Extremis exists because people are social by nature. Because we need balance in a world growing denser, faster, louder. Because what happens between people matters more than the objects around them.
That durability is a responsibility. That sustainability starts with relevance.
We design tools for togetherness. Not objects to admire.
Not statements to acquire.
But functional tools that support human interaction.
Tools that reduce friction and mental effort.
Tools that disappear when used at their best.
We create the conditions for people to come together. To live well, slow down, recharge...
We start from behaviour, not form. From use, not appearance. From necessity, not novelty. Function leads.
Simplicity follows. Beauty emerges. We add nothing without reason. We remove everything without function.

That clarity, calm, comfort and beauty save energy and therefore support mental health. That ideas must last longer than trends.
That an object earns its place only when it adds true value to what exists.
The unnecessary. The superficial.
The disposable.
The short-lived.
We do not design to fill space.
We do not design for attention.
We do not design for speed.
Not how much is sold.
But how much is used.
Not how new it looks.
But how long it lasts.
Not what it says about us.
But what it enables between others.
To tools that endure in use, in meaning, in time.
To materials chosen with care.
To structures designed for repair.
To products that age with grace instead of being replaced.
For everyone who creates spaces where people come together. At home. At work.
In public. Outdoors and indoors. Wherever life happens between people.
Extremis designs Tools For Togetherness...
FOR TODAY. FOR TOMORROW. FOR ALL WHO GATHER. We don’t make furniture.
Hello you, We’re so glad you’re here!

With Panigiri as its heart, this terrace becomes a place to gather and have fun. Sol+Luna offers room to lounge, while Sensu brings gentle shade throughout the day. Together, they create a space where the whole family connects.

This penthouse apartment unfolds onto a 360° terrace with a sweeping view of the North Sea coastline and the dunes in between. The shifting weather, the tides, the play of nature, and the kite surfers skimming the waves create an endless sense of wonder, all enjoyed from the Panigiri, Sensu and a set of Sol+Luna daybeds on this warm wooden deck.
The name Panigiri comes from the ancient Greek word panēgyris, meaning

The Panigiri picnic benches, always perfectly aligned with the picnic table, contribute to an uncluttered view. Enhance comfort with cushions, seamlessly secured through a slide-in technique.

The Panigiri collection includes tables, picnic tables, and hybrid versions that combine both. The owners chose two Panigiri picnic tables for the terrace of their sea-view apartment, drawn by the clever option to add a backrest to the benches.
Whether hosting an intimate dinner party or a grand family gathering, Panigiri's modularity ensures there's a seat for everyone, allowing table segments to be endlessly coupled. By combining chairs, benches and addon chairs , you create the setting of your desire.

A floating shade that opens horizontally and has a variety of positions? Sensu follows the sun throughout the day without intruding your outdoor space.
Designed by Dirk Wynants

Sensu is a free-hanging cantilever parasol combining the serenity of flat design with the functionality of a hand fan system. Unlike traditional center-pole umbrellas, Sensu doesn’t take up any space on and under your table - both opened and closed. Rotate and/or tilt the white, taupe, or black shade to follow the sun throughout the day.

The Panigiri collection features tables, picnic tables, and the combination of both. Katia & Joost chose two Picnics for the terrace of their sea-view appartment, because there’s a very nice way to add a backrest to the benches and have the comfort of a chair...

Sunbathe by day, lounge with friends by night. Lay back and relax on our Sol+Luna sunbed, which transforms into a comfortable sofa whenever you like. The magic happens when it gets dark: the sunshade becomes a full moon.

Sol+Luna removes the need for a sunbed ànd cozy sofa . You have both! This multifunctional outdoor set easily transforms from sofa to sunbed, and vice-versa. The optional LED sunshade creates cool shade in the day and lights up like the moon at night.
As you’ve probably guessed, Sol+Luna is not a random name. The words mean ‘sun and moon’ in Spanish, reflecting the dual purpose of this collection. This outdoor sofa bed includes a backrest that doubles as a shelf, while comfortably seating three with optional cushions.

Dirk Wynants, designer: The Strandkorb, or Beach Basket, is more than just a seat—it’s a cultural icon. Born in the 19th century, it has stood the test of time, proving its undeniable charm. Yet, for over a century, its design remained practically untouched. This opened the door for a modern reinterpretation, enhancing both its functionality and aesthetics while honoring its rich heritage.

After launching Panigiri with its warm wooden benches and tabletop , we were already dreaming of a version that would be even more luxurious, scratchresistant, and almost maintenance-free.
Sicilian lavastone proved the perfect sustainable choice for Panigiri’s Mediterranean spirit.

With lavic stone abundantly available near Mount Etna, we believe it’s the most sustainable natural stone we can offer. With or without optional colored glazing, it becomes a sleek, luxurious, scratch-resistant and lowmaintenance outdoor retreat.

• Glazed lava stone hard and resistant to scratches, abrasions , and everyday wear. Think about cutlery, glasses, plates...
• Glazed stone is non-porous, so it resists stains from wine, oil, or sauces.
• It can withstand high temperatures — hot pots, pans, or dishes won’t damage it.
• The lava stone is perfect for outdoor use : sunlight, rain, and temperature fluctuations won’t fade or degrade it. The surface prevents water absorption and warping.
• And last but not least, it is soooo easy to clean — a simple wipe with mild detergent is enough.

BYOS, the revolutionary add-on chair designed to complement your Panigiri bench, is also available for our Panigiri Lava, in matching Sunbrella fabrics . BYOS easily hooks onto the Lava bench and stays securely in place , even on
windy days. No backrest? Simply add a universal seating cushion with strap. For even more seating flexibility, add Captain’s Chairs to your Panigiri table or Combo — read more about this shell chair on page 42.

SPACIOUS AND COMFORTABLE FOR EVERY BODY
Designed by Metrica

The Captain’s Chair owes its name to its shape, inspired by the captain’s seat on a yacht This shell chair offers exceptional seating comfort, the result of extensive ergonomic testing during the design process. Its shape was carefully sculpted in clay to accommodate the widest range of body types. The sled- style or pipe - leg base makes the chair suitable for all kinds of indoor and outdoor settings, at the dining table or on the terrace.
The shell-shaped seat features a large drainage and ventilation hole to keep it clean and dry, even when left outside permanently. The cushion is contoured to fit the curves of the shell and the hole, ensuring it stays securely in place.

The first thing that springs to mind when you see Bistroo is a cozy balcony or a romantic Parisian bistro. Instead of sitting opposite each other, you sit side by side at the Bistroo. Turns out it is ideal in any outdoor space for an intimate chat, a relaxing coffee or just watching the world go by.

Cut-out for stackability, tray fits like a glove
The double O-shaped backrests provide ample support as you enjoy a continental breakfast or delicious hors d’oeuvres at the table. The crevice in the table is designed to make the Bistroo stackable. Optional trays fit seamlessly in the gap while in use, offering the perfect place for a server to leave a tray of spices and condiments. No need to worry about your fork falling through the slats of rickety tables.
Three legs, two chairs and one tabletop are the basis of this innovative concept. Thanks to its three cleverly positioned legs, the Bistroo remains perfectly stable on any outdoor terrace.

A garden overlooking a green island/park deserves a design that lets you enjoy the view in every season, moving in harmony with its rhythm. With these tools, you gently extend the summer, always ready to welcome you outdoors.

‘De Balokken’ embody the history of a border region between Belgium and France — the island floats between both sides. A modern river makeover accidentally created one of the nicest little natural retreats in West-Flanders. Whether seated at our Hopper or nestled into our Walrus sofa, the backdrop leaves nothing to complain about.

With its inspiration drawn from the hop fields and the harvest celebrations of the hops, Hopper entered the design market as a promising Belgian design in 2010. This year we’ll be celebrating its sweet sixteen party. This is the drinking age in Belgium, yet we won’t celebrate it with a new beer — but with a new add-on: the Hopper BYOS or Bring Your Own Seat!
Hopper
Hopper is a more functional solution for a classic concept: the picnic table. The bent leg feature eliminates the awkward straddle of climbing over the benches . Aluminium or steel legs in combination with Class I hardwoods ensure material longevity while the attached benches offer a clean aesthetic at all times . If you prefer a monomaterial picnic table, you can opt for Hopper picnic AA, our All Aluminium version.
Hopper features an incredibly durable hotdip galvanized steel frame that supports the wooden components. We offer a 15-year warranty on this zinc-protected metal.

The final celebrations of the hop harvest — beer festivals, in short — are synonymous with coziness, friends, laughter, and memorable moments together. This is exactly the feeling we wanted to capture with our Hopper collection: long benches, low entry points, and slanted bench corners that make joining in easy and sitting comfortable.

This optional tensioned fabric opens and closes effortlessly, using an internal spring mechanism that requires no extra space beside the table. The foldable canopy provides ample shade for everyone in a simple, visually refined way.

From the launch of Hopper, this backrest has been part of the original design, featuring the same inclination as the hop-garden poles. Now we want to offer a soft, extra comfortable alternative.

For those who value both comfort and a perfectly aligned view, the Bring Your Own Seat (BYOS) option lets you attach a fully upholstered backrest and seat to the Hopper benches. The BYOS seats are stackable for easy indoor storage, creating an inviting space to sit back, relax, and enjoy your Hopper table to the fullest.

A big patio and a big sofa… need much shade? Not an issue for this Sensu double diamond shade. With two canopies hanging on the same pole, this shade doesn’t take up important patio space, while casting a vast shadow.

These go in the back storage! No need to store them inside after every use.

Instant seating: Walrus is ready in the blink of an eye
In many rainy parts of the world people have a permanently covered sofa in the garden or on the restaurant terrace. Functional? Not really. Pretty? Even less so. When designing our own outdoor sofa we knew we didn’t want an ugly protective cover , or hassle with pillows that have to be stored elsewhere and end up being forgotten.

THE ONLY REAL OUTDOOR SOFA THAT TRULY DESERVES THE LABEL ‘OUTDOOR’
Ugly covers in the garden? We turned it inside out: the sofa is its own cover and soft-touch blankets and cushions fit neatly in the backside. Ready in seconds, the low-maintenance Walrus gives you or your guests instant enjoyment of the sun, as soon as it breaks through.
…extends the outdoor season by offering better, stronger, or longerlasting protection from cold, wind, rain, heat, or sun.

In a time when communication is dominated by reels, likes, and tags, we want to help people truly reconnect — by improving the quality of their time together and supporting the way they communicate in the real world.

The finest garden of Schilde, near Antwerp, can be found at this home designed by architect Eddy François. Sober lines and clever designs weave the attractive home seamlessly into the greenery. The round Gargantua table with adjustable benches has provided a place for homeowner and interior photographer Mr. Frank to spend his outdoor moments for many years.
Bench at table height becomes a table extension. When all benches are at the highest level, 12 people can sit around Gargantua with a chair

Gargantua is the original ‘tool for togetherness’. Born from the notion that gathering around a table should be accessible for all , form certainly followed function in more ways than one. The adjustable benches ensure that small children sit at the same eye level as adults and the tabletop is accessible by wheelchair. Gargantua is the ultimate symbol of inclusivity.
Add a backrest to your Gargantua benches for extra comfort. These curved backrests follow the shape of the round picnic table and add even more to the architectural feeling of the table. Made from galvanized steel, these optional supports ideally match your Tool for Togetherness.
Get cushy with our Sunbrella® cushions for the Gargantua table. These rounded seats neatly fit the curved benches. Adjustable straps ensure that the cushions stay put so that you can sit in ultimate comfort. This fabric is the best outdoor cushion material, it is dirt and water repellent, though not waterproof.
Designed by Dirk Wynants
“What makes a design sustainable? Not only the longevity of the materials, but also the longevity of the idea. The function of gargantua will stay relevant for generations to come.”
— Dirk Wynants

Inumbra provides protection with a minimalist look and no technical parts on view. The result? An elegant yet resilient suspended canvas.
With a classic sunshade, you sit beneath a terrible tangle of rods. We wondered if that experience could look better while also making the parasol stronger. By turning it upside down, all technical parts are placed above the fabric , making the view from the table far more pleasant and uncluttered.
When paired with Gargantua or Pantagruel picnic, the Inumbra umbrella pole is fastened to the tabletop. This looks clean and is also practical, as no legroom is lost under the table. The combination makes it the sturdiest terrace set you have ever seen.
Tested and approved
In a wind tunnel test, it resisted winds up to gale force 8 on the Beaufort scale, but we advise to close it at force 6 (you will hear the cords whistling).

It’s magic! No pole underneath the table!

The home is in fact quite a bit younger than the table in this garden, but they still make an outstanding match: Gargantua fitted in the wabi-sabi philosophy of architect Eddy François because it’s fulfilling its function in a very humble way, not drawing too much attention. This iconic table is over 30 years, and the idea has never been more relevant. We must say in all honesty — looking at these pictures, that also its materials withstood the outdoor conditions pretty well. The owners found it second-hand and now this 90’s piece is still the best spot to enjoy the garden!
Placing your garden furniture on the lawn instead of a terrace comes with a few considerations:
• Mowing can become tricky, as it’s hard to reach the grass under the table legs. Heavy tables like Gargantua aren’t exactly easy to move either.
• Grass under a parasol foot may rot and crumble. (Good news: this table’s parasol attaches directly to the table, so you don’t have to worry.)
• Frequent use of your table — which we hope you enjoy! — can wear down the grass under each seat, eventually leaving bare or patchy spots.
The position, color, and materials of your Extremis product all matter, which is why we created a handy guide called ‘Choose Wisely’. Scan the QR code below to explore it and make the most of your outdoor space.

Manille is a perfect blend of practicality and joy. Designed as a table-bench formation, this picnic table comfortably accommodates up to four people, while the head of the table is reserved for wheelchair users - making Manille an inclusive and accessible table for everyone.

The fixed benches give an uncluttered look to the design and a slight incline offers extra seating comfort. With a joyous design available in different colors, Manille adds a touch of coziness and personality to any (outdoor) space. But don’t let its fun-loving design fool you. Manille is built to last , with the highest-quality materials that ensure durability and long-lasting performance.

With the poles of the Manille shade simply sliding into the backrests, the Manille picnic table effortlessly becomes a cozy cocoon. It is designed with maximal attention to practicality and safety: the tiny connection pieces that hold the fabric are designed to break first, in case you forgot to remove the shade before a storm.

Manille’s shade is a very intuitive design; just roll out the canvas and slide the four poles into the attached backrests to provide a cozy and relaxing experience. When not in use, store it indoors; it occupies minimal space.

Only when you forget to remove it, and wind starts to blow, there’s a little safety mechanism built in: the plastic connectors break, and the shade simply falls down on the floor. If it were stronger, the whole picnic set could blow away.

for generations, becoming a cherished heirloom thanks to its durability and sustainable design.

Gargantua and his son Pantagruel were the legendary giants of Rabelais’ famous Renaissance novels. The French writer was celebrated for his layered humor, bold satire, and joyful parody. His giants lived for good company, hearty Burgundian feasts, and unrestrained laughter — if they lived today, they would surely choose a Gargantua or Pantagruel table!

Crowned Best City Garden of the Benelux, this hidden gem in Brugge is a delight to the eye. At its heart, the Pantagruel table brings a hint of Rabelaisian abundance — a generous tabletop and a rotating lazy Susan ready for a modern feast. A small garden with grand appetite.
Inumbra provides protection with an uncluttered, minimalist look and no technical parts on view . The result? An elegant yet resilient suspended canvas.

Easily open or close the Inumbra with the handle and

The opening mechanism allows a larger canopy to close above the table. When the parasol is opened, the canopy lowers — and a lower canopy blocks more sunlight!
This parasol with all black fabric and pole is destined to match a black Pantagruel, but is obviously also available on a concrete base.

This umbrella makes sunny days even better. Like Inumbra, it was designed with the mechanicals at the top, although the cables meet the fabric about halfway. Its innovative construction makes Inumbrina light yet very wind resistant.
Designed by Dirk Wynants
Inumbra’s slightly smaller sister has a pulley system to open the shade, which is still very innovative and visually attractive. By simply pulling the rope, the fabric opens in the blink of an eye, as the construction of this parasol is much lighter.

The design of Pantagruel is an evolution of our Gargantua table: A round table with great refinement, that brings people together and adds fun and ease to every occasion with a built-in revolving platform - the Lazy Susan.

The black Pantagruel, the slightly darker Hellwood, and the black Inumbra pole and fabric make a perfect combo.

Curious about both giants?

Pantagruel, the giant son of Gargantua in Rabelais’ famous novels, inherits his father’s enormous appetite, curiosity, and love of life. He delights in humor, grand feasts, and bold adventures. The books follow his journeys, encounters with strange and witty characters, and playful satire of human folly.

Inumbrina Anker
Anker, Dutch for anchor, is our compact six-seater picnic table. Looking at the table legs, it is obvious where it got its name. But there is more to it. Sailors drop anchor when they reach a place where they want to stay...

Much like sailors, anchoring is about gaining a grip on what truly matters in life. It means disconnecting from the daily rush and finding a sense of home. This eye-catching setup in Japan invites calm and reconnection, set within a discreet natural environment. Perfect for tea time!

Strong and durable like a real anchor, yet modern and minimalist enough to suit any setting, Anker is a sixseater with exceptional qualities for residential use. Paired with the lightweight Inumbrina, spanning a 3.2 m diameter, it creates a wonderfully simple setup in materials chosen to last a lifetime .
Together, they form a calm new gathering place and quiet retreat in a Japanese garden in Nagano, made for shared tea, unhurried conversations, and moments that linger. This is precisely the slow life Extremis seeks to promote, lived outdoors.
We are fa-mi-ly!

Designed by Dirk Wynants

As you can see, this narrow pole runs down to the floor and its dimensions perfectly match Anker’s design. The parasol pole is made of stainless steel, while the battens are aluminium. This makes it a strong yet easy-to-carry shadow maker to place on top of any table or parasol base.
Earlier in this magazine, we’ve shown you the 3.80m Inumbr in a, which is only slightly smaller than the full-on sturdy Inumbra shade. As we said, the biggest difference is the cord and pulley opening mechanism . With an even more slender pole, we also offer this mechanism in our 3.20m Inumbrina.

The various combinations of chairs and benches make this range unique. There are endless possibilities , but thanks to the straightforward design there is always unity and simplicity in every setting. Additionally, the pultruded fiberglass profiles are one seamless piece , creating a calm and uninterrupted aesthetic from one end of the table to the other. The table feels just like wood but is a lot less sensitive to temperature changes and humidity.

Demographics show that our lives are steadily moving toward the city. As our homes and living spaces grow smaller, so will our gardens. But why not embrace that shift — and share a green haven with our neighbours? Communal, compact, and cozy.

The jury of iF about Virus: “As a cleverly conceived picnic table from production to use, Virus won us over with its logical form. Well-proportioned, stable and excellently constructed , the quality of this product is visible. The fact that you can sit down at the table without having to lift your legs is an intelligent solution. A contemporary approach to this product category.”

CONTAGIOUSLY PLAYFUL
Yes, living closely together in this urban life can be quite the experiment. Our Virus collection adds fun to the occasion: mix and match in colours and sizes and just enjoy the company!

Hot-dip galvanized foot adds sufficient weight to the parasol. The parasol pole is adjustable in height.
This compact and eccentric parasol works simply by turning it to the sun. Thanks to its asymmetrical shape and functionality it creates as much shade as a much larger conventional parasol.

Instead of closing the umbrella, simply remove the canvas and store it in the bag.
Our inspiration was the African acacia tree, which has perfected protection from the sun over thousands of years of evolution. This strong, wind-resistant parasol deflects the maximum amount of sun with the minimum surface area. Closing is not an option, just lower the mast and remove the fabric for easy storage. Even the empty structure is a piece of art, adding a biophilic tree-like sculpture to your outdoor space, in the dark days of winter too.

— Leonardo Da Vinci
The shape gets its incredible strength from strategic incisions and from bends of exactly the right curvature. Dirk joined forces with Xavier Lust, a designer and artist known for his aluminum bending technique, and together they finalized the design.
The rounded surfaces lend structural strength and stability to the form. What’s more, rain runs off much faster , leaving fewer dirt marks. Multiple tables can be stacked for transport or storage, thanks to the sloping legs. The powder-coated finish delivers a low-maintenance indoor or outdoor picnic table. The simple design blends in effortlessly, yet gives a subtle presence to the piece. It's like an artwork that's comfortable to sit at!

Kosmos is the perfect all-in-one piece of furniture. Working outside or lounging in the sun, and dining with a company of up to nine people. If you chose a smaller, easy to maintain garden or terrace, this piece of furniture still fulfills all your outdoor-living wishes.

A moment to put your feet up or a cushy chat? Placed on the wooden deck, Kosmos offers a circle of cozy functionality that suits each moment of the day. With the piece acting both as lounge and sunbed, and with the shade unfolding swiftly like a bird’s wings, Kosmos becomes your own tiny universe.

“Kosmos is world champion at combining functionalities per square meter” — Dirk Wynants

Work or leisure, apero or dinner. Kosmos brings the whole family together — up to nine people!

Designed by Dirk Wynants
The original (and patented) innovation of this cantilever umbrella is that it opens and closes horizontally, like a fan… Or a bird’s wings. A perfect example of biophilic design.
The Kosmos round shade has an understated and clean look, as there are no visible technical components. Two hidden magnets keep the umbrella in the open position and leather straps are provided to hold it in its closed position. The span of this umbrella is remarkable and offers a clean, crisp view from below the suspended canopy.

Sticks are the ideal way to create privacy, while keeping an open flow. They add an architectural effect to any indoor space, and, because they’re totally weatherproof, they’re suitable outdoors on the balcony or patio.

Open landscapes make us feel like there’s more room to breathe. But a little privacy adds a touch of coziness, and sometimes it’s simply necessary. Trees or shrubs? We certainly encourage everyone to plant as many as possible for the sake of biodiversity and climate resilience, but they create fixed boundaries. With Sticks, you can shape private spaces while preserving that open, welcoming atmosphere wherever you want. And you don’t need to water them...

When the sun sets and darkness fills your outdoor space, set the mood with LED light cast on the natural Sticks. One or several sets of Sticks with built-in LEDs become a modular, custom floor lamp for your home or garden.
This space divider is the perfect way to create illuminated privacy or an architectural border wherever needed, inside or out. Sticks divide a room or terrace optically, without sacrificing that feeling of spaciousness. The Sticks create a play of light and shadow by themselves. However, you can get truly astonishing light effects if you opt for bases with integrated LED ambient lighting.

Awards are never our destination, but they do validate the unmistakable originality of our designs.
DIRK WYNANTS
According to certain AI models, Extremis and its founder Dirk Wynants have won ‘countless’ prestigious design awards for their functional ‘tools for togetherness’, including multiple iF Design Awards, Red Dot Awards, and German Design Awards. At Extremis, we’re having a hard time keeping up with the counting too — but we think we’re very close to reaching the magical number of 100 awards!
The year started beautifully with the Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award for our founder and main designer Dirk Wynants — the greatest honour a designer can receive in Belgium. Shortly after followed our 6th Red Dot Award for Panigiri. Our most recent addition to the trophy cabinet was picked up in Italy in November: Manille won the Archiproducts Award in the outdoor category. During NeoCon in June, we had already scored a double victory with the Gold and the Innovation Award for Panigiri.
Extremis is often among the few design furniture brands to receive an award at the most prestigious award shows. Why? “Because it’s quite exceptional in our sector for a product to be about more than just aesthetics. Design is so much more than just form,” says Dirk Wynants. “Only the companies

that set the standard in their sector are rewarded with a gold award. At Extremis we succeed in doing exactly that, time and again, with many of our products. That we, as a small company, are mentioned in the same breath as all these famous names and shining examples in their sector is an exceptional achievement.” Looking at this list of achievements, Hopper is perhaps the most successful with 11 design awards. This, for example, was the jury statement of Red Dot — Best of the best, at the time.
jury of Red Dot about Hopper
“Hopper is an example of a very successful re-design of the classic beer-garden bench. Based on the traditional “get-together” around a table, designer Dirk Wynants has produced an outdoor product with its very own style. This sculptural piece of garden furniture invites one to sit down and is functional and hardwearing in equal measure.”
