Welcome Directors,

The newest String Orchestra music from Wingert-Jones Publications is a joyful collection of works by caring composers, and it is my distinct pleasure to present them to you. We are keenly aware of the work you do as music educators, and the gravity of this calling for the future of the musical world. Curated with intent to aid you and your ensemble on your musical journey, we hope that you will find music that resonates with your students and audiences alike!

KEY TO SELECTING THE RIGHT GRADE LEVEL

First Achievement Series (Grade ½)

Houses music for the early beginning musician. Intended for use at the first concert performance.

• Playable by first year students with limited study

• Uses only the first six notes of the D Major Scale

• Moderate tempo and 4/4 time signatures

• All sections have an opportunity to play the melody

Early Achievement Series (Grade 1)

Home to any work in the Wingert-Jones Catalog that falls in the grade level of 1.

• Playable by first-year groups

• Keys of D and G; first position (Bass 3rd position); careful writing of low 2 for Violins and Violas while avoiding high 3

• Introducing 2/4 and 3/4 time signatures with whole, half, quarter and eighth note patterns with no syncopation

• Détaché, pizzicato, staccato, legato and marcato bowings to expand your students’ technique with the right hand

Achievement Series (Grade 1½)

This dedicated grade level of 1 ½ provides a much-needed bridge between grade 1 and grade 2 literature.

• Playable by 2nd year musicians

• Incorporates dotted quarter-notes and simple syncopated rhythms

• Expanded right hand technique of 2-note slurs, hooked bows and adjacent string crossings

• Open string double stops

Our most popular series is the dedicated home for literature spanning grades 2 – 2 ½.

• Playable by 2nd and 3rd year groups

• Introducing 6/8 time signatures

• New key signatures including C, A, F and B≤

• New positions for Violin, Cello and Bass

• More complex rhythms and fingered double stops

The dedicated home for all grades 3 – 3 ½ literature.

• Playable by advanced middle school and high school musicians

• Exploring higher positions for all strings

• Expanded literature for advancing programs

The Symphonic Series is a perfect home for our more challenging, and timeless, works.

• Playable by high school musicians

• First Violins explore 5th position while second Violins and Violas move through 3rd position

• Cellos expand to 4th position while the Bass section works through 5th position

In her work “Golden Daydreams,” composer Emily Golan takes us back to our childhood, laying on the ground and looking up towards the sky. The world is full of wonder and possibilities with this stunningly beautiful work for the string orchestra. (3:30)
