Don’t just travel,

Small group adventures

400+ trips. 100 countries. Countless adventures.

Welcome

View of the Acropolis, Athens

This October I’ll be setting off to India to experience our Golden Triangle trip a journey I’ve dreamt of for years. From Delhi’s bustling streets to Jaipur and the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, I can’t wait to immerse myself in the colours, flavours and warmth of a country long on my list.

Even before this adventure begins, I’m already looking ahead to 2026 for my next walking trip in Europe. A few years back I hiked the Lycian Way in Turkey, and it changed the way I travel. Walking adventures let you see a place differently, connect deeply and create moments to remember. They remind me why we do what we do: in a sometimes challenging world, travel proves how beautiful, friendly and accepting it really is.

In 2026 we’re excited to bring new adventures, from Java and Bali to Algeria and Japan’s Kyushu Island. Our Explore Upgraded collection is also growing, with new tours in Northern India, Andalucia and Cambodia.

I hope you enjoy dreaming, planning and choosing your next adventure and that it brings as much joy as travel brings me.

Ben

Unforgettable experiences

Once-in-a-lifetime moments are guaranteed; we’ll take you closer to the country, its culture and people, often in spontaneous, impossible-to-replicate ways. You’ll come home having seen and experienced the destination in a way few others ever will.

We work hard to ensure we have a positive impact on the communities we visit.

Small groups

Our average group size is just 11 –big enough to meet like-minded people but small enough to get to the heart of a destination. Groups are usually a mix of solos, couples, family and friends, united by an adventurous spirit and a sense of fun.

reasons to go solo 6

Go on, go solo! Why 2026 is shaping up to be the biggest yet for solo travel

Solo travel can seem daunting, especially the first time. But two-thirds of our bookings now come from solo travellers – proof that more people than ever are choosing to see the world with confidence and freedom. And 2026 is shaping up to be the most empowering, accessible, and enjoyable year ever to travel on your own. Small group tours provide a winning formula for the ever-growing number of solo travellers: offering welcoming groups, expert leaders, flexible itineraries, and genuine adventure with a safety net. Whether it’s your first trip or your fiftieth, the world’s never been more ready for you.

Here are six reasons to go solo in 2026.

1

Because it’s compromisefree – this is your adventure

You don’t have to be single to travel solo. Many solo travellers have partners, families, or friends they usually travel with – they just wanted this trip to be theirs. It’s about freedom, space, and exploring the world on your own terms, without compromise.

2 Because connection comes naturally

Small-group travel is all about shared moments –meals around the table, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and easy-going company. Most people join not knowing anyone, so friendships form fast. You might arrive alone, but you won’t stay that way for long.

3

Because solo travel’s for everyone

Solo travel isn’t just for school-leaving backpackers. From adventurers in their 30s to experienced travellers in their 70s, solo travel spans all ages, backgrounds and travel styles. Whether you’re a seasoned explorer or taking a bold step into a new style of travel, there’s an Explore trip with your name on it.

4

Choose the pace and the comfort level that’s right for you

Travelling with others means there’s usually a level of compromise – from the destination to how much downtime you have, where you stay or even where you eat. This time round, you’re doing the choosing. Pick a trip where you’ll sleep on the deck of a houseboat, or in opulence in a Maharajas’ Palace. Pack it all in on a full-on itinerary, or make sure there’s plenty of free time built in. When there’s no one else to think of but yourself, you can make sure your next trip is exactly what you want – and what you deserve.

5

With small group trips, flexibility meets support

You’ll have the freedom to enjoy solo time when you want it, and the reassurance of a group when you don’t. Fancy an early night? Go for it. Want to join the optional hike or group dinner? It’s all there for the taking –with no pressure, and no planning needed.

Choose to share a room with a fellow solo traveller, or guarantee your own space with a solo supplement – it’s up to you.

6

Because it’s more a ordable than you think

We’re making solo travel more accessible than ever in 2026 – with low single supplements, or room shares available if you prefer, and activities and meals often included. Explore makes sure you get all the benefits, at a great value.

Whether it’s finally getting round to a long-dreamed-of adventure, taking a mini-sabbatical or mid-career reset, or snapping up a last-minute “why not?”, travelling solo could be just the ticket in 2026.

Treefrogs, telescopes and treetops:

Wildlife tales from Costa Rica

When Eve signed up for our Costa Rica Wildlife Tour, she had one mission in mind: spot a treefrog. But what she discovered along the way was so much more magical…

Travel has taken me far and wide, but Costa Rica completely surprised me. I love trips where you can take your time, soak up the culture, and really connect with a place – and this adventure ticked every box.

What amazed me most was the sheer volume of wildlife. I didn’t expect it to be quite so constant –it felt like nature was around every corner. The way Costa Rica protects and celebrates its wildlife is inspiring, and you can feel how deeply that’s woven into everyday life.

Our itinerary was the perfect blend of action and freedom – with plenty of time to pause and take it all in. Allan, our tour leader, was the heart of the trip. A born naturalist, he had an incredible eye – spotting tiny creatures hidden in the trees and bringing them to life with his stories. He carried a telescope too, so

it’s a rare and beautiful thing to witness, and I felt so lucky to have seen

it.

we could marvel at vibrant birds, frogs and lizards up close. It also meant I came away with some unforgettable photos.

What made the experience really special was Allan’s passion. He didn’t just show us the country –he helped us feel it. His insight and local tips gave us a real connection to Costa Rica, and his calm, easy-going nature made the whole trip smooth and stress-free. There were eight of us in the group, from teens to 60s, and we clicked instantly. Saying goodbye was hard – though we’ve all stayed in touch!

Beyond the wildlife, a real highlight was whitewater rafting. Was it slightly terrifying? Yes. Did I get completely soaked? Absolutely. But the adrenaline, the scenery, the thrill – it was unforgettable. I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Even with all the wildlife Costa Rica is famous for, there were still plenty of surprises – like suddenly meeting a white-faced capuchin and her baby, just metres away.

One moment I’ll never forget? Watching a sloth slowly climb down from the canopy – something they only do once a week to go to the toilet! It sounds bizarre, but it’s a rare and beautiful thing to witness, and I felt so lucky to have seen it.

Of course, I got my wish too: I saw treefrogs! One evening Allan took us to a frog pond near our hotel, and we watched them climbing trees by torchlight. The next morning we went back, and there they were – curled up fast asleep, disguised as leaves. Magical.

By the time we left, I felt full of new memories, new friends, and a deep love for Costa Rica. I didn’t feel like I’d missed a thing… except maybe staying just a little longer.

Go for

Make the most of your time away with longer, more immersive adventures.

W longer

hy settle for a week away when you could explore for two, three, or even four? More travellers are choosing extended holidays that let them see more, or move at a gentler pace. Longer trips also help reduce the carbon impact of each travel day –making your flights count and stretching the joy far beyond the jet lag. From epic overland journeys to back-to-back adventures, there are plenty of ways to stay on the road a little longer.

Go a little deeper – in-depth tours

Our longer in-depth itineraries are perfect for those who like to linger and really immerse themselves in a destination. Wander the streets of Istanbul and marvel at Cappadocia’s fairy chimneys, or explore the Cycladic Islands of Greece on foot, uncovering hidden beaches and villages. Trace Sicily’s ancient sites and bustling markets, or combine lush landscapes, wildlife encounters, and centuries-old temples in Sri Lanka. Further east, Vietnam and Cambodia reveal vibrant street life, tranquil rivers, and iconic UNESCO Sites, all at a relaxed, unhurried pace.

Multi-country masterpieces

Some adventures span entire regions, letting you experience contrasting landscapes and cultures in one journey. Travel the Five Stans of the Silk Road, from Kyrgyzstan’s mountains to Turkmenistan’s deserts, or traverse Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia on the Jewels of Indochina tour. In Europe, explore the Balkans by rail, discover Macedonia’s villages and lakes, or trace history across Eastern Europe. These all-encompassing journeys uncover hidden corners and create stories that last a lifetime.

Official (and unofficial) combos

Sometimes two shorter itineraries combine perfectly for a fuller adventure. Travel from Venice to Rome by rail, then continue to the Amalfi Coast for a seamless cultural and culinary experience. Or pair Malta’s ancient temples, fortified Valletta, and island culture with Sicily’s volcanic landscapes, Greek temples, and food markets for a rich blend of history, scenery, and flavours. You can also take on a three-week overland journey along the Silk Road of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Free transfers between tours make connecting simple.

Mix and match in Europe

Europe’s diversity makes it perfect for combining trips into longer adventures. Link the Historic Baltic Republics with the Alpine Lakes of Slovenia, moving from rich history and intriguing cultures to pristine lakes and alpine landscapes. Pair a week cycling Croatia’s coast with two weeks exploring Turkey’s fascinating tapestry of cultures, or a week soaking up the enchanting atmosphere of Madeira with a week exploring the vibrant cities and picturesque landscapes of Northern Spain by train. Mixing and matching lets you experience more of Europe’s history, culture, and landscapes at a relaxed pace. To really make the most of your Explore European adventure, why not travel by train between your trips using International Rail.

Your adventure, extended

Want to explore a city before your tour, or enjoy some downtime on the beach afterwards? Pre- and post-tour extensions make it easy.

With flexible departures, expert planning, and dozens of possible combinations, it’s never been easier – or more rewarding – to extend your Explore adventure.

NEW – SAVE 5%

Two Trips. One Adventure. Double the Discovery. Book two (or more!) small group tours that depart within a month of each other and save 5% on both with promo code: EXTEND5.

Whether combining neighbouring countries or linking longer journeys, extend your escape and explore more of the world – one unforgettable adventure after another.

We focus on small-scale, high-impact initiati es that create eaning ul change and we’re proud to share just a few project highlights with you here.

Buzzing Off: How Many Elephants

Tanzania

As Tanzania’s towns expand into rural spaces, encounters between people and wildlife –especially elephants – are on the rise. Tempted by tasty crops like maize and vegetables, elephants stray into gardens and fields, often causing damage and danger.

But there’s a clever, nature-based solution: bees. Elephants are instinctively afraid of them, so simple fences strung with beehives create a natural barrier. When an elephant nudges the wire, the buzzing begins – and the elephants back off.

It’s a win-win: fewer human-wildlife conflicts, safer communities, and sweet success for the local women’s collective who harvest and sell the honey. So far, thanks to your support, the Explore Foundation has funded 1,000 metres of fencing and 50 beehives.

Clean Water, Brighter Futures: EAS Peru (NEW!)

High in the Andes, near Lake Titicaca, water purification systems have been installed in remote Aymara communities – but many now lie broken or poorly maintained due to a lack of trained technicians.

This new project, funded by the Explore Foundation, aims to change that. By training local engineers to maintain and repair these vital systems, communities will gain sustainable access to clean drinking water.

It’s not just about water – it’s about opportunity. These new skills mean participants can find further employment or train others, helping create a ripple effect of empowerment and resilience across generations.

Education for Opportunity:

Lone Buffalo

Laos

Laos is one of Southeast Asia’s poorest countries, with many families living on just $2 a day. In Phonsavan, the Lone Buffalo school offers free English and life skills classes – opening up brighter futures for young people in the community.

Explore has supported Lone Buffalo for over a decade and, through the Explore Foundation, we’ve proudly funded three full development programmes (DevTog 4, 5 and 6), supporting over 200 students to date.

Many go on to secure jobs in tourism or education, or become role models and mentors for others. It shows just how far access to education can go in helping young people shape their own futures.

Thank you

Every donation – no matter the size – helps us support communities and conservation projects across the globe. Together, we’re ensuring that travel doesn’t just broaden minds, it builds a better future.

Adventure, Upgraded!

Here’s all you need to know about an Upgraded adventure...

Stay somewhere special

This is comfort with character. Our Upgraded trips typically use 4-star properties often locally-owned and right where you want to be. We prioritise authenticity and location, so you’ll stay in the heart of the action, not hidden away. Occasionally, we’ll trade stars for something unforgettable like a palace, a heritage hotel, or a remote jungle lodge.

Wow moments included

Every Upgraded trip includes a standout experience you’ll still be talking about long after you return. It could be something exhilarating, heartwarming, or simply unforgettable but it’s always handpicked to bring the destination to life and deliver the ultimate adventure travel experience.

A welcome worth sharing

Start your journey with something special: a welcome meal, usually on day one or two. It’s a relaxed way to ease into the trip, get to know your fellow travellers, and enjoy a first taste of local culture, cuisine, and conversation.

Comfortable, sustainable, local

We’re still all about light footprints and real connections. Upgraded doesn’t mean over-the-top it means choosing quality stays and meaningful travel. Our small groups (around 11 people) and expert Tour Leaders bring destinations to life, all while supporting local communities.

Dream destinations, done right

From the hills of Portugal to the jungles of Costa Rica and the lantern-lit towns of Vietnam, Explore Upgraded trips include some of the world’s most sought-after destinations. With thoughtfully crafted itineraries, we’ve adapted the trip pace and shortened some days so you can really make the most of our upgraded facilities or spend more time exploring at your own rhythm. You’ll still experience the best of each place walking, wildlife, culture and more all with a premium accommodation twist.

To explore the full range of Upgraded trips visit exploreworldwide.com.au/upgraded or exploreworldwide.co.nz/upgraded

What to expect from a Food and drink trip

Take a deep dive into the world of gastronomic travel. Cuisine is a cultural cornerstone; the way we break bread with people acts as a a our ul insight into the tra itions an i entit o a place

Tacos, Mexico

Food for thought

Here’s all you need to know about a food and drink adventure…

Flavour first exploration

Food and drink is an important part of most of our tours, but this collection puts it front and centre. Our food tours focus on provenance and people: expect visits to family-run farms and expert local producers with lots of tastings. You’ll seek out regional specialities unique to your destination, from home cooking to markets to street food.

Experience-led encounters

As well as tastings, we incorporate hands-on experiences with the people at the heart of the regional specialities. You could be taking cookery classes with Italian nonnas, learning the tricks of traditional truffle hunting with specially trained French truffle dogs, or discovering tea and spice plantations on a farm-to-plate tour in India.

Will there be any michelin starred restaurants?

Our itineraries tend to focus on the typical flavours of the region with ordinary, flavourful cooking with recipes and techniques handed down through generations. But all trips have time for you to explore at your leisure, so you’ll be able to organise your own dinner at specific restaurants.

What if I am vegetarian, or have other dietary requirements?

Our trips are designed to encompass the full range of culinary experiences available an open mind and a willingness to try new things will add depth and breadth to your e perience or egetarians so e destinations are naturally more suited.

We recommend A Taste of Greece (XGR) and A Taste of Southern India (XKB). Please speak to our team for trip-specific information about allergies or restrictive diets.

The food experiences ranged from street food tours, cooking and food prep, meals with local families, banquet, organic farm visit, markets, local delicacies, demos etc – were all highly enjoyable. The tour guide, Bac, was outstanding and worked tirelessly to ensure the trip went perfectly.

What to expect from a Wildlife trip

Led by expert guides and designed for nature lovers, our tours take you into the heart of the wild. These are journeys made for wildlife enthusiasts eaning ul respec ul an un orge able

Where the wild roams

Here’s all you need to know about a wildlife adventure…

Expert-led wildlife experiences

Our tours are led by experienced local guides and naturalists who know the best times and places to spot wildlife in their natural habitats. Whether you’re tracking big cats on the savannah or spotting rare birds in the rainforest canopy, you’ll benefit from their in-depth knowledge and passion for conservation. Small group sizes ensure minimal disturbance to animals and a more personal, rewarding experience for every traveller.

Responsible animal encounters

We believe in observing animals respectfully and from a safe distance, without disturbing their natural behaviours. Our itineraries are carefully planned to prioritise the welfare of wildlife, avoiding captive attractions and unethical interactions. You’ll enjoy authentic, unscripted moments whether it’s a herd of elephants at a watering hole or a sloth in the treetops knowing that your trip supports sustainable wildlife tourism practices.

Our wildlife protection policy

Our Animal Protection Policy guides every wildlife experience we offer. In line with global best practices and expert consultation, it prohibits harmful activities like elephant riding, walking with big cats, or visiting venues where animals are used for entertainment. We assess each supplier for their welfare standards and actively promote experiences that help protect habitats and support conservation. Travelling with us means making a positive impact on the wildlife you’ve come to see.

Small groups, big impact

Travelling in small groups reduces our environmental footprint and enhances your wildlife viewing opportunities. With fewer people, we can access more remote, less crowded locations places where wildlife thrives and mass tourism hasn’t reached. It also fosters stronger connections within the group and more time for individual questions, stories, and discoveries, all while supporting local communities and conservation efforts directly.

On the way to Everest Base Camp

With so many trips, we just can’t fit them all into this brochure!

Make sure to visit our website where you can choose from 400+ trips to more than 100 countries worldwide.

The guides and the porters were incredible. They ensured everything was taken care of, were amazing support, and they served up some brilliant food!

Walk this way

Here’s all you need to know about a small group Walking adventure...

Grade expectations

Each Walking holiday we offer is graded from ‘Leisurely’ (typically low-lying and mostly undemanding terrain, with plenty of non-walking time built-in) to ‘Challenging Tough’ (high altitude, long trekking days that require good fitness). Our trips are all online where you’ll find details of the walking distances, timings and terrain, and the total ascent and descent over the course of each hike. You won’t need to be an Olympian for any of them, but it’s still a good idea to get out and do some pre-holiday walks to find your feet, so to speak.

Travel light (we’ll carry the rest)

On all our Walking trips, your main luggage will be transported for you, so you’re free to carry just a day sack (to hold water, snacks, camera, sun protection and extra clothing). On more challenging treks we’ll have additional guides to assist the Tour Leader and the group. We plan the routes and organise all accommodation so you can just focus on enjoying it (and putting one foot in front of the other).

You’ll never walk alone

Our small groups are perfect for walking holidays as you’ll always have company if you want it. Each group is different there’s usually a mix of solo travellers, couples and friends travelling together and is typically around 11 strong. Your Tour Leader will let everyone go at their own pace, regrouping together regularly.

Can I do it my way?

Sometimes, yes. Our Walking trips are broadly divided into two; firstly there are centre-based trips where you stay in one place and leave from it each day on a walk, giving you the flexibility to choose whether to join the planned walk each day or not, and allowing you to really get to know that area. The second type is point-to-point, where almost the entire journey from A to B is on foot and you’ll need to take part in all the walks.

See the full selection of Walking trips on our website at exploreworldwide.com.au/walking or exploreworldwide.co.nz/walking

Ali talking about her ‘Kilimanjaro Lemosho Trek’.

Walking grades

Good paths, low altitude and mostly undemanding terrain, with plenty of nonwalking time in the itinerary. Ideal for those in good health who can walk three to five hours in a day. Previous walking experience is not necessary.

Expect a mix of leisurely and moderate walks on fairly good paths at low altitude, with some more demanding ascents and descents and occasionally tricky terrain to spice it up just a little.

With generally good paths at low altitude (mainly below 2,500m), this is best for fit and active people who can walk three to seven hours a day with some more challenging terrain and demanding ascents and descents.

Combining moderate walks with some challenging hikes and demanding treks on difficult terrain or at higher altitudes, this is perfect for fit walkers who want to challenge themselves.

Trekking days are generally between six to eight hours, with some long, steep ascents and descents, sometimes at high altitude and on difficult terrain. A good fitness level and previous trekking experience is recommended.

Difficult terrain often at high altitudes and long trekking days (sometimes over nine hours). Requires a high level of fitness and you should be a confident, experienced trekker.

Cycling trips

Cycling in Jordan

The incredible thing about a cycling holiday is the ever-changing sights, sounds and smells as you’re travelling along.
Caitlin talking about her recent ‘Cycle Vietnam’ trip

Enjoy the ride

Here’s all you need to know about a small group Cycling adventure…

The bikes

We provide good-quality hybrid touring bikes or mountain bikes, whichever is best-suited to the terrain. Check online to see the type of bikes used for your tour, and whether panniers are included. Your Tour Leader will be on-hand to resolve any mechanical issues. Just bring your own helmet (and pedals if you prefer clipins, or anything other than the classic flat pedals that will be provided).

Join the e-bike revolution

On most trips we also give the option of e-bikes, which are all kinds of brilliant for travelling companions of different abilities or for those who want a different kind of push on more challenging climbs (slip into Eco Mode and feel a gentle, consistent helping hand guide you along smoothly). They’re well-worth the early request and small supplement.

The cyclists

There’s a certain amount of selfselection on these trips as infrequent cyclists don’t tend to book challenging rides and cyclists looking to push themselves don’t book leisurely routes. Within that, our Cycling holidays have a real mix of people solo travellers, couples, friends, men and women in equal measure; groups are typically around 11 people. Don’t worry about whether they’ll all be faster than you, or that you’ll have to hang around waiting for them wherever possible your Tour Leader will allow everyone to go at their own pace and re-gather along the route.

Blazing the trail: your Tour Leader

Our expert Tour Leaders are knowledgeable, experienced and they love cycling almost as much as they love the country and culture you’re in. They’re there to guide you along the route, to fix problems, recommend food stops and generally ease the smoothness of your ride.

The cycling trifecta: route, grade and terrain

We currently have four different grades of ride available from ‘Leisurely’ to ‘Moderate and Challenging’ and run trips in Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and the Middle East. As you can imagine, leisurely rides tend to be shorter, flatter and slower, and the more challenging the ride, the more hills and time-in-the-saddle you’ll get. We deliberately aim for quieter roads and cycle paths where we can. Look online for more detail on daily distances, route and terrain for each trip.

Fit for the ride

How fit you’ll need to be really depends on the trip you choose but none o our c cling trips are a race ou ll regularly stop and regroup along the route with all-important rest (and re-fuelling) breaks planned in. On most trips a support vehicle will be nearby to provide back-up if needed. If you’re in any doubt, choose a grade within your comfort zone and it’s always advisable to do some training rides leading up to your trip.

A mix of Leisurely and Moderate rides cycling through flat or gently undulating terrain with the occasional energetic ascent.

Perfect for cyclists used to undulating routes with occasional energetic climbs, and those who have a reasonable level of fitness. Approximately 4-6 hours in the saddle for each day of cycling.

Combining Moderate rides with Challenging ones, this grade is perfect for reasonably fit cyclists who want to challenge themselves.

What

to expect

from a family adventure

Ages and stages

Our family groups are as varied as the kids who join them. Most often, you’ll find tweens and teens aged 11–16, but we’re always happy to welcome younger adventurers aged 7–10, too. If you’re curious, we can let you know the typical age range on any specific trip. We always encourage you to think about your child’s maturity, adaptability, and readiness for the adventure before booking.

Immersed in the subject

It’s a holiday first and foremost, of course, but it’s not without its educational benefits. These holidays can be classed under ‘horizon widening’. Want them to learn about climate change? Take them to a rainforest. Want to bring history to life? Walk among temples built thousands of years ago. Want them to understand human differences and similarities? Visit a totally different culture. There is nothing quite like the deep, immersive nature of a small group adventure to open their eyes to the wider world.

Expert Tour Leaders

Our Tour Leaders are brilliant at what they do, and lovely people to boot. They’re very experienced and super-passionate about the country and culture. They know their way around, can handle the unexpected and will work hard all the way through the trip in order to make sure you and yours have the smoothest and most unforgettable of holidays.

WOW!

This could be a word you hear a lot. How else does someone with limited experience of the wider world respond to snorkelling in secluded coves, wandering through Roman ruins, canyoning down a gorge, eating with locals, searching for crocs, bustling through souks, hanging out in an oasis, staying on raft houses or ziplining through rainforests...? Maybe yours will use a different word, but it’ll mean the same thing – WOW!

Pace your people

Our ‘Relaxed’ holidays have some chilled mornings and dedicated pool days; ‘Moderate’ trips have a little less down-time and ‘Full On’ trips have some early starts and longer days... you choose what works for your family. We mix where you stay, from family-friendly hotels to tree tents and from homestays to houseboats and can usually configure things so you’re all together (or not, if you’d prefer!).
