Welcome to our opponents We would like to welcome our visitors from King’s College Taunton, Mount Kelly and Plymouth College to Exeter School for this weekend’s sports fixtures and look forward to some excellent matches in both rugby and hockey during an action-packed day. We also wish our junior rugby and U15 hockey team the best of luck with their away matches at Mount Kelly and Taunton Prep. Thank you to our opponents for hosting. For many of our pupils’ fixtures provide a real highlight during a busy school week. After such a long break from school sport they also offer an excellent opportunity to compete alongside teammates and friends and enjoy the camaraderie and teamwork that school sport offers. We are also delighted to welcome parents and spectators from both schools and encourage them to actively support all the pupils, regardless of their team, with equal enthusiasm and respect. We politely ask them to support today’s referees and umpires; many of whom give up their time to enable these occasions to take place. I am sure that you will enjoy watching and I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the day. FIRST AID PROVISION Today’s match day first aid is provided by Neil Davey Physiotherapy with fully qualified physiotherapy support pitch side for all matches. Physios will be clearly visible in their high visibility vest and will be on hand to support with any injuries throughout the day. All sports staff/team managers are also qualified first aiders and fully stocked first aid kits will be on pitch side. Where necessary injured players will be taken to the First Aid room located on the ground floor of the School House building (see map No 15). This will be clearly signposted on match days. In the event of an emergency an ambulance will be called, and pupils taken to hospital. The Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital is located opposite Exeter School on Barrack Road: RD&E Barrack Road, Exeter, EX2 5DW HEAD INJURY PROTOCOL Ultimately if you are unsure at any stage if a player has a head injury or is concussed you should seek medical attention. Listed below are some of the possible signs of concussion: Headaches - It is only normal after a blow to the head to suffer a mild headache. There could be some bruising or mild swelling over the scalp which may be tender, but this doesn’t necessarily mean a player has concussion.

If the headache seems to be getting worse this could be a cause for concern so seek medical attention. Drowsiness - Means they cannot be roused. It can be common for players to want to sleep for a short time (especially children), and it will be okay to let them do so. If there are further concerns you can wake them a few times during the night, especially if a knock on the head has happened just before bedtime. If, on the other hand, they are difficult to wake or show signs of confusion, seek medical attention. Other Symptoms Confusion, unsteadiness, memory loss and convulsiveness. If players show any signs of the above, they should seek medical attention. These are merely guidelines so please remember signs and symptoms could take up to 48 hours to develop and should be monitored. Exeter School takes all head injuries seriously and all members of PE staff are first aid trained and follow the RFU Headcase protocol if a pupils sustains a head injury. In serious cases students would be referred to a local hospital (listed at the beginning of the programme) as they would with any other serious injury.

Catering and Parking Tea and coffee will be available for parents before the match in the entrance to the dining hall (rugby) and tea hut (hockey) and again after the match in the Butterfield Hall. Players and staff will be provided with a hot meal in the dining hall after their fixtures.
PARKING We ask that all parents use the main car park located by the schools astro. Access to this car park can be found on Victoria Park Road by the cricket pavilion. Parents dropping off or picking up pupils from away fixtures can do so from the Mantson Terrace entrance and should do so from the turning circle. No parking, with the exception of opposition coaches, will be available in the quad or surrounding areas on Saturdays.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES Exeter School is delighted to introduce a new range of scholarships to complement its bursaries and free places.
9 and Year 12, thanks to donations and legacies from former pupils and grants from a local charity.
Scholarships are available at 11+, 13+ and 16+ for pupils who show excellence in art, drama, music, and sport.
All applications for support for the year 2021/22 must be received by 7 January 2022. The assessment process will include a home visit. As a general guide, gross parental income will need to be below £60,000 p.a. to allow consideration for a bursary.
Academic scholarships for pupils new to the co-educational independent school are awarded based on the results of the entrance assessments sat in January of the year of entry.
