pizza they want and any other add on’s which can be a Caesars salad, garlic knots, and lasagna. We
ordered a full supreme pizza with Caesars salads with also a cheese pizza. Both came right out of the oven compared to other pizza and pizzerias they were the best. Also you can have a choice to order your own mini pizza. Which would also fill them up quick because not everyone needs a full pizza. The slices are so huge when you order one slice. The prices came out to be 25.98 dollars with drinks included. The restaurant was over all very clean and kept up with. Sanitation is key especially for a restaurant or fast food place. Bonanno’s was rated a 4.3 overall for cleanliness. Although the pizza was good
the bad things about it would have to be that it was really greasy to the point it would drip off the pizza. It had to soaked it up with a napkin. Pizza isn’t really a healthy choice anyway, so if they want the grease that’s what you’re going to get. Thankfully you have other healthy options such as the side salad. Overall, Bonanno’s is a very good pizza and great recommendation it to anyone. The people were so nice and the service got you in and out quick to the next customer and enjoy your meal. Nobody should ever eat pizza anywhere else. Best prices, and best food. Rating: 5/5

By: Jayla Griffith Bonanza’s cheerleading competition team made it to nationals after a long journey qualifying from regionals. This competition will take place in Anaheim, California, from March 23 through March 26. With all of the hard work and dedication, they are hoping to make it to finals. Jaquelin Garcia is a base on the varsity team, cheering for four years now. Working about ten hours a week, and three hours a day, they believe that they have improved a ton. “We all progressed individually, we came together to work hard and try to accomplish our goal of making final day at nationals,” Garcia said. She believes the best strategy to prepare is to come into practice motivated and by putting 100% effort into everything. Garcia believes that there is definitely a lot of pressure. On a scale from one to ten, Garcia’s confidence is at an eight. She always knows there is a chance that a stunt may fall, or something will go wrong. Garcia says that there has been a ton of improvements since regionals, and that even though Coach Monah has increased the

difficulty, they still feel good with it. She is mostly looking forward to spending time with her team. This is Garcia’s first time competing at nationals, so she’s very excited for that experience. “It’s nice to be able to motivate everyone at games and show school spirit and pride,” Garcia said. Garcia believes that the team is very dedicated, even though there are times they get distracted, they tend to find a way to get back on task. In stressful situations, Garcia believes they’re always hopeful and no matter what’s going on, they know everything will work out. “I see how far we’ve come since our first practice and it honestly motivates me to keep working harder,” Garcia said. Pattiya Nelson is a flyer and captain on the varsity team; she’s been cheering for seven years now, and this is her last high school year. Nelson says that this year’s team has accomplished new levels of stunting they’ve never had before. According to Nelson, the best way to prepare is by stretching and practicing before the actual performance. Nelson feels a lot of pressure,

because there are hundreds of people watching including family that you want to make proud. On a scale from one to ten, Nelson says a seven is where she would place the team. She says that they’ve improved so much since last year’s team, doing stunts they were afraid of and pushing more and harder than ever. Nelson is mostly looking forward to making final day and also a fun day at Disneyland. “Being captain changes your point of view, because you’re looking after everyone and everything 24/7,” Nelson said. Nelson feels she is 100% dedicated. Nelson feels winning is what motivates the boys and girls. “Communication helps lift the team in tough and stressful situations,” Nelson said. This is a very great strategy to figure out what’s missing and what needs improvement. Monah Doyle is the coach for Bonanza’s cheer team and has been cheering (as a flyer) and coaching for nearly 20 years now. She believes the team has progressed in several ways from stunting and being a very cohesive team.
Coach Monah’s best strategy to prepare is by analyzing everyone’s level of talent and placing them in their proper part to create a phenomenal routine. She has a lot of pressure, with some confidence. “Right now, my confidence is halfway. There are a lot of other teams that are very strong, and if our team believes that they can be successful, then they will be,” Coach Monah said. Coach Monah sees a lot of improvement, and how they’ve accomplished a lot with stunting and working hard by pushing themselves. Coach Monah is looking forward to hopefully making final day, which no past Bonanza team has done. Coach Monah’s point of view of the team is that they’re amazing and have a lot of talent. “What helps lift up the team and motivate them is by bribing them with food,” Coach Monah said. If this team believes that they can push themselves and do better, and tell each other that they can do it, then they will. Garcia, Nelson and Coach Monah all had good feedback and hopefully this all goes in the teams favor.
How to overcome laziness By: Alondrah S. Ramirez
Laziness. Lying down. Resting your eyes. Relaxing, ignoring your daily stresses to do nothing. But has it been taken to far? The thought of being lazy has been taken advantage of and have been used as an excuse to not put in effort into daily life situations. People who feel lazy are often trapped in their own illusion created by themselves for many reasons. Today, many who consider themselves lazy have a lack of motivation and may fear success or failure. By failing, they fear that if they don’t succeed, they’ll give themselves and or others around them disappointment. In order to prevent such distress and anxiety, the easiest way is just setting low expectations then there’s no way to fail. Some fearing success or being better then others, because they think they would be treated differently for being successful. For example, in school one could be scared of being bullied for being smarter than others in their class, so
they lack their effort to prove otherwise. Depression is a big cause of laziness, feeling there is no need to do anything. Life and people are worthless and there’s no point in trying anymore. Everyone gets that feeling of just sitting down and doing nothing, but people shouldn’t let that take over and control their life. The few steps to overcome this deception are very simple but not easy. It starts off with baby steps. It’s not something that can change in a day after having a routine. Have a motivation, a reason to work hard. A reason to deserve be happy. Know that people deserve to be successful and proud. In other words have a goal. Everyone deserves to be happy no matter how many times you’ve been told or told otherwise. Believe in yourself. Know that getting off your butt will give a real paradise. There’s only so much time in a day, and time doesn’t wait for anyone. So put all that time in
what makes gives happiness, or something that will eventually do so. Break your tasks into pieces. Doing one thing at a time will give less things to stress about, so do everything one step at a time. Multitasking can rush you and want to get everything done at once. Causing less attention on each topic and just skimming through it instead of doing everything carefully. Don’t rush. Give time on each task. Rushing will only cause you to lack in the effort put into it and won’t prove what can be accomplished. Take small breaks. A break once in a while won’t hurt. Nor is it being lazy, everyone needs a break, but its not something that should consume your whole day. Feeling as if one’s lazy, don’t let that consume the work ethic or day because that time can’t be taken back. Work hard on anything and everything and it will be repaid. photo by Manon Ladeyn, EOTT

Baseball, a sport of stress and reward. Baseball is a game centered around the four bases and the ball. The batter, the most important person on the field, is out at home plate, always hoping to hit the ball and get on plate. The players on the field will be ready to stop him though. Bonanza aseball is looking great this year!

Go Bengals Bonanza’s golf team in action By: Melissa Diaz and Presley Cole Bonanza’s Golf team at the southwest division competing as a team. Coach Cheryl Speer loves to coach the boys and she has been coaching for 25 years. “Its easier to coach one-on-one,” Speer said. Everyone on the golf team is really active and willing to play. The team does a great job and they work together to get a win except some are better than others. “Bailey is the best golfer,” Speer said. She also said that Bailey could make a career out of golf. Freshman Bailey Osbourne has been playing Golf for five years now. “My grandfather play’s golf and so I got into the sport myself,” Osbourne said. Osbourne even mentions a school. “If I don’t get a scholarship for golf then I could get one for basketball,” Osbourne said. Osbourne is the youngest one on the team and he is the best player. Bonanza’s golf team competes against Gorman, Durango, Desert Oasis, Clark, and Spring Valley. Our golf team plays at Bears Best, Canyon Gate, Spanish Trails, Rhodes Ranch, Angel Park and Siena GC. Come and support the golf team at their games. “Have fun and compete,” senior Levi Klump said. Klump mentions that he will continue playing for his

leisure time. He really enjoys playing golf and it gives him something to do after school or for his free time. After high school, he wants to go to school for casino industry.” I like to compete,” Klump said about golf. Klump enjoys competing in golf especially against other schools because some schools are a challenge and its fun to just really make the most out of one game and focus on your errors and so that the next game you’ll correct it. Klump’s motivation is to be a good sport in golf. Klump is one of the seniors that are in the team. The boys mention that coach Speer is a great coach and she really motivates the athletes to compete and keep their head in the game. “Coach Speer wants for us to get the best score but also have fun,” Osbourne said. Coach Speer’s purpose for the team is to have fun winning. She wants the best for these boys. “ She is a great coach and she really is inspirational,” Osbourne said. Coach Speer is a great example towards the athlete’s showing them to compete but also enjoy the sport and why they come everyday to practice. With only six players, this team is strong enough to play together and compete against other schools and make the best of it.
