WATERVIEW CAMPUS PROGRAM

Mon Aerial Robotics 5th-6th

The objective of this course is to introduce coding and robotics to our younger students at the Waterview campus. Aerial robotics will use age-appropriate drones to introduce concepts such as critical thinking, coding, with a focus on the physics of flight. A visual programming environment will be our primary method to introduce coding. This course is a continuation of the drone unit from CM1. We will touch on the dynamics of flight, motors & magnetism, the electromagnetic spectrum, and, of course, coding. Fri Be A Chef 5th-8th

In this hands-on activity, you will dive into a fun and interactive cooking experience. You will learn about fresh food, cooking techniques and seasoning, learning appropriate terminology that will help you to better read and understand recipe preparations. Basic Skills-A few of the basic skills you can learn in the kitchen are knife skills, basic cooking methods, such as searing and braising, menu development, and meal prep. You will learn to create a menu and prepare desserts and dishes... and you will get to taste what you prepare!

Thurs Chess 1 Beginner / Intermediate

5th-8th

Come join in the fun and learn how to get started playing chess. Your NTCA Chess Coach is excited to spend the semester teaching you how to set up the chess board, how the pieces move, how to capture, chess notation, check, checkmate, castling and the ABC’s to starting a game. The class will also include fun facts about chess history and current events. Of course, there will be plenty of activities and playing!

Thurs Chess 2 Beginner / Intermediate

9th-12th

This semester of chess is designed for players who can play a full game of chess through checkmate, by the rules. Your NTCA Chess Coach will introduce 1-move chess puzzles and strategies to help you advance in your game. You will continue to learn about chess history and current events. Yes, we will be playing plenty of chess too.

Creative writing, a form of artistic expression, draws on the imagination to convey meaning using imagery, narrative, and drama. This contrasts with analytic or pragmatic forms of writing. This genre includes poetry, fiction (novels, short stories), scripts, screenplays, and creative non-fiction. Students will explore and create various works of fiction.

Thurs Drone Building 6th-12th

Do you want to learn how to build your own drone from scratch? This class is just for you! You will be provided with all the electronic components, supplies, and tools needed to build a do-it-yourself (DIY) drone. You will learn how to build a drone, the basics of flying, and programming drones from a Ground Control Station (GCS). You will also learn how to solder, the basics of electrical components and power while using your hands to build. You will practice problem-solving skills, learn math and science concepts, programming skills and more. Best of all, you keep everything!

Thurs Dungeons & Dragons

"Students can activate their imaginations, develop productive social skills, and learn about Medieval technology and folklore by playing the 1st edition of Advanced Dungeons and Dragons in a campaign with the teacher, or can create and play their own campaigns. For grades 8 - 12." and "If you enjoy drawing comics or anime characters, come to the Comic Drawing Club! Spend time practicing and developing your skills in a salon-like setting where members share their art and help each other to learn new drawing skills, with some tricks and advice from the teacher. For all ages."

Thurs Hot Strings 1 5th-6th Have you been dreaming of learning how to play the guitar? Then this workshop is for you! With professional musician David Mouyal you will learn to master the basics before starting to work on more advanced techniques such as picking exercises and basic scales to prepare you for band practice. You can bring your own guitar or use one of ours.

Tues Mix Master If you are passionate about sound engineering and studio recording, this workshop is for you!We will start with the basics of audio production and learn to use Ableton Live 11 Digital Audio Workstation. We will then start creating our own audio productions using various instruments. At the end of this workshop, you will have learnt to record, edit, mix and put together your own audio creation.Your instructor, David Mouyal, is a seasoned sound engineer and a musician who has performed across Europe.

You will learn to different techniques, get to use a potter's wheel, and live the magic of transforming clay into a beautiful art object.
