Lindsey and Jimmy Hodges always thought they would retire on his family farm in Cave City, but when he received an offer to coach basketball at Southside, it was an opportunity they could not pass up.

The family, which also includes son Hayes and daughter Sloane, first moved to Batesville’s College Heights neighborhood, but when a property on Main Street became available in 2019

Lindsey and Jimmy jumped at the chance.

“Now we run an Airbnb on the top floor, Historic Stay on Main, and we live on the bottom floor,” she said. “It’s been one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.”

For Lindsey, the area’s rich history is a major draw.

“Batesville is like its own time machine, where one can walk the stone sidewalks that another family strolled in the 1880s, spend the night at an upscale boutique hotel, The Royal on Main, that once served as a mercantile in the 1890s, or sit on the patio of The Pinto just like the old men used to sit on that same corner and watch the world roll by.”

What Batesville seems to do best is offer experiences you can't seem to pair up anywhere else.

While Batesville offers all of the benefits of a small town, Lindsey said there is also a wide variety of attractions, such as rock climbing, fishing and more.

“If it’s culture that you want to take in, we have a museum, antique malls, boutique shopping, art galleries, food trucks, unique eateries, fun festivals, a farmer’s market, the list goes on. Any town is going to have a park for the kids and a good restaurant or two, but what Batesville seems to do best is offer experiences you can’t seem to pair up anywhere else. You can hike or kayak in the morning and still meet your friends on the patio at The Pinto for lunch. Where else can you watch the newest Star Wars movie in one of the oldest standing cinemas?

“It’s where the old and new are held hand in hand. It’s where you can transition from indoor wonders to outdoor wanders. The best part? It’s all in the same place.”
