The only choice for successful adver sing… The Euro Weekly News (EWN) is the most popular and longest running free English language newspaper in Europe. With a circulation of more than half a million copies each month, the six different editions of the EWN can be found in more than 4,000 popular distribution points throughout Southern Spain and the Balearic Islands. We have carefully researched exactly where the expatriate population is concentrated, and ensure the paper reaches it. Our distribution list continues to expand as more people relocate to the sunny climes of Southern Europe. EWN covers more international and local news than any other foreign media publication in Spain and is read by more than half a million readers a week – the only comprehensive guide to news, views and insights into life amongst the expatriate population on the Costa del Sol, Axarquia, Almeria, Costa Blanca (S), Costa Blanca (N) and the island of Mallorca. Each edition is packed with localised news, a full TV and satellite guide, as well as European news and financial data. Items of local interest and also featured, along with entertainment news and updates. In all, we believe we are providing the most comprehensive and definitive guide aimed at the expatriate population in Southern Europe. All of the EWN editions are available in print and in virtual format on our dedicated website www.euroweeklynews.com, which is visited by over 50,000 people a month, meaning your

advertisement will be seen by more people in the EWN than in any other form of media. The majority of our readers are aged between 35 and 70 years old, the demographic with the highest amount of disposable income. We know what they like, how they live their lives and how they read the EWN. (See page 16) Our tailored advertising packages are suited to how you want to showcase your product, with extremely competitive rates to match. Our bilingual team is the backbone of the business, working with you to ensure a smooth transition from starting your EWN journey to the end product; your finished advertisement. It is at your disposal 100 per cent of the time, from the senior management through to the sales and marketing staff, production, design and editorial department. We also have a close connection with the community, where we work hard to support local charities and those in need. Many people look to the EWN for the latest charity information. Our aim is to help the expatriate community through good times and bad, and our affiliation with the British Consulates and Town Halls in each area allows us to keep our readers up-to-date with the latest and relevant information. Impressive on its own merit, this amount of growth is all the more incredible as it has been achieved against the backdrop of a worldwide recession. And even more exciting plans for growth in the future are being implemented. And even more honour was bestowed on the group when it was awarded a special prize by the Spanish newspaper industry. EWN was nominated in the AEEPP (Asociacion Española de Publicaciones Periodicas) ninth annual awards ceremony, the only English language publication do be so, and was delighted to pick up a prize. Nicki Burgess Operations Director

‘Just being here due to the buzz and the passion of the team.’ Nicki Burgess was a client of the EWN before joining the ever-expanding team. Already a successful businesswoman in her own right, she brings an eclectic mix of no-nonsense professionalism and light-hearted resolve, guaranteeing results every time. She is bilingual and bicultural, so she thinks like an English and Spanish person. Her adaptability and versatility are what sets her apart. Her dynamic professional and personal relationship with Michel and Steven only further cements the closeness of the EWN family, pushing to produce the best paper possible, for the benefit of the expatriates who have come to rely on the paper as an essential source of information for life in Spain. Why did you choose to work for the EWN? Having lived and worked in Spain for most of my life I understand the importance of working for a reputable company and gaining job satisfaction. What is the highlight of your day? It may sound like a cliché, but just being here due to the buzz and the passion of the team.

How do you contribute to a positive working environment? I contribute by doing the best job that I can and working as part of a team. Any anecdotes about working at the EWN? In the first few weeks of starting at the EWN, I remember trying to make a good impression but as I was casually walking out of my office, I caught my heel in my trouser hem. I slid across the floor whilst grabbing onto the door handle of the accounts office to break my fall. The door swung open, which resulted in the chief accountant Amalia laughing uncontrollably, as the rest of the office gathered round and were soon in stitches.

Michel, that is most important to me. People often refer to us as the “Cagney and Lacey” of the Costa del Sol. Both hard-working women, we take our jobs very seriously. We have a great working relationship and I feel privileged to call her a close friend and also a mentor.

‘The company is honest and reliable.’ Why did you choose to work for the EWN? I knew I would be working for a great company. I was previously a client of the newspaper, so knew exactly what kind of business I would be working for and that was what attracted me. The company is honest and reliable. It annoys me when I hear both nationals and expatriates claiming that they cannot find employment during the present tough economic times. I know from experience with the EWN, as do other colleagues, that the paper regularly offers new job are determined by the need to find willing and able individuals

taken hard work, determination and great leadership from Michel and Steven. What is the highlight of your day? It would have to be the mornings in the office when I know I have a fulfilling day ahead, but not knowing what the day is going to bring is exciting. We have sales targets that have to be met, but I always try to go above and beyond what is expected of me personally. How do you contribute to a positive working environment? By helping my colleagues when things in the office get a little stressful around deadlines, essential for a weekly newspaper that produces six separate editions. ‘EWN - the best newspaper on the coast’ Why did you choose to work for the EWN? I was looking for an opportunity to begin my career in sales; something challenging that I could get stuck into and find my own potential. It was at this time that I heard the EWN were recruiting. Knowing they produce the best newspaper on the coast and being such a reputable company, I jumped at the chance and applied straight away. What is the highlight of your day? Arriving at the office and planning the busy day ahead. Every day is unique at the EWN and the first deal of the day is always a great feeling. We all have goals which have to be met to produce the best newspaper and things can get stressful at times, so the only way to achieve our goals is by working with passion and supporting each other. For instance, if I hear of a good news story, I will pass on the information to the editorial team and let them take over. Every day is a new opportunity for us all to come together and make next

‘I enjoy the challenges & pressures’ Why did you choose to work for the EWN? HAVING worked for both the English weekly papers in Tenerife I knew the high pressure environment of the newspaper world was one I wanted to stay in. I really enjoy the challenges and pressure of the job, so when I made the decision to move back to the mainland I wanted to continue in the business. Having lived here before and knowing the papers produced here, there was only one real choice. So, as EWN is the biggest English language media group in Spain, it was an obvious move to try and get a job with it.

What is the highlight of your day? There is a great team of people in the group, each one of whom is highly professional and takes a huge pride in the product that is produced. A job is always more enjoyable when you get on with the people around you, we all spend a lot of time each day ensuring that the papers are produced to the highest standard. When the finished pages come through the system and end up on my desk, it is a great feeling to see what we have all managed to achieve. How do you contribute to a positive working environment? All of the departments work very closely together and I try to ensure that mine is always in close contact with every other part of the daily process, from editorial to design. That way we are aware of the content of each page of the six newspapers we produce as they are created. This allows us to make any changes needed to keep our standards high. Any anecdotes about working at the EWN? Last year we produced the biggest English language paper that any free publication has ever achieved. It was a monster 200 pages for the Costa del Sol edition and it was a hectic week to ensure that we all managed to pull that off as well as still produce the other five publications. But we did it and the feeling of pride when we all saw the printed copy was amazing.

‘We do it with passion.’ Why did you choose to work for the EWN? I liked the idea of working for a newspaper, and in particular, the challenge of working on an English speaking publication. them into tangible products that will benefit their business. What is the highlight of your day? My highlight is on a Thursday, when the new editions are out and people can see the results of our hard work. Every newspaper we create contains a piece of our heart; from the when the paper is printed and there are no mistakes. There are very few jobs where you have a tangible product that you can be proud of. How do you contribute to a positive working environment? Making people laugh, we are like a big family and everyone is

At the end of the day, passion is within all of us. When the paper is well received by the readers and clients are successfully generating more business from an advertisement you have created for them. Each week we feel this without falling into a routine, we are a big family, united with passion. We need to stick together for a cause, and passion helps us move forward in spite of how hard times can be. EWN equals passion, and there is simply no EWN without passion. Any anecdotes about working at the EWN? I have so many, but once when I had just started working for the newspaper, Michel came in with a megaphone and was

‘EWN ... everyone gets it. We have the numbers. ’ Why did you choose to work for the EWN? I love the world of design, and having previously worked in a Spanish newspaper, I saw it as a challenge to work on a noncontinually challenge ourselves, so that we always work at our best, and that is exactly what the EWN is all about.

‘We lead, others follow.’ Why did you choose to work for the EWN? I had worked in several design studios and as a teacher, but had never touched on the subject of working in the Press. I was ready for a new experience and I liked the idea of working for an English language publication as it would be a challenge for me, which is what I wanted.

What is the highlight of your day? Definitely a Thursday, when after two sleepless nights thinking about adverts, pages, pdfs, etc, when I see the completed newspaper, I know all the effort was worthwhile. Also, it shows my skills are as a designer and the fact that I always put 100 per cent into everything I do.

Over the last 14 years working for the EWN, I have seen that Michel and Steven do things on their own terms. They have systematically put together a close team, all working at the same speed and with the same attitude. The

I always try to help and encourage my peers through the tough times that can occur during the production of a weekly newspaper. With EWN having six editions, it can get a little hectic at times, but we all pull together. I know everything about the EWN, weathering every storm, which I think has earned the respect of my peers. THE Euro Weekly News (EWN) Media Group has picked up a prestigious award from the Spanish newspaper industry. It was nominated in the AEEPP (Asociaciòn Española de Publicaciones Periòdicas) ninth annual awards ceremony in Madrid. Members of the EWN team travelled to Madrid where they were joined by other media publications from across Spain. President of the Community of Madrid, Ignacio Gonzalez, presented the award. It was made for the dedicated deliverance for more than 15 years of its free weekly publication to the English expatriate and English-speaking community in Spain and the wider digital audience. The award was accepted on behalf of the entire EWN group by Operations Director Nicki Burgess. Forty awards were presented to media publications, EWN being the only English-language publication to receive one. Nicki Burgess said: “We are honoured to receive the award and privileged to be here with our Spanish colleagues from other media groups.” Gonzalez asked who EWN targeted and Nicki explained it was the largest English-language publication keeping expatriates in Spain informed of news across its six editions. He was impressed with the coverage and asked when EWN attendance, passing comment that he could tell the team were from Malaga with their southern Spain suntans. EWN owner Michel Euesden said: “This award is for no one person, it is for all at EWN. We do not work as individuals, we work as a team. We pull together to ensure that each week we deliver to the English-speaking community a newspaper giving local, national and international news. “We also deliver 24/7 breaking news digitally to our readers and clients. Without the commitment and dedication of the whole team we would be hard-pressed to meet our own expectations.” Michel added: “We are proud of where Euro Weekly News fits into the community, and we are equally proud of the team. We are thankful to the AEEPP for their recognition and award. “A big thank you to everyone and importantly a big thank you to our readers for their loyalty, and our clients for their

What others think of EWN as supporters of the community... Working hard to benefit others Being awarded “Expat Agency of the Year” by the Euro Weekly News at their awards ceremony last year was such an honour. Several key community figures received EWN recognition for their untiring support and effort on behalf of the local expatriate population, and it was so humbling to see so many worthy winners in one room. Posi ve ac on and a so spot for good causes Michel and Steven Euesden are advocates of hard work and high standards. Personally and in passionate about sharing their success and strive to make a positive impact on the local community. Each good cause and request for assistance is a campaign to raise money for sick children, a request for publicity or sponsorship for events that will benefit the region, local businesses or people. In 2014 they were active on the Costa del Sol, providing financial support to a film festival. They also threw the weight of the EWN media group behind the Positively Pink Butterfly Ball for desperately ill children. They have also been involved in supporting the fundraising for several children in need of funds to help improve their quality of life.

June 2014: Children with Cancer UK Special Summer Party Marbella's famous Villa Tiberio hosted one of the events of the summer in aid of a very worthwhile cause. The EWN was official media partner for the party which raised thousands for the charity which works closely with London's Great Ormond Street hospital.

October 2014: Positively Pink Ball The Oceano Beach Hotel was packed for this event to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Charity. The EWN was proud to support the event that raised a stunning ¤25,000 for the organisation that helps screen expat women for cancer, and supports them through the process of diagnosis and treatment. Funds are also raised for Positively Blue to help screen men for prostate cancer.

October 2014: Marbella International Film Festival 2014 In October, EWN sponsored the ninth annual Marbella Film Festival, bringing together actors, directors, writers and critics to view dozens of films. The five-day event culminated in a gala dinner and an awards ceremony held at the H10 Andalucía Plaza Hotel in Puerto Banús. It also provided a backdrop for artists to promote their work. This type of event is vital as it reminds people how much Marbella has to offer. Lara Gracie, Keira Alvarez Turner and Tomas Leighton All three of these desperately ill children had reason to thank the Euro Weekly News, and more importantly our generous readers. Thousands of euros have been raised after the EWN highlighted their need for funds for vital medical treatment. We will continue to back them in whatever way we can in 2015.
