Stunt casting: a comedy of errors?

FIRST it was Love Island’s Laura Whitmore; now X-Factor judge Cheryl Cole has been cast in 2:22 A Ghost Story on the West End. Both women come from a background of being on TV, but this is common for stunt casting (that is, celebrities being cast because of their status and ability to sell tickets). A West End musical offers the ease of being able to hide behind the music and big ensemble numbers; however, 2:22 A Ghost Story is a play. A play provides less opportunity to be concealed; if the acting is bad, there is no music to hide behind.
