The USA midterm elections: an overview
LCOHOL and noise-related offences have declined since 2016 during Freshers’ Week and Week 1 in heavily student-populated areas, but drug offences have increased by a small amount, figures from Devon & Cornwall Police show. This change - coming in spite of an increase in student numbers (by several hundred) across these three years at both St Luke’s and Streatham Campuses - corresponds with the introduction of D&C Police’s ‘Know Your Boundaries’ scheme, set up to reduce anti-social behaviour. The figures, which were obtained through a Freedom of Information request, show an overall decrease in the offence of ‘drunk and disorderly in a public place’ in the areas of Exeter City Centre and the St. James Ward. These areas contain a large student presence,
particularly during Freshers’ Week however it should be noted that these statistics also include offences by nonstudents. The decrease in Exeter City Centre is especially striking, since in this zone, the ‘Know Your Boundaries’ scheme was particularly active.
