In the News Excela Starting to Offer COVID-19 Vaccines to Public When Available; Most Staffers Immunized February 17

“So far, more than 24,000 Westmoreland residents have received one dose of vaccine, while about 12,000 have received both shots, according to figures from the state health department. Statewide, more than 1.3 million residents have received one shot, with 436,000 having received both, the state reported Wednesday.”

If you’re newly diagnosed with high blood pressure or it’s something you’ve been managing for years, you may already know that keeping your sodium intake under control is a key factor in keeping your blood pressure in check.

Are You Smarter Than a Food Label Dawn Davoli, RD, a consultant with Excela Health in partnership with Hempfield Township Parks & Recreation, will host this virtual event.

Discussion is focused on sample food labels and includes serving size, calories, the 5/20 rules, listed nutrients and current updates to the nutrition facts. At the end of this 20-minute presentation, the food label will serve as a friend in choosing healthy food options. Please have a food label from some item in your pantry. Examples include: cereal box, cracker box, soup, etc.

Breast Health and the COVID-19 Vaccine The Society of Breast Imaging has recently published considerations for patients and providers regarding scheduling of screening mammography.

It has been found that the COVID-19 vaccination may cause reactive axillary adenopathy or enlarged lymph nodes.

When possible, and does not delay care, it is recommended that patients schedule annual screening mammography prior to the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccination or four to six weeks following the second dose of a COVID-19 vaccination.

A Word on Wellness The Well-Being Center strives to provide the most focused programs in fitness, exercise, nutrition and stress management for Excela Health employees.

Why are biometric screenings important?

A biometric screening is the source for which our data is collected. The Well-Being Center is then able to use the data to create programs specifically targeting the problems facing Excela Health employees. A biometric screening consists of height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, blood cholesterol and blood glucose.

What happens to the data?

The data is stored securely and privately within the MyBioCheck program. This provides a comprehensive overall aggregate report scoring us as an organization over the past three wellness years.

What is the wellness focus of 2021?

There are three main areas of focus in 2021: improvement in tobacco use, which has a strong relationship to our tobacco free environment (latest policy), obesity/weight management rates slightly inclined, and blood pressure declined (Both obesity and blood pressure could be a direct correlation with the ensuing pandemic for which WBC has created several strong initiatives (Unplug and Recharge, virtual group exercise, virtual nutritional counseling) View all that the Well-Being Center has to offer here.

The aggregate report for Wellness Year 2020 is now available! The Wellness Year is from October 1 to September 30. The aggregate report card summarizes areas of potential health concern for participants in the biometric screenings. The report focuses on blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, weight management and cholesterol. Excela Health’s cumulative grade is a B-, the same as 2019 and 2018.
