Here at Turnberry Equestrian we follow the ethos of Equido Horsemanship which is based on natural horsemanship principles. We combine our knowledge of horse and rider biomechanics and psychology along with body language and the use of our own energy to create a true bond between horse and rider. We aim to train horse and rider to perform at their best and promote well being and lasting performance for the horses.
Through sound training methods and the most natural environment for our horses, we allow them to be the best they can as our partners. Working with horses as flight animals requires us to adapt our own thinking to be the best partner for our horses to allow them to feel safe and reach their full potential.
Beginners and established riders alike are able to add to their skill set in their chosen discipline and to strengthen their bond with their equine partner.

CATCH OF THE DAY

Guided fly fishing experiences are available for those looking to enjoy the thrill of catching a Scottish trout on the fly, from complete novices taking their first cast to the more experienced angler wishing to improve their skills. Several lochs are within 30mins drive of the hotel and you will be accompanied by your own personal ghillie providing expert tuition and strategies for a unique experience.

SALMON FISHING
25TH FEBRUARY– 31ST OCTOBER
THE RIVER GIRVAN
The River Girvan can be excellent for Salmon and Sea Trout, however similar to many Scottish rivers the Girvan is a spate river and thus dependant on weather conditions and water levels to allow a run of fish. The beat consists of 1.5miles of bank fishing stretching from Girvan harbour and is the first fishable part of the river where the salmon and sea trout enter the river directly from the sea. It is privately managed with ten named pools which only a handful of people have the privilege to fish.
THE STINCHAR
Similar to the Girvan, the Stinchar is lesser known than the “big” rivers such as the Tay or the Spey but offers an excellent location to fish due to less fishing pressure. The beat is located at the upper Stinchar Valley within the small shooting estate of Minuntion. Like the Girvan beat it holds the salmon for longer as they have reached some of their spawning grounds and is less likely to colour after heavy rain. The Stinchar is a spate river like the Girvan with new fresh fish entering after prolonged or heavy rain, which allows the fish to reach the upper regions.

AN INTRODUCTION TO FALCONRY

HAWK WALK

Have a gentle stroll around the forest and grounds of Turnberry with free flying hawks following on and flying to your gloved hand. The walk starts with an introduction where your falconer guide introduces you to the hawks and gives an induction on the falconry equipment and hawk handling.
