Recognizing “Everyday Heroes” in our Community
In times of crisis, the American Red Cross is fortunate to witness the best of humanity.
Emergencies haven’t stopped during COVID-19, and people in our community have stepped up in all kinds of ways to help our neighbors. On the Space Coast, while we were spared the direct impact of a catastrophic event in 2020, local Red Cross volunteers traveled thousands of miles to help others and were here to help our neighbors recover from everyday disasters like home fires, including four major multi-unit family fires in Brevard County.
During the month of March — declared Red Cross Month by U.S. presidents for nearly 80 years — we honor the people in our community who deliver relief when help can’t wait. Our humanitarian mission wouldn’t be possible without this network of dedicated volunteers, more than 90% of the Red Cross workforce.
“As the pandemic wears on, we have seen a growing desire to give back,” said Rebecca DeLorenzo, Executive Director, Florida’s Space Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross. “We celebrate this humanitarian spirit during Red Cross Month and ask others to join us.”
You can help ensure that families don’t face emergencies alone — especially during a pandemic. Any support you can provide makes a difference — whether it’s uniting with thousands of compassionate people to donate on Red Cross Giving Day, March 24; volunteering; or learning lifesaving skills.
We also invite residents, businesses and landmarks to “light up red” on March 24, in recognition of the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross.
