Pamper Someone Special This Mother’s Day With Plant- Based Products That Make Your Skin Happy!

n September of last year, Knoxville got its own Soap Makery - Buff City Soap. Known for its fresh, hand-crafted soaps made daily in-store by local Makers, Buff City Soap has more than 25 unique and customizable scents across dozens of hand-crafted soap products, including its famous soap bars, bath bombs, foaming hand soap, and even laundry soap. Located in the Turkey Creek Pinnacle at 11277 Parkside Drive in Suite 516, Buff City Soap has created a higher quality alternative to commercial soap that is free from harsh chemicals, detergents, animal fats, and sulfates and full of nourishing plant-based goodies to make your skin happy! With every product being made in a bakery-like setting called a Soap Makery, customers are able to watch their products being hand-crafted right in front

of their eyes - giving them the opportunity to customize any product while seeing the whole making process live. “After watching Buff City grow from the ground up and becoming faithful customers ourselves, we knew it was time to get involved with the brand,” states Brittany Vick, co-owner, “We cannot wait to help grow Buff City Soap’s presence in Tennessee, and we are confident that the Turkey Creek Pinnacle community will absolutely love our array of delightfully scented, hand-crafted products.” Jessica Pace, also co-owner, echoes that sentiment by saying “Buff City Soap offers quality, handmade soap products that I believe in and stand by 100%!” Owned and operated here in Knoxville by partners Jamie Mason, Jessica Pace, Vince Sartori, Michelle Stokes, and Brittany Vick, they plan to greatly expand their Buff City Soap locations during the next few years. New locations recently opened in Kingsport, Tennessee in November and Powell, Tennessee, last December. East Tennessee’s Mountain Views was able to talk to Brittany Vick and Jessica Pace about Buff City Soap’s Knoxville presence and why they feel this unique

industries, we quickly recognized a unique opportunity with Buff City Soap. Founded in 2013, Buff City Soap is on a mission to create handmade personal care and home products free of harsh ingredients and full of plant-based nutrients. BV: Can I get on a soapbox for a minute? Most of the “trusted brands” we’re all used to washing with are made with detergents, chemicals, and tallow, which is just another name for cow fat (umm… gross). Sulfates, artificial detergents, and parabens can cause irritation, trigger allergies, and have other unpleasant side effects. That doesn’t exactly say “refreshing shower” to us. So our aim was to find an alternative. The answer - Buff City Soap! ETMV: What makes Buff City Soap different from other soap shops? BV: Each bar of Buff City soap is hand-crafted in what we call our Soap Makeries. Every soap item sold here is made here, where you can see exactly what goes into the products you put on your body. We love that we can provide our customers with an experiential shopping experience. JP: Our mission is to create handmade products that are full of skin nourishing, plant-based ingredients - no harsh chemicals. Buff City products are fresh and made in our Soap Makery daily with ingredients you can pronounce. Get any product with any of our signature scents. Once you go Buff, you’ll never go back! ETMV: What exactly is a Soap Makery? BV: Our store allows shoppers to experience the soap making process and have input in the type of skin care products they want to use. With as much fun as it is to make soap, we couldn’t keep it all to ourselves! Our Soap Makery offers co-creation opportunities for all ages and all occasions. Any day that you pop into the Buff City Soap Makery, we’ll be right here creating or customizing a soap, body butter, laundry soap, and so much more. JP: Just pick out your favorite scent, and we’ll show you how we make the

magic happen! We might need your help drizzling the final touch on some bath bombs or tossing fragrance into a batch of laundry soap. Be sure to bring the kiddos along - we always put on a good show to entertain them while you shop! ETMV: Will you tell our readers more about your signature scents and ingredients? BV: We have a bit of a “mad lab” stocked with ingredients like gardenia petals, lemon zest, hemp seed oil, shea butter, charcoal, and tea tree oil. Even our body scrubs are squeaky clean with natural exfoliants like chopped loofah bits, crushed walnut shells, and poppy seeds. JP: As far as our signature scents go, our Narcissist soap is one of our most beloved fragrances - it smells like Peachwood & Me Time! With notes of peaches, raspberries, and patchouli sandalwood, Narcissist scents combine to create the most wonderful aroma! BV: What you will never see in our products are artificial detergents, surfactants, dyes, or other harsh chemicals. We have our fragrances specifically manufactured for us to ensure they are free of phthalates, parabens, and formaldehyde

containing/forming ingredients. You can customize your products with the scent (or non-scent!) of your choice and the ingredients that you prefer. The possibilities are endless! ETMV: Describe some of your unique products and their benefits. JP: In addition to our natural, plantbased bars of soap, we carry a wide selection of other personal care products - from bath bombs to shower fizzies, body butters to face creams, shave soaps to beard oils. Our products let you put the best ingredients on your skin every day. BV: We also carry scent customizable laundry soap that is free of harsh chemicals - only the good stuff! - and proudly hand-crafted here in the U.S. It keeps clothes soft and smelling fresh while preventing that starchy feeling that some detergents can cause. Once you use Buff City Laundry Soap, you will never want to go back to anything else! ETMV: What kind of help can you offer our readers in search of that OHSO special Mother’s Day Gift? BV: We’ve been busy dreaming up exciting new scents for Mom this Mother’s Day. JP: With so many amazing scents and plant based products handmade daily, you

uff City Soap has recently created a new soap called “Birthday Song,” which gets its name from the Centers for Disease Control’s recommendation of singing the “Happy Birthday Song” to yourself twice while washing your hands with warm water to safely clean your hands. Heritage Family Dentistry

Dedicated – Compassionate – Caring S omewhat apprehensive about undergoing a dental implant procedure, Lynette Desper relied entirely upon her previously positive experiences at Heritage Family Dentistry. “I have never been apprehensive about visiting the dentist,” said Lynette. “I wore full metal braces for four years when I was in junior high, so I have never had any problems visiting the dentist.” However, this was an entirely new procedure for her. “Dr. Bradshaw has provided excellent dental care for me,” said Lynette. “I’ve had crown work done, regular fillings and cleanings, and the most important was my dental implants. I was apprehensive about THAT procedure, but Dr. Bradshaw and his staff worked with me, going above and beyond to make sure that I had a positive experience. It took some time to talk me into the procedure, and the staff was very patient and comforting in easing my fears. “I have always had a positive experience with the staff and Dr. Bradshaw. They are always so caring and helpful, and they go out of their way to make you feel comfortable in their office. You feel a sense of ‘family’ in their office, and you can tell that they truly care about not only each other, but their patients as well. “I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Bradshaw and the staff at Heritage Family Dentistry. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Bradshaw and Heritage Family Dentistry to anyone! They have been one of my most favorite healthcare professionals I have ever dealt with. They genuinely care about their patients, and it shows!” If you are in search of a team of dedicated, compassionate, and caring dental professionals for yourself or your entire family, why not trust the Heritage Family Dentistry team just like Lynette has? May Highlights

From the Publisher

hen May is mentioned, it brings to mind spring flowers, weddings, graduations and of course, Mother s Day. Moms are celebrated for all that they do for their families and the influence they have in shaping their children’s lives. I was brought up in the 50’s when it was not common for women to work outside the home. But my mom and dad dreamed of owning their own home and to make their dream a reality, my mom elected to go to work. When my dad came home from his day shift at the Post Office, my mom was off to her second shift billing clerk job for a trucking company and coming home late into the evening. But she was always up bright and early to make us all breakfast and see me and my sister off to school. I admire my mother for the work ethic she inspired. And after my parent’s home Everything Knoxville is now out was built, my mom continued to work so we could enjoy little extras as we grew up. on distribution. Are You Paying Too Much for Medicare? By Yvonne Marsh, CFP®, CPA

edicare is tricky - it’s an alphabet soup of “Parts” and “Plans” that each have their own costs, and the total monthly premiums quickly add up. Here are two ways to make sure you’re not overpaying. First, many people don’t realize that your Part B premium cost is based on the tax return you filed two years ago. So for 2021, the government is looking at your 2019 return. While the base monthly cost is $148.50 in 2021, if you made more than $176k as a joint filer ($88k single), they’re going to hit you with a surcharge, called IRMAA (Income Related Medicare Adjustment Amount). IRMAAs range from an extra $59 to $356 per month for Part B and $12 to $77 per month for Part D. Let’s say you retire and start Medicare in 2021, so they’re looking at your 2019

tax return to determine your Part B premium - when you were making a lot more money than you are now, being retired. It doesn’t seem fair that you should have to pay that extra surcharge, right? Right. And there’s a form for that… Form SSA-44, where you can request a waiver of that IRMAA surcharge and not have to pay it!

Our Customers Say It Best. “From start to finish, every team member at Slamdot was courteous, professional, and timely. I am so grateful, and I highly recommend them!”

- Amanda Pittman Animal Wellness and Rehabilitation Center

In fact, if you’ve had income decrease for lots of life-changing events - divorce, death of a spouse, work reduction, etc. - you can use the same form to apply for an IRMAA waiver. Technically, it doesn’t apply if you have a large capital gain in a year that does not repeat in future years, but I’ve had two clients apply for the IRMAA waiver under that circumstance and been approved, so it’s definitely worth a try. Second, you can shop your Medicare Supplement policy for the cheapest price all year round - not just during open enrollment in the fall. All Med Supp plans offer the same benefits by Plan letter, so you’re literally searching for the cheapest price. We also began utilizing FaceTime and video calling so that customers could shop with us right from home and could avoid trips to our stores to see the

Throughout this pandemic, we’ve learned new ways to help our customers, and have worked toward improving each and every customer’s experience with our company. We are blessed with the amazing support of our communities who value shopping local and supporting small businesses. For that, we want to say thank you for supporting a local, family-owned business for the last 55 years, but most importantly last year with the pandemic going on and continuing into this year. We wouldn’t be here without your continued support. Thank you from our entire team to you and your family.

droppings from the now exposed topside areas of our boat, the boat owners in the slip across from ours arrived. They pressed their key fob; their Touchless Cover was fully raised in 30 seconds or less. They lowered their boat lift, started their outboard engine and were off in 5 minutes or less. On a recent outing on the lake, we pressed our key fob. While our Touchless Cover was rising, we lowered our boat lift. We turned on the battery, started the blower and after the required interval, started our engine. We were off for an enjoyable day on the lake. And yes, we’re using our boat far more than before.

And the spiders? I can’t explain it. They’ve mostly disappeared. And our newly detailed boat looks just like it did on the showroom floor in 2007. Like a Garage For Your Family Boat

By Tom Irmen

he 2021 boating season is about to get underway and so is the season of endless boat detailing if you don’t own a Touchless Boat Cover System from Lifetime Docks, LLC. Like other area boaters, we frequently see boats in docks, both private and some community docks that are protected by Touchless Boat Cover System. The concept is a simple one...create a garage for your boat that protects your watercraft like your home’s garage protects your vehicles. But it wasn’t until multiple boat owners on our community dock in Rarity Bay installed the Touchless Boat Cover that we made the decision to make the investment by redirecting a portion of the money we saved from a canceled 2020 Mediterranean cruise. Previously when we arrived at our dock for a day on the lake, we had to first clear away the cobwebs from the sides of our boat. Then we removed the straps that secured our boat cover and then removed the cover. We shook the cover off to shake off the spiders that remained before folding the cover and placing it in our dock box. We would wash the bird and spider droppings off the cover when we returned. Before we had started to wipe the cobwebs and spider

ur PLACE will be a licensed, nonprofit, nonsectarian adult day center serving Loudon, Monroe County, and surrounding community residents who have been diagnosed with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. The new facility will be Our Legacy of caring and assistance for those who need our help. Our PLACE will operate five days a week: Monday-Friday. Each engraved brick costs $200 and will include three lines of the donor’s choosing. For those wishing to donate more to make a lasting impact on the community, we offer the “Build Our Legacy” sponsorship program. The Monroe County Animal Shelter and the Monroe County Friends of Animals are here for YOU…the residents of Monroe County

f you are no longer able to care for your pet, please call or email the shelter to schedule an appointment to surrender your pet. Everything possible, including medical attention, food, fresh water, testing, altering and flea/tick/heartworm preventive applied, will be done, and your pet will be put up for adoption. Please don’t just dump or abandon your pets. Their future is not promising once let loose-it is NOT safe for them. Shelter contact information: animal.shelter@monroetn.com or call 423-442-1015 Tuesday-Friday from 11-4:30 and Saturdays from 11-2. To report strays or abused pets, contact: City of Madisonville, TN - call Animal Control at 423-519-1008 City of Sweetwater, TN - call City Hall at 423-337-6979 and ask for Animal Control Monroe County, TN - call the Sheriff’s Department at 423-572-1124, choose option #4 and ask for Animal Control. It is mating season (well that never stops, really) Please

get your pets altered! SNAP/MCFA offers free SpayNeuter Vouchers monthly (when grant funds are available) to qualified Monroe County residents. The PPAW Spay Neuter Clinic in Greenback (Facebook page: https:// www.facebook.com/PPAWSpayNeuterClinic ) offers Low Cost Spay or Neuter surgeries for EVERYONE! Not location or income specific. Sometimes they have grant money for special deals that even include vaccinations! There is NO excuse to not get this done! You are VERY lucky to live in a County that offers this voucher option and is very close to a low-cost clinic. THIS is the solution to the pet overpopulation and the enormous shelter intake. Please take advantage of these benefits. Please maintain control of your pet’s “wanderings” and getting lost. Keep you cats inside and your dogs on a secure leash or harness at all times when outside. Keep a collar with name tags on at all times. Do not leave your pet unattended-EVER. Lots of animals (small) are picked up by large birds, some are stolen right out of your yardand the thief is so considerate to leave you their collar to let you know that your pet has been stolen. Prevent losing a pet-this is your responsibility. If your un-fixed female pet does disappear, chances are IF she comes home, she will have been impregnated-if your unfixed male disappears, chances are he will be impregnating multiple females-more unwanted puppies and kittens-and this is why our small shelter fills up very fast. Microchips are available for $10 at the shelter during normal business hours. Please make sure your pet is chipped, has a collar AND has a tag with your CURRENT contact information. Make sure your information on the microchip website is also always current and update the pet’s picture as needed. Be sure you always have a good picture of your pet in

case you need it. If you have lost or found a pet, please contact the shelter immediately and post to the shelter Facebook page (with a picture) TN Monroe County Animal Shelter. You must go to the shelter every day or every other day to look for yourself to see if someone has turned in your pet. The stray hold time goes very fast and your pet could be adopted out after the stray hold. The shelter will not release adoption information if your pet gets adopted. PLEASE put in a location or general location of where your pet was last seen-this is critical information. Other Facebook pages to utilize also: Help Me Home! Lost and Found Pets of Monroe County, TN – The #1 Lost and Found Animals in McMinn County and Surrounding Counties – Lost Pets in TN McMinn, Polk, Monroe Counties and any “yard sale” type pages for Monroe County. Please also post to www. Pawboost.com ….they do have free posts! If you have found a pet, please take it to the shelter to be scanned for a microchip and to see if someone has reported that pet as lost-not everyone uses Facebook, but most will report a lost pet to the shelter. Yes, you can also take to a vet to be scanned for a chip but they do not have access to lost pet reports. If you take to a vet and no chip is found, please still report the found pet to the shelter with a location found and a good picture. Monroe County Animal Shelter is located at 170 Kefauver Lane in Madisonville (behind Wal-Mart) and is open Tuesday-Friday from 11-4:30 and Saturdays from 11-2. Email animal.shelter@monroetn.com or call 423442-1015 to schedule a meet & greet with a pet. The Show Must Go On

fter being forced to table all live fashion show activities for almost a year, The Lily Pad is delighted to let you know that we are resuming our successful service to your club, group or other organization, starting now! We are proud of the way our crew weathered the storm with virtual and zoom responses to the Pandemic, but there is nothing Brenda & Ivy like real live interaction with you, our friends and supporters. So we are excited The Lily Pad Boutique to start taking bookings to share fashion 209 N. Main Street trends to live audiences, while helping Sweetwater, TN 37874 your organization raise funds, or just for 423-337-5537 entertainment. And, as always, the event www.lilypadboutiqueonline.com comes to you free of charge! Mon-Sat: 10am-5:30pm Models from your group are fitted by our staff in Lily Pad fashions, showcasing @shopthelilypad

the most wonderfully diverse looks, direct from the store. Usually 8-10 models will showcase 3-4 outfits each, complete with accessories, and we provide the commentary and transport the fashions to your venue. These are the same outfits we purchase for each season, by personally attending markets to buy the latest, most fashionable merchandise for our customers at our store and through our Internet sales. We love this opportunity to give back to our surrounding areas in this way, providing these events to your groups. For 4 decades and several generations, The Lily Pad has produced fund-raising fashion shows from Knoxville to Chattanooga and everywhere in between. Most organizations sell tickets for between $15 to $25 or $50 to raise

money for your particular cause. You select your models and we’ll take it from there, reaching out to set up their fitting times and handling all the details. Most groups include a light lunch on the show date, often with door prizes donated by your local merchants, who are happy for the opportunity to be affiliated with your charity or organization. We hope you will join us in the trouble-free and profitable event in the near future. We know we can plan all our previous hosts to grab a date immediately, and hope to meet many new groups now that the events are resuming. Dates will fill up quickly, so if you want to discuss details, ask questions, or book your date for a day of fashion and fun, call The Lily Pad now.

~ Good Days, Bad Days, and Going Half Mad Days ~

ithout exception, everyone who has ever made a salon visit has dealt with this title on more than a few occasions. There is the perfect haircut and style that can never be duplicated again, the unexplained bad haircut and style after years of never having one, and the sitting in the waiting area wondering why your provider is twenty minutes late. Each one of these most likely has to deal with Good Days, Bad Days, and Going Half Mad Days.

First, the perfect haircut that is difficult to duplicate usually happens on the good days. Every stylist experiences the good days, and some experience them more than others. If I knew what made the ‘good days’, I wouldn’t be writing this column, but instead writing a bestselling book on how to only have ‘good days’. Some days, everything a stylist tries works to perfection without complication or even considerable thought. Experienced stylists have

learned to appreciate these days, and no longer try to identify the cause of them. Next is the ‘bad days’. Most everyone has experienced the bad haircut from their provider after Brian K. Whitehead years of consistently good ones. Managing Partner These incidents can be attributed The Village Salon to the ‘bad days’. There are far too many contributing factors to Village Salon list that can lead to the bad days, The 222 Village Square in Tellico Village but the fact is that no one is immune 865-458-9332 to them. Just like the ‘good days’, thevillagesalon@aol.com some stylists have more bad days than others and if your provider has them on a regular basis, it is probably something you should speak to them about. Sadly, there are also ‘going half mad days’. Stylist leaves for work and on the way hits a deer on the parkway. Arrives at work to find that their first guest is going to be fifteen minutes late. Guest also wants hi-lites to go with their hair color in addition to them being fifteen minutes late. Haircut guest scheduled during the processing time of the first guest’s hair color is getting cranky about having to wait for twenty five minutes. This scenario is quite common, and can easily lead to the stylist having one of those ‘going half mad days’. Get a feel for your provider, and make sure you enjoy the good days, and survive the bad days and going half mad days. With a little effort, you should easily be able to determine what kind of day your provider is having, and then you can make your hair decisions accordingly.

A few items to consider in 2021 Required Minimum Distributions (RMD’s)

The CARES Act waived required minimum distributions from 401(k)’s and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) for 2020. At this time that waiver only applies to 2020 and is not extended to 2021. The age at which a taxpayer is required to start their RMD is now age 72. It was moved from the previous age of 70.5 to age 72. Individuals turning age 72 in 2021 must take their RMD by year-end or they can delay their payment until April 18, 2022. Those who continue to work past 72 can postpone until they retire, if they do not own more than 5% of the company that employs them. Individual who donates to charity should consider a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from their IRA to the charity. These payments meet the requirements for their RMD and avoid the amount donated being reported on their tax return as a taxable distribution. For those taxpayers who do not have enough to itemize their deductions, this is a way to in effect deduct their charitable donations contributed via the QCD and to take full advantage of the standard deduction.

A revamp of the child credit for 2021 could catch some parents by surprise

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

increased the child tax credit from $2,000 to $3,000, $3,600 for children under the age of 6 and extends the credit to those who are 17. The revamped credit is now fully refundable, and the IRS will pay 50% of the credit in advance to qualifying families. The IRS is scheduled to start sending periodic payments starting in July and provides for the payments to be completed by December 31. Taxpayers should be aware that these advance payments could reduce the credits they normally received when they file their taxes. They should anticipate the impact of these advance payments could have when they file their taxes. And it also appears, if the taxpayers are not entitled to the credits received in advance, they may be paid back when they file their taxes. The law also requires the IRS to develop an on-line tool for families to update changes to their adjusted gross income or circumstances. The system will have the ability to compute and recompute payments as taxpayers provide new information. It will also be able to issue and track payments. Taxpayers can also elect out of the advance payments if they choose. Due to the increase in potential fraud, there is concern over the security of this system. The IRS estimates it paid over $7.2 billion in refundable child tax credits improperly.

Your chances of getting audited by the IRS may have increased

Over the past several years, the number of taxpayers audited by the IRS has decreased. Some data on most returns can be audited through automation and most returns are subjected to some audit procedures every year. For example, wage statements (W2), 1099’s, 1098’s, Schedules K-1 and other statements submitted each year to the IRS by issuing third partied can be verified and matched to the taxpayers returns. And some audits are “correspondence audits” whereby the IRS requests documentation from the taxpayer to be submitted to the IRS via the mail while a reduced number of taxpayers have been called into the IRS office or are visited by an IRS agent. Recently it was announced an increase in the number of large partnerships are coming, as well as the number of audits of high-income individuals. Many tax law changes being announced in Washington

have also stated, selected tax law changes could be funded by an increase in the number of IRS audits. Can you deduct the donation for the use of your vacation home in a charitable auction? Unfortunately, no. You do not get a tax deduction. Technically, you have only donated a partial interest, which does not qualify for a deduction. And the number of days used of the vacation home count as personal days used.

Need information from a return you have filed.

Through an IRS on-line tool, you can now a printout of a summary of key tax information on your return. If you need a copy of the entire return you will need to file Form 4506 with the IRS and pay $43 per return. The tax professionals at WarrenJackson can assist you in unraveling the complexity of the Tax Code. Contact one of our professionals today.

Tired of Wire?

Custom Storage Spaces Replace Inefficient Wire Shelving

as this ever happened to you? You are getting something out of your wire system closet and suddenly, your clothes collapse on the ground in a tangled heap. Or all the items in your old wire pantry crash to the floor in the middle of the night. If it hasn’t yet, it probably will! Whether a new house or an old one, many homeowners face a common problem: A pre-made wire closet system. Wire is inexpensive, but in the end, is cheaper better? While wire is certainly adequate and easy to install yourself, the non-adjustable hanging and shelving doesn’t utilize all the storage space available. Additionally, there’s a probability of an untimely failure. “We often receive calls from homeowners asking for a custom design after their wire pantry collapses or they come home to find all their clothes dumped on the floor,” said Kathryn Norton, designer and co-owner of Tailored Living of Knoxville. “There can be inherent structure problems with wiring since the anchoring system is not sufficient to support hundreds of pounds of clothes or pantry items.” A custom closet is not only more durable, it also: Maximizes Storage – A custom closet design adds 3040% more storage space than wire or do-it-yourself kits. Fits Any Budget – A custom closet by Tailored Living doesn’t have to mean expensive. An experienced designer can help meet almost any budget. A simple design will still maximize the available storage space. Offers Adjustability – As your needs change, shelves and rods can be adjusted - converting shelves to hanging and vice versa - with no damage to the system or sheetrock. For kids’ closets and pantries, adjustability is a must. Provides Better Organization – There’s a place for everything, and everything has a place. No more emotional stress over feeling disorganized. Increases Home Value - Whether moving in a few years or not, professionally designed closets are high on the list of features homebuyers want. The amount of square footage a home has doesn’t matter as much as how well the space inside is used. Whether classic white or a wood-grain finish, the difference is dramatic both in appearance and usability. Once you have a custom closet, pantry, or laundry room, you will never settle for wire again!

Designing and Installing Beautiful, Custom Shutters, Shades, Blinds and Draperies for You “Our designers work with you to identify your individual tastes and needs. And by working closely with you, and by combining our years of design expertise, we can create window treatment designs that are a reflection of who you are. It’s this approach that enables us to put our client’s personal touches on on their newly constructed or forever home.”

aunched in 2013, Express Blinds founder and local entrepreneur Darla Zorn, combined her extensive experience in the window treatments marketplace with her desire to interact directly with her clients, to earn her and Express Blinds, Shutters, Shades & Drapes a reputation for design excellence and incredible value. Offering an extensive line of blinds, shutters, shades and drapes, Darla and her team of experienced and talented designers can help you to create that “look” and “feel” that expresses your unique individuality and tastes. Their passion for window fashion has been recognized by area custom builders and designers, resulting in Express Blinds being selected as the preferred source for custom window treatments. East Tennessee Mountain Views readers are likely already familiar with Express Blinds and their designs which are featured annually in the Home Builders Parade of Homes in both Knoxville and Tellico Village. Recently, East Tennessee’s Mountain Views asked Darla about the evolution of the window treatments marketplace since first launching Express Blinds and just how she and her team can assist home and business owners alike to create those “oh-so” perfect, showcase quality window designs. ETMV: What inspired you to launch Express Blinds? Darla: I began my window treatment career in the franchise blinds industry prior to launching Express Blinds. I loved every minute of this experience. It was my positive interactions with showroom clients that led to my desire to work even more closely with our clients. I discovered just how much more creative I could become when visiting our clients homes. Having always strived to create a beautiful home for my family, I recognized early on that updating window coverings was a great way to change the look and feel of a space. With confidence in my success, a strong work ethic and the support of my family, Express Blinds was launched in 2013. ETMV: Darla, what would you say was the most important lesson you have earned thus far? Darla: Not surprisingly, that your reputation is the most important asset that any company possesses. Ignore it, and it can become your single greatest liability. That’s why we invest in continuing education for our design and installation teams. That’s why we have such an extensive product offering. And that’s why our customers experience an unprecedented level of customer care. ETMV: What else has helped you to successfully differentiate Express Blinds from the competition? Darla: It’s our unique, collaborative design perspective. Our designers work with you to identify your individual tastes and needs. And by working closely with you, and by combining our years of design expertise, we can create window treatment designs that are a reflection of who you are. It’s this approach that enables us to put our client’s personal touches on on their newly constructed or forever home. I also think that your readers have been excited to discover that we have a Villager on our design consultation team. ETMV: How do you help your clients to remain on budget? Darla: Our extensive selection of blinds, shutters, shades and drapes ensures that we have the right window treatment for every budget. We can even space out your project over weeks or months if convenient for our clients. ETMV: What changes do you see on the horizon in the window treatment marketplace. Darla: Plantation Shutters which block a good deal of natural light, and which were once all the rage, have been replaced in popularity with a host of new products. Homeowners are opting for Top Down – Bottom Up Shades which allow you to control both privacy and natural light. And motorization, which has come down in price thanks in large part to new technology, is being used for not only hard to reach windows, but also on windows throughout the home. Look as well for more ecofriendly window treatments such as woven wood shades featuring bamboo, grass cloths and a variety of other eco-friendly, natural fiber fabrics. Be sure also to checkout today’s stunning beautiful roller shades. Incredibly reliable, roller shades have been around for over 135 years. And because today’s roller shades are available in over 500 fabrics, you now have an almost limitless palette of colors, textures and patterns to select from. Whether a smooth expanse of white on white, or a deliciously textured woven mesh, you can create that showroom look and feel that you have always dreamed of. ETMV: How can our readers learn more about Express Blinds, Shutters, Shades & Drapes? Darla: I would encourage you readers to visit our website at www.ExpressBlindsKnox.com or to call us at 865-730-4880 to request their In-Home Consultation. I’m confident that your readers will find our website’s gallery and testimonials helpful. Also, stay tuned as we prepare to announce the location of our soon to opened Design Center. ETMV: Is there anything else that you would like to add in closing? Darla: I would certainly like to thank your readers, many of whom are already loyal Express Blinds customers, for their continued support and encouragement. I would also like to personally invite those who may be unfamiliar with our family owned business to discover the Express Blinds, Shutters, Shades & Drapes difference for themselves. I invite you to experience a level of customer care that you might have thought no longer existed. Express Blinds, Shutters, Shades & Drapes 865.730.4880

“Oriental Rug Washing is an Acquired Art”

2B • East Tennessee’s Mountain Views, May 2021

aunched in 1985, Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning quickly earned a reputation for quality and affordable home and commercial carpet cleaning in East Tennessee. During its 37-year history, Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning owner, Kerry McDuffie, also earned a reputation as an innovative entrepreneur who routinely invested in new, state-of-the-art technology. These technological advances not only helped successfully differentiate Superior from its competition, but it also resulted in far superior cleaning results for its customers. Today, as ever growing numbers of homeowners and businesses are choosing hand-crafted Oriental rugs to replace wallto-wall carpeting, Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning has once again demonstrated its talent for innovation. Superior has built a state-of-the-art Oriental rug washing boutique that safely and affordably cleans and revitalizes your family’s Oriental rugs. We hope you will find our recent interview with Kerry both informative and instructional. MV: There’s no question that Oriental rugs are replacing wall-to-wall carpeting in many American homes and businesses. Aside from their obvious visual differences, how do Oriental rugs and carpets differ? Kerry: Conventional carpeting is ma-

chine made and tufted with synthetic material, although cotton and wool are sometimes used in higher end wall-to-wall carpeting. Genuine Oriental rugs, on the other hand, are created using natural fibers such as cotton, wool and silk. These handcrafted rugs are woven one at a time, with artisans paying individual attention to detail, color, pattern, and the motif of each piece of art they are creating. Each rug tells a story based on its origin and time in history in which it was created. These rugs are truly art for your floor. MV: Does the use of all-natural fibers

and organic dyes in the hand-crafting of Oriental rugs require a different cleaning process than that traditionally used on conventional carpeting? Kerry: Absolutely. Because of the use of natural fibers, vegetable and plant dyes, meticulous care must be taken in order to ensure that dyes remain stable during the entire cleaning process. While wall-towall carpeting can be cleaned with high heat and strong cleaning agents, Oriental rugs must be washed using pure deionized cold water and natural fiber safe washing agents, then thoroughly rinsed, and hung to dry in a temperature-controlled drying room. MV: Alex Zahir, owner of AZ International, LLC Rug Gallery, whose family has hand-crafted fine Oriental rugs in his native Afghanistan for three generations, expressed his surprise at your extraordinary level of knowledge related to the Oriental rug industry. How did you gain that knowledge? Kerry: Our company is certified by a national certification board called the IICRC. We attend classes and seminars regularly to learn and keep up with the latest in rug washing knowledge and advancements in technology. I also frequently collaborate with Oriental rug specialists like Alex. MV: Why is knowledge of the rug industry important in washing these Oriental rugs? Kerry: You must know and understand the construction, fiber, and dye content to correctly and safely wash each rug. Many heirloom quality rugs are passed down from generation to generation. Oriental rug buyers often invest a great deal of time and money in selecting just the right designs, colors, sizes, and natural materials they want in their rugs. You and your rugs deserve the decades of experience that we can offer to ensure that your rugs are thoroughly and safely cleaned. Oriental rug washing, like rug weaving, is an art form in itself. MV: How did your knowledge and experience in Oriental rug washing help you in the design and creation of your Farragut based rug washing boutique? Kerry: After visiting numerous other rug washing facilities nationally and attending a variety of schools and seminars, I decided to create a state of the art rug washing boutique featuring our proprietary 11 step washing process designed to provide a rug washing experience unavailable anywhere else. In fact, as advancements are made in our industry, we continue to invest in this new technology to deliver even better results. Recently we purchased a Marinator Decon System

designs you can

which cleans your rugs from the inside out by moving up to 80 gallons of deionized washing solution per minute through rugs to safely clean those difficult inner and back sides of your rugs. We also recently purchased and installed a Centrum Force Rug Wash Floor that replaces the wash pits used by the competition. The Centrum only uses clean deionized water to wash your rugs. The best way to differentiate the two systems is to compare them to your choice of a morning shower or a bath. With a shower you always bathe in clean water. MV: You have also earned a reputation for safely removing pet stains and odors. Explain. Kerry: Most rugs can be safely and successfully cleaned in our state-of-the-art rug washing boutique. However, the presence of pet urine or other animal accidents can compromise the dyes and degrade the natural fiber makeup of your rugs. Based on the construction of the rug, 100% removal of urine cannot always be guaranteed, although using our proprietary washing process, we have had good results. So the presence of pet urine does not necessarily mean that your rug is ruined. Time is of the essence, so act quickly when an unexpected accident occurs. MV: Lest we forget, Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning also cleans home and commercial carpeting and upholstery. Kerry: We not only wash rugs, but we have mobile state-of-the-art equipment to clean your wall-to-wall carpet as well as upholstery and tile in your home or business. Like our rug washing boutique, our mobile washing systems use water treated by Kinetico. Clean carpets and rugs start with pure water. MV: Kerry, how can people learn more about Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning? Kerry: You can find out about us by visiting our website, www.superiorofknoxville.com, email us at  info@superiorofknoxville.com, call or text us at 865-680-1450, or look us up on Facebook. MV: Anything else that you would like to share with our readers? Hundreds of satisfied customers give testimony to that fact. “Quality plus service equals superior value… guaranteed!” For a truly Superior level of clean call: Superior Carpet & Rug Cleaning 865.691.5686 www.superiorofknoxville.com

How Organization Brings You More Joy

veryone loves organization. An organized space looks great but it’s also incredibly useful because it can help free up your time so you can get more joy in your life. Whether it’s a daily morning walk or quality time with family, everyone could use

more time in their day and getting organized can help. When all your pantry items, countertop appliances, and dishware are easy to spot and easy to reach, you can save tons of time in your day. A few minutes saved when emptying your dishwasher or making a sandwich might not feel like much, but that time really adds up. What would you do with an extra 20-30 minutes each day? ShelfGenie Solutions can help you get organized. Glide Out shelves can increase your storage space by 50 percent and pull out the full depth of your cabinets and pantry. That means you can reduce the clutter in your home and make locating and retrieving items much easier. This will also make your space feel more open, so you’ll feel as if you’re cooking in a whole new kitchen. Along with getting more space and time, being organized can help you to feel happier each day. In fact, clutter can increase stress levels and can even lead to lowered productivity. That means being organized and decluttering your space can help you to work better, enjoy your space more, and feel more relaxed at home. Five Great Reasons to Install Retractable Screens on Your Home This Spring By Steve Krawczyk, Owner of Screens of East Tennessee

1. Let in fresh air and keep out insects. As summer approaches, we look forward to spending more family time on our patios and porches. Yet with warm weather comes bugs, making it difficult to remain outside in comfort. Installing retractable screens on your home allows you to open up your living space without the nuisance of insects. Whether you need to screen your doors, windows, patios, or lanais, there’s a retractable screen solution that fits your needs. 2. Retract your screen for an unobstructed view. Retractable screens allow you to enjoy unimpaired views when the screens are retracted and let in fresh air without worrying about annoying insects when screens are in place. Large, motorized screens can blend form, function, and comfort. They can be recessed into the beams or walls of your home, thereby staying hidden when fully retracted. They don’t diminish your views or esthetics, as the screens are in place only when needed. 3. Preserve the look and design of your doorway. Homeowners are abandoning the idea of conventional fixed screens and adopting retractable screens as the ideal solution. Retractable door screens provide the utility of a conventional insect screen without the unsightly appearance of

conventional door screens, making it a perfect addition for any home. 4. Let more natural daylight into your home when desired. Retractable screens are the versatile and cost-effective choice for creating a more comfortable living environment while reducing energy waste. For example, installing Phantom’s fully retractable screens in the windows on the west side of a home allows homeowners to block the hot afternoon sun in the warmer months or fully retract the screens to gain the maximum warming effects of the sun in the cooler months. 5. Enjoy the convenience of professional design and installation. Homeowners often struggle to find screen solutions that match the design and size requirements of the openings they want to screen. For example, it can be difficult to install screens on large openings like a patio or balcony, especially if you’re considering recessed or motorized options. Professional installers eliminate these concerns by providing a screen solution that’s specific to your needs. To discover all the possibilities retractable screens can offer you and your family, contact me today. Screens of East Tennessee 865-919-1615 www.tennesseescreens.com www.phantomscreens.com

Up To 75% of Covid-19 Cases Come From Small Group Gatherings and Households According to CDC Estimates

o what can you do to protect yourself, friends and family you might ask? The experts at Gent Heating & Cooling and RGF Environmental Group have the answer. RGF Environmental Group Inc. of Riviera Beach, Florida, has a 35+ year history of providing the world with the safest air, water and food without the use of chemicals. RGF manufactures over 500 environmental products on its 9 acre campus, home to over 130,000 square feet of manufacturing and distribution facilities. Perhaps RGF’s most exciting and re-

cent innovations are their REME HALO residential and commercial air purification system that has been shown to inactivate the SARS-CoV-2 virus, commonly known as the coronavirus 2019 or COVID-19. Based on a study which commenced in March 2020, and overseen by Dr. James Marsden, Executive Director of Science and Technology at RGF, Dr. Marsden stated that “the study results show the REME HALO to be effective in combating the COVID-19 virus and a valuable solution to immediately improve the Indoor Air Quality of residential and commercial

spaces and protect occupants against exposure to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.” The independent third-party study focused on the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 using RGF’s proprietary REME HALO air purification system with PHI-Cell technology. The testing was performed at the Innovative Bioanalysis Laboratories in Cypress, California. The virus was nebulized into a large 1,280 cubic foot chamber representing a real-world, air-conditioned office or home. With the REME HALO operating inside the chamber, the virus was reduced on contact resulting in a 99.9% reduction of the virus within the simulated real-world space, reducing the risk of person-to-person infection by respiratory particles and aerosols. This is great news. But the even better news is that you can have the REME HALO air purification system installed in your home today for probably less than you might have imagined. RGF strongly recommends that their

REME HALO system only be installed by a licensed HVAC contractor. In East Tennessee and the Tellico Lake area the REME HALO air purification system is installed by Gent Heating & Cooling. Gent Heating & Cooling owner, Shane Gent, and his team of highly trained technicians, have earned a well deserved reputation for quality workmanship, professionalism and fairness for over 20+ years. Gent has the REME HALO system in stock and ready for installation. Gent Heating & Cooling is a full-service HVAC company specializing in existing and new residential and commercial heating and air-conditioning work, including sales, installation and service of all brands. May In the Garden

Lisa Grugin

n spite of Mother Nature’s roller coaster, we have had a beautiful spring! I love checking all the new plants that are leafing out or bursting into bloom every day. Yes, some of them got nipped by those nasty nights in the 20s, but others are in full glory right now. May is one of a gardener’s busiest months, so let’s get started on your to-do list: ✻ You know what I am going to say first: Do your walk-about and see what is going on. Remember to look up, down, and all around! Look up to check for signs of disease or damage to larger shrubs and trees. Look down to check for moles/voles. Look all around for signs of disease and insect damage in your smaller shrubs and perennials. While you are out there, make notes about what needs to be moved, divided, treated, or fertilized. You can also dream a little about what you would like to do! ✻ If you are planting larger trees and shrubs this year, try to get them in by the end of the month. It is easier for the plants to establish root systems before they start battling the heat. It will also behoove you to not postpone planting this year, as we are encountering some dramatic shortages. So many people have been working in their yards that the growers simply cannot keep up. Trees and shrubs are a 3-5 year process, so if you see something you love, don’t wait. ✻ Get those container gardens started while plants are small, and leave room for them to grow. Use a good quality potting soil, and pick plants that like the same conditions. Also, remember that any planter that is outside in the elements should have a drain hole or it will become a water garden! Stop by if you need help making your selections. ✻ I want to take a moment to talk about water, because that is the number one

Mother's Day The Perfect Place to Find a Gift for

plant killer. Please remember that sprinkler systems are great for grass and flowers, but they are often woefully inadequate for trees and shrubs. You need to get 1” of water to the roots of larger plants every week. An easy way to tell how much your system is putting out is to put a tuna or cat food can under a section of your sprinkler and see how much water actually goes into it. It is important to water deeply and less frequently. This encourages plants to develop deep roots instead of shallow roots. ✻ Did you mulch this spring? If not, think about applying a fresh layer or top-dressing. At least go out and take a rake to old mulch to “fluff” it, because it becomes very compacted during the winter. Mulch adds a neat look and keeps soil temperature and moisture levels stable. It also breaks down and adds nutrients to the soil. ✻ You can prune spring bloomers once the blooms have faded. Forsythia and quince can be pruned somewhat severely. Be more selective with azaleas, rhododendrons, and lilacs. Call us if you have questions. I have seen some truly tragic pruning done, so please do a little research before you start whacking.

✻ As your spring bulbs die back, don’t get in too big a hurry to cut them down. Wait until the foliage has died back, because it is storing the energy for next year’s blooms. If you cut them down too soon, it will have a negative impact on flower quantity. ✻ Some of your perennials may need a little assistance as they emerge. Tall plants may need to be staked or caged, and it is easier to do that while the plants are small. You can also pinch plants back to encourage them to be shorter and bushier. ✻ You will get a much longer bloom season if you deadhead on a regular basis. (Deadheading is cutting the spent blooms off). You should do this to perennials AND annuals to keep those blooms coming! Take the stalk down to the next leaf cluster to avoid having those ugly sticks poking up out of the plant. ✻ We have lots of bugs already, but I

encourage you to avoid using insecticides as much as possible. Always start with the least toxic product first, and spray when bees are not active. If you have a shrub that only blooms in the spring, wait until after it finishes before you apply insecticides. ✻ My last pitch is for the birds. Keep those feeders and baths full and clean! Birds will remove lots of those pesky insects, so attract them to your yard with plants, houses, feeders, and water sources. We are getting several trucks in every week, so stop by often to see what is new. Happy gardening! Renovating your Garage? It Starts with the Floor

e’ve all seen it: The house that is the epitome of curbside appeal -- until the garage door opens, revealing a disorganized mess. If your garage’s main purpose is random storage, maybe it’s time to repurpose all that valuable space. PremierGarage of Knoxville can help you transform your overlooked and underused garage into functional living space, starting with a custom garage floor to take your garage from frantic to fabulous. Why consider anything beyond your standard-issue concrete garage floor? • Protect concrete from the harsh chemicals and liquids that leak from your automobile. Even the water, salt, and snow your car brings into the garage promote deterioration and cracking. • Cleaning is easier. Untreated concrete gives off dust, but a flooring system significantly reduces dirt and dust. It prevents materials -- from cars and your other garage-based activities (gardening, building, painting) -- from soaking into the porous concrete. • Fill and cover-up existing cracks for looks, safety, and protection. • Open up new activities in your garage. It could double as a workout room, gardening center, or children’s play area. • Increase the resale value of your home. For a striking and durable garage floor coating

that is easy to maintain, Knoxville’s PremierGarage can transform an oil-stained, pitted, and peeling epoxy-coated garage floor into a showroom quality look. PremierGarage, serving East Tennessee for more than 10 years, combines its proprietary hybrid polymer flooring system technology with their extensive industry knowledge and experience to provide a high-quality finish that is chemical, stain and slip resistant. The two-day process starts with technicians who diamond grind the floor to the ideal surface condition to achieve a permanent chemical bond that substantially outlives traditional epoxies. The polyurea topcoat, which cures two times harder than epoxy, provides a continuous, non-porous coating surface that naturally resists various liquids that may leak from your automobile’s engine. It’s like armor for your concrete floor. Your garage will look more ‘finished’ and cleanup requires only a hose or mop. Available in dozens of various chip and color combinations, you can customize your garage flooring to fit your home and style. PremierGarage’s flooring solutions are also suitable for commercial and light industrial applications. Discover the affordability and beauty of transforming your garage floor. Home really does begin in the garage! PremierGarage® 865-947-8686 www.tailoredlivingknoxville.com

Spring is the perfect time to install Undercover Systems’ totally unique underdecking ceiling system under your home’s existing raised decks. This totally proprietary and patented underdeck system will ensure that this year’s events will be protected from unexpected and unwanted rain, the searing summertime sun, and wintertime sleet and snow. “Spring is a great time to weatherproof all of your future out-of-door events,” said Jim Conn, owner of Undercover Systems. “Throughout the entire process, our skilled craftsmen work with you each step of the way, from consultation to project completion, until you are completely satisfied. And because each underdeck system we install is custom made by Undercover Systems specifically for your home, you can be assured of many years of reliable, trouble-free family enjoyment. Most competitive systems

use generic, off the shelf components found at the big home improvement box stores. Homeowners also appreciate the fact that their new underdeck system is totally supported by Undercover Systems’ gutters and not your home’s deck as with competitive systems. This promotes greater deck air circulation and deck longevity.” You’ll also appreciate Undercover Systems’ attention to detail, which comes from years of experience, as they help you craft a seamless transition from your home’s interior to your new out-of-door living spaces, which will perfectly complement your existing architecture and landscaping plan. Prevent a Family Boat Dock Tragedy

recent article in BoatUS describes how two young friends, boys ages 10 and 11, drowned in Cherokee Lake. Sadly they died from Electric Shock Drowning or ESD. ESD occurs when low levels of A/C current enter the water from faulty electrical wiring on family docks and boats. This current incapacitates a swimmer, Consumers’ Choice Award winner for Excellence causing them to drown. It also poses a significant health risk to those attempting to 12 years & counting! rescue these individuals. Incorporate the Beauty and Sustainability of Reclaimed Wood Into Your Story

By Jenny Blalock – Owner – Plantation Reclaimed

he barns of yesterday are pieces of living history and they still have a story to share. At Knoxville based Plantation Reclaimed, we are dedicated to the preservation of our remaining old growth forests, believing they should be left as a legacy to our future. That’s why all of our unique wood comes from abandoned farms, warehouses and other structures as much as 200 years old. Not only is it environmentally responsible to recycle antique lumber, but the sheer beauty and patina from reclaimed wood just can’t be replicated. Reclaimed wood is the best way to recycle wooden articles from old, unused, dilapidated or just plain neglected barns, warehouses, etc. The recycling of antique lumber leads to a decline in the demand for new wood from our already endangered forests. There is a multitude of ways of using reclaimed wood, most of the times in building portions of new homes. Whether it’s re-building your urban home to give it a rustic feel or building a new home or a country cabin in the woods, nothing can replace the aged feel and color tone of reclaimed wood. Everyone loves the warmth and homey feel that a great hardwood floor provides. Well, at Plantation Reclaimed, we believe that solid wood creates the very best flooring surface. There are various types of woods that will provide character to any area of the home. Tobacco Road is one such type wood, which was used during the 19th and early 20th century. Farmers, primarily tobacco farmers, living in the most fertile valleys of Pennsylvania, used a mixture of wood species to create siding and roof rafters for their barns, where they would dry their harvest. Over time the character of the wood occurred from weathering and staining. Hence, wood reclaimed from these barns is termed Tobacco Road. The Southern Reclaimed Heart Pine, recognized by its rich yellow tone and the best in grain quality, is an ode to the American manufacturing era. These were the beams found in most of the largest manufacturing mills of this country. The mighty oak tree has provided the planks and beams used to create our symbolic American barns for centuries. Resawn beams from the oldest of these barns are used to create the incredible looking oak hardwood wide planks that will provide your home with the unique feeling of warmth that it deserves. Solid wood mantels provide that much needed character and style to your fireplace. Built with reclaimed wood, these mantels offer an all natural look that will become a featured focal point. Hand-hewn antique mantels are sourced from wood that were aged naturally over decades and centuries as structural timbers. Many still bear the hand-tool marks from when they were cut and shaped. Other rough sawn antique mantels bear the marks of both early two-man crosscut saws and axes reminiscent of our pioneer past. Our mantels are a living legacy to our early pioneering history and our long tradition of American wood craftsmanship.

Aqua Clear Water Systems believe that upgrading your home with a water filtration system is the #1 way to increase your home’s value and your family’s health.

pring cleaning has arrived! Most of America is cleaning out closets, welcoming the warmer weather, and maybe even dabbling in some home renovation projects. While renovations are an important update to your home, we at Aqua Clear Water Systems believe that upgrading your home with a water filtration system is the #1 way to increase your home’s value and your family’s health. In the last year, we’ve spent more time in our homes than ever before, and the housing market has absolutely exploded. So, we’d like to give you 5 reasons why a Kinetico Water System is your next best home improvement investment. 1. Improved Water Quality, Taste & Odor - East Tennessee’s water is known for its hardness as well as chlorine, iron, sediment, and other harmful contaminants polluting the water. A whole house Kinetico water filtration system can remove all of these contaminants to give you tasteless, odorless, and silky feeling soft water throughout your home. 2. Improved Life of Appliances & Fixtures - A system will protect your home from damages caused by a variety of water contaminants! You could be extending the life of your water heater, washing machine, dishwasher, pipes, refrigerator, and more by installing a Kinetico water system because reducing the build-up in these appliances allows them to work efficiently. 3. Increased Value of Your Home - With the housing market booming, we’d love to help you get a bigger bang for your buck when selling. 4. Improved Health - Chlorine is a harmful chemical used to treat bacteria in water. While it’s necessary to kill bacteria,

chlorine can’t differentiate between good and bad bacteria. When you shower in chlorinated tap water, your skin absorbs the chlorine like a sponge, leaving you at risk. To name a few, high amounts of chlorine can cause breathing and lung problems and cancer from THM agents. Filtering your water could save you from unnecessary illnesses. 5. Improved Skin & Hair - A whole house filtration system reduces the amount of build-up on your applianc-

es as well as your skin and hair. Who wouldn’t want that? Softened water results in brighter skin, shinier hair, and longer-lasting clothes. Now that you know the benefits of installing a whole-home filtration system, we’d love the opportunity to help you improve your home in 2021 by doing an in-person or virtual free water health checkup. We’ll come to your house for FREE or connect via Zoom. It’s your choice! For East Tennessee’s Mountain Views readers

only, we’re offering an exclusive designer faucet in the color of your choice ($195 value) and $200 off when you purchase a system before May 31st, 2021.
