Editor's Note Thank you for joining us on the launch of our first issue! I am so appreciative of the support and encouragement I've received on the journey to see this project to fruition. Exposure The Magazine was an idea born out of necessity. For many, living in South Georgia or any rural area, means being unable to live or fulfill your dreams. I've met so many talented and hard working creatives during my time here! I wanted to build a platform for them and myself where we can create, publish and market our work to a larger audience. Exposure The Magazine is a quarterly magazine, published digitally and available to purchase in print. Focused on all things fashion and beauty, we can use this platform to support and promote local creatives and entrepreneurs like photographers, designers, stylists, hair salons, makeup artists and local businesses. It is so important to support our local businesses and talent! I hope that you will support Exposure by being a faithful reader, sharing this magazine with your friends and family and giving us your feedback. SOUTH GEORGIA FASHION WEEK THE NEW FASHION MECCA
Models Victasha Lewis-Jackson, the new face of South Georgia Fashion Week and Marlissa Clark, the outgoing face of Albany Fashion Week.
Albany Georgia has never been known as a fashion mecca, but that is changing thanks to local creatives like Charlie Hill-Henderson. The Pittsburgh native and ASU alum is a talented fashion designer and model coach. In 2012, with two business associates, Charlie co-founded Albany Fashion Week. AFW was an annual fashion expo featuring local designers, clothing stores and models. In 2015, after one of their most successful years, Charlie decided to change direction and start expanding her brand outside of Albany. South Georgia Fashion Week was created to provide a platform for all fashion creatives throughout south Georgia. SGFW has already made it's mark this year with the wildly successful, Winter Couture: A Taste Of Style fashion show. The show featured a combination of high fashion and fine cuisine, treating the audience to a show rarely seen in Albany. And there is more on the way! Charlie's goal is to bring more people together for a common goal, to help young creatives realize their dreams. To build a platform by which designers and models have an avenue to gain experience in the fashion industry, build confidence and network with other professionals. MODELING 101 From The Photographer's Perspective by Belinda Vickerson
I am constantly getting messages from young men and women with the same question, "How do I get into modeling". Even though I've only been shooting fashion for just over a year, I've learned a tremendous amount about the industry through people that I've worked with and my own research. Here a a few tips that I hope can help get you started. 1. Do your research! I can't stress this enough! Did you know there are different types of modeling? Do you know what you want to do or where you would fit in? Before you start contacting people, do a little research so you are knowledgeable about the industry and can ask intelligent questions. You may not have the right body type for runway, maybe print or commercial would be a better option for you. There is so much information available online, all you have to do to get started is a simple google search. 2. Get ready to work! I see people all the time treating modeling like a hobby. It's a job and if you want to be successful, it better be a full time effort. You need to be ready to network, market yourself, travel and invest in your career. It is not easy, nor is it as glamorous as it looks on the "gram"! Show up on time, ready to work and be prepared. You never know when your opportunity is going to come, you won't have to get ready if you stay ready! 3. Check your attitude! This is my biggest pet peeve, the model with the horrible attitude! You will not always love what someone does with your hair, what the stylists wants you to wear, your makeup or the shoot theme. Suck it up, you're there to do a job, not approve of all the style choices! It is so important to project a professional appearance and attitude at all times. Don't be the model no one wants to work with. 4. Reach out to agencies. There are many types of modeling agencies and management companies. Once you know what type of modeling you're interested in, find an agency that specializes in that area and find out how to apply. The information in usually on their website, just make sure you DO YOUR RESEARCH. It's important to find a reputable agency with working models that is going to represent you well and help you find paying gigs. 5. Build a body of work and expand your network. Use social media and modeling sites to find other industry professionals to work with. Get to know the photographers, stylists, designers and hair and makeup professionals in your area. Though it began as a bathing suit and exotic dance wear line, her creativity and vision eventually blossomed into what is now a full clothing line. "It's My Turn Now!" Meet Victasha Lewis-Jackson, the new face of South Georgia Fashion Week and Exposure's first covergirl! I met Miss Vic last year while working with AFW and it has been my pleasure to watch the Albany native grow and inspire others through her work.

MEET THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH GEORGIA FASHION WEEK Where did you go to school? I attended the best school in all of Dougherty County and the United States of America (our principal always started our morning announcements off like that!), Monroe Comprehensive High School. Home of the Golden Tornadoes! I also attended Valdosta State University for my degree. What is your degree in? I received a Bachelors of Science in Nursing Degree from Valdosta State University. College was nothing short of amazing, I pledged the greatest sorority on earth, which is Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I also hold three certifications which my job requires. How long have you been modeling? I have been modeling consistently for a year. I tried when I was in high school with my hairstylist at that time, Sheldon Horton's group. I did one show in Americus and that was it. Sheldon would always tell me he wanted me to go to America's Next Top Model. But I had to go to school! Then seven years later I was having a deep conversation with one of my sorority sisters about living out your dreams and not just settling. I felt like all of a sudden I had an epiphany and all my feelings for modeling hit me and a door that had once been closed temporarily, cracked open and said "it's my turn now!" What attracts you to a modeling career? I feel modeling gives you a chance to express yourself in so many different ways. You can be transformed into so many various roles and play dress up! When I model I completely get out of my element, it is like an alter ego. I love to assist others in achieving their dreams of promoting their product whether it's clothing, make up, hair. Have you ever had an itch that would never go away? That is the effect modeling has on me. When it becomes something you think and pray about every single day you know it's something you have to go after!
What has been your favorite modeling experience so far? My Favorite modeling experience is when I was picked to be the face of SGFW. That night I had no idea but was completely honored that Charlie (my modeling mentor) recognized my potential and allowed me to represent a rising brand for South Georgia models, designers, make up artists, photographers, cosmetologists and the list goes on. So being announced as the new face of SGFW with all my family and friends there has been the best experience and my favorite experience thus far. It's definitely an honor! What is your biggest modeling accomplishment so far? So far I would say being picked as the face of the cover for Exposure The Magazine of course! Being on the cover of a magazine is every model's dream and this was definitely a start for my career. This is the first digital magazine that I have ever heard of to represent South GA and to be on the first official cover is mind blowing! What do you hope to accomplish through modeling? I always tell myself I want to be successful but not famous. I see myself traveling the world, working with those who are well known, gracing the cover of a well known magazine, and being a Victoria's Secret Angel at least once. However, through it all it is my life long goal to remain humble and keep God first. Because without him there is no me. Nothing on is earth is permanent meaning I would rather be grateful than boastful. I want to be a role model and inspire other young girls that come from a small city like me where there is little to no opportunity. Where you are from does not determine where you will go. Never use "I'm from a small city" as a way to handicap you from your dream. "Faith without work is dead" and "Trust in The Lord with all your heart, and lean not to thy own understanding . In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths." Those 2 scriptures are my favorite and I live by those daily!

Look 1: Natural & Subtle Tips: The key to achieving this look is given to the old adage that less is more. Neutral tones that are no more than 3 shades darker than your natural complexion will help you accomplish subtlety. To complete your look, a neutral matte lip color or gloss will go far. Do not forget your eye liner. Look 2: Evening Glamour with a Pop of Color Tips: For the lady heading out for the evening, darker browns and shades of black and grey are fabulous! The key to a nice dramatic smokey eye is blending, but not too much. For a smokey eye, begin by identifying your brow bone and lightly add your darkest shadow with a shadow brush in a left to right direction. On the outer corner of your eye, it should resemble a faint V-shape laying on it's side. Continue to blend in a left to right direction until you are satisfied. Add black liner to your bottom lash line and blend with your shadow brush. Liquid eyeliner and mascara or false lashes will add more drama and your favorite lipstick in a bright red or even neutral tone will pop against your smokey eye. Look 3: Mardi Gras Inspired Tip: To achieve this look, apply complimentary colors in bright and vibrant shades; darkest goes on your brown bone, lightest goes on the inner corners of your eyes. The first key to this look is your liquid eyeliner! It adds the definition, contour, and completion you need. Mascara or false lashes will help as well. The second key is balancing with a neutral lip color; there's nothing worse than a competing eye and lip! Don't forget to blend your colors into one another but not too much. Don't we all want that "model glow" for our skin? Check out these skin care tips from Kawambee D, a local skin care professional and makeup artist. Three essential steps to basic skincare: 1. Cleanse with a gentle liquid facial soap (choose a cleanser based on your skin type) for oily skin, dry skin, or combination skin. *avoid the eye area (this area should be cleansed with water only) *rinse with lukewarm water 2. Exfoliate! This step removes dead skin cells which are not soluble in soap and water. I highly recommend Clinique's Clarifying Lotion. 3. Moisturize: Moisturizing helps to hydrate the skin! Some moisturizers include a sunscreen of at least SPF 15, which is very important to prevent sun damage. How to protect and prepare your skin for makeup: After your essential skincare routine is done, now it's time to prep for foundation. The most important step before painting is Priming! Foundation Primer: A foundation primer preps the canvas by filling in lines and smooths pores while keeping the makeup looking fresh all day. Now, for bedtime! First, remover all makeup with your favorite makeup remover. Second, cleanse and exfoliate (gently). Next, use a nighttime serum or facial cream. I recommend Clinique's Youth Surge Night. Finally.....Moisturize. 28
