MANAGER’S NOTES
BRIAN SORENSEN Good afternoon, Evertonians. Welcome back to Walton Hall Park for our match against West Ham United. First of all, I would like to congratulate our assistant manager, Chris and our analyst, Paschalis whose partners welcomed two healthy girls recently. As a father myself, words fail to describe how special it is to bring a child into the world, and I extend my congratulations to their families on behalf of everyone at the Club. Chris is taking some well-deserved time with his family and will return in the coming weeks. Despite this, he still made time to assist with our crucial set pieces, so we have to credit and thank him for that! On last week, I was really impressed with the manner of our performance. It is never an easy task when you are drawn away to a lower-league side and for the potential to fall victim to a cup upset. Nevertheless, the girls were professional, we created a lot of chances and scored a lot of goals. It was great to see several players get on the scoresheet, too. The squad is in a good place at the moment, and it was nice to see that people can come off the bench, contribute and put themselves in the thinking going forward. I was also impressed with the way my assistant, Stephen, conducted himself in recent weeks in my absence. I want to echo one of the points he made in his interview last week and that is about the togetherness we have in the squad. The ideas we have, the way we want to play - the entire group is aligned in that vision. Unfortunately, we still have a handful of players out evertonfc.com
but others in the group have stepped up to ensure we continue to move forward in our growth as a unit. We need those players to step up again this weekend against a West Ham side who are in good form. When we play, we always play to win but there is an added incentive for us this weekend to get our first home win of the season. When I look back on our performances at home so far this campaign, we have been pretty consistent, but the results have got away from us. The focus remains on us, how we perform and how the girls continue to give absolutely everything. When the squad do that, as a manager I cannot ask much more from them and I am confident wins are soon to come. Since we faced West Ham in December they have recruited well, gained momentum and are a different outfit to the one we faced last year. We know it is going to be extremely difficult against them, but we go into every game not fearing anybody. We know if we play our best then we can win against any team in this league and that, of course, is our main objective this afternoon. Enjoy the game, Brian 3

CAPTAIN'S NOTES
MEGAN FINNIGAN
Good afternoon and welcome back to Walton Hall Park for today’s match against West Ham United. It was great to record such an impressive win last weekend. Credit to Nottingham Forest who really showed a willingness to try to take the game to us. Regardless of who we were playing, we wanted to breathe confidence back into the group after a few difficult results, and the girls are holding their heads high heading into this weekend’s test. We have a really good group of players and the manner of our performance last week epitomised that. We know how much talent there is in the squad, but more importantly, the players we have are really good people.
Improving our home form is another major focus for us. We love playing at Walton Hall Park, it is a fantastic ground, and we feel a great bond with our supporters when we are there. It is massively frustrating for us that we have not got our first home win yet this season, and I reiterate that we have focussed on rectifying that for this weekend.
When you go through difficult moments, as we have done so far this season, you need to stick together and support one another. We are not where we want, or arguably deserve, to be in the league so far. But when you are in moments like that, it brings you closer together as a group.
However, that will be far from easy, especially against a West Ham side who have picked up a bit of form since our meeting in December. This is a massive game for us, and today’s opponent is not one to be taken lightly or underestimated in any sense.
The togetherness comes because there is such unity across the whole squad. Each week players are coming in to do different jobs, it is not just the same 11 players.
My message to the squad this week is about how we continue to build. We are disappointed how certain decisions went against us in recent defeats, but there is no need for panic or going back to the drawing board.
That is why I was so happy to see players like Justine, Emma and Ke score their first goals for the Club against Forest. Like so many in our squad, they have worked tirelessly throughout the season and deserve recognition for their efforts. Something we have lacked this season is scoring goals, there is no shying away from that. So it is important for our confidence that we are starting to see so many players getting on the scoresheet.

We want to stay true to our principles, how we want to play and unfortunately the final details are what have let us down Today is an opportunity to put that right and we look forward to the challenge that awaits. Enjoy the game, Meg

Everton midfielder Emma Bissell has revealed her pride at scoring her first goal for the Club but insisted the manner of the Blues’ dominant FA Cup win was the most pleasing aspect of last weekend. Brian Sørensen’s side hit the road and blew National League North side Nottingham Forrest away with a stunning 7-1 win, as six different players got on the scoresheet for Everton to help send them into the competition’s quarter-finals. Kathrine Kühl opened the scoring with a lob to net her first goal for the club, whilst Martina Piemonte doubled the Blues’ lead with a evertonfc.com
bullet header before half-time. Charlotte Greengrass got one back for Forest immediately after the interval, but Justine Vanhaevermaet restored the Toffees’ two-goal lead on 52 minutes. Kühl forced a fourth in deep into the second half as her curling strike rebounded off the upright against the goalkeeper and rolled into the bottom corner. Bissell, who arrived on Merseyside in the summer, netted the fifth before Toni Duggan and Hanna Bennison capped off a night to remember for the Toffees. “It was nice to get the goal and get off the mark, but the main
thing was getting the job done,” Bissell told the Official Matchday Programme. “From the players that started to those who came on, we kept the momentum high throughout the game. But obviously on a personal note, always nice to get goals in the game. “My family were really happy to see it. With me being in the United States these past two years, they couldn’t get to many games. So it was nice for them to be there and watch it. But again, the most important thing was getting the win.”

Eleanor Dale says she is excited by the opportunity to join Everton and hopes to take her game to the next level in royal blue. The 21-year-old forward moved to the Blues at the beginning of the year, following the conclusion of her studies at the University of Nebraska in the USA, where she spent three years playing for the Nebraska Huskers. An England youth international, Dale scored 28 goals and provided five assists in her final season in the States, a standout campaign that saw her become the first Nebraska studentathlete to be awarded the Big Ten Forward of the Year. Now back on home soil, the Billingham-born Dale made her Toffees debut against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, coming on as a substitute in the impressive 7-1 win. “I’m really excited to be here,” she told the Official Everton Programme. “It’s been my dream to play in the Women’s Super League. I’m thankful I’ve got this opportunity to come to this
amazing club. “My priority last year was to have a good season and try get my foot in the door over here. Hopefully I can make a difference and hit the ground running.” Dale is Everton’s third signing of 2024 after the arrivals of Denmark internationals Kathrine Kuhl and Rikke Madsen. The English forward is also the third Everton player this season to swap college soccer for the WSL, following in the footsteps of Emma Bissell and Heather Payne. “It’s hard for young players coming to the WSL because it’s such a hard league and everyone wants to play in it,” said Dale. “I think Brian [Sorensen] does a good job of incorporating youth into the squad. It’s good for me to see that with Emma and Heather, and hopefully I could be given the same chance. “It’s been inspiring to see how much the women’s game has changed in England, and I think
the only way is up. It motivated me to work really hard to get to this point.” The young forward already has experience playing competitively in England, having represented

Middlesbrough and Durham before moving Stateside. “I know I’m going to gain a lot technically, tactically and I’m going to be pushed really hard to improve here at Everton,” added Dale. “I’m really excited for that. “There are so many great role models in the team. I used to watch Toni [Duggan] and I would think, ‘I want to be like her one day’. I told her she is going to be a really good role model for me, and she’s already said I can text her anytime. It’s really nice to know I have that support. “By no means am I the finished product but I think my experience in the United States evertonfc.com
will help me keep improving. I know what I need work on. I want to be the best that I can and hopefully play for England one day. I’m ready to do anything I can to help me achieve that goal.” On his latest signing, manager Brian Sorensen believes Dale will need time to settle in but is confident she can impress Evertonians. “I’m really happy to welcome Eleanor to the Club,” he said.
“She’s made some good progress over in America, scoring a lot of goals. She sniffs out opportunities and that’s a key asset. “I’m looking forward to see how she settles in – we’ll give her time to do that – but I’m sure she will do well for us.” “What I’ve seen so far is a really good team with really good qualities, and I’m looking forward to bringing some of mine to the team, too.”
“There was a lot of interest for her and I’m glad she chose Everton. We want to invest in young English talent and Eleanor definitely fits that category. 15

HOPE & WILDING HELP PUPILS WITH ONLINE SAFETY
Lucy Hope and Annie Wilding were the special guests at Holy Trinity Primary School in Garston to help educate kids on online safety. Both Hope and Wilding were invited by Everton in the Community – the Club’s official charity – to learn more about promoting safer and more responsible use of online technology. Joining the Blues duo were pupils aged seven to 11, who spoke to both players about growing up with technology, their experiences of the internet, and how to build a better experience for everybody online. In turn, both Hope and Wilding gave the room an insight into how they would deal with online abuse and their thoughts on championing the internet to be a more positive space. Stressing the importance of the event’s message, Hope told the Official Everton Programme: “Hearing from the children themselves, it really opened our eyes to the role the internet plays in these kids’ lives, which only highlights how important it is that they know how to use online technology safely and correctly. “Footballers of today, male and
female have a higher profile which has its rewards. But unfortunately, it also comes with negatives such as online abuse. I’ve never experienced it myself, but you don’t have to look far to see other footballers subjected to this on their own profiles – and that’s not right.” The event reflected on pupils’ own usage of social media, it promoted how to use it effectively and reiterated the consequences of using the internet to spread negativity and hate. The session was delivered by Everton in the Community’s Premier League Primary Stars team, which works in primary schools across the region to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills. Its work in Speke and Garston is made possible by the Steve Morgan Foundation whose funding enables Everton in the Community to deliver early intervention programmes in L4 and South Sefton. Everton in the Community is committed to raising awareness on
the responsible use of technology. As well as Hope and Wilding’s school visit, the charity’s partner schools were also invited to Goodison to take part in workshops delivered by UK Safer Internet Centre. Premier League Primary Stars programme manager, Elena Barton, added: “A key function of our Primary Stars delivery is promoting key messages to young people, to not only improve their aspirations, but to build better communities and brighter futures for our region.
“The role the internet plays in everyday society continues to be significant and that can sometimes be overwhelming for young people. We need to make sure children who are growing up with technology are not only educated on using the internet responsibly, but to also support their own wellbeing when accessing the internet.”
