College Supplies

College supplies are provided at the lowest prices possible. The ethos of the SU is to provide quality services on a non-profit basis to support students throughout their college life. The Office Shop is usually open daily from 8.30am to 5pm. However, the delivery of these services have been impacted by Covid 19 which will temporarily impact the location and operational times of these services. Information on these changes will be available separately on our website (www.MTUCorkSU.ie) and on our social media platforms. Some of the main products we provide include: • Lab coats • Safety goggles • Calculators • Locker padlocks • Stationery (limited supplies)

Student Leap Cards

These cards offer students significant savings on local and national travel. Please see full details of the benefits and options available to you on www.leapcard.ie Students must apply for the Student Leap Card through the main Leap website www.leapcard.ie – you will be asked to input your own personal details, and college details, and upload your own photo. The applicant will also be asked to pay for the card online. Payment will be a minimum of €10, and for this they will receive €5 travel deposit and (a minimum of) €5 travel credit, which is loaded onto their card. Once you pay online, confirm the details and accept the terms & conditions and privacy policy, you will then receive an email from the system with an order number (short-code). The next step is to come to the Students’ Union office where your student status is verified, details are checked, and the card will be issued.

Leap Card Collection Device

The SU has a Leap Card Collection Device which allows the user to: activate products which have been purchased online (it may take up to 36 hours to load the product after it has been purchased) and to check balances and products currently available on a leap card. This service may be temporarily suspended/limited to comply with Covid 19 safety measures.

Grinds Database

The Students’ Union maintains a grinds database to assist students who need a little extra help with their modules. The database is available at

The purchase and sale of second hand books is facilitated through our website and the service is provided by a third party, Unibooks.ie. There is a small charge to advertise books for sale. If arranging to meet a seller or buyer in person, please meet in a public location. If trying to sell your books, be realistic about the sale price taking into consideration the original price and the age of the book and the edition.

Mobile Phone & Mobile Device Charger

A device to charge your mobile phone or mobile device is available from the Students’ Union Office. This service is free of charge but please note devices are left at owners risk and are not supervised. Similar devices are available in the Caretakers’ Office, the Information Desk and the Common Room. This service may be temporarily suspended/ limited to comply with Covid 19 safety measures.

Get Home Safely

The Students’ Union is concerned with your safety and strongly advice against anyone walking home at night. If you run out of money, call Satellite Cabs on 1890 20 20 20, and they will bring you home safely. Present the driver with your MTU ID card in lieu of payment. The driver in turn will drop the card back into the SU and the fare will be paid and a receipt given. You can then collect your ID from the SU Office and pay your fare

MTU Cork SU Lidl Shopping Shuttle

A free shopping shuttle runs each Monday, a convenient and fun way to stock up those shelves. The service operates on a booking basis. E: Fiona.leddy@su.mtu.ie to secure your place each week.
