Cities around the world filled with noise and movement can be found by the handful. However, Toronto moves at a different pace: one where energy can be felt on every street, yet calm and silence are only minutes away; a quality rarely found in a major metropolis, in this case, Canada’s most populous city.

Sometimes, it takes looking at the familiar through different eyes to discover new perspectives. Toronto is the perfect place to put this into practice. The city that inaugurated the CN Tower in 1976 – considered the world’s tallest freestanding structure for more than three decades – and that merged with the former municipalities of North York, Scarborough, Etobicoke, York, and East York in 1998 to form the present-day City of Toronto, is now also a place where sustainability is a requirement. Since 2010, the Toronto Green Standard has established that new compounds, whether private or municipal, must incorporate energy and water efficiency measures and help reduce local thermal feel. Such is Toronto’s duality: deeply urban, developed, and diverse in every facet, yet also capable of offering a genuine window onto nature. Its architecture features Victorian buildings – including the largest continuous area of preserved Victorian housing in North America, specifically in Cabbagetown – and blends Edwardian brick buildings and former industrial structures with a contemporary vertical residential expansion. Right there, in the middle of a cluster of business buildings, lies AIRE Ancient Baths, the Spanish brand’s first Canadian location, inspired by Roman, Greek, and Ottoman bathing traditions and reinterpreted as contemporary water circuits and wellness treatments. It occupies a 1912 Edwardian Classical building formerly used by Copp Clark, a historic Canadian book-printing company. AIRE has preserved elements of the original architecture, creating the sensation of a profound journey into another era as you make your way through a circuit of pools offering different temperatures and benefits, including a saltwater flotation pool and a salt exfoliation area. In the same neighborhood is 1 Hotel Toronto, which opened in 2021 as a portal to nature. With a sustainability concept that has earned LEED Gold certification, the hotel primarily uses reclaimed wood and local marble and incorporates around 3,000 plants throughout its spaces. It is a sneak peek at what awaits just a few minutes away. Shades of green Just 10 minutes from King West Village, Lake Ontario stretches out before visitors. To gain a different perspective and learn not only about Toronto’s history but also its architecture –featuring John Andrews, of course, along with key names such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and his Toronto-Dominion Centre (1967) – one of the best options is to take a boat tour with the Toronto Society of Architects or head out in a canoe. From the water, you can enjoy the calm of gazing at a skyline that now features more than 80 skyscrapers. Within Toronto itself, in the heart of the Don Valley, greenery spills into the city through places such as High Park, home to Shakespeare in the Park performances, and Evergreen Brick Works, a restored brick factory now dedicated to urban agriculture and offering the dose of nature city residents need after a hard day. Art provides another escape from the pace of the major metropolis Toronto has become, with its 3.27 million inhabitants.

Located in Grange Park, the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is perhaps the best place to understand the city’s cultural identity: Canadian and Indigenous art; European masters such as Rembrandt, Monet, Van Gogh, Matisse, Degas, Gauguin, and Picasso; as well as contemporary, African, and diasporic art. Yet one of the essential experiences for those who appreciate contemporary art and gastronomy in equal measure can be found at Forno Cultura inside the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). At this bakery, which has eight locations across Toronto, architect by training and baker by profession Andrea Mastrandrea offers an authentic introduction to the culinary culture of Puglia through classes where guests learn to make pasta from scratch, drink a glass of wine, and talk as old friends would while eating cheese and bread and waiting for the pasta to reach the perfect al dente texture. Through everyday rituals, such as buying bread, having an espresso, and sitting down to observe the city and its multicultural character, you find a pause unlike any other. This mix of nationalities and cultures is precisely what brings something unique to Toronto’s tables. A lively scene of young people gathered around shared tables confirms just how genuinely exciting food is for those who live here. Dishes meant for sharing, such as Dan Dan Noodles (the Sichuan classic) at Sunnys Chinese, reached through an unmarked alley in Kensington Market; or Goong Moun (crispy fried tofu stuffed with shrimp, carrot, chili, and betel leaf, served with Arjard sauce) at Koh Lipe Thai Kitchen, are excellent examples of Toronto’s culinary importance. Their inclusion in the Michelin selection is reason enough to visit them at least once during your stay. But to truly learn about the region’s food culture, a visit to St. Lawrence Market is essential. Take a gastronomic tour with Culinary Adventure Co. and taste your way

through its remarkable offerings: local oysters; the different varieties of salmon found along Canada’s coasts – including double-smoked wolffish salmon, gravlax with vodka, and smoked Atlantic salmon – seasonal berries, a wide variety of local cheeses paired with a glass of ice wine, and desserts that reveal the region’s immigrant heritage and capture exactly what makes eating in Toronto so special. Go with the Flow Behind the urban noise, water becomes the dominant sound. Niagara Falls are 80 miles from Toronto, making the roughly hour-and-a-half drive the perfect tour into the destination’s more natural side. But drive just a few minutes farther and another dimension of the region emerges: Niagara-on-the-Lake, where vineyards, small historic towns, and landscapes that transform with the seasons come together in one of Ontario’s most sophisticated expressions. Among other reasons, you come here to understand the importance of the land to Canadian wine. “Niagara represents approximately 80% of Canadian grape and wine production; in addition, Ontario accounts for around 90% of grape production,” explains Casey Hogan, winemaker at Southbrook Vineyards, as visitors sample his aromatic, refreshing organic Riesling on a terrace overlooking the vineyards. Stone Eagle Winery, with its striking contemporary architecture, is another must. It opened in late 2025, and its restaurant, The Nest, creates its menu around the winery’s labels; not the other way around. Niagara-on-the-Lake is also slated to welcome a new Ritz-Carlton at the historic Rand Estate, a development planned to include a 111-room hotel that, if completed, would further elevate the region’s luxury profile. Ultimately, Toronto does not need to leave its urban identity behind to offer tranquility and silence. You simply need to pull back slightly to realize that, along every street and trail, and among the trees and skyscrapers, silence can find its way through as well.

In the heart of Niagara, Restaurant Pearl Morissette transforms its regenerative farm into a seasonal dining experience. Its French-inspired tasting menu celebrates Canadian ingredients with technique and precision.

As hot water is poured in circles over a V60, filtering an exceptional Geisha into a warmed cup, Ivan Ralston – a Brazilian chef with three Michelin stars – still savoring his last sip, thinks aloud: “This place is the Burgundy of coffee.” Then, with the pride of someone who has just had a brilliant idea, he adds: “You can have that title for your feature”. I promised I would use it because it perfectly exemplifies the idea that a product is deeply influenced by the land where it grows. Just as Burgundy is to wine, Boquete, in Panama, has begun to engrave its name in gold for future generations of coffee.

In a country said to have neither north nor south, coffee boutiques, tasting rooms, and specialty experiences are beginning to take over the neighborhoods of a city where past and present face one another, divided by the sea, as the tide permits. For nearly 10 years, La Cosecha has been the platform steering this movement, year after year subtly but permanently sowing the seeds of coffee culture throughout the country. Casa Santana is a gallery now transforming its entrance into a specialty coffee shop while retaining the exhibition and artist residencies it has always had, but adding coffee culture to its business card. Other projects are born from zero, seeking to unfold the experience across three dimensions: they operate as boutique coffee shops and private tasting rooms designed for more intimate tastings, while upstairs they incorporate spaces such as the BEC Museum, which offers a concise yet compelling overview of the history of coffee and other notable products from the region, including cacao and beer. Inside the tasting room, Graciano Cruz proudly presents one of his Geishas – now a Panama flagship variety – as he tells us how his travels through Africa inspired the introduction of new coffee-processing techniques in the country, including natural and honey processes. Restaurants such as Maito offer coffee rituals featuring their own house Geisha, washed and brewed using the V60 method, while Umi takes things a step further with serious

mixology and thoughtfully conceived pastries. Others simply build upon the work that has been taking place in Boquete for years, such as the coffee and dessert pairing experiences at the Sofitel Legend hotel, located in Casco Viejo, whose architecture takes you time traveling with the elegance of the era. But the epicenter of this entire whirlwind is Boquete, a beautiful mountain town that currently offers a range of restaurants and coffee shops scattered throughout the area, as well as farms that, in many cases, offer experiences of their own. At Panamonte hotel, now a veteran of hospitality that has witnessed the town’s dizzying transformation over the course of 100 years, a renowned cupping session is led by none other than Ricardo Koyner. There, he gives us the opportunity to taste the world’s most expensive coffee by taking small, vigorous sips, almost slurping from the spoon to draw oxygen in as the liquid spreads across the palate. The coffee’s oiliness makes you think about coffee for a second, but the acidity and floral character of the Geisha quickly take you back to the world of coffee. Koyner represents the third generation carrying on the legacy of Kotowa Farms and perfectly understands how coffee and its processes have evolved over time. He explains that competing on volume with countries such as Brazil or Colombia was never an option for Panama; standing out for quality, however, was. This is where “Panamanian Geisha” has gained momentum year after year, reaching some of the highest prices per kilogram in the world, with Japan, China, and the Middle East among its leading markets.

Hacienda La Esmeralda is one of the farms responsible for taking this coffee to record-breaking figures, reaching a price of $30,200 dollars per kilogram. The estate is an essential stop; even Panama’s president paid a visit, curious to discover what was happening here. Daniel Peterson, the second generation at the helm of the family project, explains that his father placed his bet on specialty coffee four decades ago, a decision that has allowed them to remain at the forefront of competitions ever since. In the end, it all seems to go back to the same place: the land; to altitude, climate, and the patient work of those who have learned to read each harvest and understand that coffee does not end at the farm, but merely begins there. And perhaps that is why Ivan Ralston’s phrase makes even more sense. Boquete does not simply produce coffee; it has built a culture, an identity, and a way of understanding the land around its harvest. And at the heart of it all, as a champion of the celebrated fruit, is Jorge Chanis, one of the driving forces behind La Cosecha, who understands that a harvest is not just what is gathered from the ground, but everything that is sown around it. For years, his work has helped introduce Panama to a new generation of consumers who are not simply looking to drink good coffee, but want to know where it comes from, who grew it, and what story lies behind every cup. Perhaps that is Boquete’s true value: understanding that the future of coffee must also be cultivated. And that when the land and the people behind an idea find themselves moving in the same direction, a territory ultimately becomes an appellation in its own right. A Burgundy of coffee.

Features

I’m waiting to cross the street. Something so simple, yet filled with anticipation. From this corner, Harumi and Sotobori avenues and Sony Street converge at the Sukiyabashi intersection, creating a choreography among pedestrians, much like Shibuya, but without quite so many tourists. It is Sunday, and Chuo-dori becomes a pedestrian zone where locals come to enjoy themselves, offering a welcome respite in this bustling district. Here, in the heart of Marunouchi, stands the Four Seasons Hotel, which recently underwent a renovation that has brought a greater sense of warmth in every sense of the word. The hospitality begins the moment you arrive, with a deep bow and an irasshaimase (“welcome” in Japanese). The lobby now features walls framed with textured washi paper panels and enormous curved eucalyptus-wood walls that seem to defy physics, while light filters discreetly through the space. The hotel’s 57 rooms are softly lit; the carpets create gentle lines beneath your feet, while the welcome amenity – a Japanese tea and a matcha rice sweet – greets guests and invites them to unwind as they gaze through floor-toceiling windows at the contrasting, fast-paced rhythm of the streets outside. From Tokyo Station, just steps from the hotel, around 4,000 trains depart each day for destinations across Japan. Marunouchi, located between the station and the Imperial Palace, is now one of the city’s most emblematic districts. From the hotel’s seventh floor, it is easy to become mesmerized by the constant flow of high-speed Shinkansen trains, along with the many regional lines and direct subway connections, a continuous reminder that everything here is in motion.

Ginza, renowned as one of the city’s favorite shopping districts, offers an extensive array of stores best explored at an unhurried pace. It is also worth delving into its culinary offerings, from Ramen Street – located in the underground shopping complex – to Sushimasa, where lunch unfolds at the counter amid freshly prepared nigiri and the precise movements of the itamae: an experience that places simplicity and the quality of ingredients above everything else. Here, all you need to do is observe, taste, and allow the bite succession to set its own rhythm. Back in Marunouchi, the dining experience inside the Four Seasons provides a distinctive contrast. At Sézanne, the French restaurant led by Chef Stephen Lancaster, technique, exceptional ingredients, and a Japanese sensibility come together over white tablecloths in an atmosphere of absolute refinement. Awarded three Michelin stars in 2025 and named Japan’s Best Restaurant that same year by Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants, it is perhaps the most sophisticated expression of this culture encounter. Ultimately, Tokyo can also be understood through its food. Between Ginza’ sushi, the trains passing through Marunouchi, and contemporary cuisine, the city maintains one constant: everything happens at once. And perhaps that is precisely where its appeal lies – not in trying to stop it, but in finding your own rhythm as you move through it.

In 1976, Chopard imagined something radical: freeing the diamond from its setting to restore its movement. Happy Diamonds was born, an unprecedented collection that introduced a new way of understanding jewelry by allowing diamonds to move freely, creating what was described as a “dance” of light. Fifty years later, the idea remains as relevant as ever.

Caroline Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, designed a clown with articulated legs and gemstones on its belly when she was young. Her father secretly brought the design to life, and in 1985, this charming circus character gave rise to the Maison’s first jewelry collection.

Viajes con impacto positivo Travel with a Positive Impact

After spending several days listening to experts at Virtuoso Travel Week, it is clear to me that sustainability can grow and create broader possibilities when it is approached as a collective global commitment. I am convinced that when the travel industry is thoughtfully planned, it can be a driver of positive change in destinations. In Las Vegas, Global Stewardship was introduced, a program in which all members of the luxury travel ecosystem brought together by Virtuoso – agencies, suppliers, and destinations – collaborate to measure, share, and implement best practices that strengthen the resilience of destinations, communities, and cultures. Every day, more people are looking for purposeful travel options. The numbers are indeed changing. According to

Virtuoso’s annual impact study, 66% of clients are more interested in these types of initiatives today than they were five years ago. Internal research shows that luxury travelers value projects that protect wildlife, support local businesses and artisans, preserve the oceans, and conserve the land. Across the Virtuoso network, more than 11,000 global stewardship initiatives have been reported, categorized according to their positive impact on the planet, cultures, and local economies. Advisors are increasingly well prepared to explain responsible travel options, and this has also become a business opportunity as interest among luxury travelers continues to grow, particularly among Gen Z and Millennials. For several years, Virtuoso has invited travel projects with a positive impact to compete for recognition at its annual event in August. This year, more than 300 projects were submitted. Among the 2026 winners is andBeyond in Tanzania, with an initiative to restore Zanzibar’s coral reefs. More than 101 star-shaped structures have been installed there to accelerate reef recovery, revitalize marine life, and train local teams in conservation. Guests can also take an active role in the initiative. Nomadic Expeditions was another winner for its initiative to revive Mongolia’s tradition of eagle falconry. Since 1999, it has worked to foster interest in this cultural tradition among younger generations through a festival. At the outset, only around a dozen falconers remained; today, there are more than 300. Wilderness in Botswana was recognized for developing a program that supports local livestock farmers who adopt practices designed to protect wildlife. By creating a certified supply chain, farmers who embrace best practices receive higher and faster payments, enabling local meat suppliers to coexist while helping conserve the area’s lion population. The Dubrovnik Tourist Board won for its Respect the City initiative, designed to prevent excesive tourism. Through comprehensive planning of visitor arrivals, the city has succeeded in restoring residents’ quality of life while preserving its heritage. The Dubrovnik Pass helps manage which places travelers visit, at what times, and in what numbers. Revenue generated by the Pass supports cultural institutions and heritage restoration. The pride and passion with which local teams create these projects is inspiring and demonstrates a genuine desire to develop better practices, so that travelers can visit remote and memorable places responsibly. The luxury travel industry is increasingly aware of its impact, and as travelers, it is up to us to make good decisions: to do our research, seek expert advice, and look deeper so that we can choose more thoughtful options and companies that demonstrate a genuine commitment.

Ten years after making its commitment to preventing this crime, Aeromexico and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) presented the study “Overview of Human Trafficking in Mexico’s Tourism Sector”. The research examines, for the first time, the link between this crime and tourism activity in Mexico City, Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta. Hotels, restaurants, airports, terminals, and short-term rentals booked through digital platforms are among the blind spots in a chain characterized by mobility and informal employment.

Pulp: What Do You Do for an Encore? chronicles the British band’s return to the stage and the story behind one of Britpop’s most iconic groups. We spoke to Gareth Jennings, the documentary’s director, to discover what lies behind this nostalgia-filled portrait.

what do you think about the younger elements of the crowd at the pulp concerts, many of them are not older than twenty years old...

gareth jennings: It was amazing seeing the crowd, especially at the front, because they’re the ones who’ve been there all day. There was such a wonderful mix of ages from different parts of the world. It was a reminder of the reason why we’re all here. It’s not just some nostalgia fest, I mean, there is nostalgia, but it’s about how we love this band and how it feels to be in a room with them, and with all these other people singing along. It has managed to transcend generations.

What’s your own personal relationship with Pulp? GJ: It goes back to when I left art school with two of my friends. We set up a production company to make music videos, super low budget. We were just getting started. But Pulp gave us a sort of a shot at doing something. I pitched an idea to Jarvis for the song Help the Aged which in the nutshell was a stand a stair lift to heaven. Based on the kind of aesthetic from the Powell and Pressburger films, he just got stuck on that and then contacted us and we met with him and then that’s where it started. Then we did another video for a song called Little Soul. And we just remained in contact over the years and he would send me playlists and things. I’m living in France because I’m working on animated films over here and he was living in France also, so we were just sort of bumping into each other a bit. So it started way back, but it’s been sort of bubbling away for decades.

When did the idea to make this film start? I suppose it started initially with you directing the live shows. GJ: Yeah, but the thing was a bit of an accident. In 2022, I heard a rumour that they were going on tour. And I texted him and said, “Could I film you?” He responded, “Would you direct the live shows as well and help me build the set for it all?”. And then I ended up designing sets and stuff and pitching it to the band. And at the same time thinking, “Okay, we’re going to film this”. And then realizing, “Oh, it needs to have a documentary element to it”.

By making this film, do you think your role was to kind of explain just how singular this band was? GJ: I think my role is to share, try and capture how much I love this band and, hopefully, that would be infectious. It’s the same when you do a music video: you aren’t just trying to do a cool thing, you’re trying to say “I love this song”, and I’m going to make visuals so other people also go “Oh, I love that” too.

Did Jarvis sort of write with you the script? GJ: I’d say the first half he’d already written in some form with the book. For the second half, I would do a first draft and go “this kind of thing here, funny line goes here”. And then Jarvis would then take that and obviously not just make it his own but make it fabulous.

What was your favorite moment in the film? GJ: Sometimes you can work on things and when you finish you feel a bit flat or exhausted by it. For me, the most important thing is how you feel at the very end. So, yeah. The thing I love the most is how the whole thing wraps up.

SkyTeam

have you heard of the aviation challenge (tac)? this global skyteam initiative is designed to help accelerate sustainable innovation and knowledge sharing across the aviation industry.

Through friendly competition, participating airlines challenge each other to reduce the impact of their operations on the environment. Each year, they test and implement solutions in key areas such as emissions reduction, energy efficiency and waste management. industry collaboration

In 2026, TAC marks five years of advancing sustainable innovation and knowledge sharing across the aviation industry. This year’s theme, Collective Momentum, reflects The Challenge’s focus on collaboration and the role of shared action in driving sustainability progress. TAC brings together airlines, sustainability leaders and global innovators to help accelerate the aviation sector’s transition toward a more sustainable future. Participating companies commit to sharing learnings and best practices to promote industry-wide change. The Challenge serves as a platform where solutions are developed, implemented, and showcased for wider adoption. driving impact

In recent editions, participants that are not part of the SkyTeam alliance have also joined, broadening the initiative’s reach. Since its launch in 2022, TAC has engaged 28 unique airlines. Collectively, these airlines have developed and implemented more than 760 solutions, from operational improvements to technological advancements, helping participants make measurable, scalable progress. Airlines compete not only to innovate but to demonstrate verifiable progress, sharing data and lessons that benefit the sector. Participants compete for awards across 21 categories, including flight operations, sustainable aviation fuels (SAF), Cargo and more, recognizing various achievements and areas of innovation. While the early editions focused on generating ideas, TAC now emphasizes putting solutions into practice—showing how they can be effectively adopted, scaled and rolled out across the wider industry. By providing a platform to test and implement solutions, The Aviation Challenge helps airlines to take meaningful steps toward more sustainable aviation. Through collaboration, competition and a shared commitment to measurable results, TAC is helping chart a course toward a more responsible future for the industry.
