Es un honor para mí, como alcalde de Madrid, dar la bienvenida a una nueva edición del Concurso Internacional de Salto del Longines Global Champions Tour, un evento que sitúa a nuestra ciudad entre las grandes capitales del deporte ecuestre mundial. Madrid será la primera sede europea de este circuito, considerado la Fórmula 1 de la hípica, que reúne a 16 ciudades destacadas en todo el planeta. Tras la prueba de Shanghai, del 1 al 4 de mayo, y antes de la siguiente parada en Cannes, del 5 al 7 de junio, el Club de Campo Villa de Madrid acogerá del 16 al 18 de mayo a los mejores jinetes y caballos del mundo. Con 114 ediciones, este concurso es la competición deportiva más antigua de la capital, un hito que refleja su importancia y arraigo. La emblemática Pista Verde del Club de Campo será el escenario donde se disputará una prueba que, como todos los años, estará llena de emoción y que repartirá un millón de euros en premios, atrayendo la atención de aficionados y expertos en un hito insustituible de nuestro calendario deportivo. El Longines Global Champions Tour no solo destaca por su nivel competitivo, sino también por su capacidad de proyectar a Madrid como un referente del deporte internacional. LONGINES GLOBAL CHAMPIONS TOUR 2025

It is an honor for me, as Mayor of Madrid, to welcome a new edition of the Longines Global Champions Tour International Show Jumping Competition, an event that places our city among the world’s great capitals of equestrian sport. Madrid will be the first European city of this circuit, often referred to as the Formula 1, which brings together 16 prominent cities around the world. Following the event in Shanghai from May 1 to 4 and before the next stop in Cannes , from June 5 to 7, the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host the world’s best riders and horses from May 16 to 18. With 114 editions, this competition is the oldest sporting event in the capital, a milestone that reflects its significance and deep conection to the city. The iconic Green Arena of the Club de Campo will host a competition that, as every year, will be full of excitement and will award one million euros in prize money, attracting the attention of both fans and experts. The Longines Global Champions Tour stands out not only for its high level of competition but also for its ability to position Madrid as a global sports reference. I warmly invite everyone, Madrid residents and visitors from across Spain and abroad the world, to enjoy this unique event and take the opportunity to discover all that Madrid has to offer: lively streets, world-renowned gastronomy, and an extraordinary cultural heritage. El año 2025 es en el que las magníficas instalaciones del Club de Campo Villa de Madrid acogen la CXIV edición del Concurso Internacional de Saltos de Madrid.

The year 2025 is the year in which the magnificent facilities of the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host the CXIV edition of the Madrid International Show Jumping Competition.

Madrid sigue siendo una de las ciudades europeas con mayor número de acontecimientos internacionales deportivos de primer nivel Nuevamente y, cómo no también en el deporte ecuestre. Esta histórica cita es un evento ecuestre de referencia en el ámbito nacional e internacional, contando con los mejores caballos y jinetes de todo el mundo.

Madrid continues to be one of the European cities with the highest number of international sporting events of the highest level, again and of course also in equestrian sport. This historic event is an equestrian event of national and international reference, with the best horses and riders from all over the world.

En su seno se celebrarán las pruebas del Longines Global Champions Tour, que llega a Europa por Madrid, que su primera sede europea. Además, el habitual amplio programa de competición contará con la celebración de la Copa del Rey de Saltos, cuyo palmarés está repleto de triunfos de los mejores jinetes del mundo. En nombre de nuestra federación y de todo el deporte ecuestre en España quiero dar la bienvenida a todos los participantes, todos sus acompañantes y a todos los aficionados al caballo que volverán a llenar las tribunas de la pista verde del Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. It will host the Longines Global Champions Tour, which arrives in Europe through Madrid, its first European venue. In addition, the usual extensive competition program will include the celebration of the Copa del Rey de Saltos, whose list of winners is full of triumphs of the best riders in the world. Un año más, la emblemática Pista Verde del Club de Campo Villa de Madrid acoge el Concurso de Saltos Internacional 5*, la competición hípica más esperada de cuantas se celebran en nuestras instalaciones a lo largo del año. Este certamen, el evento deportivo internacional más antiguo de la ciudad de Madrid, celebra en esta edición su 114º aniversario, consolidado como una cita imprescindible en el calendario ecuestre, y contará con la participación de los jinetes y amazonas más destacados del panorama mundial. Desde hace trece años, este prestigioso concurso forma parte del circuito hípico de mayor relevancia a nivel internacional, el Longines Global Champions Tour, que recorre anualmente dieciséis ciudades de tres continentes. Una vez más, la ciudad de Madrid y el Club de Campo Villa de Madrid tienen el honor de ser la sede española de este circuito de élite. Y en 2025, dos de las pruebas más representativas del evento seguirán siendo la Copa de S.M. el Rey y el Gran Premio de Madrid. Once again, the Green Grass of the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid will host the 5* International Show Jumping Competition, the most awaited equestrian competition of all those held at our facilities throughout the year. This competition, the oldest international sporting event in the city of Madrid, celebrates in this edition its 114th anniversary, consolidated as an essential date in the equestrian calendar, and will count with the participation of the most outstanding riders of the world scene. For thirteen years, this prestigious competition has been part of the most important international equestrian circuit, the Longines Global Champions Tour, which annually tours sixteen cities on three continents. Once again, the city of Madrid and the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid have the honor of being the Spanish venue for this elite circuit. And in 2025, two of the most representative races of the event will continue to be the Copa de S.M. el Rey and the Grand Prix of Madrid. I would like to express my most sincere gratitude for the close collaboration between sponsors and organization, as well as for the strong support of the institutions, whose commitment has been essential to place this competition as an international benchmark. Each year there is an incredible atmosphere as thousands of visitors throng to the show to enjoy world class show jumping and our lively shopping village and entertainment. It is a perfect family occasion and it is always great to see the Spanish crowd cheer on their local heroes. We are proud to stage multiple events on our circuit in the world’s great capital cities including Madrid and this first leg of the LGCT in Europe is always a time of immense excitement. I would like to extend my thanks to our Title Partner and Official Timekeeper Longines for their long-term commitment and passion for our sport. The Madrid International Show Jumping Competition celebrates its 114th edition, being part of the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour for another year.

En esta edición del Circuito se incorporan como nueva sede las ciudad de Viena y se retoma la sede de Nueva York, lo que nos da una idea del enorme interés que despierta el mundo hípico.

In this edition of the Tour, the city of Vienna is incorporated as a new venue and the New York venue is retaken, which gives us an idea of the enormous interest that the equestrian world raises.

Es destacable el hecho de que tres jinetes españoles participaran en la Liga de Equipos con especial presencia de dos de ellos en el equipo de Madrid in Motion: uno de ellos Eduardo Álvarez Aznar y su caballo Rokfeller de Pleville, protagonizaran uno de los momentos de mayor emotividad con la retirada de Roki en la pista en la que ha labrado momentos extraordinarios que han hecho vibrar al entendido público que siempre llena estas magnificas instalaciones. Ya solo me queda reiterar el compromiso de Oxer como coorganizador de tan prestigioso evento en alcanzar las mayores cotas de excelencia en la línea marcada por la historia, y desear la mayor de la suerte a todos los participantes que nos honran con su presencia. It is remarkable the fact that three Spanish riders participated in the Team League with special presence of two of them in the Madrid in Motion team: one of them Eduardo Álvarez Aznar and his horse Rokfeller de Pleville, starred in one of the most emotional moments with the retirement of Roki in the grass arena in which he has carved extraordinary moments that have made vibrate the enthusiastic public that always fills these magnificent facilities. It only remains for me to reiterate Oxer’s commitment as co-organiser of such a prestigious event to reach the highest levels of excellence in the line marked by history, and to wish the best of luck to all the participants who honour us with their presence. With a perfect blend of sporty elegance and robustness, this collection embodies Longines’ commitment to creating timepieces for every aspect of life. Elegance isn’t reserved for special occasions. The ultimate every day watch, Conquest says it loud and clear. An evocation of daring and of creative spirit, the collection was the first Longines watch line to have its name protected, in 1954, by the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI). Over time, the Conquest line has evolved in terms of design and technology, while remaining true to its original spirit, a blend of boldness, timelessness and sporty elegance. This chronograph is driven by an exclusive Longines self-winding mechanical movement equipped with a silicon balance-spring and new components made of non-magnetic material. Presented in a 42 mm steel case water-resistant up to 10 bar (100 m), it features a snailed champagne sunray dial with rhodium-plated hands, applied rhodium-plated hour markers and Super-LumiNova® treatment at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock. Horses and riders are tested to their limits on intricate courses, in diverse arenas, and under the pressure of intense competition. The tour brings together the world’s best riders across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and the Middle East, beginning in Doha and travelling to iconic venues such as Mexico City, Monaco, Paris, Shanghai and more.

The much-anticipated Longines Global Champions Tour title, won by Max Kühner in 2024, is back up for grabs. Meanwhile, the thrilling pursuit of the coveted Golden Tickets continues, with only 1 available for qualification per event into the prestigious Longines Global Champions Tour Super Grand Prix at the GC Playoffs in November. These tickets are awarded to winners of the LGCT Grand Prix classes at each tour stop. At every event, the LGCT Grand Prix takes centre stage, featuring challenging 1.60m courses. Riders must carefully select horses best suited for each unique location. Only the top 40 combinations qualify for the LGCT Grand Prix through a 5* class, with valuable ranking points and prize money on the line. En su cuarto año como piloto sub-25 de Madrid In Motion, Jack Whitaker se ha convertido en uno de los jóvenes más fiables del circuito de la GCL. En 2024, contribuyó con varias rondas limpias importantes, ayudando a asegurar los cinco primeros puestos del equipo. El Club de Campo Villa de Madrid va a ser el escenario del último recorrido en competición internacional de un caballo de leyenda. A los 20 años, Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot se despide de las pistas poniendo el punto final a una dilatada y exitosa trayectoria deportiva en la que ha puesto de manifiesto su calidad, su honradez y una longevidad en el más alto nivel al alcance de unos poquísimos elegidos.

MARCADO POR UNA FECHA

Rokfeller de Pleville nació en Francia un 14 de julio de 2005, Fiesta Nacional, exactamente 216 años después de la Toma de la Bastilla. Que iba a ser un luchador estaba escrito desde el mismo día en que vino al mundo y que tenía carácter combativo quedó claro desde que se le puso la primera montura. Su criadora, Vallérie Allix, había decidido cruzar a la pequeña y clasuda L’Elue du Rozel (Apache d’Adriers) con un semental que diera buen físico así que, tras un intento fallido con Diamant de Semilly, probó con el poderoso L’Arc de Triomphe. Gracias a aquel encuentro acabaría viniendo al mundo en la yeguada de Pleville, en Normandía, un guapo y prometedor potro que acabaría siendo aprobado como semental Selle Francais y a cuyo nombre inicial acabaría incorporándose el apellido Bois Margot.

UN POTRO POCO COMERCIAL

Rokfeller completó su proceso formativo en Francia con varios jinetes de buen nivel e incluso llegó a competir en doma con Karine Lorrain. Con 7 años, Jacques Couperie conoció al caballo y le

vio un enorme potencial siempre y cuando cayera en las manos adecuadas ya que no era fácil. Por eso, decidió ofrecérselo a Luis Álvarez Cervera para que lo probara su hijo Eduardo. Y así fue. “Me gustó mucho cómo saltaba –recuerda Luis-, me impactó la forma que tenía de salir del suelo, pero estaba verde y tenía carácter, había sido castrado el año anterior y todavía se comportaba como un entero. Aunque las pruebas clínicas eran muy buenas, no pasaba el examen radiológico así que, aunque nos gustó, no nos terminamos de decidir”. El caballo había sido comprado previamente por una amazona amateur que montaba en la cuadra de Couperie pero terminó compitiendo con la hija de éste, Charlotte, ya que era complicado de manejar. Según Jacques, “Rokfeller tenía problemas de doma y no era espectacular saltando, pero, aunque las pruebas radiológicas no eran MADRID 114 CSI 5*1*

“Es muy noble y tranquilo, le encanta viajar y competir, y si le tratas con respeto y cuidado siempre te lo va a dar todo. La conexión que he tenido con él no la he tenido con ningún otro caballo”.

buenas, era fuerte físicamente y siempre lo hacía bien. Estaba convencido de que tenía un gran potencial y no tenía ningún problema de salud así que insistí mucho para que volvieran a probarlo y le saltaran más grande. Sabía que con Edu podía dar lo mejor de sí”. ¡Bingo! A la segunda fue la vencida y el hijo de L’Arc de Triomphe acabó viajando a España después de que nadie en Francia supiera ver sus posibilidades. Muy pocos son profetas en su tierra y menos si tus grandes virtudes no son de las que saltan a la vista. Que un potro no sea comercial no quiere decir que no sea bueno. Incluso muy bueno: “Viéndole en pista parecía un caballo normal más–dice Couperie-, pero no lo era. Siempre saltaba lo justo, no era demostrativo, pero la calidad siempre ha estado ahí”.

del Mundo de Zurich, el Gran Premio Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) de Rabat, el del CSIO de Madrid y otro en Oliva, fue clave en la clasificación para los Juegos de Río y en la victoria del equipo Madrid in Motion en la final de la Global Champions League de Praga en 2018, y participó en 12 Copas de Naciones con España (además de 3 finales en Barcelona) con un total de 15 recorridos sin derribos y aportando siempre al menos un cero. Son los números y resultados de un caballo excepcional que, como los buenos vinos, ha ido madurando y mejorando con la edad pese a varios contratiempos que estuvieron a punto de adelantar el final de su carrera deportiva.

ADAPTACIÓN A FUEGO LENTO

Abril de 2021. Roki se lesiona y tiene que dejar la competición durante un largo periodo, concretamente 11 meses. Su regreso se produce en marzo de 2022 y solo 2 meses y medio después conseguía ganar el Gran Premio del CSIO de Madrid en el Club de Campo, donde había rozado la gloria previamente al ser 2º y 3º en 2 ediciones del LGCT. La alegría, sin embargo, duró poco. Tras ser 2º en el CSI 3* de la Yeguada Finca Maeza, el caballo sufrió otra lesión que, ya con 17 años, habría retirado a cualquier otro… pero no a él. Un francés nacido un 14 de julio no tira la toalla a la primera…ni a la segunda. Y 14 meses después, ahí estaba el guerrero y combativo Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot volviendo a competir para iniciar una nueva y última etapa que va a concluir este mes de mayo en Madrid con unos resultados inimaginables. Sus números de 2024 son los mejores de su carrera deportiva y hablan por sí solos: de los 7 grandes premios LGCT que disputó, en 6 hizo cero clasificándose para el desempate y acabando en el Top Ten, ganó en el de Rabat, sumó 3 podios y terminó siendo 6º en el Super Gran Premio de Riad con 1 derribo en 2 mangas. Eso significa un 77’7 de recorridos sin falta, un 87’5% en el Top Ten y 0,8 puntos de media por recorrido, porcentajes inalcanzables para prácticamente cualquier caballo de alto nivel y más aún ¡con 19 años! Según Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, “ha saltado las pruebas más grandes sin hacer enormes esfuerzos, sabe administrarse, aunque, a veces, esa forma de saltar te haga sufrir. Y gracias a eso y a su corazón y mentalidad ha conseguido volver y lograr esos resultados a su edad”.

Había mucho trabajo por delante y Eduardo Álvarez Aznar se puso manos a la obra. Una primera competición nacional en Segovia acabando 8º en un gran premio a 1’35 y primer concurso internacional en Lisboa seguido de otros en Portugal y Francia. Algunos buenos recorridos…y otros no tanto. La adaptación no fue sencilla ni rápida, pero, conforme se fueron conociendo, la relación comenzó a funcionar. Según su jinete, “Roki siempre ha sido un poco especial. En casa es muy tranquilo, incluso un poco vago, pero en concursos cambia y se puede tensar con facilidad. Además, tiene una forma de saltar muy especial, le gusta tomarse su tiempo y saltar despacio, no puedes presionarle y hay que ser frío en la batida, tres trancos antes del obstáculo hay que sentarse y esperar”. Adaptarse a todo eso lleva su tiempo, pero, poco a poco, las piezas empezaron a encajar y los resultados comenzaron a llegar.

UNA EXITOSA CARRERA DEPORTIVA

2014 fue el año en que quedó claro que Roki era un caballo de alto nivel. Debut en Copa de Naciones en Lummen con doble cero, 4 y 0 en las de La Baule y Falsterbo…y al Campeonato del Mundo. De ahí a la final Furusiyya de Barcelona y el broche con un 4º puesto en el Gran Premio indoor de Casas Novas. ¡Y todo eso con solo 9 años! A partir de ahí, un no parar con participaciones en 2 Juegos Olímpicos, 2 Campeonatos del Mundo, 3 Campeonatos de Europa y 2 finales de la Copa del Mundo en las que acabó 6º (2018) y 8º (2019) tras llegar en este último caso como líder a la última jornada. UN COLOFÓN ÉPICO

de la dedicación de un equipo que ha trabajado junto a él a lo largo de los años para que pudiera mostrar lo mejor de sí mismo. Y en ese equipo, además de veterinarios y herrador, han estado 2 mujeres que le conocen y le quieren como nadie. Terri Fitton fue su moza y estableció con él una conexión muy especial. Para ella no era Roki sino Fatty porque, según declaró a World of Showjumping, cuando le conoció “era un pequeño pony muy redondo, aunque acabaría adelgazando. Es uno de los caballos más fáciles a los que he tratado, muy tranquilo y reservado. No necesitaba a las personas, pero le gustaba tenerme cerca. Su mayor virtud es su corazón. Verle saltar me ponía muy nerviosa porque “serpenteaba” sobre los obstáculos, pero nos dio muchas alegrías”. Después de Terri llegó Asia Olszewska, que siempre ha destacado de él su espíritu combativo: “Es un luchador, siempre sale a ganar y a hacerlo bien. Es increíble cómo se conserva a su edad. Es tranquilo, sí, pero tiene su carácter, si algo le altera se puede 36

transformar en unos segundos y eso me gusta porque demuestra personalidad”. Eduardo Álvarez Aznar conoce bien esa doble cara y sabe cómo tratarla y manejarla: “Es muy noble y tranquilo, le encanta viajar y competir, y si le tratas con respeto y cuidado siempre te lo va a dar todo. La conexión que he tenido con él no la he tenido con ningún otro caballo”. Una conexión que se ha extendido durante 12 intensos años de muchos éxitos, pero también de algunos sinsabores y contratiempos a los que Roki ha sabido sobreponerse con ese espíritu combativo y luchador que siempre le ha definido. Hay fechas que imprimen carácter y el suyo estaba escrito desde el día de su nacimiento. Decía Terri Fitton que “compitiendo disfrutaba tanto como cuando se revolcaba en los prados”. Y ahora es cuando le toca disfrutar en el campo tanto como ha disfrutado en las pistas. ¡Te lo has ganado, Roki!

Rokfeller de Pleville was born in France on 14 July 2005, National Day, exactly 216 years after the storming of the Bastille. It was written from the day he was born that he would be a fighter, and that he had a fighting character, which was clear from the moment he was put in his first saddle. His breeder, Vallérie Allix, had decided to cross the small and classy L’Elue du Rozel (Apache d’Adriers) with a stallion that would give a good physique, so, after a failed attempt with Diamant de Semilly, she tried the powerful L’Arc de Triomphe. Thanks to that encounter, a handsome and promising foal was born at the Pleville stud farm in Normandy, who would eventually be approved as the Selle Francais stallion, and whose initial name would eventually include the surname Bois Margot.

Rokfeller completed his training in France with several good riders and even competed in dressage with Karine Lorrain. At the age of 7, Jacques Couperie got to know the horse and saw enormous potential in him as long as he fell into the right hands, as he was not easy. Therefore, he decided to offer him to Luis Álvarez Cervera for his son Eduardo to try him out. And so he did. I really liked the way he jumped,’ recalls Luis, ‘I was impressed by the way he came off the ground, but he was green and had character, he had been gelded the previous year and was still behaving like a whole stallion. Although the clinical tests were very good, he didn’t pass the radiological examination so, although we liked him, we couldn’t make up our minds”. The horse had previously been bought by an amateur rider who rode at Couperie’s stable but ended up MADRID 114 CSI 5*1*

competing with his daughter, Charlotte, as he was difficult to handle. According to Jacques, “Rokfeller had dressage problems and was not spectacular at jumping, but, although the radiology tests were not good, he was physically strong and always did well. I was convinced that he had great potential and he had no health problems, so I was very insistent that he should be tested again and jumped bigger. I knew that with Edu he could do his best”. Bingo! Second time was the charm and the son of L’Arc de Triomphe ended up travelling to Spain after nobody in France saw his potential. Very few are prophets in their own land and even less so if your great virtues are not those that are obvious. Just because a colt is not commercial does not mean he is not good. Even very good: ‘Looking at him on the track, he looked like just another normal horse,’ says Couperie, “but he was not. He always jumped just enough, he was not demonstrative, but the quality was always there”.

ADAPTATION TO SLOW FIRE

There was a lot of work ahead and Eduardo Álvarez Aznar got down to work. A first national competition in Segovia finishing 8th in a grand prix at 1’35 and a first international competition in Lisbon followed by others in Portugal and France. Some good rides... and others not so good. The adaptation was neither easy nor quick, but, as they got to know each other, the relationship started to work. According to his rider, “Roki has always been a bit special. At home he is very calm, even a bit lazy, but in competitions he changes and can get tense easily. He also has a very special way of jumping, he likes to take his time and jump slowly, you can’t push him and you have to be cold in the jump, three strides before the obstacle you have to sit and wait”. Adapting to all that takes time, but, little by little, the pieces began to fall into place and the results started to come.

A SUCCESSFUL SPORTS CAREER

2014 was the year when it became clear that Roki was a top-level horse. Debut in the Nations Cup in Lummen with a double zero, 4 and 0 in La Baule and Falsterbo...and to the World Championship. From there to the Furusiyya final in Barcelona and the finishing touch with a 4th place in the indoor Grand Prix of Casas Novas, and all that at the age of only 9 years old! From there, it has been non-stop with participations 38

in 2 Olympic Games, 2 World Championships, 3 European Championships and 2 World Cup finals in which he finished 6th (2018) and 8th (2019) after arriving in the latter case as leader on the last day. He has won the Zurich World Cup Grand Prix, the Longines Global Champions Tour (LGCT) Grand Prix of Rabat, the CSIO of Madrid and another in Oliva, he was key in the qualification for the Rio Games and in the victory of the Madrid in Motion team in the in the GCL Super Cup in Prague Playoffs 2018, and participated in 12 Nations Cups with Spain (in addition to 3 finals in Barcelona) with a total of 15 rides without faults and always contributing at least one zero. These are the numbers and results of an exceptional horse that, like fine wines, has been maturing and improving with age despite several setbacks that almost brought forward the end of his sporting career.

AN EPIC FINAL

April 2021. Roki gets injured and has to leave competition for a long period of time, 11 months to be precise. His comeback took place in March 2022 and only 2 and a half months later he managed to win the Grand Prix of the Madrid CSIO at the Club de Campo, where he had previously come close to glory by being 2nd and 3rd in 2 editions of the LGCT. The joy, however, was short-lived. After finishing 2nd in the CSI 3* at Yeguada Finca Maeza, the horse suffered another injury that, at the age of 17, would have retired anyone else... but not him. A french born on the 14th of July doesn’t throw in the towel at the first time... or the second. And 14 months later, there was the warrior and combative Rokfeller de Pleville Bois Margot returning to compete to begin a new and final stage that will conclude this May in Madrid with unimaginable results. His 2024 numbers are the best of his sporting career and speak for themselves: of the 7 LGCT Grand Prix he competed in, he made zero in 6, qualifying for the play-off and finishing in the Top Ten, he won the LGCT Grand Prix of Rabat, added 3 podiums and finished 6th in the LGCT Super Grand Prix with 1 down in 2 rounds. That means 77.7 rounds without faults, 87.5% in the Top Ten and 0.8 points on average per-round, unattainable percentages for practically any toplevel horse, and even more so at the age of 19! According to Eduardo Álvarez Aznar, “he has jumped the biggest classes without making huge efforts, he knows how to manage himself, even if, sometimes, that way of jumping makes you suffer. And thanks to that and to his heart and mentality, he has managed to come back and achieve these results at his age”.

A SPECIAL HORSE

At the age of 20, Rokfeller is retiring from competition. His longevity and success are the result of the dedication of a team that has worked with him over the years so that he could show the best of himself. And on that team, in addition to the vets and farrier, have been two women who know and love him like no other. Terri Fitton was his groom and established a very special connection with him. For her it was not Roki but Fatty because, as she told World of Showjumping, when she met him “he was a very round little pony, although he would eventually get thinner. He is one of the easiest horses I have ever dealt with, very quiet and reserved. He didn’t need people, but he liked to keep me close. His greatest virtue is his heart. Watching him jump made me very nervous because he ‘snaked’ over the obstacles, but he gave us a lot of joy”. After Terri came Asia Olszewska, who has always emphasised his fighting spirit: “He is a fighter, he always goes out to win and to

do well. It’s amazing how he’s preserved at his age. He is calm, yes, but he has his character, if something upsets him he can transform himself in a few seconds and I like that because it shows personality”. Eduardo Álvarez Aznar knows this double side well and knows how to deal with it: “He is very noble and calm, he loves to travel and compete, and if you treat him with respect and care he will always give you everything. The connection I’ve had with him I’ve never had with any other horse”. A connection that has extended over 12 intense years of many successes, but also of some disappointments and setbacks that Roki has been able to overcome with that combative and fighting spirit that has always defined him. There are dates that stamp character and his was written from the day he was born. Terri Fitton used to say that ‘he enjoyed competing as much as when he was rolling in the meadows’. And now it’s his turn to enjoy it in the field as much as he has enjoyed it on the tracks. You’ve earned it, Roki!

“Si no fuese por la Unidad de Apoyo, me hubiera ido del trabajo” Fran lleva trabajando en EULEN Centro Especial de Empleo desde finales de 2022, donde cuenta con el soporte de una Unidad de Apoyo especializada, un equipo multidisciplinar que le acompaña en su proceso de incorporación, así como en su permanencia y desarrollo. Conoce más sobre ambos en la siguiente entrevista. ¿Cuéntanos qué puesto desempeñas y cuáles son tus principales funciones? Soy jardinero y me dedico a recoger papeles, basuras… Voy con un carrito donde llevo mis herramientas. Entré como auxiliar de limpieza y cuando llevaba 8 meses en la empresa, me ascendieron de categoría. ¿Cómo conociste EULEN Centro Especial de Empleo?, ¿por qué lo elegiste? Lo conocí por los portales de empleo, apliqué a una oferta y me llamasteis para que empezase a trabajar. Había oído hablar muy bien de la parte de Sociosanitarios y después la experiencia ha sido muy positiva. ¿Cómo describirías el papel de la Unidad de Apoyo en tu desarrollo profesional? ¿En qué te ha dado soporte? Me ha venido muy bien tener a Sara, la Técnica de la Unidad de Apoyo, que me ayuda en mi día a día. He tenido un gran apoyo emocional por una mala experiencia laboral en mi zona de trabajo anterior, luego me cambiaron y ahora estoy muy cómodo. ¿Cómo ha influido este apoyo en tu desempeño y confianza en el trabajo? Ha mejorado mi forma de pensar, no darle tantas vueltas a todo ni ser tan confiado. Con Sara he trabajado mucho esta parte. Intento mantenerme al margen de los problemas de los demás, porque a veces los hago míos. Sara me ha enseñado a marcar límites y también he contado con el apoyo de un psicólogo fuera del trabajo. 54

Ahora tengo más seguridad en mí mismo, estoy cambiando cosas que antes hacía y ya no.

¿Has recibido formación específica o adaptación en tu puesto gracias a la Unidad de Apoyo? He utilizado el servicio de fisioterapia pero no me ha hecho falta ninguna adaptación física. ¿Qué seguimiento tienes con los profesionales de la Unidad de Apoyo? Una relación muy cercana, hablamos para todo, pero cada vez voy siendo más independiente. Siempre está disponible, le digo que necesito hablar y me llama enseguida. ¿Crees que la Unidad de Apoyo ayuda a mejorar el ambiente laboral en tu trabajo? Sí, por ejemplo hemos tenido una reunión entre varios compañeros para explicar cómo nos sentimos ante una situación del trabajo que nos afectaba. ¿Cómo crees que sería tu experiencia laboral sin el apoyo de esta unidad? Me hubiera ido del trabajo. ¿Qué le dirías a otras personas con discapacidad que estén considerando trabajar en un Centro Especial de Empleo como el de EULEN? Que vinieran a trabajar aquí, hay muy buen compañerismo y se trabaja muy bien. Me levanto con otra idea de ir al trabajo, me apetece estar con mis compañeros, reirnos, juntarnos para comer. Hay muy buen rollo.

“Had it not been for the Support Unit, I would have left my job” Since late 2022, Fran has been employed at EULEN Special Employment Center, where a specialized Support Unit involving a multidisciplinary team assists him with his integration, continuity, and development. Learn more about both of them in the following interview. “Could you tell us about your current position and outline your main duties?” I am a gardener, and I do tasks such as picking up litter, collecting rubbish... I have a trolley where I keep my tools. I started as a cleaning assistant but was promoted after eight months with the company. “How did you learn about EULEN Special Employment Center? Why did you choose it?” I found out about it through job portals, applied for a job with EULEN CEE, and was called up to start work. I was already familiar with Grupo EULEN from the community health side; people had spoken highly of it, and my experience has been very positive. “How would you describe the role of the Support Unit in your professional development? What kind of support have you received?” Working with Sara, the technician from the Support Unit, has been very beneficial for my daily life. I have received a lot of emotional support following a negative experience at my previous job; I was subsequently relocated, but now I feel very comfortable. “How has this support influenced your performance and confidence at work?” It has improved my mindset; I no longer overthink everything, and I am not as trusting at first. I have worked a lot on this with Sara; I’m even becoming dependent on her (laughs). I try to avoid getting involved in other people’s problems because I tend to internalize those issues. Sara has taught me to set boundaries, and I have also received support from a psychologist outside of work.

Plus, I now have more self-confidence, and I’m changing certain behaviors that I used to engage in.

“Have you received specific training or adaptation in your role thanks to the Support Unit?” I have used the physiotherapy service, but I haven’t needed any physical adaptations. “What kind of follow-up do you have with the professionals from the Support Unit?” A very close relationship; we talk about everything, but I am becoming more independent. They are always available; if I tell them I need to talk, they call me right away. “Do you think the Support Unit helps improve the work environment?” Yes, for instance, we had a meeting with several colleagues to discuss our feelings about a work situation that affected us. “What do you think your work experience would be like without the support of this unit?” I would have left my job. “What would you say to other people with disabilities who are considering working in a Special Employment Center like EULEN?” That they should work here; we all get along very well, and the work environment is very positive. I now wake up with a different mindset regarding going to work; I look forward to spending time with my workmates, laughing, and having lunch together. There’s a great mood here.
