Biden’s win could change U.S.
President-elect’s platform promises to restore America By: Alma Sierra Lozano This year has brought many surprises to the world. First, the nation was brought to a quarantine that lasted for three months because of the Coronavirus pandemic. Then the country was faced with a huge amount of police brutality that caused the Black Lives Matter movement. Now, the nation is at the point of the year where the next president has been elected. Joe Biden and Donald Trump were stepping on each other’s toes throughout the whole election. As soon as the votes were counted, Biden had defeated Trump in winning the presidency. “Waiting for the results of the election felt like forever,” senior Daniela Ubaldo said. “I voted for Biden, but I still had doubts that he could have won because Trump was ahead for a good second.” Biden has proven to be voted for by many latinos based on them not wanting Trump to be president again. more than 70 million votes, “the second highest total in American history” according to BBC News, he was not able to beat Biden even if he was stepping on his heels. It shows that the loss of his victory was not about his campaign, but about him. “I think if he wouldn’t have been racist and against gay rights for three years he could have won,” senior Johny Canela said. Biden has proven to many to be suited for president. He has promised to tackle the pandemic face on, raise minimum wage, restore America’s reputation and rejoin the global climate accord. Although he will not be officially in office until Jan. 20, everyone is waiting to see how these next four years are going to go. Up until then, the only thing everyone can do at the moment is anticipate with a good and positive attitude for what awaits the world.

Astrology can determine your compatibility with your partner By: Brooklyn Arthur Have you ever questioned your compatibility with another? Your zodiac sign may have the answer. Someone’s zodiac sign has been shown to bring out certain characteristics in a person, both good and bad. Knowing someone’s zodiac sign can tell you a lot about them. Like if someone is aggressive or calm, or even introverted or extroverted. If one were to like someone who is more confident in themselves, then they would be best suited for a Leo. Leos are confident but can be humble about it. Leos also have a sweet sense of humor and can be sensitive. However, if you’re a Sagittarius, Leos may not be the best option for you. Sagittarius have a darker sense of humor and can come off as very bold. Sometimes with the match of dark humor and a bold personality they can come as mean or harmful. When actually the more get to know a Sagittarius the sweeter they get. Sagittarius
may be best with another Sagittarius. The personality of a Sagittarius can only be truly understood by another Sagittarius. Perhaps a better choice for a Leo would be a Cancer. Cancers are also a bit sensitive but they can handle other emotional people. Cancers are super affectionate and love attention. Some people do feel that Cancers can look way into things. “Cancers know how to play the victim and can turn a joke into a really bad argument.” freshman Nohemy Rodriguez stated. Rodriguez is a Libra. Libra’s are known for their enchanting personalities and amazing confidence. On the downside, some would say that a Libras personality can seem to be a little manipulative. An Aquarius might be the perfect sign for a Libra. Both of these signs are bound to have a high mental connection when their interests are in sync so is their love for each other. Another great match would be Gemini and Aries. A Gemini and Aries can be very
passionate people together. They have a similar way of doing things, but an Aries may get tired of a Geminis love to go into extreme detail. An Aries attention span isn’t very long. An Aries may also be a great pair with a Taurus. An Aries can bring out more personality and activeness of a Taurus. Aries love the calmness of a Taurus and Taurus’s love the adventure of an Aries. Much like an Aries, a Virgo can bring out the high-strung personality of a Taurus and can even be their comfort. “Virgos have always been my closest friends and the people I tell everything to. They’re my safe place in a way.” Elizabeth Mares, another freshman states. Mares is also a Taurus. A Taurus and Virgo can be an amazing match. The last match is a Capricorn and Pisces, these two have a very similar personality and very little differences. They can be each other’s comfort and help each other reach their goals.

Zodiac signs are rooted in a belief system stemming back centuries By: Isabel Murillo Do you appreciate it when people respect your personal beliefs? Do you find peace of mind within your faiths? For many people, zodiac signs and astrology are a safe place. It is a belief that is very much real and based around the placements of constellations, planets, and the sun. Zodiac signs are a gift passed down from ancient civilizations that deserve to be appreciated. Zodiac signs originate from astrology, specifically Babylonian astrology, which was inspired by ancient Egypt. Babylonian astrology was introduced to the Greeks in the early 4th century B.C. Through the studies of famous astrologers such as Plato and Aristotle. Astrology was classified as science, Romans and Arabs embraced the new science. The belief soon spread throughout the world. It was used to predict weather conditions and consult kings and emperors. Today, astrology is not regarded as real science, but a pseudoscience. Not real science. So why are zodiac signs real
if they aren’t backed by science? Zodiac signs and astrology are a belief. Astrology and Zodiac signs are personal and are dependent on placements of the sun and planets. They use birthdays and birth times to predict personal traits, areas of life, and personal circumstances. Zodiac signs and astrology have given many people something to believe in. It has given many a sense of preparation for events and intimate traits. Despite being classified as a pseudoscience, there is no real evidence backing up the claim that astrology or zodiac signs aren’t real. Information is brushed aside or very vague. A common argument being that someone who knows a great deal of astrology might not guess your zodiac sign correctly, it’s not because they are a fraud. Every birth chart is personal. You are not just one zodiac sign, planets and other signs represent you. Another misconception regarding zodiac signs are horoscopes. Horoscopes mostly found on social media, news articles and magazines are not in any way
accurate. Social media memes regarding zodiac signs are to be taken lightly and to have fun with. Zodiac signs in any form are a representation of creativity and personality. For an accurate horoscope, it must have your birth date and birth time. Another ridiculous argument is the similarities of bias and astrology regarding zodiac signs. The argument being, they both operate on the principle that a person’s behavior is based on how they were born, instead of who they are. Zodiac signs are all about who you are as a person, not how, and are in no way demeaning to anyone. Zodiac signs are a belief that harms no one and only promotes positivity and self-representation. Although some aspects may hurt to hear, real astrology regarding zodiac signs shows the good and bad aspects of your personality. Zodiac signs are a gift of belief passed down by ancient civilizations. Why should society lose a chance to enjoy a gift that could have been lost and forgotten? Zodiac signs are real and deserve to be respected.
Jack is the pumpkin, zodiac king
By: Harmony M. Hamilton The Nightmare Before Christmas, A 1993 stop motion cinematic masterpiece by Henry Selleck and Tim Burton. The story of the main charcter Jack the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town who has the idea giving up his own holiday Halloween and stealing another one he and making It his own. Christmas and even kidnaps Santa Claus to do so, As I watched the movie again this weekend on I began to think of Zodiac Traits that fit some of the main characters and why I strongly see them. It’s very obvious that Jack Skellington is a Leo. Leos are warm and cheerful people. They can be counted on to bring sunshine into other people’s lives. Hense why Jack made everyone happy all the time and people depend on him. But It’s not just his positive traits that match his negative traits match as well, they can be quite egotistical, demanding, and stubborn. Jack became very selfish when wanting to take Christmas and very stubborn when Sally tried to warn him of
the horrible outcome. Speaking of Sally, it’s very clear that shes a Saggitarus. Sagittarius sometimes have a hard time saying what they are actually feeling, which Sally can relate to as It takes her the majority of the movie to reveal her love to Jack outright. Her negative traits fit jus as well as Jack’s, Saggitarians are known to get bored easily and therefore are a little inconsistent. Which explains she always ran away from the doctor out of boredom. Sags are a bit reckless when It comes to dealing with certain things. Like when she tried to save Santa and got captured. Lock Shock and Barrel, Oggie Boogies evil henchmen are Virgos. Although they are only children Virgos Attentive to Detail, Responsible, Hardworking. They may have missed the Christmas door the First time, but payed attention to details and worked hard to kidnap Santa along with responsibly not killing or hurting him like Jack said. They can be bossy and also stubborn about how to perform certain tasks, which is shown when they are all telling each other what to do and not listening to each
others ideas. His henchmen may be Virgos but he is far from it Oggie Boogie is a straight Scorpio. Scorpios are one of the most jealous and possessive zodiac signs out there. He was jealous of Jack and his power In Halloween Town which he wanted to take over. They are also masterminds behind every mischief. Which is why his henchman told him of the plan all along. Scorpions have the gift of manipulation. He constantly manipulated the kids to work for him and think hes the coolest one around and do his dirty work. There are so many more signs and characters but it would be hard to find reasonings due to the fact that I only chose characters with the most screen time and personality in the movie. Now I do not own The Nightmare Before Christmas or any of It’s characters. These traits were created using the personalities of the characters and not their dates of birth. I strongly agree with the signs I chose for these characters and the reasonings behind them without using their birthdays as a chart to go off of.
Staying safe with COVID numbers still rising Vaccine rollout is moving slower than expected By: Aryan Passey When you’re staying safe with covid you probably don’t want to go out that much and we believe that these are the most efficient ways to stay safe during this time. The number one thing that everyone should do is wash your hands. If it is available “wash your hands with soap and water for at least twenty seconds,” especially after you’ve been out to public places or after coughing, sneezing or after blowing your nose. It’s also very important to wash your hands before eating or preparing food, before touching your face, after using restroom, after leaving a public place, after blowing your nose/sneezing or coughing, after handling your mask, after changing a diaper, after caring for someone sick and after touching animals or pets. If soap and water is not available, use hand sanitizer that at least contains 60 percent alcohol. Cover and rub all surfaces of your hands together until they feel dry.
It is best to also avoid touching others and your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Second, the thing to be doing is avoiding close contact or in other words do social distancing. Inside your home is where you should be in most of your social distancing, but if there are people in your home that are sick, avoid close contact or maintain 6 feet from them. Outside of your home, still remain 6 feet between people and yourself. But remember that some people without the symptoms still can spread the virus. Also keep distance from those who are more likely to get sick. A mask needs to be on your face and over your nose and mouth. You still could spread COVID-19 to other people even if you don’t feel sick at all, but if you’re wearing a mask, then the chances of spreading the virus is 75% less than having no mask. Everyone in public settings should be wearing a mask at all times when around people you don’t live with or in your household, especially when others as social distancing is difficult to maintain.
If you have children or are a guardian of children ,masks should not be placed on the younger of two years old or anyone who has trouble breathing, is unconscious or is incapable of removing or putting on a mask without assistance. Surgical masks and n95 respirators are critical supplies for healthcare workers and First Responders do not wear these masks unless you already have them. Instead wear a mask that has a filter or is at least layered. Keep social distancing even if you have a mask it’s not an excuse. Just as you would in a normal day of life cover your cough and sneezes, so germs or viruses aren’t spread. With tissue always cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow and do not spit. Used tissues have to be thrown away in the trash. Do not leave them around. If we did leave them around, it could infect animals and spread the virus. Wash your hands right after with soap and water for at least 20 seconds if not, hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
Are you a (zodiac) killer?
By: Cassandra McCoy OK, so skip to the part in the movie where the killer is chasing you and you make a run for it up the stairs. Yes, everyone judged you and yes, what were you thinking? But, that’s besides the point. The real question is, when you were running for your life, did it ever pass your mind what zodiac the killer was? Most people know what astrology signs are. Based on the date, time and place of your birth, you have a specific zodiac sign. There are certain believed characteristics, actions, feelings and attitudes that are matched with certain zodiacs, so it is thought that whatever behavior you have is dependent on your sign. Coming back to that horror movie, where does your zodiac sign stand? Looking at the nature and traits of all twelve zodiac signs, what role are you gonna play in a cliche horror movie? Let’s go in order, beginning with Aries. Aries are known to be fearless and natural born leaders, two very great qualities when in danger. Now, being fearless, they’d do whatever it takes to survive. Unfortunately, their unwavering loyalty comes into play and their fearlessness gets ahead of them as they sacrifice themselves to save a dear friend. Aries are spontaneous and unpredictable, so they might have a chance to make it out alive. Could they die from being too loyal or not fearful enough? Definitely. When it comes to Taurus, they’re probably one of the first to go. Being
extremely stubborn and practical, these gorgeous creatures will be singing in the shower way too loud as they excessively shampoo and will be the killers second target, after the Gemini, are very excitable and fun-loving, and they probably greeted them at the door and got slaughtered. Everyone knows that one friend that witnesses the death of their bestie and just screams as the killer approaches them but acts like they can’t get off the ground. That friend is most likely a Cancer. They’re just so emotional, and letting your emotions get to you is not the way to survive. Leos are the ultimate attention seekers. That one friend that always shows off something new or tells thrilling and extremely unbelievable stories? Yeah, that’s a Leo. Sorry, but your crazy story about last summer will not stop the killer from dicing you into little pieces. Virgos wouldn’t be in the horror movie in the first place. These special humans are very planned out and most likely took honors classes. Their obsession with true crime and/or criminal T.V. shows would save them in almost any horror situation. Libras are great listeners and very likeable. They’re definitely the friend that the Scorpio takes under their wing and rides together till the end. Now, Scorpios have hope for surviving. They’re known to be totally awesome and legendary at whatever they do, and they’re definitely the go to bug-killer amongst their friends. Likely found wearing a leather jacket, Scorpios will either kill the killer or let their fiery temper get
the best of them and make an irrational decision that gets them killed. A Saggitarious could either be there because the party actually sounded fun or they flaked because naturally they never make it to the plans. Either way, they’re most likely to die as they never let others influence them and they’ll try to just walk out the front door and get their head chopped off. Next up is Capricorn. These people don’t mess around. When it comes to being in danger, they are getting themselves out of there, even if it means throwing their friend in front of them so they escape the killer quicker. Could they be the killer? Most definitely. Just make sure you know the person you’re travelling with in a horror movie cause it could be a Capricorn and if it is, it was nice knowing ya’. The Aquarius is a prime example of a successful character in a horror movie. They’re known to be very independent and unique, two great characteristics as a successor in not getting killed. The Aquarius could most definitely get alone in the basement and remake a Home Alone scene to escape the killer. With a Pisces, their breakdown is significantly easy. They’re overly emotional, generous and empathetic and Ninety-five percent of the time they’re simping. They’re very creative creatures, yes, but they always tend to let their feels get in the way. So basically, they’re dead. Looking at this breakdown, would you survive in a horror movie? Also, don’t run up the stairs. It’s getting old, and yes, this goes to all you Leo’s.
Holidays look different in COVID era
By: Melissa Een Temperatures have dropped and nights are growing longer. There’s a chill in the air at night and all the leaves have fallen from trees. Winter has come to the desert, and along with it the winter holidays. In almost every culture, there is a celebration in the middle of this, the coldest season. Historically this was to keep morale up as men, women and children alike holed up in houses to shelter from the cold. Though we now have heating and no longer stay indoors all winter, the celebrations remain. Like the rest of America, a majority of us here in EOTT celebrate Christmas and have our favorite traditions as a part of that holiday. However, there are also some who don’t celebrate any specific holiday or celebrate other holidays. With the unique circumstances of this year, many families will be unable to celebrate the way they’re used to. Many of our favorite traditions like gathering for meals and baking together with relatives will have to be put on hold or downsized. This year we will not be sharing our baked goods with friends or each other.

Since jobs have been slow and hard to find, presents may not vary as much or may not even be a possibility. It isn’t just the economic crash that can keep people from Christmas shopping though. Unless you go early Christmas shopping, the chance of you crossing paths with someone who might have COVID is going to be very high. The last thing anyone wants is to get COVID and spread it to their at-risk
family members, so family gatherings are sure to look a lot different this year. There is a general consensus that any gathering with more than eight people should wear masks and wash hands regularly, but there are many steps that can be taken to ensure everyone’s safety. If families who quarantine separately are planning to get together, they should get tested and make sure they're negative before being in large groups. Traveling to visit family will also be a worrying thing. Some of us are traveling for the holidays, and it brings on anxiety about public transportation because a lot of the time bus drivers or other passengers carry certain illnesses and things like that which makes it dangerous. Even relatively small distances on trains, busses and planes have the possibility of exposing you to COVID. So if you are travelling please take as many precautions as you can. Masks, face shields, hand sanitizer or even gloves are vital safety measures when travelling publicly. However you are celebrating, whether it’s at home over video call or in person with family, all of us at EOTT wish you the best. Be smart, be safe and have a wonderful break.
Boy Pablo serves up chill vibes By: Sofia Gaitan
Boy and girl meet, boy and girl fall in love, girl and boy fall out of love, both go their separate ways, boy looks to the future optimistically. In Boy Pablo’s debut album, Wachito Rico, he encounters love for the first time and its struggles. After all, who ever said it was easy? The 21 year old Nicolas Muñoz, commonly known by the stage name Boy Pablo, is a Norwegian/Chilean indie pop singer, songwriter and producer. Recently released Wachito Rico on Oct. 25, 2020 just two years from his last EP Soy Pablo and three years from his first EP Roy Pablo. Wachito Rico is a Chilean slang term for pretty boy and is the name of the main character who the listener goes along with on his journey of teenage love. The album goes along with 5 music videos for the singles off the album. “Hey girl”, “Honey”, “Rest up”, “Leave me alone!”, and “Wachito Rico”. These videos are a visual story of Wachito falling for a girl called Sofia and their ultimate breakup. “Wachito Rico is just a normal boy that really wants to get this girl,” Muñoz said to NPR’s Weekend Edition. “It started out as a joke. Then I realized it sounded like a character and that’s exactly what I wanted for this album — to create a character that I write about and also that I act out in the music videos we’ve made.” The songs are written in a style that some can relate to at some point in someone’s life. Compared to his earlier works Muñoz has a more mature and grown sound but there is still a sound of his signature sound earlier in his career. The lyrics for this album are about love and to just move on with life because it’s not that serious because we fall and get up. Muñoz tends to write songs that are tended to be serious but at the same time to just have fun with it and dance along with he wants the listener to not think about the meaning and just enjoy the mu-
sic because music isn’t always serious. As in Wachito Rico, the lyrics are romantic but open ended as the listener can interpret as any way they want. He has a habit of doing this. For example, his song “Sick Feeling”. The listener can interpret it as missing a significant other after letting them go, while Muñoz wrote the song about feeling left behind by his friends because he didn’t have as much time to play video games with them. Some song highlights are: “i <3 u” It gives the album an optimistic ending and a calming vibe; it’s about loving a person even if you don’t communicate with the person anymore. “I Hope She Likes Me Back” In music it’s often a female’s point of view on having a crush, but in this song it’s the male point of view and the instrumentals are good. “Honey” The lyrics are cute and it gives the feeling of falling in love or when having a crush.
“Rest up” The vocals and it gives out the vibes of a song you would listen to at three in the morning or when lost deep in thoughts. It has a calming vibe to it. Considering that this is his debut album, Boy Pablo did a good job on it. He has matured his sound since his first two EPs.and lyrics which is new from what he usually writes about. This album is refreshing listening to a male’s point of view about love and its struggle and not degrading the female or putting all the blame on her. The videos are a 10/10 because it was a cute series, he didn’t have to do the extreme or be vulgar for a good music video. The settings were beautiful and the color scheme was warm and colorful for the relationship state and monotone but with a bit of warm colors for the breakup state. If you are into a calm indie pop album with a storyline, Wachito Rico by Boy Pablo is for you. Rating: 9/10
Top films that will appeal By: Lidia Garcia Everyone likes spending time laying down and enjoying a nice movie. What if you were told to watch a movie based on your zodiac sign? If you believe in zodiac signs, then maybe your characteristics can guarantee you a movie you’d like to watch.
Capricorn (Dec.23-Jan.19) Typically a Capricorn is associated with family and being reliable. So, when it comes to movies think of animation. A good suggestion would be Incredibles, which is about a superhero family that lives in a world that can't accept them and they just want to save people. Another good movie is Ghostbusters that is about a group of friends that are trying to bust some ghosts out there town. If you're a Capricorn it’ll bring the kid out of you; don't need to always be a workaholic you know.
Aquarius (Jan.20- Feb.18) Ideally Aquarius are independent and their movie type just is quite the opposite of that. Romantic movies are the way to go, not only that but old classic movies are your type too. A classic romance that everyone has to watch at least once is Twilight. It's a display of vampires and wolves that fight for the love of a regular girl that has to decide between which one she likes more. It continues with sequels, and books that are good to get the complete story.
Another classic is Pride and Prejudice, that has the perfect old vibe of romance. A young girl meets a man that every girl fans over, but she doesn't see the big deal to him at first. Hurry and go grab that tissue box and a warm blanket.
Pisces (Feb.19- Mar.20) Pisces, you are very creative and are known for being loving and compassionate towards others. Watch To All the Boys I've Loved Before and its sequel because it will make you have that heartwarming feeling that you're looking for. The movies follow a young girl in her high school years that confesses her love to the school popular guy and in which she does not intend to happen. Pisces are also known to enjoy slight horror movies and one that is a classic is Scream. If you have not watched this movie then have you been living under a rock for years? It’s about a group of high school students that don't end up in a good situation. It’s filled with thrills and chills.
Aries (Mar.21- Apr.19) Aries are a big ball of energy and strong spirit. So the obvious type of movie would be action and adventure packed ones. The first suggestion is Bad Boys, which follows two best friends that are cops and these two are a great combination of teammates that break down cases with
the right amount of humor. It'll keep you off your couch just seeing them jump off buildings and the chase downs they have. Another great movie is Commando, which stars Arnold Schwarzenegger. Unfortunately, this is another one that is not school appropriate but to put in words that will get an Aries’ attention is it has over the top scenes that will guarantee your childish characteristics will be satisfied.
Taurus (Apr.20-May20) Don't take this in the wrong way Taurus, but you are known to be stubborn yet carry yourselves with a responsible manner. Saying that they’re movie type is typically something entertaining that will keep them in place and feel some sort of emotion. The Great Gatsby is a great romance drama that is as well a must watch of old classics and great acting skills in the film. The movie is about a young man drawn into the rich lifestyle around him. Any Rocky movie will be enough for you to sit back and watch this man become a famous wrestler, who struggles with normal and difficult stuff behind his boxing career.
Gemini (May 21- June 20) Movies for Geminis are difficult to find because they enjoy movies that keep them on the edge of their seats. A top great movie that was popular and different off the bat would be Bird Box if you haven't watched it already. The movie is about a strange occurrence where
