Greetings from the Hunter Valley This month has kicked off with the arrival of our first rebuilds - a very welcome sight for the branch. Meanwhile, the Sales Team has been on fire, racking up some seriously impressive wins. On another note, Gaz (Garry Hollingsworth) has decided it’s time to hang up the boots and head into retirement. We wish him all the very best and have no doubt he’s got plenty of exciting adventures lined up. Before he rides off into the sunset, join us tomorrow at 3pm for drinks and a sausage sizzle to give Gaz the send-off he deserves - it’s his final day, so let’s make it a good one! And if you haven’t already RSVP’d for the social club outing to the footy, now’s your chance. Catch Teresa to lock in your ticket. TB
Hello All, It’s May already and we are almost half-way through the year! Greetings from Perth and while I normally try and avoid mentioning the weather, it’s been a cracking week weather wise over here. Across the branches, it’s encouraging to see a fair bit of PNG work coming through PM with both the Welding and Engine Shops operating at full capacity in recent weeks. Mackay continues to lead the way on sales performance (thank you MK), alongside Gunnedah, with both branches tracking above budget. Hunter Valley has experienced a slower period, though momentum is beginning to build with machine rebuilds entering the Workshop, supported by a highly engaged Sales Team. Perth has maintained a steady workflow overall, although there remains an opportunity to lift component sales, with the team actively focused on driving improvement. Generally, things are still patchy and there is a lot of anecdotal talk about some of the larger mining operators holding back on expenditure which is impacting activity levels. While we are currently tracking at a similar sales level to last year and whilst we are below our target, it is worth noting that we are holding steady, unlike some of our competitors and the OEM dealers. On a more positive note, we’ve got a large Whitehaven (East Coast) tender being worked on and are awaiting the outcome of the MRL component tender in the West. I met with Emeco’s CEO on Tuesday, and we are pressing hard for more business opportunities with them. We are doing well with Emeco in Gunnedah, with clear potential to expand in QLD and WA. Anthony Corcoran and I have another high-level meeting with Thiess later in the month and whilst we’ve been talking about Thiess and other opportunities, progress with large organisations can take time, but we remain persistent and focused. Looking ahead, hopefully the Middle East saga will be resolved soon, allowing conditions to stabilise. Mining remains a cyclical sector and when the market rebounds, we are well positioned to respond and capture growth opportunities. All branches should be having their voluntary and company sponsored flu jabs for those that want to take it up. Hands and eyes remain the areas of most frequent injury in our workplace so please also utilise appropriate PPE. We have some marketing events occurring in May with the NRL Magic Round in Brisbane, the Eels V the Knights in Newcastle and a golf day in Wauchope. We’ve also got some careers days in Port Macquarie, Taree and Newcastle promoting 2027 apprenticeships for both PM and HV Branches. Thank you to those staff achieving milestones in May including Jason Brown 15 years (PM), Daniel Orr 5 years (HV), Joel Olguera 5 years (HV) and other significant milestones Kevin Eames 21 years (PM) and Stan Mumford 18 years (PM). A big thank you and all the best for retirement Garry Hollingsworth who is finishing up tomorrow after almost thirty years! Thanks Garry for all your hard work. Also to Rod Hall who is on extended leave for health reasons after 12 years’ service. Look after yourself Rod and wishing you all the best at this time. PERTH Gidday from WA! Enquiries slowed in April however with our previous quarters influx of return cores and customer repairs, we are busy. May is shaping up with a solid list of forward orders providing a great head start. Highlights for the month include, our first Customer 789D Engine rebuild plus Hitachi repairs and sales are growing. Customer cylinder rebuilds and AM cylinder sales have been going well. George Muzawazi moves to support our Projects Team (seen in photo with Zaylie during a recent visit from Albina Boin) and last month we welcomed Prashu Ganesh to Warehouse and Jennifer Wong to Purchasing. Finishing off we throw our thoughts and wishes out to Karen Rich as she continues her battle with cancer. PA
