Alexander & Emerald

Thank you so much for considering us as potential adoptive parents for your precious child.

We’re Alexander and Emerald Dodge. We have been married since June 2014. We are parents to two darling biological sons, but due to life and health circumstances, we have decided that adoption is the best step for us to continue to grow our family. We would love to open our home to a daughter(s), and we are prepared to help you during this important time.

Hello!

About Us

We met online in the Summer of 2013 and hit it off right away. We both knew immediately that we’d found our soulmate in each other, and we were married just ten months later, in June 2014. We’ve been madly in love since then. In the years since then, we have welcomed two sons into our home, Gideon and Jesse.

Alexander (“Alex”) is a nuclear electrician in the US Navy. His job has taken us all around the USA; we met in Virginia, then moved to Maryland, and are now stationed in San Diego, CA Alex is a Chief Petty Officer and currently teaches at a training facility on Naval Air Station North Island He is planning to retire from the Navy after twenty years, then transition into the engineering field as a civilian Alex’s job provides us with a steady paycheck, housing, free medical care, and free college

In his free time, Alex loves to fly his drone, go see movies (he’s a major cinephile), jet ski, go on drives with the family, play with his sons, and read. Though he lives in the city now, he’s a country boy at heart, having grown up on rural farms among cows and horses. He loves to visit his parents on their small farm in Tennessee and feel the grass between his toes. He has eight loving siblings, many of whom have children of their own. There’s always cousins to play with when we visit the Dodge Lodge!

Emerald is a USA Today Bestselling Author! The third of four children, she was raised in Virginia and attended college at Old Dominion University, pursuing a degree in International Studies with a minor in Military Science. She began writing as a hobby in her early teens and made the jump into professional writing in her early twenties. Now a five times published author, she is represented by a large literary agency and writes daily under two pen names.

In her spare time, Emerald likes to cook, bake, go on walks and explore her neighborhood, read, write (prose and poetry), talk to her friends, and play with her children She adores spending time with her siblings, nieces and nephews, and parents She is a homemaker as well as a novelist, and you can usually find her at home planning meals, working around the house, and listening to music

Both of us are devoted Catholics and are committed to raising our children in a godly, Christ centered home We attend church weekly and make religious education a priority in our children’s lives.

She embraces being a mother to our boys with open arms and is excited about having a daughter to love and show the meaning of true womanhood. From helping with homework, explaining nature on family walks, preparing delicious meals, or writing the next bestselling novel, she is constantly all-in on supporting her family. She is incredibly generous and sincerely enjoys celebrating even the small life events with each of her family. I can think of no better wife or mother.

About Emerald

Emerald is a fantastic mother, the anchor that holds me steady, and the wind in my sails. Her complete selflessness is manifested daily from the moment she wakes up to make a healthy breakfast for the family to the last good night kiss while she tucks our children into bed.

Encouraging the family to do their best and strengthen our mind, body, and spirit is her passion. She consistently inspires each of us to pursue our passions, dreams, and hobbies all while living life to the fullest herself.

About Alexander

Alex is an absolutely wonderful husband and father. He is one of the most affectionate men I have ever met. He lives to dote on the boys and me, and he’s wild about having a daughter to play with and cuddle. One of his biggest traits is his innate sense of responsibility—to his family, his work, his faith, and his country. He feels deeply the importance of being a present and caring father. He’s also very FUN! He loves to play with his sons, go out on dates with me, spend a day at Legoland, and travel. He’s appropriately indulgent and loves Christmases and birthdays. He’s also extremely intelligent and enjoys helping our sons develop their minds by reading to them, talking to them about all subjects, and helping with homework.

Our Family

Alex comes from a large family that positively swings from the chandeliers! He is the second of nine children, and all of them are friendly, interesting, and kind. His parents are active grandparents who like to host Christmas and Thanksgiving. There’s always laughter at the Dodge Lodge. Grandpa Dodge is a handyman by trade, and Grandma Dodge is a homemaker and horse aficionado with a large herd in her back pasture. Grandchildren are always welcome to ride the horses—with supervision, of course. Grandma and Grandpa Dodge have a large pool, an amazing swing set, and plenty of toys and books for the grandkids.

Emerald is from an FBI family. Her father, Grandpa Welch, is a retired special agent, her brother is an accountant for an FBI field office, and her sister formerly worked for the Bureau before moving to Australia. Sadly, Emerald’s younger brother died in a car accident in 2013, but he is lovingly remembered by his parents, siblings, and many friends. Grandpa and Grandma Welch are now retired; Grandma used to be an editor and has written several books, just like Emerald. They live in a spacious home in Virginia and can’t see the grandkids enough! Grandma Welch is an especially good cook and enjoys teaching grandchildren how to make her famous recipes.

Christmas and birthdays are especially fun at the Dodge house. They go all-out with decorations, presents, special meals, and parties.

Emerald and Alex’s sons are especially close to Emerald’s sister, who (though she is far away in Australia) calls daily and tries to visit them once a year. Her sister likes to take the boys on trips to interesting and exciting places like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, etc.

Alex’s grandparents are still alive, and both of them are sweet and kind to their many descendants. His grandmother emigrated from Italy when she was young and still speaks fluent Italian.

Hobbies

Both Emerald and Alex enjoy close friendships, both from the years before their marriage and since. Alex has many friends from his multiple commands around the country, as well as good relationships with his many siblings, some of whom live in San Diego as well. All of his friends and family are excited and supportive at the prospect of adoption.

Emerald is still best friends with her childhood best friend; they’ve known each other for more than twenty years. She has two other very good friends who provide her with companionship and emotional support. She also has very good relationships with her surviving siblings, and her family fully supports her desire to adopt. Alex’s very favorite pastime is to go spend the afternoon at the movie theater, and if he can’t go to the theater, then watching a good movie at home with his family. Pass the popcorn, please! He also likes to fly small aircraft like model planes, drones, etc. His other hobbies include spending time with his family, doing exciting things on the water like jet skiing, and working with his hands. He is a capable carpenter and amateur handyman.

Emerald LOVES to write. It’s more than a hobby for her; it’s a passion. She has written nearly ten novels (about half of which are published) and has entered countless contests for both poetry and fiction, many of which she’s won. When she’s not writing, she’s probably reading, cooking, going on walks, or watching documentaries on Netflix.

The boys are enrolled in a special ballet class specially designed to introduce the fundamentals of ballet to young boys, and we would love to enroll a daughter in a ballet class alongside them! The boys are also looking forward to swim lessons, soccer through a program at their school, and other sports. Our daughter will be encouraged to exercise and learn teamwork through a sport or other activity. The Navy has brought us all around the country! We’ve lived in several states, and we would love to travel more for leisure in the next few years. We believe travel is the best education available and encourage our children to have an inquisitive, adventurous mindset about foreign locales and cultures. We love to go on long drives and explore our area. We would love to take our children on vacations to foreign countries when they’re a little older, and definitely take a family cruise.

Our Home

The Dodge home is a newly renovated 3br/2b single family home in the heart of San Diego We have a fenced in backyard, a large front yard, a comfortable living room with a huge couch and entertainment center, and a spacious dining and kitchen area Our daughter will have her own bedroom with a large crib, changing table, and rocking chair When she’s older she’ll have a twin bed (she picks the sheets!), a doll house, a toy bin, and fun decorations We live in a privatized military housing subdivision complete with its own daycare center and elementary school There are large, shady playgrounds on nearly every block, the roads are patrolled by private security, and the company that administrates the neighborhood throws large neighborhood parties every few months we love to go to those! The elementary school is well funded and has great ratings; both of our children attend and are very happy there. About a mile down the road, there’s a multicultural fair that happens every year, and we’re close by to restaurants from every cuisine imaginable. The area of San Diego in which we live is filled with people from around the world, so there’s many interesting grocery stores and markets.

Our home is twenty minutes from SeaWorld, forty minutes from Legoland, an hour and half from Disneyland, twenty minutes from the beach, twenty minutes from the San Diego Zoo, and fifteen minutes from historic Balboa Park with all its playgrounds, parkland, and museums.

The Dodge family is based on love love for each other, love for God, love for our country, and love for humanity We all share a love of learning, an endless curiosity to know about the world and meet people from all walks of life We believe strongly in the importance of providing our children with a safe, understanding, and nurturing environment where they can explore who they are and what they were created to do, and we provide as much help as we can in their journeys to becoming productive and well rounded citizens of the USA and the planet. Our daughter will grow up in a home that supports her goals and dreams, whatever they are. She will know from an early age that she can do or be anything the sky is the limit. Our family has a standard of excellence, and she will carry that standard with her as she grows and develops. She will be taught the value of hard work, of honesty, of caring for the underprivileged and dispossessed, of respect for herself and others, and of true, lasting friendship. She will be taught how to be a woman of quality.
