A message from our COO
Welcome to the Second Edition of the Excelcare Voice for 2026
“The smallest acts of kindness often make the biggest difference. Thank you for helping make Excelcare such a special family—Whether you’re a resident, a relative, a colleague, a volunteer or a friend of Excelcare.”
A
s summer brings longer days and brighter weather, it also gives us the perfect opportunity to reflect on everything we have achieved together over the past few months. As I look back on this edition, one thing stands out above everything else—the power of people. Every achievement, celebration and story you’ll read has one thing in common: kind, compassionate people coming together to make a difference. Whether you’re one of our wonderful residents, a family member, one of our dedicated colleagues or a valued friend of Excelcare, thank you for being part of our journey. Together, you help make our homes places filled with warmth, friendship, laughter and exceptional care. One of the highlights of the season was Care Home Open Week, where all of our homes embraced this year’s exciting World Cup theme. It was wonderful to see residents, relatives, colleagues and local communities coming together through creative activities, friendly competition and community spirit. Whilst England may not have lifted the trophy, they secured a well-earned bronze medal— but for me, every one of our homes was a winner, creating unforgettable experiences that brought people together and showcased the passion, creativity and teamwork that makes Excelcare so special.

Another unforgettable highlight was our Excelcare & Guildmore Retro Rewind & Shining Star Awards 2026, held in the beautiful surroundings of Braxted Park. What an incredible evening! It was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the achievements, dedication and outstanding contributions of our amazing colleagues. The Retro Rewind theme took us on a nostalgic journey from the glamour of the Roaring Twenties through to the vibrant 1990s, with fantastic live entertainment, brilliant tribute acts and stunning décor bringing every decade to life. It was a day full of laughter, celebration and welldeserved recognition. Congratulations once again to all of our Shining Star Award winners. Seeing each of you recognised for your dedication, compassion and outstanding contribution was one of the highlights of the evening. I hope you all left feeling incredibly proud, valued and appreciated for the difference you make to the lives of our residents, families and colleagues every single day. One of my proudest moments this summer was taking part in Race for Life Pretty Muddy at Beckenham Place Park. I was delighted to join 32 incredible colleagues as we tackled the muddy course together in support of Cancer Research UK. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our colleagues, families and friends, we raised £2,500.
In a wonderful gesture of support, our CEO, Ozzie Ertosun, matched every pound raised, doubling our fundraising impact and enabling us to donate £2,500 to Cancer Research UK and £2,500 to the Excelcare Foundation. It was a fantastic example of what we can achieve when we come together to support causes that mean so much to so many. Our fundraising efforts didn’t stop there. Across the Excelcare family, colleagues have continued to support a variety of wonderful charities and community organisations, including the Christmas Tree Farm and Buttercup Goat Sanctuary. Every event, donation and act of kindness reflects the caring values that make Excelcare so special and the positive difference we make beyond our homes.
Bailey has also written a wonderful article about her work experience, sharing what she learned, the memories she made and the friendships she formed. I hope you enjoy reading her story later in this edition of the Excelcare Voice. Seeing her confidence, kindness and creativity flourish has made me incredibly proud, and I would like to thank everyone across the Excelcare family who welcomed Bailey so warmly and gave her such a positive introduction to health and social care. Bailey’s experience also reminded me just how powerful giving your time can be. Whether it’s through work experience, volunteering or simply spending time with someone, those moments can make an enormous difference—not only to residents, but also to the person giving their time.
“every contribution therefore love to ask for helps us provide I’dyour support in two areas that are incredibly important support to to everyone: colleagues when Firstly, our Excelcare Foundation is here to support they need colleagues in their time of need, whether they are facing it most” illness, financial hardship or other
On a more personal note, this summer also gave me the chance to wear my proud mum hat. My 15 year old daughter, Bailey, joined Excelcare for her work experience and I couldn’t be prouder of everything she achieved. Rather than simply observing, Bailey embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, compassion and creativity. One of the highlights of her week was organising and hosting a fashion show for residents, bringing smiles, laughter and confidence to everyone involved.
What struck me most was not only how inspired Bailey became during her time with us, but also the positive impact she had on residents and colleagues. She spent time chatting with residents of Park Avenue Care Home, listening to their stories of past fashion and jobs they held, then used these conversations as the inspiration for the fashion show. Residents welcomed Bailey with open arms, sharing their own life experiences, wisdom and laughter. Watching those friendships grow reminded me that meaningful connections can happen at any age and that we all have something to learn from one another.
unexpected challenges. Our teams work incredibly hard every day, consistently going above and beyond to care for others, treating each resident with the same compassion and dedication they would show to their own family. That is why the foundation exists – to be there for colleagues when they need support the most. Since its creation, we have helped many team members through difficult times, providing financial assistance and practical support when it was needed most. We have received some truly heartfelt messages of thanks from colleagues whose lives have been positively impacted by the foundation, and these stories remind us what being part of the Excelcare family is all about – supporting one another through life’s challenges.

To continue this important work, we need your help. Whether you choose to take part in fundraising activities or make a donation, every contribution helps us provide support to colleagues when they need it most. Together, we can ensure that the Excelcare Foundation continues to make a meaningful difference to the people who dedicate so much of themselves to caring for others. Please feel free to email us for more info on how you may be able to help the foundation on info@excelcareholdings.com. Secondly, volunteering. One of the greatest gifts we can give another person is our time. We are always looking for volunteers to spend time in our homes, whether that’s helping with activities, supporting at mealtimes, reading together, playing games, sharing a hobby, enjoying a cup of tea and a chat or simply sitting with a resident who would value some companionship. If you have a family member, friend, neighbour, local school, college, youth group or community organisation who may enjoy becoming part of the Excelcare family, we’d love to hear from them. We also warmly welcome work experience students, who bring fresh ideas, enthusiasm and wonderful friendships into our homes whilst gaining invaluable life experience themselves. Imagine the difference we could make if every one of us inspired just one more volunteer or helped raise a little more for our charity. Together, we don’t just provide care—we create moments of joy, companionship and memories that last a lifetime. Alongside these fundraising successes, our homes have continued to create wonderful moments for the people we support, embracing the summer with celebrations, outings, activities and opportunities to make lasting memories. Whether enjoying garden parties, themed events, community visits or simply spending quality time together, it has been a joy to see so many smiles and to celebrate the dedication of our teams, who go above and beyond every single day.
I would also like to congratulate every home and every team who have celebrated achievements and milestones over the past few months. Your professionalism, compassion and commitment continue to make a real difference to the lives of the people we support, their families and one another. Every success, big or small, is a reflection of the exceptional people who make Excelcare what it is. Before I sign off, I’d like to leave you with one simple thought. Every smile matters. Every conversation matters. Every act of kindness matters. Whether you’re receiving care, visiting a loved one, working in one of our homes or supporting us through our communities, you all play an important part in making Excelcare such a special place. Thank you to our incredible residents for the joy, wisdom and friendships you bring to our homes. Thank you to our relatives for your trust, encouragement and continued support. Thank you to our amazing colleagues for your compassion, professionalism and dedication every single day. And thank you to everyone who supports our fundraising, volunteers their time or simply spreads kindness throughout our communities. Together, we’re creating more than care homes. We’re creating homes filled with love, laughter, friendship and memories that last a lifetime. So, with a cuppa in hand—and perhaps an ice cream instead of cookies this time—I invite you to sit back, relax and enjoy this edition of the Excelcare Voice.
With love and appreciation Sam X

I
n May, we proudly launched our brand-new website, marking an exciting milestone for Excelcare. The site has been redesigned to better support families, making it easier to access information, guidance, and reassurance when considering care.
Developed in partnership with our teams and informed by research into the needs of families navigating the care journey, the website is more than just a showcase of our homes. It serves as a central hub of information, offering helpful articles,
the latest news from across the group, webinars, newsletters, and resources to help families understand their options and feel supported every step of the way. The Communications, Engagement and Marketing team continues to make enhancements and refinements to ensure the best possible experience for users. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this project. Your ideas, feedback, and support helped make this fantastic achievement possible.

O
ver the past few months, our Senior Leadership Team from the Central Support Office have been visiting our care homes, and by the end of the year, every home across the Excelcare group will have welcomed a visit. As part of the first “ Your Voice Matters Roadshow”, these visits focused on what matters most – spending time with the people living in our homes, their families, and our dedicated team members. Through open and honest conversations, everyone had the opportunity to share their experiences, ideas, and feedback, helping to shape the future of

their home and the wider organisation. We are committed to listening to the voices of residents, families, and colleagues so we can continuously improve the care, support, and services we provide across all our homes. These conversations have given us valuable insight into what we are doing well and where we can do even better. More importantly, they have strengthened relationships, built trust, and reinforced our commitment to ensuring that the voices of residents, families, and team members remain at the heart of every decision we make.
Bailey Bear Creates Meaningful Moments across the Excelcare Family
T
o celebrate Sam’s birthday this summer, she sent our new Bailey Bear mascot on a very special adventure across our homes. Accompanied by a heartfelt message from Sam, Bailey Bear was sent to each care suite, thanking every home for providing a warm, welcoming environment for Bailey and all of her friends.
Every resident received their own mini Bailey Bear and a delicious Bailey Bear biscuit, while team members enjoyed a selection of treats. Bailey Bear also made a special appearance to help deliver the goodies, bringing smiles, laughter, and a sense of celebration to residents and teams alike. The initiative was a wonderful way to celebrate Sam’s birthday and recognise the dedication of our teams, whose care, kindness, and commitment create warm, welcoming homes for every resident.

Celebrating Angie Callus
I
n July, we bid farewell to Angie Callus, our beloved Purchase Ledger Manager as she sailed off into retirement.
Angie was a part of the Excelcare Family for over 26 years, and during this time, she played a vital role in our purchasing operations. Her dedication, commitment and wealth of knowledge helped to shape the way we work and we will forever be grateful for Angie’s contributions, which included, holding down the fort and being one of the only team members to work in the office throughout the covid outbreak. This spoke volumes about Angie’s character and is just one example of why she will always be so special to us. Angie’s positive nature, infectious smile and humour left an indelible mark on our family, and we gave her a lovely send-off at the Crown & Anchor pub in Bromley, and the heartfelt farewell she so richly deserved.

Leyla’s learning journey with Excelcare
L
eyla has been gaining valuable experience and developing her skills through placements at two of our care homes in London: Park Avenue and Peartree.
As the daughter of our CEO, Ozzie, she has been keen to learn every aspect of care home life. From working as a Domestic, Kitchen Assistant, Receptionist, Lifestyle Coordinator and Healthcare Assistant, she is now progressing as
a Team Leader while shadowing the nursing team. Throughout each role, Leyla has shown genuine dedication, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn. She has built wonderful relationships with the people living in our homes, always taking the time to chat, support, and brighten their days. Her natural compassion and enthusiasm have made her a valued member of the team, and it has been fantastic to see her confidence and skills grow with every new challenge. While she has enjoyed every role, her passion for being a Lifestyle Coordinator and now developing as a Team Leader has been particularly evident, and we look forward to seeing her continue to progress within the Excelcare Family.
Apprenticeship updates
A
t Excelcare, we are proud to support the career development of our colleagues through apprenticeships. From Human Resources and Payroll to Digital Transformation and Marketing, our team members are undertaking higherlevel qualifications that strengthen their professional expertise. A shining example of someone currently enrolled in an apprenticeship course is Sonnie, our Learning and Development Apprentice. Reflecting on his journey, Sonnie shared how the warm welcome and ongoing support from the Support Office team helped him to settle into his role with confidence.

Through his apprenticeship, he has developed valuable skills in communication, organisation and problemsolving, while gaining a deeper understanding of how Learning and Development contributes to both employee growth and business success. Looking back, Sonnie is proud of the progress he has made so far, becoming more confident, professional and adaptable, and is excited to continue developing his skills while making a positive contribution in the Learning and Development team.
Inspiring the Next Generation at Excelcare
W
e were delighted to welcome Davina, Sienna, Renee and Tayla to Excelcare for their work experience, giving them the opportunity to gain a real insight into life behind the scenes.
Throughout the week, they spent time with key business functions including HR, Recruitment and Communications, Engagement and Marketing, learning about the different roles that help to support our homes. They also completed a daily reflection journal, allowing them to track their progress and reflect on everything they had learned. To round off their placement, they planned and hosted a fantastic tropical-themed event for the office, complete with games, quizzes, prizes, snacks and sweet treats. The students even designed and displayed their own promotional posters to encourage everyone to get involved, and thanks to their enthusiasm and hard work, the
event was a huge success! It was a pleasure to have them as part of the Excelcare team, and we wish them every success in their future studies and careers.

this year’s Mr Bailey Awards by Excelcare’s Chief Operating Officer, Sam Manning. These prestigious awards recognise people who truly embody Excelcare’s values by going above and beyond to ensure residents receive the very best person-centred care. They also celebrate individuals who never settle for ‘good’, continually striving to improve and learn, even when delivering outstanding care. Each of this year’s winners exemplify these qualities. Director of Care, Quality and Governance, Wendy Cowell, received the coveted Mr Bailey Award in recognition of her dedication, commitment and the significant positive changes she has implemented since joining the company in 2021.
“Over the years, she has played a pivotal role in shaping the way we deliver quality care across Excelcare. Through her leadership, expertise and determination, she has helped strengthen governance, raise standards, and support our homes to achieve excellence,” said Sam Manning. “For many managers, she has been a source of reassurance during difficult moments—a calm voice when challenges arise. She helps people find solutions, build confidence and believe in their own abilities.”
This year, Sam also presented two additional Mr Bailey Awards to care homes that have achieved exceptional success and delivered outstanding outcomes for residents. Hunters Down Care Home, led by Anca Markley, and Longfield Care Home, managed by Gina Copsey, received the awards in recognition of their remarkable achievements over the past year. Following the ceremony, guests were invited onto the lawns of Braxted Park for the Retro Rewind Festival, where each decade from the 1920s through to the 2000s was brought to life with themed décor, food stalls and entertainment. The festival gave colleagues the opportunity to congratulate award winners, celebrate together and enjoy an afternoon of nostalgic fun in the sunshine. The event would not have been possible without the support of Excelcare CEO Osman ‘Ozzie’ Ertosun and Chief Operating Officer Sam Manning. Thanks
to the generous backing of Excelcare’s valued suppliers and partners, more than £3,500 was raised for the Excelcare Foundation, the company’s registered charity dedicated to supporting members of the Excelcare Family during life-changing circumstances. “Celebrating our Shining Star Awards is always a privilege. Without the incredible commitment and dedication of our team members, Excelcare would not be the award-winning provider we are today. These awards give me the opportunity to see how individual efforts make such a significant difference to the lives of those we care for, and it fills me with pride to call all of our deserving winners members of the
Excelcare Family,” said Excelcare CEO, Ozzie Ertosun. The Shining Star Awards once again provided a wonderful opportunity to recognise outstanding colleagues, celebrate their achievements and honour the incredible difference they make every day.

Activities Inspired by Memories: My Work Experience Week at Excelcare
By Bailey Manning, Year 10 Student at Coopers School
W
hen my school asked us to complete a week of work experience, I knew I wanted to do something creative that would help build my confidence and gain experience for the future. I was so excited to spend the week with the Communications, PR and Marketing team at Excelcare, where my mum, Sam Manning, has worked for an incredible 32 years and is the Chief Operating Officer (COO). I’m a Year 10 student at Coopers School in Chislehurst, and although I still have another year left at school, I’ll be starting Saturday Fashion College this September because fashion has always been my passion. At the start of the week, I thought I’d be learning about communications, marketing and social media. I never imagined I’d end up planning, styling and presenting my very own fashion show! The week began with a visit to Park Avenue Care Home, where I spent time chatting with residents about fashion throughout their lives. We talked about what they loved wearing when they were younger, the jobs they had, the clothes they wore for work, special occasions they remembered and the outfits that made them feel confident. Listening to everyone’s stories was honestly my favourite part of the week. It made me realise that fashion isn’t just about clothes. Every outfit tells a story and holds memories of people, places and moments that are important to us. As we left the home that day, my mind was full of ideas. I wanted to create a fashion show that celebrated the residents and the incredible lives they have lived. The next step was shopping. I was joined by Maddie, Lexie and Leyla, and together we visited local charity shops and high street stores looking for clothes, shoes and accessories inspired by the residents’ memories. Thanks to a very generous high street gift voucher from iDesign and to everyone that donated clothes for the event, we were able to choose outfits that really reflected the stories we’d heard. Shopping

together was so much fun and seeing all the ideas come together made me even more excited for the big day. Once the outfits were ready, the Communications, PR and Marketing team completely embraced my idea and volunteered to become my catwalk models. A huge thank you to Leyla, Lexie, Maddie, Sadie, Amelie, Jess, Josh and Sonnie, who all stepped onto the runway with confidence, enthusiasm and plenty of smiles. They made every outfit come to life and threw themselves into making the afternoon as special as possible. When the 16 July finally arrived, I couldn’t believe everything was ready. The garden at Park Avenue looked absolutely beautiful. The sun was shining, residents, relatives and team members gathered
[
as they recognised the inspiration behind the outfits. The Pimm’s was flowing, cake was enjoyed by everyone, and the garden was filled with laughter, cheers, applause and lots of friendly banter. Seeing so many happy faces made every minute of planning worthwhile. Park Avenue has always held a special place in my heart because my grandad used to live there. When I was younger, Mum and I visited him there regularly, so returning to organise my own event brought back so many happy memories. I know that if Grandad had been there, he would have absolutely loved the fashion show. I can imagine
Seeing my own event brought to life like that made me feel so proud
together and there was such a wonderful atmosphere from the moment everyone arrived. Cupid Installations transformed the garden with beautiful flowers and an amazing catwalk runway, making it feel like a real fashion event. One of my favourite surprises was seeing the beautiful “Welcome to Bailey’s Fashion Show” sign that had been designed and gifted by Sadie, Director of Communications, PR and Marketing. Seeing my own event brought to life like that made me feel so proud, and it’s something I’ll treasure forever. As the music began, each model walked down the catwalk while I introduced every outfit, explaining which resident had inspired the look and why. Every outfit represented someone’s story. Some celebrated favourite colours, others reflected careers, special memories or timeless fashion that residents remembered wearing when they were younger. It was so lovely seeing residents smiling
]
him sitting in the audience, laughing, clapping and cheering everyone on. It meant so much that my nan came along to support me. Having her there made the day even more emotional and reminded me just how special Park Avenue will always be to my family. At the end of the show, I thanked everyone for coming and for supporting my very first fashion show. I told everyone how much I’d loved spending time getting to know the residents throughout the week. Listening to their stories and using those memories as inspiration had been such a privilege. I also thanked the Communications, PR and Marketing team for welcoming me, believing in my ideas and trusting me to lead a real project. They encouraged me every step of the way and happily swapped their desks for the catwalk to help make my vision become a reality. Finally, I thanked my mum. She has always encouraged me to believe in myself, follow my dreams and never be afraid to try new things. If it wasn’t for her, I

don’t think I would have had the confidence to organise something like this. She has always been there for me, helping me grow in confidence and believing in me every step of the way. As I looked over at her while I was speaking, I noticed a little tear behind her glasses. Afterwards she told me how proud she was of me, and hearing those words meant more than I can ever explain. Just when everyone thought the afternoon

]
was over, the music started again. Residents couldn’t resist joining in. One by one, they took to the catwalk themselves, smiling from ear to ear as they proudly showed off their own model walks. The cheering got louder, the laughter continued and before long everyone was singing together to round off the afternoon. Watching the residents confidently walking the runway was my favourite moment of the whole week. It reminded me that this wasn’t really about fashion. It was about celebrating people’s lives. It was about listening to stories, bringing back treasured memories, building confidence, bringing generations together and creating moments of happiness that everyone could share. When I arrived for my work experience, I hoped I’d learn about PR and marketing. I certainly did. But I also learned that the best ideas come from listening, that fashion has the power to tell stories, and that a simple idea can bring so much joy to so many people. This has been one of the most inspiring weeks of my life, and I know I’ll never forget it. It’s made me even more excited to start Fashion College in September and continue following my dream of working in the fashion industry one day.

PAMMS Excellence in Cambridge
B
uchan House, Brook House, and Primrose Croft Care Home have been celebrating after achieving ‘Excellent’ ratings in their PAMMS Inspections. To achieve this rating, a care home must demonstrate exceptional standards across five key areas: Involvement and Information, Personalised Care and Support, Safeguarding and Safety, Suitability of Staffing, and Quality of Management. While PAMMS is separate from the CQC inspection framework,
it reflects many of the same standards and expectations. The inspection helps to identify opportunities for improvement while also recognising areas where a home is performing exceptionally well.
quality support must not only be delivered compassionately but also documented effectively, alongside a continued commitment to safeguarding, safe staffing levels, and strong leadership.
Achieving an ‘Excellent’ rating is a significant accomplishment and reflects the collective effort of the entire team. Every aspect of the home must work seamlessly together, with strong communication, collaboration, and a consistent focus on person-centred care. High-

Fundraising and Charity Excelcare Team Members Take Part in ‘Pretty Muddy’ Charity Run
I
n early July, thirty-three members of the Excelcare family laced up their running shoes to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life Pretty Muddy 5K at Beckenham Place Park.
After celebrating her birthday by taking part in the event last year, Chief Operating Officer, Sam Manning, was inspired by the teamwork and camaraderie she experienced, making her eager to return this year. Team members from Excelcare’s Support Office in Bromley and care homes across the group joined Sam for this year’s challenge, putting their fitness to the test while raising funds for two important causes: Cancer Research UK and The Excelcare Foundation.
During the session, participants heard powerful stories from people affected by cancer, who shared their personal reasons for taking part. It was a moving moment that encouraged everyone to reflect on the loved ones and colleagues in their own lives who have been impacted by Cancer. Over the 5K course, the team jogged, walked, crawled and slid their way through a series of muddy obstacles. Their determination was matched only by their support for one another, with plenty of memorable moments along the way. Sonnie helped teammates by holding up the netting at one obstacle to make it easier for everyone to pass through, while Maddie and Sam crossed the finish line hand in hand in a heartwarming display of teamwork.
Before the race began, the team gathered at the starting line in their charity T-shirts for a group warm-up led by the Pretty Muddy event team.
Ain’t no mountain high enough for Anc
I
n June, Hunters Down Home Manager, Anca Markley and her husband put on their walking shoes and reached the summit of Ben Nevis.
Anca’s ambition for this challenge was to test her physical endurance while raising money for the Excelcare Foundation.
The Excelcare Foundation was there to support Anca when she faced health challenges, so she wanted to give back and raise funds for our registered charity, enabling it to continue

supporting colleagues across the Excelcare family. Anca and her husband successfully reached the summit in what can only be described as “treacherous conditions” – making their achievement even more remarkable. And to top it off, Anca raised over £1,400 for the Excelcare Foundation – an achievement she should be very proud of indeed. Well done, Anca, and thank you for choosing to support the Excelcare Foundation.
The bright pink tops they started the race in were barely recognisable by the end. Despite the mess, every participant crossed the finish line smiling, proud of what they had achieved together and the memories they had made along the way. After collecting their medals and posing for a group photo, the team celebrated with a well-earned picnic in the park and some time to relax after their achievement. To top it all off, the team raised an incredible £2,500. In an inspiring show of support, Excelcare CEO Ozzie Ertosun generously matched the total, meaning more than £5,000 was donated to each
charity, helping both Cancer Research UK and The Excelcare Foundation continue their vital work. A huge congratulations to everyone who took part and supported this fantastic fundraising effort.
Anca!

he Excelcare Foundation is our registered charity, that was created to provide support to team members and members of our extended family when they face illness or life-changing circumstances.
The work we do with the Excelcare Foundation wouldn’t be possible without the support of people who donate towards our fundraising events and the generosity of our Chairman, Ozzie.
