Sustainability and Climate Adaptation Sustainability is at the core of SUND Nature Park’s design. The park is equipped to handle extreme weather events, including the so-called 100-year cloudbursts, without flooding the surrounding area. Rainwater from the park, building, and green roofs is collected, naturally cleansed, and recycled for irrigation and greywater use within the Mærsk Tower. This sustainable approach is complemented by the park's integration into Copenhagen's cycling culture, featuring an underground bicycle parking facility with space for a thousand bikes.

Break out in the big city

20

An outdoor table that offers practicality, easy transport and fun? Step up your game with the Manille picnic table! Just like the card game it’s named after, Manille embraces traditions, smart moves, and maximizing options. From a cozy setting for four to a sprawling table for twelve, with its unique design and practical features, Manille is sure to pull the right card.

Manille shade No need to drag an umbrella stand to the table, by the way. The incredibly simple shade system is entirely fixed onto the backrests of the Manille picnic set. Simply roll out the canvas to protect everyone from the sun.

The card game Centuries ago, the Manille card game made its way to France and Western Belgium. Today, the game remains immensely popular in West Flanders, and also at the Extremis offices. Manille is played both at home and in cafes while having a drink and a chat, whether around noon on Sundays or late at night on weekdays. It’s ingrained in our DNA. So, when seated at a table for four, the natural thing to do is... play those cards!

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

What makes Manille stand out is its versatility. Extend the table in length by connecting multiple tables. Thanks to a connection piece, you can join as many tables together as you want. After connecting the tables, the benches are still as accessible as before.

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

Upoffiz headquarters, Ghent Upoffiz is a sustainable, all-inone business hub for growing SMEs and professionals. It seamlessly merges work, nature, and relaxation by offering flexible offices alongside shared meeting rooms, multimedia studios, and event spaces. Its flagship project opened in Ghent in 2024.

25

When work becomes fun

Work isn’t confined to office walls

Facilitating get-togethers, informal meetings, and quick catch-ups should be part of every plan for new office spaces. These small, unplanned moments often spark the ideas and connections that formal meetings never quite reach. That’s why the atmosphere at Upoffiz feels so relaxed. People move freely between focused work and casual exchange, and everyone is eager to help each other move forward. A space that invites people to pause, talk, and reconnect throughout the day naturally brings teams closer together. The story of Upoffiz starts with Upgrade Estate, a well-known Belgian real estate developer. After finding massive success with their student housing (Upkot) and young professional housing (Upliving) brands, they noticed a missing piece: flexible, inspiring spaces for growing companies. We had a conversation with founder and CEO Nele Vandamme.

26

27

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

“I’m Nele Van Damme, co-CEO of Upgrade Estate, the company behind brands such as UpKot, UpLiving and UpOffice. What we do is create and manage sustainable housing, with one main goal: connecting people in and around our buildings. We hold sustainability in very high regard, and greenery plays a crucial role in all of our brands.”

“YOU REALLY SEE THEM LAUGH AND HAVE A GOOD TIME, AND IN A PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT IS VERY OFTEN UNDERESTIMATED” NELE VANDAMME — FOUNDER & CEO OF UPGRADE ESTATE

It starts with the design of a new project. We bring a landscape architect and an architect together from the very first design phase, so that they develop a plan in which everyone has a view of greenery. That is really the starting point. We have also measured the effect of greenery on people’s wellbeing and performance, and it is remarkably large. We see it happen live here every day. Concretely, at UpOffiz Loop 5 in Ghent, we chose a fairly playful design. We always start from the idea that adults also have a stake in having fun at work. That’s why we created all kinds of spots on this site where people can not only enjoy themselves, but also work together outdoors and eat together. These are elements that break the ice between people. You really see them laugh and have a good time, and in a professional context that is something that is very often

When work becomes fun

28

29

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

underestimated, even overlooked. Here, it is a core element. The whole outdoor experience holds a surprise around every corner, and you simply want to be here and stay here. We also found it important to give people the chance to work outside, so they don’t just see the greenery from their office but actually experience it by sitting among it. That’s why we chose to create a kind of round outdoor pod. There is

wifi everywhere and power sockets everywhere, so at every table people can simply sit down with their laptop or even hold an informal meeting. Among the greenery, with some music in the background, it simply makes the working day so much more pleasant. We set out to find objects and materials that align closely with our vision and mission, and sustainability is a very large part of that. That’s why

a Belgian partner was very important to us, but good design matters too, of course, because the whole environment has to feel right. You can only grow a community if all the ingredients in your environment are right, and if people feel that every detail has been considered, and that it feels genuine. With the furniture from Extremis, we find that we can achieve that very well.

Accessible for all

34

Accessibility isn’t a recent addition to our thinking. It’s baked into Extremis design, starting with our very first table. Gargantua, our iconic debut design, was built with a simple trick: remove a bench, and you’ve made room for two wheelchairs. Two benches gone, four spots open. No ramps, no separate “accessible version,” no afterthought. Just one table that works for everyone sitting around it.

ACCESSIBLE Built for everyone That same logic has shaped our products ever since, especially those finding their way into (semi) public spaces: parks, campuses, offices, and squares where everyone should have a seat at the table - literally. Good design doesn’t ask people to adapt to the furniture. It’s the furniture that adapts to the people. Because a “Tool for Togetherness” only really works when everyone has a place at the table.

35

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

A word on ADA Compliance ADA compliance means a product, space, or service meets the accessibility standards set by the Americans with Disabilities Act, ensuring people with disabilities have equal access and use. With every product we design, we aim to remove as many barriers as possible.

FOR ALL

Gargantua, our very first table, was designed as a family table, with the option to put the adjustable benches at tabletop height, allowing for chairs and wheelchairs to be used.

Accessible for all

36

37

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

Panigiri, adapted for wheelchair accessibility thanks to the possibility to freely vary table seats with or without benches.

A freestanding Manille table accomodates 4 people, but (wheel) chairs can be used on both ends.

Also Hopper picnic can accomodate two (wheel)chairs at the table ends. The Combo version is even better, accomodating up to 4 (wheel)chairs at one side, leaving a bench on the other side.

As a variation on the standard version, you can order Pantagruel, Virus (4p & 5p) and Anker with one bench left out.

Marina is also adapted for wheelchair accessibility thanks to the possibility to vary tables eats with or without benches.

Our garden sculpture Picnik with two seats, allows for a 3rd companion to join, as one side is completely open, offering plenty of leg room.

A landscape with a legacy In the forested hills of Yugawara lies a park with a story. It once belonged to the villa of Meiji-era industrialist Magobei Okura, and was later opened for medical treatment under the name “Youjouen,” or “Okura Park.” The spirit of Soyu, nurtured by the villagers as a communal treasure, lives on in its landscape today.

Collaborating with the local community, Extremis is proud to contribute to this legacy, placing our timeless, sturdy Pantagruel picnic tables on the terrace of this historic onsen. Here, visitors can experience the charm of Yugawara, take a breath, and recharge from the daily hustle. Indestructible Inumbra parasols, integrated directly into the Pantagruel tabletops, offer shelter from sun and rain for visitors and locals alike. Proof that thoughtful design can honour a site’s history while serving the people who use it today.

Hit the pause button For this massive mall in Craiova, Extremis was called in. They asked us if we could provide our furniture – or rather, our Tools for Togetherness – both inside and outside the mall as relaxation spots for enjoying drinks and snacks. Of course! And could we propose robust furniture that would last for many years? Absolutely!

Upon completion of the brandnew project, the unity of these relaxation areas is striking. The client chose repairable and easy to clean Extremis products in a recognizable color palette that aligns with their brand identity in this area of intense traffic.

You’ll also find identical furniture in various locations: both outdoors, inside the mall, and in several covered outdoor areas, you’ll encounter clusters of Hopper, Picnik, Virus with Acacia shade, Gargantua or Pantagruel. Visitors unconsciously mark these zones as places for a moment of rest between shopping.

Interview with Ewout Vanvooren from landscape architects Bureau Knockaert Bureau Cnockaert is a family business from Wervik, Belgium with 60 years of experience in urban planning, water management, and public space design. They contributed to the courtyard/outdoor space of the Voka office in Kortrijk, and we met there with Ewout Vanvooren to ask him about his job and their vision on this project: I’m Ewout Vanvooren, landscape architect and urban planner at Bureau Cnockaert. We design public space, on one hand the technical side, on the other, the experience. Together with our team, we combine both into a working whole for every aspect of public space.

For us, greenery is not optional, it is essential in an office environment, and in public space in general. An office should always have access to greenery, a place to spend time in, to sit, even to work. We see it as a huge added value for the working person. From each desk, an office should have green in sight however, this is almost

mandatory. With changing climate conditions, hot and wet days are alternating more and more quickly. Working outside is one way to deal with that, and it stimulates the mind. We all know the effects of greenery close by, on our health and on our living environment. That’s why we wanted to create different kinds of spots in this garden: a simple bench, or a larger picnic spot for midday. We felt it was important to offer both. Together with Extremis, we went looking for different types of seating, benches and a large table, to elevate the space. We wanted this green space to be easy and quick to experience, not just to look at, but to actually be in. Being there, lingering, is the key part. I sit on a fairly simple concept myself (Hopper bench), easy for a quick chat, but you can also turn around and get some work done, or talk things through with a colleague. In the larger central space, we also needed a bigger picnic table. Its length (Panigiri Hellwood) encourages people to meet: two or three people sitting in different spots, naturally coming together. That’s exactly what we want this place to do, encourage encounters, and let them happen spontaneously...

This mobile model runs in Thomas's blood. In the early pioneering years, he already traveled to his target audience with his partner Ashlee and a fully loaded trailer, visiting more than 70 cities. The current roadshow can be seen as a mature translation of that same pioneering spirit.

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

The roadshow grew out of a critical look at how marketing resources perform best. Rather than relying solely on brief appearances at large trade fairs, Extremis brings the experience directly to the doorstep of American architecture firms,

dealerships, project developers, and end users. "It's actually a very logical and sustainable story," explains Thomas, director of Extremis Inc. "Instead of briefly meeting just a few employees of an office at a trade show, we're aiming for much higher-

quality interaction. We simply park in front of their door to organize a personalized Extremis pop-up event. During a happy hour or lunch and learn, we get the chance to meet the entire team, in their own familiar surroundings and with real time for depth. In our industry, a lot comes down to building long-term relationships, and this approach is exceptionally well suited to that.”

The Tour4togetherness functions as a design hub on wheels, where American B2B relations can experience the quality and thoughtful design of Extremis in person.

In a society that's constantly in motion, the brand's philosophy remains rock solid. The way we work and live is changing at a record pace, and only

MEETINGS WITH SUN WARRANTY

Panigiri

Sit under a terrace roof in Belgium and the sky can turn grey soon enough — but at this table, the sun always shines through.

NOA, Belgium One of the many pavilions in the inspiration parc around the headquarters of Renson and Onzo in Kruisem now holds a curryyellow Panigiri. With its glazed lava

stone benches and tabletop, this is a robust meeting table that simply refuses to get dirty. A spilled coffee wipes clean in one pass, and the surface resists scratches too.

Panigiri Lava

UNLIMITED GLAZED LAVA TOP After launching Panigiri with its warm wooden benches and tabletop, we were already dreaming of a version that would be even more luxurious, scratch-resistant, and almost maintenance-free. Sicilian lavastone proved the perfect sustainable choice for Panigiri’s Mediterranean spirit.

With lavic stone abundantly available near Mount Etna, we believe it’s the most sustainable natural stone we can offer. With or without optional colored glazing, it becomes a sleek, luxurious, scratch-resistant and low-maintenance outdoor retreat.

The outstanding advantages of lava stone • Glazed lava stone is hard and resistant to scratches, abrasions, and everyday wear. Think about coffee mugs, glasses, plates... • Glazed stone is non-porous, so it resists stains from wine, oil, or sauces. • It can withstand high temperatures — hot pots, pans, or dishes won’t damage it. • The lava stone is perfect for outdoor use: sunlight, rain, and temperature fluctuations won’t fade or degrade it. The surface prevents water absorption and warping. • And last but not least, it is soooo easy to clean — a simple wipe with mild detergent is enough.

Halo product special

WORK, EAT, LAUGH, NAP protected from the sun. Since the launch of Inumbra, the ideal parasol for our first picnic table, We have considered sun protection for every new design. Be it in an all-in-one concept or a more flexible solution.

Protecting the skin from the sun is, after all, a real priority when it comes to outdoor living, and so too for working outdoors. Shade also offers comfort: it can make the heat bearable, and it avoids direct or indirect sun glare, such as on a smooth table surface or on your laptop screen. In short, a shade maker doesn't just protect your skin. It makes outdoor living far more pleasant too.

— or keiseki in japanese In Japanese, keiseki means stone — a reference to the zen gardens of Japan, where raked gravel surrounds larger stones and boulders in a picture of stillness and quiet order. The Keiseki chair carries that same spirit: closed, it all but disappears, settling into its surroundings like a stone in a garden and keeping the cushions dry and protected from the rain. It leaves behind a calm, neutral presence when not in use.

TOOLS FOR TOGETHERNESS

Good furniture lasts a long time. Great furniture lasts generations. At Extremis, we’ve been designing and making outdoor furniture for over 30 years – built to withstand everything from blazing sunshine to torrential rain. That experience has taught us exactly which materials are reliable. And those are the only ones we use. Each material has its strengths – and sensitivities. That’s why we don’t give a standard warranty, but one tailored to the material in your furniture. Steel should not rust. Coating should not peel. Wood should not rot. So from now on, you’ll receive – in addition to the legal warranty – up to 15 years of coverage on the materials we use. Because if there’s one thing we’re sure of, it’s this: our furniture can take a beating. Literally.

Galvanized steel Enjoy an impressive 15-year warranty on all galvanized steel parts. We proudly use this exceptional Cradle to Cradle certified technique to protect steel from rusting, incorporating it into nearly all our designs. You’ll find a convenient overview of all material-specific warranty periods on our website.

Coated metals, stainless steel, wood and Sunbrella We offer a comprehensive 5-year warranty on all powder coated metal parts, stainless steel components, wooden parts, and Sunbrella fabrics. This extension ensures that all key materials of our products are covered.

About durability SUSTAINABILITY

QUALITY CONTROL

MAINTENANCE

REPAIRS

When discussing durability, material quality is only part of the equation: a product’s impact throughout its entire lifecycle and how its design influences its longevity. We must dare to ask the question: is a product useful and necessary?

We ensure every product meets industry standards. Many of our products are tested according to TÜV standards, but our own internal quality control is at least as important.

‘As little maintenance as possible’ is our core mantra when designing a Tool for Togetherness. However, every material and finish option comes with its own advantages and disadvantages and a little maintenance will always help to keep your product in shape.

Ensuring a product’s durability also means preventing it from being discarded due to damage or erosion of a single small part. We design for repairability!
