IJAS: perched on the side of a mountain amongst green forests and rocky terrain, it has been known since the mid-20th century mainly for its donkeys. Mijas has amazing beaches, with everything from cliffs and crystal clear waters, to fine golden sands popular for parties; it has part of the Senda Litoral, an amazing walkway along the Costa del Sol where you can enjoy beautiful views of both the sea and mountains; and while it may not be quite as well-known for its huge mansions and exclusive urbanisations as Marbella, this is certainly not because it can’t hold its own, making it another property paradise in the area. Why get on the padron? IT’S extremely important to register on the padron (census), here’s why: The number of people registered as residents in a town affects the resources and financial aid that the town receives from the Central Government. The more people there are on the padron, the better for the town and all its residents. There are around 87,000 people registered as residents in Mijas, but there are thought to be many more. 1,000 new registrations = one more firefighter 2,400 new registrations = one more rubbish lorry 2,500 new registrations = four more police officers 3,800 new registrations = eight more street sweepers As well as this, Mijas would get: more cleaning equipment and rubbish containers, more police cars and equipment for the police and fire department.
Register with the health service ONCE you are on the Mijas padron and have the Certificado de Empadronamiento, take this and your NIE/TIE document to the health centre for the district where you live and you will receive assistance to register and have a family doctor assigned to you.
