Nithya & Subbu Are Hoping to Adopt!

We are Nithya (Nithya) and Subramanian (Subbu). We are originally from the beautiful country of India. Before we get into talking more about who we are, our culture, family and beliefs, we would like to express our gratitude for considering us. While words can’t really do justice for your actions and your courage to put your baby’s well-being first, be assured that we mean every bit of our ‘thank you’ from the bottom of our heart.

We have always wanted to adopt a baby or adopt children to be part of our family.

Although, we had our share of challenges in trying to become biological parents, the thought to adopt ‘someday’ had crossed both our minds even before we met each other.

We come from families where adoption has never been an ‘if not then’ thought and has rather been a ‘we believe, can and love to – so why not’ thought.

We want to welcome you on this journey in getting to know us better. We hope that you will learn more about our values & principles, culture, relationships, our love for each other and our love for our current and future family.

We both come from the southern part of India, a beautiful city called Bangalore. We met each other by the traditional Indian matchmaking process in March 2008 and were married in July.

I, Subbu, come from a family where education, principles and togetherness was the foundation of my upbringing. I am the younger of two sons. My dad and mom, who made tremendous sacrifices for which I am eternally grateful, are my role models. My dad, now retired, was the primary breadwinner of the family and my mom chose to be a homemaker. My parents taught me by example to dream big, be humble, be forgiving and loving and to stand up for the right thing even if it meant standing alone. I am also grateful to my older brother, for being the trendsetter in our family and being my first new-age example of working hard to accomplish his goals and dreams.

I completed my schooling, college and undergraduate degrees in Engineering in India and came to the US in 2002 to pursue my Master’s degree at Mississippi State University. Being totally new in this country, with no help and a lot of dreams, I worked hard to build a strong foundation based on successes and failures.

I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in Feb 2005 to pursue a career in Software Engineering. After working in the industry for a decade with companies like Wells Fargo, GAP, Vodafone and Ebay, I co-founded a software startup in the silicon valley in 2014.

I pride myself in being a super-positive, happy-hearted, people-person who is grateful for everything in his life, be it the successes or the challenges. I have had the opportunity to mentor people who are going through tough times or personal challenges, help them cope and bring out the best in them. When I am not working, I love to sing/listen to music, watch something that makes me laugh, hit the gym, travel, play tennis and read a good self-help or leadership book.

I, Nithya was raised in a joint family comprising of my parents, grandparents and my younger sister. My dad worked for over 25 years in the Advertising industry and is currently a mentor.

My mom worked as a Montessori teacher for 15 years and is currently a homemaker. I was raised with values that focused on being grounded, humble and being conscious of one’s roots and beginnings while remaining ambitious and focused on one’s future. I completed my schooling and graduate education in India and pursued my doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology in the United States following my marriage with Subbu. Staying connected with family has always been a priority and I balanced that pretty well given my busy schedule with classes and managing a home environment all simultaneously.

I believe that I have a realistic outlook on life, am warm and kind hearted and aspire to make a significant difference in people’s life throughout my lifetime. Being a licensed psychotherapist, I continue to pursue my passion for music and enjoy travelling during the short breaks I get, with my husband and family.

We can see three broad factors that impact our life as a couple, they are family, our profession and spirituality. Our strong grounding in values like integrity, simplicity and generosity is from the joint family who also taught us to enjoy each moment of life as a precious gift and never take oneself too seriously. Spirituality and music are our emotional anchors – they clear my mind, allay my anxieties and give me internal strength of purpose.

Both of us have been fortunate and blessed to be raised by both sets of grandparents as well as our parents.

Nithya is fortunate to still have her maternal grandmother alive who is excited to have her first great grandchild through this adoption.

The opportunity to learn and interact with our grandparents has shaped our foundation and our outlook on life in totality.

Subbu’s older brother and sister-inlaw have a son who is 9 years old and they live in India. They work in senior leadership roles in Fortune 100 companies. Nithya's younger sister is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Biotechnology Management at UC Irvine, CA. All of our extended family members are thrilled to hear we are adopting. We are committed to building a family that is close-knit and loyal to one another.
