Dear friends and readers, August has just arrived, and with it, the joy, hopeful anticipation and happiness of having the well-deserved holiday we all long for. However, this August comes after a time of sadness and unease, due to a pandemic that we have all had to live through, and which is still among us. For this reason, I would urge caution and maximum protection, and remind you not to let your guard down, even for a second, as we are all exposed to this virus.

I sincerely hope you all remain unaffected, even indirectly, by all this. I would just like to say that we will emerge even stronger, so keep moving forward, have fun and be happy, and don’t forget that even the darkest night comes to an ends with the sunrise.

A graduate in medicine from the University of Cordoba, 1983, she has held the position of Mayor of Marbella from the 2007 elections until today, except for a two-year hiatus (2015-2017) when she did not govern, despite obtaining a majority. She has been a member of the Andalusian parliament, and MP and senator for Malaga in different legislatures, a position she currently holds, after the 2019 general elections. She has also held the position of president of the Andalusian Federation of Local Councils and Provinces, and of the Spanish Network of Cities for the Climate.

Today we are with Mª Ángeles Muñoz after this unexpected pandemic: as the Mayor of Marbella, and after 11 years in office, who better to clarify all the measures of protection and economic recovery after the impact of the Covid-19?

ble, and we prepared two municipal buildings, the Antonio Serrano Lima sports centre in Marbella and the Elena Benítez sports centre in San Pedro Alcántara, for the homeless. We also reinforced the cleaning and disinfection of streets, establishments and especially sensitive areas, such as nursing homes for elderly people, where rapid detection tests were also carried out; we promoted this type of test on employees who were performing essential services, as well as on those who were gradually returning to their workplaces, and we recently distributed, free of charge, 100,000 masks donated by the United Arab Emirates to the general population throughout the different districts. I believe that this is effective management, which will enable the city to emerge even stronger from this crisis.

Good morning, Maria Ángeles, As always, we have seen you working non-stop, getting involved in every sector, providing help, and seeing in situ what problems the public health service is undergoing, and companies are facing firsthand.

We have no doubt that Marbella is a world reference in tourism, but in Marbella now, after this crisis, there are still many open questions that we would appreciate your comments on.

Marbella has very exclusive hotels and an enviable climate all year round, wonderful beaches and the aesthetics of a city of great iconic beauty that over so many years has captivated celebrities from the world of cinema, music... What is it about Marbella that you like so much?

Why do you think that, despite the Covid-19, Marbella will resurge much sooner than we might think?

Marbella is one of the most important tourist destinations in the world, and we are convinced that it will maintain this position. We are working together with the Malaga Provincial Council and the Andalusian Regional Government in the Great Tourist City plan, which will allow us to improve our competitiveness as a first class destination, and we are working to obtain the ‘Safe Tourism Certified’ seal. Marbella has always responded in a very resourceful way to the challenges it has been presented with and I am sure that, once again, we will turn the challenges into opportunities for growth.

Having started the year 2020 in this way will have presented a new, complicated challenge of restoring the stability and international credibility of your security management with regard to tourism. Tell us about those first moments, how did you live them, and what were the first steps you took?

From the first moment we understood that, like all the administrations, we were facing a complex situation, a challenge of an unknown magnitude. It was essential to give the citizens a rapid response, both on a social and economic level, and to try to guarantee the security of the population in the face of an unprecedented health crisis. For this reason, we activated an ambitious socio-economic emergency plan to deal with the effects of the pandemic, with the top priority of meeting the needs of all those who were in a vulnerable situation, and of promoting the creation and maintaining of employment, by protecting the city’s small and medium-sized enterprises. To this end, we allocated 130 million euros to economic recovery, using all the resources available to us. We also implemented various measures destined to the most vulnera-

In the real estate sector, this situation has led to some uncertainty, however, in Andalusia, a series of measures have been taken to cushion the impact, while at the same time favouring investment. Tell us, for those investors who might harbour some degree of doubt, what do these measures consist of, and what is going to be done in our city in this respect?

As I mentioned, the objective from the beginning has been to try to alleviate the effects of the pandemic with actions aimed at economic reactivation. This package of measures has included the EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 21

elimination of taxes on the use of public roads; the application of a 25% bonus of the IBI (immovable property tax) on properties related to leisure, the hotel industry, commercial or industrial property that can prove the maintenance of their staff during this year, and 50% bonus of the Tax on Economic Activities (IAE) for the same sectors; the subsidy of the Tax on Constructions and Installations on premises that this type of activities want to restore, modify or accommodate, and the maintenance of 50% bonus of the IBI for large families. All procedures for seizure and execution of tax debts in the enforcement process have also been suspended, and the deadlines for deferment have been extended. In addition, we have paid out fifteen million in the supplier payment plan. Other important measures in this area have been halving the urban planning procedures, and the initiative of 90 training courses for unemployed people in the city, with an allocation of more than 4 million euros. We must all work together, both public institutions and the private sector, to move forward with the maximum security, in order to continue being a benchmark for excellence. We are, and I will never tire of saying this, the ideal destination to visit, live and invest in. This has been seen by some of the world’s leading hotel chains that have projects underway to open exclusive establishments in Marbella, such as Four Seasons, Club Med or W. And, within the real estate sector, it is worth highlighting Warren Buffet’s recent commitment to Marbella to boost its expansion.

We understand that several developers would be very interested in building skyscrapers in Marbella, emblematic buildings, like those to be found in London, New York... Do you think that one day we will be able to see projects like this in our city?

At the moment we are immersed in the elaboration of the new Urban Development Plan of Marbella (PGOU), which will include the development of the municipality for the next few years, and which will fundamentally promote a garden city; green and sustainable. For its drafting, we are going to count on citizen participation beyond what is established in the regulations, because we want it to be a planning with which all residents can feel identified. The future of the city will be what the citizens themselves want.

What about the project of Puerto of La Bajadilla, will it finally be carried out?

The firm commitment of the Andalusian Government is that Marbella will have a new nautical area that meets the expectations our city deserves, and the Public Agency of Ports of Andalusia is working so that the project can go ahead with all the guarantees. In the meantime, important improvements are being promoted in the port to modernise the marina, such as the construction of new promenades and parking spaces, an initiative in collaboration with the Andalusian Government with an investment of more than one million euros, which aims to open up the fishing port to the city. A new ice factory is also being built, 22

thus satisfying a longstanding demand of the Marbella Fishermen’s Association.

We consider that a commitment to promoting art and culture on behalf of the Town Council is a secure value for prosperity and to attract international tourism to the Costa del Sol. Are there any council projects focused on this purpose?

We are convinced that art and culture are, without doubt, elements that enrich our range of proposals to attract tourism. Among the main short-term projects we are promoting in this area are the construction of a new library in the centre of Marbella, which will provide the city with one of the most important cultural spaces in the province, and a new Municipal School of Music and Dance in San Pedro Alcántara, a project that has already been put out to tender, and which will be carried out on a plot of more than 3,200 square metres in the southern area. In addition, we have undertaken the construction of a new site for the Official School of Languages, which will be operational during the next academic year.

I would like you to tell us the most important points of the campaign that has been launched

I CAN’T THINK OF A BETTER PLACE TO GET MY STRENGTH BACK THAN OUR PROMENADE OR BEACHES by the City Council “NOW IT DEPENDS ON YOU” in which it appeals to the responsibility of each individual in the fight against Covid-19.

The intention of the campaign, which we launched during the de-escalation phase, is to inform of health and hygiene containment measures, and to make people aware of the importance of taking extreme precautions. It is aimed at both the citizens of Marbella and visitors, and different channels and tools are being used to promote it, such as social networks. The aim is to remind the main actions to stop the transmission of the virus, favouring the safety and health of the citizens; such as the use of masks, hand hygiene or social distancing. These are, in short, essential recommendations for us to continue being a safe destination.

We cannot forget that Marbella is an eminently

tourist city and we have the double objective of reactivating our industry and maintaining the health of our neighbours. And as its motto says, now, more than ever, it is up to us to contain the pandemic.

What kind of measures have been, or will be taken, by Marbella Council to mitigate the effects of the Covid-19 crisis in the social aspect of the municipality?

The social aspect, as we mentioned before, has been a priority from the very beginning and we have implemented specific aid for the most vulnerable groups. As soon as the state of alarm was declared, we made the corresponding budgetary modification to triple the economic allocation for emergency aid and at the Social Rights Delegation, EXCLUSIVE LIFE MAGAZINE 23

in collaboration with other councils and social entities, a great effort was made to attend to all the needs of the most disadvantaged residents, so that nobody was left behind. In this sense, in addition to habilitating the sports halls for the homeless, 24-hour telephone monitoring of the elderly, and direct distribution or coordination for the delivery of food, we have launched initiatives such as a Food Guarantee Plan to distribute more than 660 meals a day to Infant and Primary School pupils, or a money card for the most vulnerable, so that they can purchase basic food and personal hygiene products in local supermarkets. It is endowed, through a non-recurring subsidy, with 183,000 euros. It will be developed by the Association DYA and is an initiative that La Caixa Foundation has already joined, with an allocation of 30,000 euros, and we hope that many more entities will join this program.

Changing the subject, what, apart from your work, is your main hobby?

Well, working as mayor leaves me little time, but in my spare time, I try to enjoy the company of my family, watching series or having meals together. I also like to enjoy reading a good book or taking a walk through some of the fantastic spots our city has to offer. I cannot think of a better place to get my strength back than our promenade, our beaches, or the excellent leisure and restaurant establishments in Marbella, which offer unbeatable service.

With the complicated agenda that you have as Mayor of Marbella on the one hand, and as Senator for the province of Malaga in the Senate (Madrid) on the other, how do you manage to disconnect?

As I said, being Mayor of Marbella requires full dedication, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is a great responsibility that leaves few moments to disconnect, but believe me, it does not weigh on me; I feel extremely fortunate to be able to represent this great city and that its residents have given me their majority support.

Who do you admire, and what do you value most in a person?

Sometimes you don’t have to look very far for your role models. In my case, mine are, without a doubt, my parents. I have learned such important values as integrity, honesty and humanity from them. My father was a fundamental influence and even today, although he is unfortunately no longer with us, he continues to be because of the impact he made on me. And my mother is my best friend and my greatest adviser.

In your political and professional life, you have met great celebrities, could you tell me who has made the biggest impression on you, and why?

I really could not say just one. Of all the people I have met throughout my life, not only professional but also personal, I have learned, or been taught something, and I feel very fortunate for that. They did not have to be great public figures. Before my political career, as a doctor, I also had the opportunity to serve many, many neighbours and enjoy this very enriching side of public service.

You are the Mayoress of Marbella with an absolute majority, why do you think so many citizens love you and vote for you, year after year?

Since I was elected Mayoress in 2007, among my priorities are that Marbella continues to be a reference point in terms of tourist excellence, a cosmopolitan, open, sustainable and innovative city, with a unique range of proposals in sport, leisure, culture and gastronomy. But, above all, my commitment is to the residents, to attend to their needs, to respond to their demands, both in the daily improvement of their neighbourhoods and their residential complexes, and in the generation of employment, opportunities and prosperity. In short, to improve the quality of life of the citizens of Marbella. When we took over the management of the municipality, the economic situation was very complicated, but we managed to turn it around. Now, we are facing a new challenge caused by the Covid-19 crisis, but I am convinced that we have the resources to overcome it and emerge even stronger. I am very grateful to the residents of Marbella for the trust they have placed in us for all these years and we will continue working to prove ourselves worthy of it once again.

Have you read any good books lately? Or a film you have seen recently?

I have just finished the Trilogía del Baztán, by Dolores Redondo, which I enjoyed very much because of its pace, and the mystery and suspense of the three books. As for television, ‘The Good Wife’, a series that I thought was great at the time, and now I have watched it again.

Entrevista a la Alcaldesa de Marbella

Licenciada en Medicina por la Universidad de Córdoba en 1983, ocupa el cargo de alcaldesa de Marbella desde las elecciones de 2007 hasta hoy, salvo un paréntesis de dos años (2015-2017) en los que no gobernó a pesar de obtener la mayoría. Ha sido parlamentaria andaluza y diputada nacional y senadora por Málaga en distintas legislaturas, cargo que ostenta en la actualidad tras las elecciones generales de 2019. Ha desempeñado además el cargo de presidenta de la Federación Andaluza de Municipios y Provincias y de la Red Española de Ciudades por el Clima.

Nos encontramos hoy con Dª Mª Ángeles Muñoz tras esta inesperada pandemia. Como alcaldesa de Marbella y tras 11 años en el cargo, ¿quién mejor que ella para aclararnos todas las medidas de protección y reactivación económica tras el impacto del Covid-19?

Buenos días Mª Ángeles.

La hemos visto, como siempre, sin parar de trabajar, implicándose con todos los sectores para ayudar y ver cuál es la problemática sanitaria in situ y

de las empresas, de primera mano. No dudamos de que Marbella es todo un referente turístico a nivel mundial, pero en Marbella ahora, tras esta crisis, quedan muchos interrogantes que nos gustaría que compartiera con nosotros.

Empezar el año 2020 así le habrá supuesto un reto nuevo y complicado para devolver la estabilidad y la credibilidad internacional de su gestión de la seguridad a nivel turístico. Cuéntenos sobre esos primeros momentos, ¿cómo los vivió y cuales han sido sus primeros pasos?

Desde el primer momento entendimos que, como todas las administraciones, nos enfrentábamos a una situación compleja, a un desafío de una magnitud desconocida. Era necesario dar una respuesta ágil y rápida a los ciudadanos, tanto a nivel social como económico, y tratar de garantizar la seguridad de la población ante una crisis sanitaria sin precedentes. Por esta razón, activamos un ambicioso plan de emergencia socioeconómica que permitiera hacer frente a los efectos de la pandemia con el objetivo prioritario de atender las necesidades de todos aquellos que se encontraban en

una situación delicada y de fomentar la creación y mantenimiento de empleo, protegiendo a las pequeñas y medianas empresas de la ciudad. Para ello destinamos 130 millones de euros a la reactivación económica utilizando todos los recursos de los que podíamos disponer. También implementamos diversas medidas destinadas a las personas más vulnerables y habilitamos dos espacios municipales, el polideportivo Antonio Serrano Lima en Marbella y el Palacio de Deportes Elena Benítez de San Pedro Alcántara, para las personas sin hogar.

También reforzamos la limpieza y desinfección de calles, establecimientos y puntos especialmente sensibles, como las residencias de mayores, donde también se llevaron a cabo test de detección rápida; impulsamos la realización de este tipo de test a los empleados que realizaban servicios esenciales, así como a los que se fueron incorporando paulatinamente, y recientemente hemos repartido, de forma gratuita, 100.000 mascarillas donadas por los Emiratos Árabes a la población general a través de los distintos distritos. Creo que está siendo una gestión eficaz que permitirá a la ciudad salir reforzada de esta crisis.

Y, dentro del sector inmobiliario, cabe destacar la reciente apuesta por Marbella por parte de Warren Buffet para impulsar su expansión.

el destino ideal para visitar, vivir e invertir” Marbella tiene hoteles muy exclusivos y un clima envidiable durante todo el año, maravillosas playas y la estética de una ciudad de gran belleza icónica que a lo largo de tantos años, ha cautivado a grandes personalidades del cine, de la música… ¿Qué tiene Marbella que tanto gusta?, ¿por qué cree que, a pesar del Covid-19, Marbella levantará cabeza mucho antes de lo que pensábamos?

Marbella es uno de los destinos turísticos más importantes del mundo y estamos convencidos de que va a seguir manteniendo ese posicionamiento.

Estamos trabajando junto a la Diputación de Málaga y la Junta de Andalucía en el plan Gran Ciudad Turística, que permitirá mejorar nuestra competitividad como destino de primer orden, y hemos impulsando la obtención del sello ‘Safe Tourism Certified’. Marbella siempre se ha repuesto de una manera muy inteligente a los retos que se le han planteado y estoy segura de que, una vez más, vamos a convertir los desafíos en oportunidades de crecimiento.

En el sector inmobiliario esta situación ha creado una cierta incertidumbre, sin embargo, en Andalucía, se han tomado una serie de medidas para amortiguar el impacto y de paso favorecer la inversión. Cuéntenos de primera mano para aquellos inversores que pudieran albergar algún tipo 26

de duda, ¿en qué consisten estas medidas y que se va a hacer en nuestra ciudad en este sentido?

Como le comentaba, el objetivo desde un principio ha sido tratar de paliar los efectos de la pandemia con acciones orientadas a la reactivación económica. Ese paquete de medidas ha incluido la eliminación de las tasas de aprovechamientos de la vía pública; la aplicación de una bonificación del 25% del IBI sobre los inmuebles vinculados al ocio, la hostelería, el comercial o el industrial que acrediten el mantenimiento de sus plantillas durante este año y de un 50% al Impuesto de Actividades Económicas (IAE) a los mismos sectores; la subvención del impuesto de Construcciones e Instalaciones a locales que quieran restaurar, modificar o albergar este tipo de actividades y el mantenimiento de bonificaciones del IBI, de un 50%, a las familias numerosas. También se han suspendido todos los procedimientos de embargos y ejecución por deudas tributarias en la vía ejecutiva y se han ampliado los plazos de aplazamiento en la misma. Además, abonamos quince millones dentro del plan de pago a proveedores. Otras medidas importantes en este ámbito han sido la reducción a la mitad de los trámites urbanísticos y el impulso de 90 cursos de formación para desempleados de la ciudad con una partida de más de 4 millones de euros. Debemos trabajar todos juntos, tanto las instituciones públicas como el sector privado, para avanzar con

Tenemos entendido que varios promotores estarían muy interesados en levantar rascacielos en Marbella, edificios emblemáticos de diseño tipo Londres, Nueva York… ¿Cree que algún día podremos ver proyectos así en nuestra ciudad?

En estos momentos estamos inmersos en la elaboración del nuevo Plan de Ordenación Urbanística de Marbella (PGOU), en el que se recogerá el desarrollo del municipio para los próximos años y que fundamentalmente apostará por una ciudad jardín, verde y sostenible. Para su redacción vamos a contar con la participación ciudadana más allá de lo que establece la normativa, porque queremos que sea un planeamiento con el que se sientan identificados todos los vecinos. El futuro de la ciudad será el que los propios ciudadanos quieran. ¿Qué se sabe del proyecto del Puerto de La Bajadilla?, ¿se va a poder llevar a cabo finalmente?

El compromiso firme de la Junta de Andalucía es que Marbella cuente con un nuevo recinto náutico a la altura de lo que se merece nuestra ciudad y desde la Agencia Pública de Puertos de Andalucía se está trabajando para que el proyecto pueda salir adelante con todas las garantías. Entretanto, se están impulsando importantes mejoras en el puerto para modernizar la marina, como la construcción de nuevos paseos y plazas de aparcamiento, una iniciativa en colaboración con la Junta de Andalucía que cuenta con una inversión de más de un millón de euros y que pretende abrir el puerto pesquero a la ciudad. También se está ejecutando una nueva fábrica de hielo, una actuación que da respuesta por fin a una antigua reivindicación de la Cofradía de Pescadores de Marbella.

Consideramos que una apuesta para potenciar el arte y la cultura desde el Ayuntamiento es un valor seguro para la prosperidad y para la atracción turística internacional a la Costa del Sol. ¿Hay algún proyecto municipal enfocado a este fin?

Estamos convencidos de que el arte y la cultura son, sin lugar a dudas, elementos de atracción turística que enriquecen nuestra oferta. Entre los principales proyectos a corto plazo que estamos impulsando en este ámbito destacan la construcción de una nueva biblioteca en pleno centro urbano de Marbella, que dotará a la ciudad de uno de los espacios culturales más importantes de la provincia, y de una nueva Escuela Municipal de Músi-

ca y Danza en San Pedro Alcántara, una obra que ya se ha sacado a licitación y que se llevará a cabo en una parcela de más de 3.200 metros cuadrados en la zona sur. Además, hemos acometido la construcción de una nueva sede de la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas, que entrará en funcionamiento durante el próximo curso.

Me gustaría que nos exponga los puntos más importantes de la campaña que se ha puesto en marcha desde el Ayuntamiento “AHORA DEPENDE DE TI” en la que se apela a la responsabilidad individual para la lucha frente al Covid-19.

La intención de la campaña, que pusimos en marcha en la fase de desescalada, es informar de las medidas de contención higiénico-sanitarias y concienciar de la importancia de extremar las precauciones. Está destinada tanto a los ciudadanos de Marbella como a los visitantes y se están utilizando diferentes canales y herramientas para su difusión, como las redes sociales. Se trata de recordar las principales acciones para frenar la transmisión del virus, favoreciendo la seguridad y salud de la ciudadanía, como el uso de las mascarillas, la higiene de manos o la distancia de seguridad. Son, en suma, recomendaciones imprescindibles para que sigamos siendo un destino seguro. No podemos olvidar que Marbella es una ciudad eminentemente turística y tenemos el doble objetivo de reactivar nuestra industria y mantener la salud de nuestros vecinos. Y como bien dice su lema, ahora, más que nunca, depende de nosotros contener la pandemia. ¿Qué tipo de medidas se han tomado o se van a tomar desde el Ayuntamiento de Marbella para mitigar los efectos ocasionados por la crisis del Covid-19 en el ámbito social en el municipio?

El ámbito social, como comentábamos antes, ha sido una prioridad desde el primer momento y hemos implantado ayudas específicas para los colectivos más vulnerables. Nada más decretarse el estado de alarma hicimos la correspondiente modificación presupuestaria para triplicar la partida económica destinada a ayudas de emergencia y desde la Delegación de Derechos Sociales, en colaboración con otras concejalías y con entidades sociales, se realizó un gran esfuerzo para atender todas las necesidades de los vecinos más desfavorecidos, para que nadie se quedara atrás. En este sentido, además de la habilitación de los pabellones deportivos para las personas sin hogar, el seguimiento telefónico las 24 horas del día a nuestros mayores y el reparto directo o la coordinación para la entrega de alimentos, hemos puesto en marcha iniciativas como un Plan de Garantía Alimentaria para distribuir más de 660 comidas diarias entre alumnos de Infantil y Primaria, o una tarjeta monedero destinada a los colectivos más vulnerables con el objetivo de que puedan adquirir en supermercados de proximidad alimentos de primera necesidad y productos de higiene personal. Está

dotada, a través de una subvención extraordinaria, con 183.000 euros y la desarrollará la Asociación DYA y es una iniciativa a la que se ha sumado ya Fundación La Caixa, con una partida de 30.000 euros, y esperamos que sean muchas más las entidades que se adhieran a este programa.

Cambiando de tema, ¿cuál es, al margen de su trabajo, su principal hobby?

Bueno, el trabajo como alcaldesa me deja poco tiempo, pero en mis ratos libres busco disfrutar de la compañía de mi familia, viendo alguna serie o comiendo juntos. También me gusta disfrutar de la lectura de un buen libro o dar un paseo por alguno de los fantásticos rincones que tiene nuestra ciudad. No se me ocurre un lugar mejor para reponer fuerzas que nuestro Paseo Marítimo, nuestras playas o los excelentes establecimientos de ocio y restauración de Marbella, que ofrecen un servicio inmejorable.

Con la complicada agenda que tiene como alcaldesa de Marbella por un lado y como senadora por la provincia de Málaga en el Senado (Madrid) por otro, ¿cómo consigue desconectar?

Como le decía, ser alcaldesa de Marbella requiere de una dedicación plena, de 24 horas al día los 365 días del año. Es una gran responsabilidad que deja pocos momentos para desconectar pero créame que no me pesa; me siento plenamente afortunada de poder representar a esta gran ciudad y de que sus vecinos me hayan dado su apoyo mayoritario.

Es la alcaldesa de Marbella con mayoría absoluta, ¿por qué cree que la quieren y la votan tantos ciudadanos, año tras año?

Desde que fui elegida como alcaldesa en el año 2007, entre mis prioridades se encuentran que Marbella siga siendo un referente en materia de excelencia turística, una ciudad cosmopolita, abierta, sostenible e innovadora, con una oferta complementaria única en el deporte, el ocio, la cultura, la gastronomía. Pero, sobre todo, mi compromiso es con los vecinos, atender sus necesidades, dar respuesta a sus demandas, tanto en el ámbito diario de mejoras de sus barrios y sus urbanizaciones, como en lo que respecta a generar empleo, oportunidades y riqueza. Mejorar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos de Marbella, en definitiva. Cuando asumimos la gestión municipal, la situación económica era muy complicada, pero conseguimos sanearla. Ahora nos enfrentamos a un nuevo reto originado por la crisis del Covid-19, pero estoy convencida de que contamos con los recursos para superarlo y salir fortalecidos. Yo estoy muy agradecida a los vecinos de Marbella por la confianza que nos han brindado durante todos estos años y vamos a seguir trabajando para volver a ser merecedores de ella. ¿Está leyendo algún libro últimamente? ¿Y alguna película que haya visto recientemente?

He terminado hace poquito la Trilogía del Baztán, de Dolores Redondo, que me ha gustado mucho por su ritmo y por el misterio y el suspense de los tres libros. En cuanto a televisión, he revisado ‘The Good Wife’, una serie que me pareció estupenda en su momento y que ahora he vuelto a ver.

¿A quien admira?, ¿qué es lo que más valora en una persona?

A veces, los referentes no hay que buscarlos muy lejos. En mi caso, los míos son, sin duda alguna, mis padres. De ellos he aprendido valores tan importantes como la integridad, la honestidad y la humanidad. Mi padre fue un pilar fundamental y aún hoy, pese a que desgraciadamente ya no está con nosotros, lo sigue siendo por la impronta que dejó. Y mi madre es mi mejor amiga y mi gran consejera.

En su vida política y profesional habrá conocido a grandes personalidades, ¿podría decirme quien le ha impactado más y por qué?

Realmente no podría quedarme solo con una. De todas las personas que he conocido a lo largo de mi vida, no solo de la profesional sino también de la personal, he aprendido algo o me han enseñado algo y me siento muy afortunada por ello. No es necesario que hayan sido grandes personalidades públicas.

Antes de mi trayectoria política, como médico también tuve la oportunidad de atender a muchísimos vecinos y disfrutar de este lado tan enriquecedor del servicio público.

Brought up in Marbella, Jorge is educated as an architect in the Universidad Politecnica de Madrid, returning to the Costa del Sol at the end of 2002 to join the prestigious architecture practice MS Design where, during his studies, he had performed some summer stages and where he will begin his formation as an architect adopting the compromise with quality in design and execution that distinguishes this practice.

At the end of 2003, he will establish his own practice as a team with technical architect Vicente Ruiz Fernรกndez, with the target of specializing in high-end residential projects, dedicating all the necessary time and efforts to care and pamper each home, both in the design and the building phases, with the vocation of architecture craftsmen.

He will cross paths with prominent norwegian project manager, Svein Finstad, and together they will develop several relevant villa projects in Marbella, Norway and Domenican Republic. From Svein he will adopt the high levels of demands in quality and finishings and the tight control of the project from all perspectives and scales, from the most general to the smallest details, from the more pragmatic decissions to the importance of the design and, always, with the clear target that the ultimate objective of our craft is to create a real home to the measure of the family who will inhabit it.

Tras pasar su infancia en Marbella, Jorge se forma como arquitecto en la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, volviendo a la Costa del Sol a finales de 2002 para incorporarse al prestigioso estudio de arquitectura MS Design donde, durante la carrera, había realizado varias prácticas estivales y en el que comienza su aprendizaje en el oficio de arquitecto e interioriza el compromiso con la calidad en el diseño y ejecución que caracteriza a este estudio.

We met with Mrs. Smadar Kahana, the owner of Engel & Völkers Marbella, one of the world’s leading companies in high end real estate.

First of all we would like you to tell us about your company Engel & Völkers E&V is a worldwide robust lifestyle real estate brand with additional department units such as aviation and yachting, serving mainly top end clientele. With over 800 offices around the world, in the best prime locations, E&V is today one of the world’s leading companies in the marketing and sale of mid to high-end real estate. More than 12.000 professionals are working under this brand.

The group also has an exclusive department, our PRIVATE OFFICE which deals and serves discreetly some of the world’s wealthier clientele.

Among our clients, you will find names such as Estee Lauder, George Clooney, Britney Spears, 54

and Claudia Schiffer, to mention but a few.

How did you get started in the real estate business?

Back in Germany, I was the international marketing director of Sixt Rent A Car, which is considered the most sophisticated company in Germany in terms of marketing. When I came to Marbella, E&V contacted me to do marketing in Spain for them. After one year in this position, in 2005 after realising the great opportunity of expanding with the brand, I bought my first license of E&V for the area of Marbella East and then, little by little, bought all the available licenses for Marbella, leaving me today with 5 licenses and 4 offices in Marbella itself and planning to open the 5th later this year.

What do you think are your strengths?

Making dreams come true! On top of my 15 years

of vast successful experience in the Marbella market, I have the ability to understand and analyse the market and the trends well in advance, and therefore, can be very quick in planning and reacting.

How would you define the current state of the real estate world after Covid19?

Contrary to some of my colleagues here that were predicting a downtrend in the market, I was quite sure that Marbella would show once again its strength as a safe place; not only in terms of the standard of living, especially in a lockdown period, but also in terms of a good investment market.

The reality so far is that the real estate market in Marbella has remained stable, and in fact, what we are seeing is an increase in the number of inquiries from clients who want to now buy a villa or a nice flat in a green urbanisation and to have a

safe place in Marbella in case of another lockdown situation or if the spread of the epidemic happens again as many are concerned it will. Many of these clients are looking for larger, well-equipped properties with outdoor facilities such as gardens and swimming pools, especially as Marbella (and Andalucía as a whole) had a very low infection rate; one of the lowest in Europe.

The same advice that I always give - buy only in a prime location and at the right price! As properties in prime locations are always in demand and are less vulnerable even in times of a crisis as we saw in 2008.

How is it for you to run a company as important as Engel & Völkers?

A lot of responsibility combined with a lot of satisfaction! What we do is to serve our clients and it is great to know we are helping people to find their dream properties or sell their properties in the best way possible when they need to do so.

Which is the profile of Engel & Völkers’ customer and what are they looking for?

Usually, the clients that are coming to us directly know the brand and what to expect in terms of seriousness and professionalism. Many of these clients already bought or sold with us somewhere in the world. The clients have different demands and budgets so we cannot say what they are typically searching for. Our average selling price is around 1.5 Million Euros.

What would be your advice for all those people who want to buy at this moment?

Why do you think that investors and buyers should bet on Marbella at this moment?

Also during the Covid epidemic, Marbella has shown to be a safe place to live and as an investment. In many other places in Spain, prices have gone down, while Marbella has so far maintained the value of the properties. Marbella offers a fantastic lifestyle that you cannot find anywhere else in Europe, and attracts and will keep on attracting buyers from all over Europe. I believe that especially after the Covid crisis, many people have realized the advantages of working remotely and the possibility of living here while continuing running their businesses elsewhere.

What is customer service for you, both for buyers and sellers?

Nos reunimos con la Sra. Smadar Kahana, propietaria de Engel & Völkers Marbella, una de las empresas líderes en el mundo en propiedades inmobiliarias de alta gama.

En primer lugar nos gustaría que nos hablara de su empresa Engel & Völkers E&V es una marca inmobiliaria de estilo de vida, robusta en todo el mundo, con unidades adicionales de departamentos como aviación y yates, sirviendo principalmente a la clientela más pudiente. Con más de 800 oficinas en todo el mundo, en las mejores ubicaciones, E&V es hoy una de las compañías líderes en el mundo en la comercialización y venta de propiedades inmobiliarias de gama media y alta. Más de 12.000 profesionales trabajan bajo esta marca. El grupo también tiene un departamento exclusivo, nuestra OFICINA PRIVADA que trata y sirve discretamente a algunos de los clientes más ricos del mundo. Entre nuestros clientes, se encuentran nombres como Estee Lauder, George Clooney, Britney Spears, y Claudia Schiffer, por mencionar sólo unos pocos. ¿Cómo se inició en el negocio de las propiedades inmobiliarias?

En Alemania, fui directora de marketing internacional de Sixt Rent A Car, considerada la empresa más sofisticada de Alemania en términos de marketing. Cuando llegué a Marbella, E&V me

contactó para hacer el marketing en España para ellos. Después de un año en este puesto, en 2005, después de darme cuenta de la gran oportunidad de expandirme con la marca, compré mi primera licencia de E&V para la zona de Marbella Este y luego, poco a poco, compré todas las licencias disponibles para Marbella, dejándome hoy en día con 5 licencias y 4 oficinas en la propia Marbella y planeando abrir la 5ª a finales de este año. ¿Cuáles cree que son sus puntos fuertes? ¡Hacer que los sueños se hagan realidad! Además de mis 15 años de amplia y exitosa experiencia en el mercado de Marbella, tengo la capacidad de entender y analizar el mercado y las tendencias con mucha antelación, y por lo tanto, puedo ser muy rápida en la planificación y la reacción. ¿Cómo definiría el estado actual del mundo inmobiliario después de Covid19?

A diferencia de algunos de mis colegas aquí, que preveían una tendencia a la baja en el mercado, estaba bastante segura de que Marbella mostraría una vez más su fuerza como un lugar seguro; no sólo en términos de estilo de vida, especialmente en un período de confinamiento, sino también en términos de un buen mercado de inversión. La realidad hasta ahora es que el mercado inmobiliario de Marbella se ha mantenido estable, y de hecho, lo que estamos viendo es un aumento en

el número de consultas de clientes que quieren comprar ahora una villa o un bonito piso en una urbanización verde y tener un lugar seguro en Marbella en caso de otra situación de confinamiento o si la propagación de la epidemia vuelve a ocurrir, como a muchos les preocupa. Muchos de estos clientes están buscando propiedades más grandes y bien equipadas con instalaciones al aire libre como jardines y piscinas, especialmente porque Marbella (y Andalucía en su conjunto) ha tenido una tasa de infección muy baja; una de las más bajas de Europa. ¿Cómo es para usted dirigir una empresa tan importante como Engel & Völkers? ¡Mucha responsabilidad combinada con mucha satisfacción! Lo que hacemos es servir a nuestros clientes y es genial saber que estamos ayudando a la gente a encontrar las propiedades de sus sueños o a vender sus propiedades de la mejor manera posible cuando lo necesitan. ¿Cuál sería su consejo para todas aquellas personas que quieren comprar en este momento?

El mismo consejo que siempre doy: ¡comprar sólo en una ubicación privilegiada y al precio correcto!

Porque las propiedades en lugares privilegiados siempre están en demanda y son menos vulnerables incluso en tiempos de crisis como vimos en 2008.

Los clientes tienen diferentes necesidades y presupuestos, por lo que no podemos decir qué es lo que buscan típicamente. Nuestro precio medio de venta es de alrededor de 1,5 millones de euros. ¿Por qué cree que los inversores y compradores deberían apostar por Marbella en este momento?

También durante la epidemia de Covid, Marbella ha demostrado ser un lugar seguro para vivir y como inversión. En muchos otros lugares de España los precios han bajado, mientras que Marbella ha mantenido hasta ahora el valor de las propiedades. Marbella ofrece un fantástico estilo de vida que no se puede encontrar en ninguna otra parte de Europa, y atrae y seguirá atrayendo a compradores de toda Europa. Creo que especialmente después de la crisis de Covid, mucha gente se ha dado cuenta de las ventajas de trabajar a distancia y de la posibilidad de vivir aquí mientras siguen llevando sus negocios en otro lugar. ¿Qué es el servicio al cliente para usted, tanto para los compradores como para los vendedores?

Nuestra prioridad absoluta y la de nuestra marca en general es nuestro servicio. Todos nuestros agentes han sido formados en la Academia Inter58

nacional de E&V y dan el máximo servicio profesional, unificado en todo el mundo. Hacemos todo lo posible para ayudar a nuestros clientes en su proceso de toma de decisiones de inversión y a nuestros vendedores en la preparación de la venta y la estrategia de ventas. ¿Qué le aconsejaría a alguien que quiere vender su propiedad?

Cuando esté enfermo, busque un médico profesional, cuando venda una propiedad, busque una empresa profesional y no se sienta tentado de ir con el agente que le dé el precio de venta más alto sólo porque quiera conseguir la propiedad. Hay muchas propiedades que han estado en el mercado durante años, están sobrevaloradas y por lo tanto son invendibles. ¿Cuáles cree que son los beneficios para un vendedor que decide dar su propiedad exclusivamente a Engel & Völkers?

En primer lugar, ¿por qué en exclusiva? Darle la exclusividad a una agencia le asegura que su propiedad recibirá la mejor atención y comercialización. Design IDEAS AND TRENDS An interview with Jana Novakova, Design Director Aalto Exclusive Design

What is do you see exciting in interior design nowadays?

There has never been such an extent of choices of materials, natural or man-made available. Also, a vast variety of design styles and their modern twist have made a comeback, making interior Design nowadays very interesting, creative and joyful.

What pleases me is to see is the growth of sustainable products on the current market, the reutilization and transformation of existing objects or the growing popularity of vintage objects.

For me what is quite exciting, but, I believe a short lasting trend, is the return of art-deco, curvy shapes and pastel colors, white ball chandeliers, in current design concepts.

The long lasting trend however, will be the mixing of colors and textures with shades of white with wood, natural and man made stones (especially greys), high quality natural fabrics (such as boucle, modern wool mixes, colored linen), stucco paints.

There is no limit to originality. I am also very keen on colored glass in lamps or vases, glass is very versatile and a sustainable product.

What is a design style of AALTO? We completely adapt to the preferences of the clients, mostly contemporary or modern style, but always with some eclectic accents such as vintage looking vases or mid century armchairs…

Our preferred go to when working on a project 60

is to add splash of color in bespoke art, décor accents or lighting and keeping the structural items in neutrals. We love to dress up the walls with wall paneling, wall coverings, murals or textural paint, there is so much to gain in dressing up the walls, rather than just hanging art when a wall is too big.

In a typical AALTO project you can spot a large coffee table, nicely balanced color schemes, quality finishes and modern style aiming for a timeless look.

What have you worked on recently that stands out?

We have just finished a 5-bedroom apartment in Puente Romano in “AALTO style”, we have used luxury finishes, wood paneling, mirrors, and wall coverings to make the place cozy and warm, contrasting with light furnishing. The interior is very elegant and luxurious, perfect for a 5* catered holidays.

We are currently delivering also a very special project; it is a villa in first line in Marbella East, where the requirement of the client was to make a futuristic house. It is very light and monochromatic, the mix of eye-catching modern architecture by Gonzalo Jacobsen, luxurious finishes and quality of craftsmanship make the project outstanding.

How do you source for your projects, where do you look for inspiration?

The project for us always starts with the client’s vision for the property and existing architecture. It is very important for us to understand the client’s expectations.

From there we develop a proposal to get the most potential out of the existing space, respecting the client’s preferred style(s), color scheme, and budget adding AALTO’s knowhow. Many times we have to adjust to existing finishes, and incorporate favorite colors or art and we build on it. It is as if the design is already in the space itself and we enhance it with inspirations mostly from nature and contrasts. One leading element balances another and all together in a room has to fit like a puzzle.

We like to use contrasts of various types - raw and smooth textures, contemporary and vintage, color and proportions of patterns, masculine and feminine look, angular and lin-ear shape etc.

What would you recommend people to pay attention to when they are furnishing their holiday home?

Not to go for the current trends or try to implement all ideas at once, mixing apples and pears.

Many times clients come with images from Pinterest and magazines, which is good on one hand to understand their preferred style, but on the other hand most of the time replicating a look, most of the time doesn’t fit the space or budget. There is much more to interior design work than recreating a look from an image. As home design has picked up as one of the hot topics in social media, many people now understand that interior design is a complex process.

When you invest in a property, you also invest in its future value and in your well being while staying in it. A smart choice would be to do it as best it can be with your budget.

When people need bespoke solutions, they should entrust their project to good professionals to avoid costly mistakes or ending up with an interior not fully reaching its potential.

¿Qué es lo más emocionante del interiorismo de hoy en día?

Nunca ha habido disponibles una extensión tan grande de elecciones en tema de materiales, naturales o artificiales. Además, hoy en día hay una enorme variedad de estilos de diseño con una moderna reinvención que están volviendo a estar de moda, haciendo del diseño de interiores un mundo muy interesante, creativo y que crea mucha ilusión Lo que me fascina es la introducción y la importancia que está empezando a tener los productos sostenibles en el Mercado actual, la reutilización y transformación de objetos existentes en nuevos hitos o el crecimiento de popularidad de objetos”vintage”.

Bajo mi punto de vista y lo que me parece emocionante, aunque creo que es una tendencia de corta duración, es el retorno del Art-deco. Formas curvas y colores pastel, lámparas de arañas rediseñas con cristal opaco, son un ejemplo de esta tendencia en los diseños actuales.

Lo que es tendencia pero a larga duración, sin duda, es la mezcla de colores y texturas con tonos de blancos y madera, piedra naturales y artificiales (especialmente escala de grises), tejidos naturales de alta calidad (como boucle, mezclas de lanas, lino de color, etc.) pinturas de estuco. No existen límites en la originalidad de los detalles. También considero muy interesante el uso de colores en los vidrios, ya sea en lámparas o en objetos decorativos, el vidrio es un material muy versátil además de un producto sostenible. ¿Cómo definiría el estilo de AALTO? Nos adaptamos completamente a las preferencias y gustos de nuestros clientes, en su mayoría estilos contemporáneos o modernos, pero siempre con toques de acentos eclécticos como jarrones de aspecto vintage, o sillones mid century…

Nuestro estilo personal está en añadir a nuestros proyectos un toque de color con piezas de arte a medida, acentos de decoración o iluminación y siempre mantener los elementos principales neutrales. Nos encanta vestir las paredes con pa62

neles ( fundamentalmente mezclando materiales como madera, espejos o papeles pintados), además del uso de murales o pinturas texturizadas.

Se gana mucho más haciendo este tipo de detalles que solo colgando un cuadro de arte para vestir una pared muy grande.

En un típico Proyecto AALTO es fácil identificar una imponente mesa de centro, un equilibrio de colores y formas en los espacios, la calidad de los acabados y un estilo moderno que permanece en un ambiente atemporal.

Un elemento principal equilibra otro y todo junto en un mismo espacio empieza a encajar como si se tratase de piezas de puzles. Nos gusta utilizar contrastes de varios tipos- texturas suaves y complejas, contemporáneas y vintage, colores y proporciones de los patrones, aspectos masculinos y femeninos, formas curvas y lineales, etc.

¿Cuál destacaría de sus últimos trabajos?

Justo acabamos de terminar un apartamento de cinco dormitorios en Puente Romano con “Estilo AALTO”, hemos utilizado acabados de lujo, panelados de maderajes, espejos, revestimientos en las paredes, todo con el fin de hacer de la vivienda un lugar cálido y acogedor contrastado con muebles claros. El resultado final es un interior de lujo y muy elegante, perfecto para unas vacaciones de 5 estrellas.

Actualmente estamos terminando un Proyecto muy especial; Se trata de una villa en primera línea de playa en el este de Marbella, donde el requisito del cliente era hacer una casa futurista. Es un Proyecto con mucha luz y monocromático, es una mezcla de la llamativa arquitectura de Gonzalo Jacobsen, lujosos acabados y la calidad de la artesanía que hacen de este Proyecto algo excepcional.

¿Qué recomendación haría a una persona que esté amueblando su casa de vacaciones?

No quedarse estancado en las tendencias actuales o tratar de implementar todas las ideas a la vez, mezclando peras con manzanas. Muchas veces los clientes vienen con imágenes de redes sociales o revistas, lo que es bueno por un lado porque nos ayuda a hacernos una idea de lo que están realmente buscando en un primer momento, pero también es cierto que por otro lado, la mayoría de las veces buscan un look que no se adapta a la realidad de su espacio o presupuesto. Hay mucho más en el trabajo de un diseño de interiores que recrear un decor o una imagen. Hoy en día con las redes sociales se está subestimando la profesión de interiorista, existen tantas vías al alcance de un solo clic que hacen confundir con la realidad el verdadero trabajo que hay detrás de un Proyecto de diseño.

Cuando inviertes en una propiedad, también inviertes en su valor de futuro además de en el bienestar que te pueda proporcionar mientras la disfrutes. Una opción inteligente sería sacar el máximo partido siempre dentro de presupuesto considerado. Cuando las personas necesitan soluciones a medida, deben confiar sus proyectos a buenos profesionales para evitar posteriores errores, sobrecostes o terminar con un interior que no alcanza todo su potencial natural.

Afortunadamente hay buenos diseñadores de interiores en Marbella, y estamos humildemente orgullosos de formar parte de ellos, al servicio de nuestros clientes.

¿Dónde busca inspiración para sus proyectos?

El Proyecto para nosotros siempre comienza con la visión del cliente, lo que les gustaría encontrar en su hogar y la arquitectura existente. Es muy importante para nosotros entender desde el principio las expectativas del cliente.

A partir de ahí desarrollamos una propuesta para sacar el máximo potencial posible al espacio, siempre respetando el estilo del cliente, gama de colores y presupuesto, complementándolo con nuestros saber hacer y toques especiales. En muchas ocasiones hemos tenido que tener en cuenta acabados existentes e incorporar colores favoritos o piezas singulares y proyectar, cons-

MAISON LUMIÈRE A contemporary Moroccan home

Tangier is the meeting point of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, but it’s not just the waters that have been mixing here for centuries. Berbers, Phoenicians, Arabs, colonial powers, artists and celebrities have all left traces of their culture on the modern version of this mythical city. This Tangier apartment melds perfectly with the setting, combining ultra-modern interior design with the traditional elements of a Moroccan home.

Maison Lumière is a spacious 320 m2 corner apartment that was created by combining two separate flats in the brand-new Tanja Marina Bay development. Knocking down walls and starting from scratch UDesign completely reinvented the space turning it into a fresh contemporary home.

To reinforce the contemporary feel, UDesign chose to flood the apartment with LED lighting.

A selection of white and RGB colour schemes allows the owner to set the mood for the entire common area at the touch of a button. As far as domotic solutions go, this is a masterpiece.

After all, domotic software is only as good as the lighting and appliances that complement it and, in this case, there are about 200 metres of LED lighting and various lamps. The system can be programmed to slowly change from one colour scheme to another, creating a relaxing flow of coloured light throughout the entire apartment.

The common space revolves around a circular dining table with a eucalyptus top, custom-made by UDesign and clearly underlined by a burnt orange silk rug and Tom Dixon lights.

Mystery and depth are brought to this space with two bronze mirrors by Catellan Italia and the gorgeous Pulpo floor lamps.

While all the common areas of the apartment encourage one to roam free and socialise, the master suite is an oasis of privacy and quiet.

Consisting of a lounge, walk-in wardrobe, bathroom and bedroom itself, it’s broken down into areas by a smoked eucalyptus panel holding two TV screens and the LED fireplace.

The bed is custom-made by UDesign from off-white Nobu leather, with a Moroccan touch added by the multi-coloured Contardi pendant lamps.

Tánger es el punto de encuentro del Mar Mediterráneo y el Océano Atlántico, pero no son sólo las aguas las que se han fusionado aquí durante siglos. Bereberes, fenicios, árabes, potencias coloniales, artistas y famosos han dejado, todos ellos, huella de su cultura en la versión moderna de esta mítica ciudad. Este apartamento de Tánger se fusiona a la perfección con el entorno, combinando un diseño interior ultramoderno con los elementos tradicionales de una vivienda marroquí.

Maison Lumière es un espacioso apartamento ubicado en esquina de 320 m2 que ha sido creado agrupando dos apartamentos independientes en la urbanización de nueva promoción Tanja Marina Bay. Eliminando tabiques y comenzando desde cero, UDesign ha reinventado por completo el espacio convirtiéndolo en una flamante vivienda contemporánea.

Para reforzar la sensación de modernidad, UDesign ha optado por inundar el apartamento de iluminación LED. Una selección de patrones de color blanco y RGB que permite al propietario decidir el ambiente de toda la zona común con sólo tocar un botón. En lo referente a soluciones domóticas, esto constituye una obra maestra. Al fin y al cabo, la calidad del software domótico en realidad se basa en la calidad de la iluminación y accesorios que lo complementan y, en este caso, existen unos 200 metros de iluminación LED, así como diversas lámparas. El sistema se puede programar para cambiar lentamente de un patrón de color a otro, creando un flujo relajante de luz de color por todo el apartamento.

El espacio común gira en torno a una mesa de comedor circular con una tablero de eucalipto, hecha a medida por UDesign y claramente definida por una alfombra de seda naranja tostado y lumi-

naria Tom Dixon. Se logra crear en este espacio un ambiente de misterio y profundidad gracias a dos espejos de bronce de la firma Catellan Italia y las espléndidas lámparas de pie Pulpo.

Mientras todas las zonas comunes del apartamento incitan a deambular libremente y socializarse, la suite principal es un oasis de privacidad y tranquilidad.

Se distribuye en sala, vestidor, baño y dormitorio con áreas separadas por un panel de eucalipto ahumado que a la vez sirve de soporte para dos pantallas de TV y una chimenea LED. La cama ha sido fabricada a medida por UDesign en cuero nobuck color hueso, con un toque marroquí añadido por las lámparas suspendidas multicolores Contardi.

Scent is one of the most important senses and can help us become more creative, inspired, relaxed and even joyful.

We caught up with Sthlm Fragrance Supplier CEO and founder, Joanna Kaneteg. Joanna Kaneteg is a mother of 4, a wife and an entrepreneur.

Joanna and her family have just moved to Marbella from their native Sweden.

Let’s talk about how Fragrance Supplier started?

I have worked within sales and marketing my whole career. When we lived in Miami, I learnt about scent marketing and got really intrigued with this and what a strong influence fragrance has on us. I found it interesting that the subject in Europe was not as big as in the US considering the affect our sense of smell has on us and our mood.

A scent can also directly transport you back to specific memories and emotions.

The power of scent is unbelievable and based on this, I realized that there was a gap in Europe wi-

thin the home fragrance market, where you not only use scented candles or diffusers to enrich your home with a wonderful scent, but you can add an extra decorating layer in your home. You can change the atmosphere and your mood when you add a specific scent with Aroma Diffusers.

We developed our Aroma Diffuser that spreads the scent in a cool mist and fragrances a whole room. You can change the scent however often you like for different rooms, for different occasions and different seasons, and you can even change the look of your aroma diffuser through its beautiful light changing functions.

You mention scentscaping, can you explain what that is?

Scentscaping means that you use different scents to emphasize the use of the room, as well as an interior designer carefully designs each room by choosing furniture pieces, artwork- this is the same but through scent. Styling a room with a fragrance communicates who you are. This is scentscaping.

How does scentscaping affect a home?

Adding scent is a vital layer in decorating and presentation of a space, a good scent can quickly transform the atmosphere and mood of a whole room in just minutes.

It’s often the little details that add the most impact to a room. When I am decorating my own home with scent in Marbella, I go with Sthlm Fragrance Supplier No 7 Green Tea and No 8 Bamboo. The scent´s really capture the Marbella lifestyle I believe and fits our house and decoration perfectly.

The crisp unique scent of these two scents, not only enhance the serenity of my decor, they also become our house signature scents, awakening the senses and creating an inviting and uplifting atmosphere.

How did you go about bringing your products to market and where can people find them?

Quite simply by offering the products to retailers. It was such a unique collection of products, there was a lot of interest in them. We started by going to interior design fairs and from there, it just took off.

We are stocked in many high end retailers in Europe. Here in Marbella you can find our products for example in Boho Club and in Estuco Interiors. We also have an online e-commerce which stocks not just our products but other brands too.

You are currently launching several new products into Sthlm Fragrance Supplier – what can you tell us about them?

So, we have always been working with perfume oils for home fragrance. We have a perfume house in Grasse, France where we develop our perfume oils. With perfume you can create a galaxy of different and amazing scents. Today we have 21 different perfume oil for home fragrance. A scent for each room, occasion and season.

We are now launching a new collection of 100 % essential oils .When using our new collection in our Aroma Diffusers for example, they have many health benefits, many of those commonly known through aromatherapy.

How do you combine your work with your family life and being a mom?

Well to be honest, I believe that one the hardest thing in life is to find that work life balance. Balance to find quality time with your family, balance at work, with friends. I also like to train every day to stay fit and healthy. When you run your own company there are often very long days at work but in my Company, I have an amazing team that makes the days easier. I think life in Marbella and its way of life has helped a lot with balance. Quarantine

Who most inspires you? Where do you get your daily motivation from?

My husband! He´s a brilliant man and a true inspiration. Whenever I came up against an obstacle, he would always be the motivation you needed to push through. He believes nothing is impossible and with that mindset, he reminds all of us, that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

Following on from my husband, are our kids. Our eldest son Robin runs a very successful company in Sweden that he and a friend set up called ROI

Has the lockdown affected your business?

Yes, but we were very fortunate that it had the opposite effect on us unlike many others. Our sales actually increased.

Since lockdown and the whole pandemic, wellbeing has become even more of a focal point. We want to create an oasis in our own home and surround ourselves in a healthy atmosphere, so our products have filled this need more than normal during this difficult time.

Hands down, it is our glass oval Aroma Diffuser which is available in grey or white. These are the original products that put us on the map and I´m very proud and they remain my favorite.

Hablemos de cómo comenzó el Sthlm Fragrance Supplier He trabajado en ventas y marketing toda mi carrera.

Cuando vivíamos en Miami, aprendí sobre el marketing de fragancias y me intrigó mucho esto y la gran influencia que tienen las fragancias. Me pareció interesante que el tema en Europa no fuera tan grande como en los EE. UU. Teniendo en cuenta el efecto que nuestro sentido del olfato tiene sobre nuestro estado de ánimo. Un aroma también puede transportarnos directamente a recuerdos y emociones específicas.

El poder de aromas es increíble y, en base a esto, me di cuenta de que había una gran brecha en Suecia y el resto de Europa dentro del mercado de fragancias para el hogar, donde no solo se usa velas o difusores perfumados para enriquecer con un aroma maravilloso, sino que además puede agregar una capa de decoración adicional en su hogar. Puede cambiar la atmósfera y su estado de ánimo cuando agrega un aroma específico con difusores de aroma.

Desarrollamos nuestro difusor que dispersa el aroma en forma de bruma fresca, perfumando toda una habitación. Bueno, para ser sincero, creo que una de las cosas más difíciles de la vida es encontrar el balance entre la vida laboral y personal. Equilibrio para encontrar tiempo de calidad con su familia, conciliar el trabajo, con amigos. También me gusta entrenar todos los días para mantenerme en forma y saludable.

Cuando administra su propia empresa, a menudo hay días muy largos en el trabajo, pero yo personalmente, tengo un equipo increíble que facilita los días.

Creo que la vida en Marbella y su forma ha ayudado mucho con ello. La cuarentena nos mostró a muchos cómo reorganizar nuestras vidas y encontrar así ese verdadero equilibrio. Entre cuarentena y Marbella, creo que fue un curso intensivo sobre cómo dividir todo para mejor. ¿La cuarentena ha afectado su negocio?

Sí, pero tuvimos mucha suerte de que tuviera el efecto contrario, a diferencia de muchos otros. Nuestras ventas realmente aumentaron.

Desde el cierre y toda la pandemia, el bienestar se ha convertido aún más en un foco puntual. Queremos crear un oasis en nuestra propia casa y rodearnos de una atmósfera saludable, por lo que nuestros productos han llenado esta necesidad más de lo normal durante este momento difícil. ¿Quién te inspira más? ¿De dónde sacas tu motivación diaria? ¡Mi esposo! Es un hombre brillante y una verdadera inspiración. Cada vez que me topaba con un obstáculo, él siempre era la motivación que necesitaba 86

para superarlo. Él cree que nada es imposible y con esa mentalidad, nos recuerda a todos, que todo es posible cuando te lo propones.

Siguiendo a mi esposo, son nuestros hijos. Nuestro hijo mayor, Robin, dirige una empresa muy exitosa en Suecia que él y un amigo establecieron llamada ROI - roi.se. No podríamos estar más orgullosos.

Nuestro hijo del medio, Liam, estudia en los Estados Unidos en California y le está yendo muy bien, tanto en sus estudios como en la adaptación a la vida en el lugar. Nuestras dos chicas, ambas viven aquí con nosotros en Marbella y se están instalando en su nueva vida. Tanto Zoe como Haylie son mi motivación diaria para ser el mejor referente a seguir.

De todos sus productos, ¿cuál es su favorito y por qué?

Sin dudas, nuestro difusor de aroma ovalado de vidrio está disponible en gris o blanco. Estos son los productos originales que nos pusieron en el mapa y estoy muy orgulloso y siguen siendo mis favoritos. ¿Qué diferencia a sus productos de otras marcas?

Para nosotros, un aroma no es solo un aroma. Estamos produciendo productos de estilo de vida que realmente pueden transformar su hogar, su estado de ánimo, su bienestar.

Smart science offering simple solutions for skin tightening

As the skin ages, collagen and elastin begin to decrease causing a loss of elasticity and volume. The result can be the appearance of multiple wrinkles, sagging and changes in skin texture.

A new generation of ultrasound equipment has been developed to treat fine lines and wrinkles non-invasively and in a single session.

With SofWave, the 7 parallel ultrasound beams are in direct contact with the skin and are less sensitive to its inhomogeneity. The power generated by the applicator is deposited directly into the dermis where the collagen and elastin fibres are located for their activation and renewal. The release of energy is done through an intelligent cooling

system which protects the skin throughout the treatment. This application of energy at 1.5mm directly into the dermis prevents fat atrophy in the subcutaneous tissue.

However, with HIFU, the transducers are not in contact with the skin and this creates a high energy focal point at different depths depending on the transducer used, which means that the risk of fat atrophy in the subcutaneous tissue is greater when transducers are used at more than 1.5mm.

This is what happened to Raquel Zamora, a businesswoman from Marbella, who surprises us once again after confinement, with the opening of a new establishment that brings an original concept to the city, and in which the senses play a special role. We are talking about Szia Marbella, a charming flower and cake shop in the heart of the Golden Mile.

What is Szia?

Szia is a unique place, for which we’ve used all our senses, never better said! It’s a mixture of aromas, flavours, and textures. A new concept in Marbella that aims to offer a unique shopping experience, with smells which evoke memories, where the importance of small details takes on its full meaning, and where you can enjoy beauty in its utmost splendour, through the products we bring directly to your table: from original aromatic or decorative bouquets, to freshly baked bread and croissants, and a wide variety of French pastries and healthy vegan cakes.

All of this, together with decorative pieces and linen tablecloths that become the perfect complement.

How did you come up with the idea of creating this new concept?

Szia is a project that I’d had in mind for months, but it finally took shape during confinement, as a way of bringing two lines of business I’ve always liked together in one concept: the world of flowers and the world of cakes. It’s a novel concept. For the flowers section, we invited Virginia Florista to participate in our project by putting her artistic touch to the different floral compositions we offer.

Out of curiosity… Why Szia? Where does the name come from?

Szia is one of those words that, despite its simplicity, hides infinite beauty. It means ‘Hello’ in Hungarian, a combination of just four letters that mean so much… Szia Marbella is full of positive energy, eager to receive the most demanding customers, as well as the most charming. But it’s also a simple establishment, like the word that gave it its name; one you’ll probably leave with a smile... that smile prompted by the aroma of freshly baked bread, or the scent of freshly cut flowers.

INGREDIENTES : 5 huevos orgánicos 180 gr de harina organica tamizada 1 cucharada de levadura 180 gr de panela 110 gr de mantequilla organica la cascara de una naranja zumo de 2 naranjas PREPARACIÓN: Precalentar el horno a 160 grados separar la yema de la clara de los huevos Batir las yemas de huevo y la panela hasta que ésta quede integrada y se haya triplicado el tamaño. mezclar la levadura y la harina, a continuación agregar la mezcla a las yemas de los huevos.

Mezclar la mantequilla derretida, la ralladura de las naranjas y el zumo de las mismas.

Batir las claras de huevo hasta que esten rígidas e incorporarlas muy suavemente a la mezcla anterior usando una espátula. Hay que tener mucho cuidado de no romper las claras.

Preparar el molde untando un poco de mantequilla y hornear durante 35, 40 min Y listo para comer !!

1. SHOP LOCALLY Reduce your carbon footprint by shopping locally, diminishing the travel and transportation of products and at the same time also help support the local economy. Shopping at local farmers markets is far healthier than shopping at big department stores, the produce often have zero or far less artificial additives and pesticides as the produce come straight from the local countryside farms.

It is far healthier for your body to consume these fruits and vegetables as they also pick and sell only what is in season, and is far more economical as they are often sold for less than conventional stores and is overall far more sustainable. Three categories of defects can be qualitatively distinguished, using generic terminology, that can appear in the deliveries of new dwellings by developers to buyers. A first (1) category which would include all the execution faults or defects that affect the completion or finishing elements of the work (the anomalies, small defects or pending finishes); a second (2) category relating to construction faults or installations affecting habitability requirements and, lastly, a third (3) category which would include defects regarding the structural stability or mechanical resistance of the building or dwelling.

(1) Execution faults or defects that affect the completion or finishing elements of the work. Once the dwelling is delivered by the developer to the buyer, the latter is sure to identify small defects or pending finishes that they could not detect earlier if they inspected the dwelling or that they missed if they did.

In both cases, it is recommended to communicate to the developer -in the manner provided for in the sales contract or in writing, if the manner has not been provided-any pending anomalies, reviews or defects.

These are small construction defects that are easy to solve and will be quickly corrected by a formal developer.

That said, if the developer does not attend to the communication and does not carry out the repair of the pending anomalies, revisions or defects, remember that these small construction defects have a one-year guarantee period. Within this one-year period, timely and reasonable claims can be made without sending a first communication listing the anomalies, defects and revisions that would have initially gone unnoticed.

(2) Construction faults or installations affecting the habitability of the dwelling. The ultimate cost savings or the rush to finish or simply the lack of expertise and inadequate control can sometimes lead to the future appearance of construction defects that are practically impossible to discover by the average consumer who is not an expert in construction when they inspect the dwelling and which, on the other hand, usually manifest themselves in the dwelling when it is actually used, when it rains several days in a row or when the neighbours begin to occupy adjacent dwellings. Sometimes it can be dampness or leaks due to inadequate waterproofing or improper installation of the material, other times they are caused by defective insulation against heat or cold, or inadequate soundproofing or the faulty operation of certain installations.

Again, whatever the defect is, it must be communicated reliably to the developer, in order to give the communication greater mutual guarantee, and then await the developer’s response. The developer will normally attend to the request and will study the formula and the period of solution of the problem according to its importance. If the developer ignores the communication or if they reject the claim, it is

important to remember that the guarantee period to be able to claim these kinds of habitability, functionality or security defects is three years. In this case, that is, if the developer ignores the communication or refuses to repair it, the logical thing to do would be to seek legal advice and almost certainly request the preparation of a technical or expert report identifying the problem, the origin of the problem and the cost of the repair to definitively resolve the problem, confronting the developer with the possible non-contentious solution to the discrepancy before taking legal action.

(3) Problems regarding the structural stability or mechanical resistance of the building or dwelling. If this is the problem that you have to face, qualitatively the most complex in its solution, and the most expensive, since the Spanish Building Act imposes a protective solution that is the ten-year insurance.

Faced with this type of problem, it seems advisable to seek legal advice and formally communicate, with clear proof, the existence of the problem for its study, evaluation and solution. Again, if the response is not agile and positive, it will be essential to commission an expert report on which any possible action to be taken will ultimately be supported, in the event that an adequate response is not obtained in a non-contentious manner.

As you have seen, the periods of time available to buyers to request the correction of defects that appear in dwellings range from one year for small defects, to three years for habitability and functionality problems and up to ten years for structural problems. However, at the same time, insofar as the developer is also a seller, they are always subject to the contractual liability arising from the contract signed and the developer-seller may be held liable for hidden defects that adversely affect the property with a claim period of six months from the delivery of the dwelling.

Finally, also as a seller, the developer, after the last reform of the Spanish Civil Code, will have a contractual responsibility for the five years following the sale so that eventually it could be a way to accommodate claims for defaults whose terms of claim (one or three years) had elapsed, regardless of being the specific way of claiming for breaches of contractual provisions not specifically related to construction defects, for damages derived from the breach of contract proving that, in addition to the existence of material damages, the developer-seller has incurred damages as a result of the change of qualities or the description of the building.

In short, it is an adequate protection regime, not infallible, but adequate, in which it is essential to know how to react at the right times and with strategies aimed at diligently seeking reactions in good faith, but protecting oneself against some -unusual- unlawful reactions and for which immediate judicial protection must be sought.

REPASOS Y DEFECTOS EN LAS ENTREGAS DE

VIVIENDAS NUEVAS

By Santiago de la Cruz Podemos distinguir cualitativamente tras categorías de defectos, por utilizar una terminología genérica, que pueden aparecer en las entregas de viviendas nuevas por parte de promotores a compradores. Una primera (1) en la que incluiríamos todos los vicios o defectos de ejecución que afecten a elementos de terminación o acabado de las obra (las anomalías, pequeños defectos o remates pendientes); una segunda (2) relativa a los vicios constructivos o instalaciones que afecten a los requisitos de habitabilidad y, finalmente, una tercera (3) que comprendería los defectos relativos a la estabilidad y a la seguridad estructural o resistencia mecánica del edificio o de la vivienda.

(1) Vicios o defectos de ejecución que afecten a elementos de terminación o acabado de las obras .- Una vez que se entrega la vivienda por parte del promotor al comprador, seguro que éste identifica pequeños defectos o remates pendientes que o no pudo detectar antes si inspeccionó la vivienda o que si lo hizo le pasaron desapercibidos. Tanto en un caso como en otro resulta aconsejable comunicar al promotor -en la forma prevista al efecto en el contrato de compraventa o fehacientemente, en caso de que no se hubiere recogido la forma de hacerlo- las anomalías, repasos o defectos pendientes. Se trata de pequeños vicios constructivos de fácil solución que un promotor formal corregirá con rapidez.

Ahora bien, si el promotor no atendiese la comunicación y no realizase la reparación de las anomalías, repasos o defectos pendientes, hemos de saber que estos pequeños vicios constructivos tienen un plazo de garantía de un año. Dentro de este plazo anual pueden hacerse las reclamaciones oportunas y razonables sin que el envío de una primera comunicación listando las anomalías, defectos y repasos implique la renuncia a la reparación de todas esas otras que hubieren pasado inicialmente inadvertidas.

(2) Vicios constructivos o en las instalaciones que afecten a la habitabilidad de la vivienda.-El ahorro de costes en última instancia o las prisas por terminar o simplemente la falta de pericia y un inadecuado control pueden provocar, en ocasiones,

la aparición futura de vicios constructivos que son prácticamente imposibles de descubrir por un consumidor medio no experto en construcción cuando inspecciona la vivienda y que, por otra parte, suelen manifestarse en la vivienda cuando verdaderamente se usa, cuando transcurren varios días seguidos de lluvia o los vecinos empiezan a ocupar las viviendas colindantes A veces se trata de humedades o filtraciones por inadecuada impermeabilización o inadecuada instalación del material, otras veces son causa de defectuosos aislamientos frente a la calor o frente al frío, o la inadecuada insonorización o el defectuoso funcionamiento de determinadas instalaciones.

Nuevamente, cualquiera que sea el defecto ha de comunicársele al promotor, fehacientemente para dotar a la comunicación de mayor garantía recíproca, y a, continuación, esperar la respuesta del promotor. Normalmente, el promotor atenderá la petición y estudiará la fórmula y el plazo de solución del problema en función de su trascendencia. Si el promotor ignorase la comunicación o si rechazase la reclamación es importante recordar que el plazo de garantía para poder reclamar este tipo de defectos de habitabilidad, funcionalidad o seguridad es el de tres años. En este caso, es decir, si el promotor ignorase la comunicación o rechazase la reparación, lo lógico sería pedir asesoramiento legal y casi con toda seguridad solicitar la preparación de informe técnico o pericial en el que se identificase el problema, el origen del mismo y el coste de la reparación para su subsanación definitiva del problema, enfrentando al promotor la posible solución no contenciosa de la discrepancia antes de emprender acciones legales.

(3) Problemas referidos a la estabilidad y seguridad estructural del edificio.- Si este es el problema al que nos hemos de enfrentar, cualitativamente el más complejo en su solución, y el más caro, desde la Ley de Ordenación de la Edificación se impone una solución protectora que es el seguro decenal.

Ante este tipo de problemas, parece ya de inicio que resulta aconsejable solicitar asesoramiento legal y comunicar formalmente con constancia fehaciente la existencia del problema para su es-

tudio, evaluación y solución. Nuevamente, en el supuesto de que la respuesta no sea ágil y positiva, será imprescindible encargar un informe pericial sobre el que se soportará en última instancia cualquier eventual acción a interponer, en caso de no obtener una respuesta adecuada en vía no contenciosa.

Como hemos visto los plazos de los que disponen los compradores para solicitar la corrección de los defectos que aparezcan en las viviendas van del año para los pequeños defectos, a los tres años para los problemas de habitabilidad y funcionalidad y hasta los diez años para los problemas estructurales. No obstante, paralelamente, en la medida en la que el promotor es también vendedor siempre queda sujeto a la responsabilidad contractual derivada del contrato firmado y se le podrá exigir responsabilidad al promotor-vendedor por vicios ocultos que afecten negativamente al inmueble con un plazo de reclamación de seis meses desde la entrega de la vivienda.

Finalmente, también como vendedor, el promotor, tras la última reforma del Código Civil, tendrá una responsabilidad contractual que se extiende durante los cinco años posteriores a la venta por lo que eventualmente pudiera ser una vía de cabida para reclamaciones por incumplimientos cuyos plazos de reclamación (uno o tres años) hubiesen transcurrido, con independencia de ser la vía específica de reclamación de incumplimientos de previsiones contractuales no específicamente referidas a defectos constructivos, por daños derivados del incumplimiento del contrato probando que, además de la existencia de daños materiales, el promotor-vendedor le ha irrogado daños como consecuencia del cambio de calidades o la descripción del edificio.

En definitiva, se trata de un régimen de protección adecuado, no infalible, pero adecuado, en el que resulta esencial saber reaccionar en los tiempos adecuados y con estrategias dirigidas de manera diligente a buscar reacciones de buena fe, pero protegiéndose ante algunas -poco habituales- reacciones contrarias a derecho ante las que hay que buscar la inmediata tutela judicial.

One of the most frequently held conversations in my office is reproduced below: Client: “You see, throughout our marriage we have made every effort to give our two children the best possible education. We have paid for their degrees in Madrid and their masters abroad. I am very proud of the fact that one of them is now a dental surgeon who owns a marvellous clinic, which I have also paid for, and that the other is an engineer who has a magnificent executive position in a leading construction company. They have both taken a big step forward with respect to our modest economy.

And now I want to make a will, so that what little I have left, after having financed everything for my children, is for my wife. So that if she falls ill and needs to pay for a stay in a residence, or for a person to assist her at home, she can do so without any problem.”

Answer: “Well, you cannot do that, since the Spanish law limits your freedom of testation and establishes a system of forced shares for your children (called “the legitime”), so of what you have left, two thirds have to be for your children, and cannot be for your wife.”

Client: “For the dental surgeon and the engineer, who have much more money than I do, and have no need whatsoever, and not for my wife who has nothing and may need what I want to leave her? If there is a law that says that, it is very unfair.”

And, honestly, I think that the citizen who makes that statement is absolutely right. The Spanish Civil Code, which regulates the estate of those whose habitual residence is in Spain at the time of death, dates back to the year 1889. At that time, Spain was a purely agricultural society, in which the few who had an estate were the owners of a farm they had inherited from their parents, and on which the whole family worked, furthermore, without the children having received a wage for their work.

This was the basis for the term “family heritage”, passed down from generation to generation, and maintained with the work of the whole family, who was the true owner of the same. Therefore, upon the death of the father, it was only fair that it be transferred to those children who had worked without receiving payment, and since they had nothing else, would depend on that inheritance for the rest of their lives.

The law remains the same, but Spanish society is completely different from that of the 19th century.

The current family is no longer a community of patrimonial interests, but a unity of life, affection and mutual help. Social awareness requires parents to provide and pay for the best education for their children, so that they can earn a living from their work. And the children must live off their work, not from what they expect to inherit. The legitime system can, moreover, demotivate the children who know there is no need for them to strive to satisfy their economic needs if their father is wealthy, as with the privilege of the legitime, they are assured that they will be able to live off the inheritance which they will doubtlessly receive in the future.

Even if it is at their mother’s expense.

I believe that when parents consider estate planning, they should have the freedom to be the ones who value affection, care, attention and needs, without a law distrusting their mental health or the integrity of their criteria, and restricting their freedom of testation, based on presumed and mathematically predetermined affections, which, in most cases, mean nothing but privileges for some (the children), as opposed to the needs of others (the spouse).

CONTRA LAS LEGÍTIMAS HEREDITARIAS Reproduzco a continuación una de las conversaciones que con más frecuencia se desarrollan en mi despacho: Cliente: “Mire usted, señor notario, durante nuestro matrimonio nos hemos esforzado para darle a nuestros dos hijos la mejor formación posible. Les hemos pagado carrera en Madrid y masters en el extranjero. Estoy muy orgulloso de que ahora uno de ellos es odontólogo titular de una estupenda clínica que también le he pagado yo y, el otro, es ingeniero y tiene un magnífico puesto ejecutivo en una empresa constructora de primer orden. Los dos han dado un gran paso adelante respecto a nuestra modesta economía. Y ahora quiero hacer testamento para que, lo poco que me queda después de haberle pagado todo eso a mis hijos, sea para mi mujer. Para que, si ella cae enferma y necesita pagar su estancia en una residencia, o necesita pagar a una persona para que la asista en casa, pueda hacerlo sin ningún problema”.

Respuesta: “Pues no puede usted hacer eso, pues la ley española, limita su libertad y establece un sistema de cuotas obligatorias para los hijos (llamadas “legítimas”), de manera que, de lo que a us-

ted le queda, dos tercios han de ser para sus hijos y no pueden ser para su esposa” Cliente: “¿Para el odontólogo y para el ingeniero, que tienen mucho más dinero que yo y no tienen necesidad alguna, y no para mi esposa que no tiene nada y puede necesitar lo que yo quiero dejarle? Si hay una ley que dice eso, es muy injusta” Y, sinceramente, pienso que el ciudadano que hace esa afirmación lleva toda la razón.

El Código Civil español, que regula la sucesión de los que fallecen teniendo su residencia habitual en España, es del año 1889. En esa época, España era una sociedad meramente agrícola, en la que los pocos que tenían un patrimonio, eran titulares de una explotación agrícola, que habían heredado de sus padres, en la que trabajaba toda la familia y, además, sin que los hijos cobrasen un sueldo por su trabajo.

Se hablaba por ello de un “patrimonio familiar”, transmitido de generación a generación, y mantenido con el trabajo de toda la familia, que era la auténtica titular del mismo y que, por ello, al fallecimiento del padre, era justo que pasase a esos hijos que habían trabajado sin cobrar y que, como no tenían otra cosa,

iban a depender el resto de su vida de esa herencia.

Y la ley sigue igual, pero la sociedad española es completamente distinta a la del siglo XIX. La familia actual no es ya una comunidad de intereses patrimoniales, sino una unidad de vida, afecto y ayuda mutua. La conciencia social exige a los padres dar y pagar la mejor formación a sus hijos, para que éstos puedan vivir de su trabajo. Y de su trabajo deben vivir los hijos y no de lo que esperen heredar. El sistema de legítimas, además, puede desmotivar a unos hijos que, si su padre es rico, saben que no tienen por qué esforzarse para la satisfacción de sus necesidades económicas, pues, con el privilegio de la legítima, tienen asegurado que van a poder vivir de la herencia que, con toda seguridad, recibirán en el futuro. Aunque sea a costa de su madre.

Y creo que, cuando los padres se planteen la organización de su sucesión, deben ser ellos los que, libremente, valoren afectos, cuidados, atenciones y necesidades, sin que una ley desconfíe de su salud mental o de la rectitud de su criterio y restrinja su libertad de testar, sobre la base de unos afectos presuntos y matemáticamente predeterminados, que la mayoría de las veces no son sino privilegios de unos (los hijos) frente a necesidades de otros (el cónyuge).

Today, we have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know the young designer and creator of the luxury brand, Marcos Villafruela, based in Marbella.

A graduate in Creation and Design, he has surprised us with his designs. High quality fabrics, velvets, crepes, organza, embroidery and rhinestones are some of the raw materials used in his fashion proposals.

His career began as soon as he finished his studies, with the presentation of the “Emblema Miranda” collection as his final degree project; six models based on the architecture of buildings and emblematic spaces in his hometown.

His innate curiosity is reflected in all his creations, capable of combining architecture, paintings, places, fabrics, cars, luxury... beauty, in one word: modernity.

Thus his proposal, Still Lifes, makes reference to, and transforms into subtle fabrics and embroidery the collection of the same name, painted by the artist, Jaime Manrique Palacín, in whose residence we conducted this interview.

An avid traveller, his latest creation called “Argel” evokes Algeria, tinged with red and golden tones. The invaluable collaboration of the dealer of the exclusive brand of vehicles, Bentley, C. de Salamanca, is greatly appreciated for the presentation of these designs.

As a representative of the Wedding and Party world, “Invitadas” transmits subtlety, with fabrics imported from India, Egypt, France... for those special events, to stand out for originality and elegance.

A tireless worker, we discover a young man who is enthusiastic, visionary, approachable, down-to-earth and full of emotions to convey.

Rita Hayworth THE GLAMOUR GODDESS OF HOLLYWOOD

By Eva del Amo If we were to name Margarita Carmen Cansino, it is highly unlikely that anyone would know who we were referring to.

However, this is the real name of the actress Rita Hayworth, a true Hollywood legend of the 40s.

Daughter of the Spanish dancer, Eduardo Cansino Reina, born in Seville, and Volga Margaret Hayworth, an Anglo-Irish dancer, Rita was born in New York on October 17, 1918. Her childhood was not as happy as a girl might wish. With two younger brothers, Rita’s father reluctantly agreed for her to go to school. “From the moment I was able to stand on my feet, at the age of three, I started dance lessons. I didn’t enjoy it, but I didn’t have the courage to tell my father. Rehearse, rehearse and rehearse. That was my childhood.” she confessed in an interview years later.

When she was twelve, Rita’s father decided that the time had come for her to turn professional. He forced her to stop attending school and made her his dance partner. But fate had other plans for her. After performing at a club in Tijuana (Mexico), a Fox Film producer noticed her and offered her a film career. From that moment on, she was renamed Rita Cansino, and at just 16, she debuted on the big screen with a brief role in Dante’s Inferno.

A STAR IS BORN At the age of 18, Rita married Edward Judson in Las Vegas, despite her parents’ opposition. Her husband, 20 years older, had contacts in the film industry and was determined to make her a movie star. He had Rita lose a few kilos, dye her hair red, and undergo electrolysis to raise her low hairline and thus make her more attractive. Lastly, he changed her name. From that moment on she would be known as Rita Hayworth.

Judson got Rita a contract with Columbia Pictures, producer of some of Hollywood’s most famous stars. Her first leading role was as a secondary actress in Only Angels Have Wings, directed

by Howard Hawks, sharing the screen with Cary Grant, already an actor of great renown. The actress began to be noticed by audiences and critics alike, and she started to get more prominent roles.

Her shy nature contrasted with the enormous fortitude she displayed on the big screen.

TWO STORMY MARRIAGES Things were starting to go well for her professionally, although not personally. The actress was not left with very fond memories of her first husband.

“He helped me with my career and helped himself to my money,” the actress said later in an interview. When they separated, Judson kept all the marital assets, leaving the actress on the verge of bankruptcy.

The next man she fell in love with was a young Orson Welles. They say that it was love at first sight for the actor and director of Citizen Kane when he saw her on the cover of Life magazine. That day he swore he would marry her, and he soon fulfilled his promise. Nicknamed “The Beauty and the Brains” in the world of Hollywood, the couple had a daughter, Rebecca, bringing true happiness to Rita, who had always wanted to be a mother.

THE PATH TO SUCCESS Hayworth, now with 20th Century Fox, who had rejected her years earlier, began a successful career. Along with Tyrone Power, she starred in Blood and Sand, becoming the highest-paid actress of the time. At the peak of her fame, she appeared in You’ll Never Get Rich, a musical comedy with Fred Astaire that was a resounding success with audiences.

Three years later, in 1946, she starred in Gilda, a film noir directed by Charles Vidor that led her to achieve absolute stardom, and with which she came to be considered one of the most spellbinding female characters in cinema history. The mythical scene in which the actress plays Put the Blame on Mame, while suggestively peeling off her long black glove, is considered one of the most iconic of the big screen.

The scene itself caused a great scandal in many parts of the world. In Spain it was considered “seriously dangerous”, and in many other countries the film was not even released for the same reason. However, the audiences were already extolling the actress, who was starting to be known as “The Love Goddess.”

Such was her fame that an expedition to the Andes Mountains took a copy of the film with them, just to bury it, so that it could be preserved in case of a nuclear disaster. At the same time, American soldiers put a picture of the actress under the name of “Gilda” on the tip of the atomic bomb that was dropped in a testing program by the U.S. on Bikini Island.

This caused a deep malaise in the actress, who had always shown herself to be a pacifist.

GRADUAL RETIREMENT The peak of her fame coincided, however, with a marital crisis which led Hayworth to make a statement in front of the cameras that would make her even more famous: “Men go to bed with Gilda, but wake up with me.”

Before their breakup, the actress and the director made one more film together, The Lady from Shanghai, which was not particularly successful, because Welles had the actress cut her hair and dye it platinum blonde, and gave her a character with a tragic end, which her fans did not appreciate. It was only with time that the film took its place in history. Rita Hayworth herself would confess years later: “I knew we were making a classic while we were filming it.”

Gilda marked a turning point in the career of the actress, who would never again star in such a successful film. In 1947, Hayworth separated from Orson Welles to find love again with Prince

Aly Khan, who became her third husband. The magazines did a full-colour feature of their wedding, in a beautiful setting on the French Riviera. Rita and Aly were married on a bed of 30,000 roses, next to a pool scented with cologne. After having a daughter, Princess Yasmin, the marriage ended in 1953, leaving the actress once again in financial and emotional distress.

After the prince came two more marriages which also ended in failure. Rita Hayworth was gradually withdrawing from the film industry. In the 70s, she only worked in modest films, due to her physical deterioration and the inability to memorise the scripts correctly. The first symptoms of Alzheimer’s were surfacing, although she did not obtain a precise diagnosis until 1980.

In her last years, she was taken care of by her daughter Yasmin, and on May 14, 1987, she died with the same humility that had characterised her beginnings as an actress. She was 68 years old, and had not remembered who she was for some time.

However, the profession wanted to pay their last respects to her. Funeral events took place in the church of the Good Shepherd, in Beverly Hills.

Among the coffin-bearers were Ricardo Montalbán, Glenn Ford and Don Ameche, who spoke of her with the utmost of affection before the press.

Rita Hayworth is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City (California). Practically every day, fresh flowers are left on her grave by those who do not forget her beauty and talent during a time when films were essentially made to revere women like her.

Rita Hayworth La diosa del glamour de Hollywood Hija del bailarín español Eduardo Cansino Reina, natural de Sevilla, y de Volga Margaret Hayworth, bailarina de origen anglo-irlandés, Rita nació en Nueva York el 17 de octubre de 1918. Su infancia no fue todo lo feliz que una niña podría desear. Con dos hermanos más, el padre de Rita aceptaba a regañadientes que fuese al colegio. “Desde que pude mantenerme en pie, con tres años, recibí clases de baile.

No me gustaba, pero no tenía el valor de decírselo a mi padre. Ensayar, ensayar y ensayar. Así fue mi infancia”, confesaba años más tarde en una entrevista.

A los doce años, el padre de Rita decidió que había llegado el momento de hacerla profesional. Hizo que se dejara de asistir a la escuela y la convirtió en su pareja de baile. Pero el destino tenía otros planes para ella. Tras su actuación en un club de Tijuana (México), un productor de la Fox se fijó en ella y le propuso una carrera cinematográfica. Desde entonces pasó a denominarse Rita Cansino y con solo 16 años debutó en la gran pantalla con un breve papel en El infierno de Dante.

NACE UNA ESTRELLA A los 18 años, Rita se casó en Las Vegas con Edward Judson, a pesar de la oposición de sus padres.

Su marido, 20 años mayor, tenía contactos en la industria cinematográfica y estaba decidido a convertirla en una gran estrella de cine. Hizo que Rita adelgazara unos cuantos kilos, la tiñó de pelirroja y la obligó a someterse a una depilación por electrólisis y retrasar así la línea de crecimiento de su pelo para tener una imagen más atractiva. Por último, la cambió el nombre. A partir de ese momento sería conocida como Rita Hayworth.

Judson consiguió a Rita un contrato con Columbia Pictures, productora de algunas de las estrellas más famosas de Hollywood. Su primer papel destacado fue como actriz secundaria en Solo los ángeles tienen alas, de Howard Hawks, compartiendo pantalla con Cary Grant, un actor ya consagrado. El público y la crítica comenzaron a fijarse en ella, y a la actriz empezó a conseguir papeles más destacados. Su carácter tímido contrastaba con la enorme fuerza que tenía en la gran pantalla.

DOS MATRIMONIOS TORMENTOSOS Las cosas comenzaban a marchar bien en el terreno profesional, pero no en el personal. De su primer marido la actriz no guardaría un buen recuerdo. “Él me ayudó con mi carrera y se ayudó a sí mismo con mi dinero”, afirmaba la actriz posteriormente en una entrevista. Cuando se separó, Judson se quedó con todos los bienes del matrimonio, dejando a la actriz casi en la ruina.

El siguiente hombre del que se enamoró fue un joven Orson Welles. Cuentan que el actor y director de Ciudadano Kane se enamoró de ella nada más verla en la portada de la revista Life. Ese día juró que iba a casarse con ella y poco después cumplió su promesa. Apodados en el mundo de Hollywood como “la Bella y el Cerebro”, juntos tuvieron a una hija, Rebecca, que colmó de felicidad a Rita, que siempre había deseado ser madre.

EL CAMINO DEL ÉXITO Hayworth, ya en la 20th Century Fox, que años antes la había rechazado, comienza una carrera de éxito. Junto a Tyrone Power interpreta Sangre y Arena, convirtiéndose en la actriz mejor pagada del momento. En la cima de la fama intervino en Desde aquel beso, una comedia musical junto a Fred Astaire que tuvo una inmejorable acogida por el público.

Tres años después, en 1946, protagonizaría Gilda, la película de cine negro de Charles Vidor que terminó de lanzarla al estrellato, con el que es considerado uno de los personajes femeninos más deslumbrantes de la historia del cine. La mítica escena en la que la actriz interpreta Put the blame on Mame mientras se quita sugerentemente un guante es considerada una de las icónicas del cine.

La escena en sí causó un gran escándalo en gran parte del mundo. En España fue considerada “gravemente peligrosa” y en muchos otros países ni se llegó a estrenar por este motivo. Sin embargo, el público ya había encumbrado a la artista, que ya comenzaba a ser conocida como “la diosa del amor”.

Su fama fue tal que una expedición llevó una copia de la película a la Cordillera de los Andes, solo para enterrarla y que pudiera conservarse en caso de desastre nuclear. En esa misma época, soldados estadounidenses pusieron una imagen de la actriz bajo el nombre de “la diosa del amor” en la punta de la bomba atómica que fue arrojada por EE.UU. en sobre las islas Bikini, en periodo de pruebas, lo que causó un profundo malestar en la actriz, que siempre se había manifestado como pacifista.

RETIRADA PAULATINA Los momentos de mayor fama coinciden, sin embargo, con una crisis en su matrimonio, lo que le llevó a Hayworth a exclamar delante de las cámaras una frase que le haría más célebre aún: “los hombres se van a la cama con Gilda, pero se levantan conmigo”.

Antes de que se separaran, la actriz y el director ruedan una película más, La dama de Shanghái, que no tuvo demasiado éxito porque Welles cortó

el pelo a la actriz, la tiñó de rubio platino y le dio un personaje con un final trágico, lo que no gustó a sus seguidores. El tiempo fue el único que concedió a la película su lugar en la historia. La misma Rita Hayworth confesaría años más tarde que “sabía que estábamos haciendo un clásico mientras la rodábamos”.

Gilda fue un punto de inflexión en la carrera de la actriz, que nunca volvió a protagonizar una película con tanto éxito. En 1947 Hayworth se separa de Orson Welles para volver a encontrar el amor con el príncipe Ali Khan, quien se convirtió en su tercer esposo. Las revistas dieron a todo color su boda, en un precioso paraje de la Rivera francesa. Rita y Ali se casaron sobre un lecho de 30.000 rosas y junto a una piscina llena de agua de colonia. Tras tener una hija, la princesa Yasmin, el matrimonio se disolvió en 1953, dejando de nuevo a la actriz arruinada y hundida.

Detrás del príncipe llegaron dos matrimonios que también terminaron en fracaso. Poco a poco, Rita Hayworth se fue retirando de la industria del cine.

Durante los años 70 ya solo trabajó en películas modestas ante su deterioro físico y la imposibilidad de memorizar bien los guiones. El Alzheimer había hecho acto de presencia, aunque no obtuvo un diagnóstico exacto hasta 1980.

En los últimos años fue cuidada por su hija Yasmin y el 14 de mayo de 1987 murió con la sencillez que había caracterizado sus comienzos como actriz.

Tenía 68 años y hacía tiempo que ya no recordaba quién era. Sin embargo, la profesión quiso acompañarla en su último adiós. Los actos fúnebres tuvieron lugar en la iglesia del Buen Pastor, en Beverly Hills. Entre los portadores de su féretro estaban Ricardo Montalbán, Glenn Ford y Don Ameche, quienes la recordaron frente a la prensa con infinito cariño.

Rita Hayworth está enterrada en el cementerio de Holy Corss, en Culver City (California). Prácticamente a diario recibe flores frescas, de quienes no olvidan su belleza y su talento, en una época en la que el cine estaba hecho, básicamente, para admirar a mujeres como ella.

Marlon Brando is one of the icons of the rebellious Hollywood. Leaning forward on a motorbike, wearing a jauntily tilted cap, his face features on millions of posters that continue to be sold worldwide. His films have not lost their relevance, yet very little is known about the life of this self-made actor, who always knew how to preserve his essence.

Brando was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1924.

He was the youngest of three children born to Dorothy Pennebaker, of Irish ancestry, and Marlon Brando, of French descent. His father was a representative for a chemical factory, a job that led them to change states several times, until they finally settled in Illinois, the perfect place for his wife to start a local theatre group. It was during this period that her three children, Joselyn, Frances and Marlon, inherited a taste for acting.

The strong character of both father and son caused them to clash constantly. Young Bud, as he was known in his family, developed a rebellious streak, which prompted his father to enroll him against his will in the Shattuck Military Academy of Faribault, Minnesota. Two years later, he was expelled from the institution, due to his frequent confrontations with the management of the centre. The expulsion led Brando to start earning a living as a bricklayer and excavator driver.

THE DREAM OF BECOMING AN ACTOR The small jobs he reluctantly took on to make ends meet helped him reach the decision to follow in his sisters’ footsteps, and move to New York to try his luck as an actor. At the beginning it was not easy. While attending acting lessons with Stella Adler, from whom he learned the techniques of the Stanislavski method, he managed to get by with a series of casual, precarious jobs. During his training, Marlon Brando worked as a bellboy, a dishwasher, a lift attendant and a soft-drink seller, among other trades. His dreams, however, remained intact.

In 1946, he surprised theatre critics with a modest play called Truckline Cafe, in which the actor had to play a young man who had an epileptic fit. The staging was so realistic that in each performance, various members of the audience would get a real fright, thinking that Brando was actually having a fit on stage.

His opportunity came when he played the role of Stanley Kowalski in the play A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Elia Kazan. The play premiered on Broadway and the actor started to gain recognition. His name was on everyone’s lips. In 1950, he made the leap to the big screen, with the film The Men, a story about war veterans. In preparation for it, the actor spent a month in a military hospital. A year after the premiere of this film, his true success came, when the play A Streetcar Named Desire was taken to the big screen. Thus was born a star, and a paradigm of rebelliousness adopted by the youth of the time.

A SUCCESSFUL TRACK RECORD In just six years of film career, Marlon Brando earned five Oscar nominations. He obtained a statuette with On the Waterfront, in 1954. In 1971, he applied to the Academy for a replacement Oscar, alluding to the fact that it had been stolen. The truth was, Brando used it to prop open the door of his mansion, and some fans were unable to resist the temptation.

Years later, when the actor’s appearances on the big screen were becoming more and more sporadic, he won another Oscar for the film The Godfather, in 1972, for the role he played as Vito Corleone. Once again, the actor showed his controversial nature, refusing to collect the Oscar, instead sending an indigenous American rights activist to reject the award on his behalf.

Marlon Brando’s track record also includes two Golden Globes and three Baftas, as well as memorable performances in films such as Viva Zapata!, Julius Caesar, Last Tango in Paris, Mutiny on the Bounty and Apocalypse Now. One of his last appearances was in the film Superman, in 1978.

on the screen as the father of the superhero, the highest salary an actor had ever received until then, and considerably more than the film’s protagonist, Christopher Reeve, was paid. Brando refused to reprise his role as Vito Corleone in the sequel of The Godfather, and also to appear in Superman II, despite the fact that he was offered more than the amount paid to any of the actors who participated in the films.

A PERSONAL LIFE STRAIGHT OUT OF THE MOVIES Marlon Brando’s personal life was full of ups and downs. The actor was married three times, and had eleven children. His first marriage was to Anna Kashfi, and it lasted two years. He later married Movita Castaneda, but their relationship ended during the filming of Mutiny on the Bounty, when he met a beautiful Tahitian called Tarita Teriipaia, who would become his third wife. Thanks to this relationship, he had the opportunity to get to know the islands of Tahiti, which led him to acquire the beautiful Teti’aroa Atoll, in 1966. The island had previously belonged to the royal family of Tahiti. There he built a beautiful house, surrounded by nature, which became his refuge when he

was not filming in Hollywood.

Brando was a strong advocate for African-American and Native American rights, leading him to rub shoulders with the families of presidents Nixon and Kennedy in the 1960s.

In 1990, the actor experienced a terrible personal tragedy. His eldest son, Christian, was accused of killing the boyfriend of one of Brando’s daughters, Cheyenne, at the Mulholland Drive family residence. After a media frenzy at the trial, in which Christian was sentenced to several years in prison, five years later, Cheyenne committed suicide, at the age of just 25. Her death sank Marlon Brando into a deep depression.

THE STAR’S TWILIGHT YEARS In the last years of his life, Marlon Brando was having financial difficulties, as he had spent a large part of his money on his son’s defence. Up to his neck in debt, he left his mansion on Mulholland Drive, and moved into a modest room. However, despite his friends’ advice, he never considered selling the Tahitian island where he had spent so

many happy moments, and which, on his death, was inherited by his son Teihotu, who turned it into a luxury tourist resort. Many film stars, politicians and members of high society have spent their holidays in one of the 35 exclusive villas that the island has today: from the former US President, Barack Obama, to the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, Pippa Middleton, who spent her honeymoon enjoying the exclusivity of the atoll.

Before his death, Marlon Brando acknowledged ten of the children born from the different relationships he had had throughout his life. He died in Los Angeles, California, on July 1, 2004, due to respiratory problems. His older children scattered his ashes on his Tahitian island and in Death Valley in California, following the actor’s last wishes.

Marlon Brando lived a legendary life, full of tragedies, rebelliousness and eccentricities. With his death, one of the most important actors of the film world departed, and a legend was born.

Marlo Brando es uno de los iconos del Hollywood rebelde. Su rostro, subido en una moto y con gorra calada, aparece en millones de pósters que se siguen vendiendo en todo el mundo y sus películas no han perdido actualidad, pero pocos son los que conocen la vida de este actor hecho a sí mismo, que siempre supo conservar su esencia.

Brando nació en Omaha, en el estado de Nebraska, en 1924. Fue el tercero de los tres hijos del matrimonio formado por Dorothy Pennebaker, de ascendencia irlandesa, y Marlon Brando, descendiente de franceses.

Su padre era representante de una fábrica de productos químicos, un trabajo que les hizo cambiar de estado en varias ocasiones hasta asentarse en Illinois, el lugar perfecto para que su mujer impulsara un grupo de teatro local. Sus tres hijos, Joselyn, Frances y Marlon, heredaron de aquella época el gusto por la actuación.

El carácter fuerte de padre e hijo les hacía chocar constantemente. El joven Bud, como era conocido en su familia, desarrolló un carácter rebelde que hizo que su padre le inscribiera, en contra de su voluntad, en la Shattuck Military Academy de Fairbult, en Minnesota. Dos años después fue expulsado de la institución por su constante enfrentamiento con la dirección del centro.

Esta expulsión hizo que Brando comenzara a ganarse la vida como albañil y conductor de excavadoras.

EL SUEÑO DE SER ACTOR Los pequeños empleos en los que trabajaba para sobrevivir sin ninguna ilusión le ayudaron a tomar la decisión de seguir los pasos de sus hermanas y marcharse a vivir a Nueva York para probar suerte en el mundo de la interpretación. Los comienzos no fueron fáciles. Al mismo tiempo que asistía a clases de interpretación con Stella Alder, quien enfocaba sus clases bajo el método Stanislavski, sobrevivía con trabajos eventuales y precarios. Mientras se formaba, Marlon Brando fue botones, lavaplatos, ascensorista y vendedor de refrescos, entre otros oficios. Sus sueños, sin embargo, permanecían intactos.

En 1946 sorprendió a la crítica del mundo del teatro con una modesta obra llamada Truckline Cafe, en la que el actor tenía que interpretar a un joven al que le daba un ataque epiléptico. La puesta en escena era tan real que no había día en que varias personas apostadas en las butacas se asustaran pensando que Brando estaba sufriendo una crisis real en el escenario.

La oportunidad llegó cuando interpretó en el teatro el papel de Stanley Kowalski en Un tranvía llamado deseo, a las órdenes de Elia Kazan. La obra se estrenó en Broadway y el actor comenzó a ser conocido.

Obtuvo una estatuilla con On the Waterfront, en 1954. En 1971 pidió a la Academia otro Oscar en sustitución al que había ganado, aludiendo a que se lo habían robado. Lo cierto era que Brando lo utilizaba para dejar la puerta de su mansión entreabierta y algún fan no pudo resistirse a la tentación.

Años más tarde, en 1972 y ya cuando el actor hacía apariciones cada vez más esporádicas en la gran pantalla, ganó otro Oscar con la película El Padrino, donde interpretó el papel de Vito Corleone. Una vez más el actor mostró su polémico carácter, rechazando recoger el Oscar en persona y mandando en su lugar a una activista de los derechos de los indígenas norteamericanos, quien recogió el premio en su nombre.

En el palmarés de Marlon Brando se encuentra se encuentran también dos Globos de Oro y tres Bafta, e inolvidables interpretaciones en películas como Viva Zapata, Julio César, El último Tango en París, Rebelión a bordo y Apocalypse Now. Una de sus últimas apariciones fue en la película Superman, en 1978. Por solo diez minutos de aparición en pantalla como el padre del superhéroe cobró 4 millones de dólares, el mayor sueldo que un actor había recibido hasta entonces y bastante más dinero de lo que le correspondió al protagonista de la película, Christopher Reeve. Brando rechazó hacer nuevamente el papel de Vito Corleone en la segunda parte de El Padrino y también rehusó reaparecer en Superman II, a pesar de que se le ofreció más dinero que el destinado a cualquiera de los actores que participaron en ambas películas.

UNA VIDA PERSONAL DE PELÍCULA La vida personal de Marlon Brando estuvo llena de altibajos. El actor se casó tres veces y tuvo once hijos.

Su primer matrimonio fue con Anna Kashfi, y duró dos años. Después se casó con Movita Castaneda, pero su relación terminó cuando en la película Rebelión a bordo conoció a la que sería su tercera esposa, una bella tahitiana llamada Tarita Teriipia. A raíz de esta relación tuvo la oportunidad de conocer más a fondo las islas de Tahití, lo que le hizo adquirir en 1966 el precioso atolón Teti’aroa, que había pertenecido previamente a la familia real de Tahiti. Allí construyó una preciosa casa, en plena naturaleza, que convirtió en su refugio en las temporadas que no estaba rodando en Hollywood.

Brando fue un firme defensor de los derechos de los afroamericanos y los indígenas norteamericanos, lo que le hizo codearse en los años 60 con las familias de los presidentes Richard Nixon y Kennedy. En 1990, el actor vivió una gran tragedia personal. Su hijo mayor, Christian, fue acusado de matar al novio de Cheyenne, otra de las hijas de Brando, en la residencia familiar de Mulholland Drive. Tras un juicio muy mediático, en el que Christian fue condenado a cumplir varios años de prisión, llegó el suicidio de Cheyenne cinco años más tarde y con tan solo 25 años. Esta muerte dejó a Marlon Brando sumido en una depresión.

EL OCASO DE UNA ESTRELLA En los últimos años de su vida Marlon Brando pasó apuros económicos, ya que había gastado una gran parte de su dinero que tenía en la defensa de su hijo.

Ahogado por las deudas, abandonó su mansión en Mulholland Drive y pasó a vivir en una modesta habitación. Sin embargo, y pese a los consejos de sus amigos, nunca se planteó vender la isla tahitiana en la que tantos momentos felices había pasado, y que a su muerte pasó a manos de su hijo Teihotu, quien la convirtió en un resort de lujo. Numerosas estrellas cinematográficas y del mundo de la política y de la alta sociedad han pasado sus vacaciones en una de las 35 villas exclusivas que hoy tiene la isla. Allí se ha podido ver desde al ex presidente de EE.UU., Barack Obama, a la hermana de Catalina, la duquesa de Cambridge, Pippa Middleton, quien disfrutó de la exclusividad del atolón en su luna de miel.

Antes de morir, Marlon Brando reconoció a diez de los hijos que había tenido en las diferentes relaciones que había mantenido a lo largo de su vida. Murió en Los Ángeles, en California, el 1 de julio de 2004, debido a problemas respiratorios. Sus hijos mayores repartieron sus cenizas en su isla de Tahití y en el Valle de la Muerte, en California, siguiendo los deseos del actor.

Marlon Brando vivió una vida de leyenda, cargada de tragedias, rebeldía y excentricidades. Con su muerte desaparecía uno de los actores más importantes del mundo del celuloide y nacía un mito.

The new Rotary Club Marbella INAUGURATION - INAUGURACIÓN

It is a Rotary club founded by Raquel Garrido-Lestache, with 23 founding members of 19 English-speaking nationalities, based at the Hotel Marbella Club, where weekly meetings are held on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m.

The club’s objective is to involve foreign residents in Marbella in the Rotary’s voluntary and charity work in our city, and to serve those in need in our community.

Opening Event with dinner at the Beach Club of the Marbella Club Hotel, last night, 09.07.2020, for 67 diners, attended by Cristóbal Garre, town councillor responsible for Economic Development, with his wife; Ricardo Molina, Governor of Rotary International for District 2203, with his wife and Teodoro Rodríguez, Rotary Mace-bearer for District 2203; Saeko Hamada, Assistant Governor for zone 9 of District 2203

of Rotary International; Daniel Shamoon, Owner of the Marbella Club Group, Puente Romano Resort and Nobu Hotel. During the ceremony of the event, Ricardo Molina presented the club’s constitutional charter in an official acknowledgement by Rotary International to Raquel Garrido-Lestache in her role as president of the new club.

During the dinner there was a musical performance by the internationally renowned tenor, Rodrigo Orrego, also a founding member of the new club, and a small fashion show with patterned T-shirts by a group of young people. For the sale of these T-shirts and natural soaps, 900€ were raised to alleviate the needs of disabled people in our city during these even more difficult times due to the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Durante la cena hubo una actuación musical por parte del tenor internacionalmente reconocido Rodrigo Orrego, también miembro fundador del nuevo club y un pequeño desfile con camisetas estampadas realizado por un grupo de jóvenes. Por venta de dichas camisetas y jabones naturales se recaudaron 900€ destinadas para aliviar las necesidades de personas con discapacidad en nuestra ciudad durante estos tiempos aún más difíciles por la Pandemia por el Coronavirus.
