Welcome to the Explora lodge on Rapa Nui. Our crafted explorations on the island are divided into four zones, each with its own set of unique geographic, cultural and natural characteristics. All exploration have been designed in order to gradually unveil the territory’s essence – either on foot, bicycle, at sea or by vehicle. Each day, one of our guides will gladly help you choose the right exploration for your interests.

We take a vehicle from the lodge to Maunga Tanga Roa, (the hill with the three crosses) and walk uphill. At the summit, we enjoy a 360° view of the Island. When walking down, we visit the pukao quarry, red scoria hat-like structures that were formerly placed on top of the moai.

Caminamos alrededor de una parte del cráter donde vemos la biodiversidad del humedal que está en su interior, hasta la aldea ceremonial de Orongo, donde conoceremos la historia de la famosa competencia del Hombre Pájaro.
We begin with a vehicle ride to Vinapu, where we explore its ahu and distinctive stonework. We then head to Rano Kau, the island’s largest crater. We walk along part of its rim, observing the wetland ecosystem within, until we reach the ceremonial village of Orongo, where we learn about the legendary Birdman competition.

Nos dirigiremos en vehículo hacia Papa Vaka, un sitio arqueológico donde destacan antiguos petroglifos tallados en piedra volcánica. We drive to Papa Vaka, an archaeological site featuring ancient petroglyphs carved into volcanic rock. From there, we walk across a small cove toward Te Pito Kura, known for its massive toppled moai and a magnetic stone believed to be linked to the origin of Rapa Nui. We then continue by vehicle to Anakena, the bay where the first Polynesian settlers are said to have landed. There will be time to enjoy its white sands —don’t forget your swimsuit.

In this exploration, we follow the ancient route of the pukao —the stone “topknots” once placed atop the moai— from their quarry to the coast. We begin at Puna Pau, the source of the pukao, and continue to Ahu Huri a Urenga, a distinctive platform noted for its unique design and astronomical alignment. We then drive toward the southern coast to visit Hanga Poukura, the island’s largest unrestored ahu, and Hanga Te‘e, where a small interpretive center invites us to delve deeper into the history and landscape of one of Rapa Nui’s lesser-known areas.

We set out by vehicle toward the eastern side of the island. Our first stop is Ahu One Makihi, where large moai lie fallen on the ground. We then continue to Ahu Tongariki—the largest ceremonial platform in all of Polynesia—where fifteen restored moai stand facing inland. In this area, it’s also possible to grasp part of Rapa Nui’s history, shaped by periods of conflict and division that left a lasting mark on its landscape and culture.

We take a vehicle from the lodge to the Hanga Roa cove, where we take a boat north to the Motu Tautara, an islet that is located very close to the island and in front of Ana Kakenga. During the boat trip you can appreciate a different view of the Tahai complex, as well as other archaeological sites located on the northwest coast of the island. The area where the Motu Tautara is located is part of a protected coastal marine area in which corals and a diversity of marine fauna can be seen, in addition to endemic species.
