Project 01: Albina Yard Study After researching the tectonics and sustainable choices that compose Albina Yard, designed

by Lever Architecture, I found that the most meaningful choices made were the stimulation of local businesses and the use of renewable resources. Lever Architecture composed this timber constructed office with the use of strategically placed and integrated structural connections.

The

exposure of these connections and relationships between contrasting

materials, like wood and steel, is what process of project one.

The

I

had diagrammed and modeled throughout the

composite drawing highlights these sharp contrasts between

these materials and the ratios at which they are viewed while the hybrid drawing showcases the interconnected systems and their diagrammatic qualities.

Lastly,

the physical model

brings the simplified expression of these concepts to life by highlighting the overpowering that one material may have onto another over time.

Project 02: Connecting Bethlehem Carrying the previous concepts of material connections and contrasts with me I began to develop this performance center. Connecting Bethlehem is made up of three primary masses each designated to a range of functions including residential, performance, and public spaces. Throughout the design process, I focused on the connection between these masses along with the connection of materials and site context. The existing ruin is used as interior and exterior walls as well as a threshold between the assigned programs. Emphasizing the connection is an exterior facade that mimics the interior programs and showcases the exterior transition between recycled brick, locally sourced wood, and glass.

Along with

the use of local materials, the observation lounge frames a perfect view of the historical steel stacks creating a direct relationship with the surrounding context of

Project 03: Death Valley Particulate Research Center Working

with

Lola Lopez, Daniel Habeeb,

we aimed to create a functional

and sustainable research center within one of the hottest climates of world. Located alongside the

Eureka

dunes of

Death Valley California,

this atmospheric research center combats the

extreme heat and dynamic environment with the use of strategic tectonic systems. plethora of natural sand on site for a

Utilizing the

3D printed structure allows for the research center to

serve its designated 8 month time span and dissolve seamlessly back into the natural topography of its surrounding dunes. The uniquely printed structural supports allow for airflow to travel within the building’s walls to keep a consistent passive cooling system throughout the entire building. To power the active cooling systems our researchers continue to harvest the wind with the use of

3D

printed and adaptable bio-plastic wind turbines that surround the

exterior perimeter and can easily be moved to the most efficient area.
