Designer’s Corner When searching for properties to purchase in the area, you may notice that many are need in of a little updating. Don’t be discouraged! With amazing local interior designers like Kristin Dittmar working on your behalf, you can create your perfect Aspen-Snowmass getaway that checks all the boxes. Engel & Völkers spoke with Kristin to get her inside scoop on ideas, recommendations and trends. E&V: For those looking to improve a property on a small scale, what areas of the home have the biggest impact? KD: I have found that many of these homes have very dark interiors, with dark stained ceilings and old stone walls. I try everything I can to make them lighter and brighter. A good starting point to remodel is the kitchen. If you can open up the kitchen to the rest of the living area, it makes the home flow better. E&V: What are your 5 design tricks to bring a home up to date? KD:

1) Undermount sinks 2) White toilets 3) Removing carpet from bathrooms for tile 4) Opening up the living spaces; people love floor plans 5) Lighter walls in main living areas

E&V: How would you describe your overall aesthetic? KD: I pride myself in a “mountain modern” style that’s comfortable and chic. I love to work with different natural textures. Of course, I love white! E&V: What’s your favorite space to decorate in a home? KD: This all depends on the project but I think bathrooms are fun to design because of all the textures and materials I’m able to use. 36 E&V
