Welcome Happy New Year, and welcome to our 2023 season.

Following the uncertainty of recent years, I am delighted to say that the theatre had a very good 2022, and we’ve just finished our record-breaking pantomime, welcoming over 46,000 excited festive revellers. We have also successfully secured funding from Arts Council England for the next three years, helping us establish a solid foundation for our work going forward.

The Arts Council funding drives the awardwinning Education and Community work that the Everyman Theatre conducts throughout Gloucestershire and beyond. We are now looking to extend our influence, specifically in the city of Gloucester, and hope to announce some exciting new plans in the coming year.

In 2022 we launched our all-new Priority Access Membership allowing members to receive advanced notification of events and be the first to purchase tickets. We are aware that next year may be very hard for many people, and we are working to keep our ticket prices as affordable as possible. We will continue offering concession tickets whenever possible and as many opening night specials as

we can. We hope you’ll find many performances that appeal to you in the upcoming season. We are delighted to welcome the National Theatre’s acclaimed production of Home, I’m Darling, Willy Russell’s ever-popular Blood Brothers and The Rocky Horror Show to highlight just a few. I am particularly delighted that I will be producing a new national tour of The Full Monty, based on the award-winning 1997 film, and that production will open right here at the Everyman Theatre.

Our spectacular theatre would be nothing without its staff, and I am very pleased to receive compliments about how our front-of-house and box office team welcome our guests to the Everyman Theatre. Our staff is what makes the Everyman Theatre the heart of Cheltenham and an important cultural institution bringing in visitors and business from all over the world. We look forward to welcoming you all in the new year and hope you have a wonderful 2023.

Beautifully crafted, uproariously funny and charmingly English, Relatively Speaking was Alan Ayckbourn’s first West End hit in 1967.

It made him a household name, with critics hailing the arrival of a great new comic talent and Noël Coward himself praising the young writer on creating “a beautifully constructed and very funny comedy”.

Greg only met Ginny a month ago but has already made up his mind that she’s the girl for him. When she tells him that she’s going to visit her parents, he decides this is the moment to ask her father for his daughter’s hand. Discovering a scribbled address, he follows her to Buckinghamshire were he finds Philip and Sheila enjoying a peaceful Sunday morning breakfast in the garden, but the only thing is, they’re not Ginny’s parents…

Liza Goddard is one of the UK’s favourite actresses. Her extensive range of Ayckbourn credits incudes Life of Riley, Communicating Doors and Season’s Greetings. Her television work includes cult classics Doctor Who and Bergerac.

Steven Pacey’s 40 year stage, screen and radio career has included roles ranging from Blake’s 7 to The Phantom of the Opera.

Antony Eden has recently been seen in the West End in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and The Woman in Black and starred in previous Ayckbourn comedies Family Album, A Brief History of Women and Ten Times Table.

Olivia Le Andersen’s theatre credits include Bad Jews, The Book of Dust and EU Poem Project. Recent film credits include Johnny English Strikes Again and The King of Thieves.

Joe Absolom’s impressive TV career has barely seen him off our screens in 25 years: from Matthew Rose in EastEnders to Al Large in Doc Martin, Christopher Halliwell in A Confession and Andy Warren in The Bay. Ben Onwukwe boasts a 30-year stage career including leading roles with the RSC and Royal Court, as well as 11 years on TV as Recall McKenzie in London’s Burning and more recently, the role of Jackson Donckers in Professor T.

Lloyd is back with his unique bag of stand up, dubious impressions, and obviously a sprinkling of his (incredible) singing.

Lloyd Griffith is: One Tonne of Fun.

It’s time for a Duggee Hug! Everyone’s big loveable dog HEY DUGGEE is touring for the first time EVER and here’s your chance to see him!

Lloyd was recently one of the first national anthem singers to sing the new anthem at various football matches around the country.

Lloyd will soon be appearing in Nolly, an ITV Studios drama about the famous soap opera, Crossroads, playing the part of Paul Henry – the actor who portrayed Benny in the series. Starring Helena Bonham Carter, the mini-series is written

by Russell T Davies, directed by Peter Hoar (It’s A Sin) and executive produced by Nicola Schindler.

Lloyd has appeared in: Ted Lasso, 8 Out of 10 Cats, Soccer AM, Flinch, Comedy Central at The Comedy Store, Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club, Can You Beat The Bookies?, Roast Battle, Question of Sport, Not Going Out, Richard Osman’s House of Games, and loads of other stuff. A new play by William Humble Starring Robert Daws

Prue Leith in her first ever one woman show, tells her wonderful and surprising story from growing up in Africa to being the judge on the world’s biggest TV baking show.

Dave Gorman, the man behind Dave TV’s hit show Modern Life Is Goodish as well as Are You Dave Gorman? and Googlewhack Adventure, is back on the road with a brand new live show, Powerpoint To The People.

Based on the life and writing of P.G. Wodehouse, with songs by Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Ivor Novello.

P.G. Wodehouse (Plum to his friends), played by veteran stage and screen actor and novelist Robert Daws, is working on the latest adventure of Bertie Wooster at his New York State home in the 1950s when he’s interrupted by a would-be biographer, his adoring wife and daughter, and his two prized Pekingese.

Michel Rosen is the English children’s novelist, poet, and the author of 140 books. He served

as Children’s Laureate from June 2007 to June 2009. He has been a TV presenter and a political columnist and his books include Carrying the Elephant: A Memoir of Love and Loss and Uncle Billy Being Silly.

This thrilling production is brought to vivid life by The Children’s Theatre Partnership, whose shows have included Animal Farm, Holes and The Jungle Book. For more than 50 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures.

After 17 years and seven solo albums Jackie Oates is a central figure on the English traditional music scene.

In John Tams: Don’t Get Me Started, the songmaker for War Horse, seven-time winner at the Radio 2 Folk Awards and former member of folk legends The Albion Band and Home Service, performing solo for the first time in this rare tour.

Heidi Talbot has graced the stages of folk festivals worldwide, played in front of symphony orchestras and has even sung at the White House.

His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it. A most welcome return to the Irving Studio for Martin, a true folk legend.

Regarded as one of the country’s best loved folk performers, Jackie brings elements of the English folk tradition to new people and places.

Hot on the heels of her latest release Gracious Wings, Jackie will be playing songs from her new album as well as ones from across her wonderful repertoire.

Elbow’s best friend, Hamster, has unexpectedly died. Everyone expects Elbow to be grieving right? But Elbow isn’t sure how to do it.

Recently it has felt like grief is all around us.

Privately, Elbow is beginning to feel they weren’t even as close as everyone makes out. It would be better if everyone just left Elbow alone - his mum. dad, stupid older sibling, Donut, but especially all those annoying kids at school pretending they really care by writing poems, singing songs and holding a vigil at Elbow and Hamster’s favourite meeting place. Who do they think they are?

Elbow doesn’t know. He just has a strange feeling inside - an absence of feeling at all.

The Crown and the Cotswolds To celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, the Everyman’s in house company presents a joyous collection of short plays by Gloucestershire-based playwrights, exploring the history and stories that connect the Cotswolds and the monarchy.

Murder – Just What The Doctor Ordered (The Anatomy Murders of 1828) In Edinburgh between 1827 and 1828 science and murder cling together in a dance of death.

Sixteen people are murdered by Burke and Hare.

Doctor Robert Knox, scientist, doctor, and anatomist supreme, waits in Surgeons Square to buy bodies for the sake of advancing medical knowledge. A body is delivered, money is paid and no questions are asked. A trail of terror leads to the dissection table of Doctor Knox. Murder will out and a price must be paid. Knox will have to pay that price.

This specially commissioned play has toured all over these islands to enormous success.

Steve Ashley is one of British folk’s finest singer-songwriters.

His songs have been covered

by Fairport Convention, Ralph McTell & Wizz Jones, Show of Hands, Martin Simpson and many others.

For the first time ever, the diaries of photographer and stylist Sir Cecil Beaton are dramatised for the stage, to accompany his most iconic and lesser-seen photographs and designs.

His award-winning debut album, Stroll On (1974) is a folk-rock classic and he’s since released 12 critically acclaimed albums of original songs. If you like songs that are edgy, challenging and compassionate - and sometimes very funny - then don’t miss this performance.

Beaton’s photographs showed his versatility; his diaries exposed the cost. Even his triumphant designs for My Fair Lady never stopped his doubts. And his passion for Greta Garbo found fulfilment only in his writing.

Blisteringly funny and at times deeply moving, with appearances ranging from the Queen Mother and Elizabeth Taylor to Churchill and Capote, the diaries paint a self-portrait of the 20th century’s most compelling dandy.

The diaries are adapted and performed by Richard Stirling, whose recent credits as an actor include appearances in Bridgerton and The Man who Fell to Earth.
