These resources are providing critical assistance to people who have been displaced, and I encourage residents to take advantage of the help available to them.”

SHELTER RESOURCES: Licking County Shelters are available at the following locations: Old West Licking Station — Jefferson Street, Pataskala Southgate Church — South 30th Street, Heath New Life Church — West Main Street, Hebron Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church — 5133 Walnut Road SE, Buckeye Lake Perry County The American Red Cross continues to operate a shelter at the Perry County Fairgrounds in New Lexington, where approximately 40 to 50 people are being housed each night.

EMERGENCY FOOD ASSISTANCE: The Southeast Ohio Foodbank has provided emergency food assistance to Perry County residents affected by the flooding through two emergency mobile markets.

Corning 156 families served, 5,148 pounds of food distributed.

Supported by a $25,000 grant from the AEP Ohio Foundation.

I recently rode an America 250 bicycle ride sponsored by Columbus Outdoor Pursuits called XGOBA. We began in Wheeling, WV where we parked our vehicles and loaded our bikes and gear onto a bus. The bus took us to Oregon, Ohio (near Toledo). We began our ride on Sunday morning July 26th and rode along beautiful Lake Erie. The first day we rode approximately 70 miles to Marblehead. When I am on my bike I feel like I am 12 years old again. We rode along the lake saw the historic lighthouse in Marblehead. The oldest continually operated lighthouse on the Great Lakes. Also, the first female lighthouse operator! I had a perch sandwich and a cream soda and thought I was in heaven.

We moved farther south each day going through towns of Fremont where President Rutherford B. Hayes is from. This is also the first presidential library in the country.

We traveled to Norwalk, Ashland and Brewster where the largest manufacturer of Swiss cheese in North America is located. We traveled through beautiful countryside filled with beautiful Amish homes and little children tending the gardens and playing in the yards with their siblings.

We traveled through Cadiz, Ohio and began experiencing the beauty of southeaster Ohio. Oh, and the hills too! We ended up in Wheeling on the last day where our vehicles were parked. Thirty people from all over the United States did this ride.

While the scenery was beautiful each day and remained beautiful each day it rarely changed. What did change was me. I realized how blessed I am and how life is to be enjoyed the best we can, one mile at a time!
