The name comes from our owners—a mother and daughter team. The mother, Mary Mead, and her daughter, Caryn Mead Kelly, began Melly in 2006. The name is a combination of Mead and Kelly.

SOUTHDALE CENTER OPENED IN 1956, staking its claim as America’s very first indoor regional shopping mall. What is the atmosphere like?  The space is so cozy! I was apprehensive about opening in a modern building after our LynLake location was launched in an old,beautiful building with such amazing character. Edina really is the beautiful little sister to Minneapolis.

What is great about being a business owner in Edina? The community! We were overwhelmed and so grateful for how supportive people were when we opened in the midst of a pandemic. Both our guests and our fellow business owners have been so lovely.

New to 50th & France in 2020, this upscale taqueria is known for its refined approach to tacos and tequila. An intentional selection of ingredients and bold, vibrant flavors add a modern twist to Pajarito’s traditional Mexican fare.

The new location is a welcome and exciting addition to the neighborhood. “We’ve been looking for quite a while to open another Pajarito in this area,” says chef and owner, Steve Hesse. “50th & France is such a nice, quaint community. Opening a new location here feels like a really good second home for us.”

There’s a lot to be excited about with the Edina version of Pajarito: a larger open kitchen will enable restaurant-goers to watch while tortillas are made and meals are assembled. Two woodfire ovens will allow for expanded menu options. “You’ll be able to get 95% of your favorite St. Paul menu options at the Edina location, but we’re also looking to expand the taco and woodfire offerings here,” says Hesse. The new location also features a reservable event space in the basement: perfect for private parties, larger groups, and receptions.

Keep in mind that Pajarito’s contemporary and creative approach to Mexican cuisine isn’t limited to the food—their fabulous cocktail menu will still be available in all its glory at the Edina location too. Try the habanero cilantro margarita or the snozberry version with creme de cassis, dry curaçao, and strawberry-lemon shrub. Why is Centennial Lakes Park so unique?  Centennial Lakes Park is exceptional because the lakes are surrounded by unique amenities that stretch over 23 acres and it neighbors several commercial and residential developments.

What kind of activities are available to visitors?  During the summer months, visitors can rent paddle boats, fish in the ponds, browse the Farmers Market; explore a maze; or try their luck on the bent grass putting course or lawn bowling lanes. The Park also has miles of walking paths that wrap around the lake and planting beds filled with beautiful flowers and trees. In the winter, visitors can rent skates and skate on 10-acres of groomed ice.

Tell us about the amphitheater…. is there live entertainment?

You betcha! The amphitheater has concerts three nights a week and plenty of other special events like movies and dance classes. Families and children can also enjoy children’s concerts twice a week!

What is your favorite thing about working in the park? That I get to work there! I keep telling myself that and can’t believe it! The Park is an amazing amenity for the community and people absolutely love it! I am so lucky to be a part of a place people love to visit.

The community of Edina also celebrates and supports local artists in a unique way by hosting two major art events, in June and in September, drawing thousands of art lovers to the area.

Summer

EDINA ART FAIR

Truly in a class of its own, this fair is a top art event in Minnesota and the country. From June 2-4, join over 200,000 visitors of the 55th annual event to admire the work of more than 300 local and national fine artists and crafters. Explore booth upon booth of ceramics, jewelry, glass, photography, wood carvings, mixed media, wearables and sculptures. There’s free admission, a shuttle bus from Southdale Center, a Kids’ Zone, concession stands, food trucks and more. Rain or shine.

PARADE OF BOATS

More than 100 radio-controlled boats, piloted by members of the Edina Model Yacht Club, take to “the high seas” of Centennial Lakes Park every summer. Enjoy the annual Parade of Model Boats in June (stay tuned for a date) where you can see the boats in action and talk with their proud owners.

FOURTH OF JULY PARADE AND FIREWORKS

An old-fashioned community celebration, the city and the Edina Community Foundation present a parade with marching bands, veterans, floats, costumed characters and more. What better way to end the day than with a glittering display of fireworks?

TORCHLIGHT CONCERT Celebrate summer with an annual ode to warmer weather on the second Sunday of August. The ultimate family-friendly event in Centennial Lakes Park is free and a treat for all ages. Snacks and treats including popcorn, drinks and ice cream abound. The celebration also features antique cars, vintage piano-playing and a “mechanical man” movement performance. Enjoy a twinkling light show coordinated by the Edina Model Yacht Club—at sundown,

lighted boats dart across the water against the backdrop of a built-to-scale lighthouse. Top off the night with a musical performance and a fireworks finale.

STYLE EDINA

In 2021 we shifted Style Edina to September and gave it an autumn twist. Stay tuned for our 2023 date by following Explore Edina on FB and Instagram. Each year we celebrate fashion from local Edina boutiques at the annual Style Edina event at the Westin Edina Galleria. Coordinated by Explore Edina, 50th and France, Galleria Edina and Southdale Center, the occasion showcases Edina’s diverse offerings as a retail destination. THE ARTS FESTIVAL

Edina has yet another stellar art fair from September 9-10, drawing thousands of visitors. At Centennial Lakes Park see 225 artists displaying a wide variety of media including pottery, sculpture, fiber, glass and much more. Created by a past Edina Art Center instructor, the annual event supports the local artists and the Crime Prevention Fund—proceeds are earmarked to keep the city safe.
