TRIBUTES have been paid to the celebrated philanthropist Sir Jack Petchey, who has passed away at the age of 98
Sir Jack (pictured right) was an early supporter of the school and a passionate believer in the transformative power of education. Born in Plaistow, the businessman set up the Jack Petchey Foundation to help children across London and Essex fulfil their potential. Headteacher Mr Deria said: “On behalf of The Excelsior Academy, formerly The Petchey Academy, I would like to send our deepest condolences to Sir Jack’s family and The Jack Petchey Foundation during this difficult time. Sir Jack’s memory will always be cherished and the school will forever be grateful to him.
