THRIFTED Be Fashionable and Frugal This Spring!
You shouldn't have to sacrifice your finances to be fashionable! So with that in mind I solicited the help of stylist Charlie Hill-Henderson and we journeyed to the local Goodwill with the goal of finding some hot spring looks. For just under $40 we were able to put together a total of six looks. Check out the looks and our thri ting tips! 1. Be patient: Most thri t stores are large and have a lot of inventory. It takes time to wade through and find items that you love. 2. Have a goal: It will make your life much easier if you go with a goal in mind. Our goal was to find spring dresses and separates. 3. Try it on: You may not be able to get a refund so make sure you try everything on at the store. 4. Inspect it: These items are second hand, be sure to inspect each garment and ensure they are in good condition. 5. Have fun! Listen, shopping is fun and saving money is even more fun so go out and enjoy yourself. 8

“Building Your Network Author: Brandi Phillips Networking is a crucial part in marketing yourself or your brand. Whether you are a model, designer or entrepreneur; building a strong network can be critical to your success. Networking is a process that takes time, selfconfidence, and preparation. And don't worry, it gets a little easier with practice! Here are some tips I've learned along the way. First things first, proper preparation prevents poor performance. To prepare yourself, start with a goal. What do you wish to accomplish? Who would you like to meet, what type of opportunities are you looking for? Write down your goals and aspirations. Do your research. You should be knowledgeable about the industry you are interested in and the people within the industry. Make sure you are search-able! Do you have a website? What about social media? You can create social media accounts on outlets that most people utilize. Social media is a virtual way to engage with people, stay up-to-date on everything from trends to breaking news, catch up with friends and family, and of course, build your network. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest and even Tumblr are popular social media sites. We are living a digital era, and it is important to establish a digital presence. Each of these social media sites can be used as an online portfolio. Therefore, it is wise to conduct yourself in a professional manner. Next, create business cards or comp cards. Personally, I like a thick stock card, and even a glossy coat to dazzle it up a bit. The cards should include vital information such as: your name, your brand name (if you have one), your occupation, a professional picture, social media outlets, e-mail address, contact phone number (if
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AA
16
you are comfortable releasing this information), and a website, if any. If you are a model, don't forget to include your measurements and agency if you have one. Networking is about leaving your comfort zone and establishing relationships. It's about meeting people and exchanging talents. Always remain positive and contact interested people via social media or e-mail. Believe me, even living in a small city presents a lot of networking opportunities. Does your city have luncheons open to the public? Are there any community service events held weekly or monthly? Who is your target audience? What do you want people to know about your brand? Ask yourself, are there any concerts, shows, vending opportunities, or other ways I can shake hands and meet people? If there are, then go for it. You are the walking billboard for your brand. You must promote yourself. If you are consistent in your efforts then in due time, people will endorse your brand for you. Remember, always put your best foot forward, smile, and leave a memorable impression. Remain positive. If you receive business cards from other people, follow up! If you are interested in working with someone in particular, don't be afraid to approach them. Consistency, persistence, and faith the size of a mustard seed are key components.

LOVE & FASHION
Charlie Hill-Henderson & Christopher Henderson By Belinda Vickerson
If you've been to Fashion Week in Albany then you've probably seen these two. Diligently working behind the scenes to ensure the shows success and flawless execution. They are Christopher and Charlie Hill-Henderson. She is Charlie Hill-Henderson. Pittsburgh native and ASU alum, Charlie is a fashion designer, stylist, model coach and CEO of South Georgia Fashion Week. He is Christopher Henderson; south Georgia born and raised, ASU alum turned ASU Football assistant coach and aquatics instructor. And together, they run Chuck B. Moore, LLC. a fashion production company based in Albany. 54
Their story began in college, but they didn't start dating until much later in 2013. Now, the two are married and getting ready to celebrate their first anniversary. Charlie describes their union as "Unlike anything else, no other relationship could compare to how I feel with him. He is my muse." They are truly loving, living and working together. Chris is not only her muse but her biggest motivator. When they began dating, she wasn't even designing, having become frustrated with a lack of progress. But when Chris saw her custom design and
sew a swimsuit for a friend of theirs, he knew that fashion was her true passion and calling. He was the one that posted the design to facebook, creating the spark that would lead to hundreds of designs and custom orders. Now Charlie has her own budding fashion empire with Chuck B. Moore and she is CEO of South Georgia Fashion Week, an annual fashion showcase for south Georgians. They run the businesses together, with Charlie as the face and Chris working behind the scenes, constantly encouraging her and making sure the operation runs efficiently. As an added bonus, he's found some fashion skills himself; like picking out fabric, knowing how much fabric will be needed for projects and even helping to create custom menswear designs. It's not always easy, they sometimes disagree as couples do. Chris is protective and makes sure that Charlie is surrounded by the right people and always recognizes her own value. The future for these two is very bright. They dream of seeing Charlie's designs in major retailers and producing fashion shows for top brands and designers. For now, they are working on creating a fashion curriculum for the local school system, a fashion summer camp for kids, building South Georgia Fashion Week and creating cultural events for Southwest Georgia. They've committed not only to each other, but to their community as well and together they will leave a legacy of creativity, sacrifice and success.

MODELING 101

Preparing For A Photo Shoot
Just about every model I shoot with will ask the same question, "what do I need to bring?" It's a very important question if you want to show up prepared and have a successful shoot. So I thought I would take this time to talk about some of the things you need to do to prepare for a photo shoot. 1. Get directions to the studio or location! Make sure you get an address and directions if needed. You don't want to get lost and show up late! 2. Bring your model bag. If you don't know what a model is or what goes in it, click check out the article from Studio 95 Photographix. 3. Shave! Research the best way to remove body and facial hair, it's different for everyone. You might want to choose shaving, waxing, depilatory
creams or laser treatments depending on your skin and hair type. 4.Bring your compcards or headshots. A photo shoot is a great chance to network with other industry professionals! 5. Speak with the photographer or person organizing the shoot about the theme. Take some time before the shoot to research that particular theme and some of the emotions and poses that might work. Finally, bring your "A" game! Keep a positive attitude and be professional at all times.
