Solar bandwagon

Anna Ellis

SOLAR energy ideas have now arrived in Torrevieja as the first 83,000 square metre plant is currently being planned.

Only 10 metres separate the proposed land from the most protected area of the Natural Park of the salt flats, the CV 905 and the CV 945 of Los Montesinos.

The fixation on the solar energy sector is so intense that even in a municipality like Torrevieja, where there is hardly any land available for new activities, a project for a solar plant of some importance has just been presented.

If authorised, it would be the first solar plant located in Torrevieja.

The proposal is located on the plot of land bounded by the junction of the CV 905 road that connects Torrevieja with Rojales and the CV 945 of Los Montesinos, which delimits the Natural Park of the salt flats of Torrevieja and La Mata.

It is located in the middle of the corridor between the two lagoons, identified as a common passage for wetland birds.

AENA (the airport management group which includes AlicanteElche Airport) closed the first quarter of 2023 with 77,466,138 passengers, 32.7 per cent more than in the same period last year and 1.9 per cent more than in the first four months of 2019.

Nearly 24 million passengers were reached in April, exceeding prepandemic data for the fourth consecutive month. This also represents an increase of 16.4 per cent compared to April 2022.

Of the total travellers recorded in April, 23,756,597 were commercial passengers.

Of these, 15,996,343 passengers travelled on international flights, down 0.1 per cent from April 2019 and up 16.9 per cent from 2022.

Meanwhile, 7,760,254 passengers travelled on domestic flights, 8.8 per cent more than before the pandemic and 15.4 per cent more than last year.

AlicanteElche Airport alone recorded 1,435,274 passengers representing a 7 per cent increase compared to April 2019 and a 19.5 per cent increase compared to April 2022.

The rain didn’t appear

THE seventh round of the CarpRUs Spring Series was fished at the El Bosquet complex. Everyone had been carefully watching the weather as heavy rain had been predicted, but in the end the match was fished in cloudy but warm conditions with a light but awkward breeze.

As tends to be the case here at the moment, the fishing was patchy, to say the least. What is a ‘hot’ peg one day is not always the next. The match was won by one of the longest serving members of the club, Jeremy Fardoe. Jeremy often does not get the results he deserved so it was nice to see him weighin 16.12kg from peg 1 caught using pole and an assortment of different hookbaits. A broken pole section caused by a larger barbel, took some of the shine off his day.

Second, continuing his run of good form, was Roy Dainty with 12.50kg from peg 27. Roy used pole and pellet tactics. Third was Paul Davis from peg 1b with 11.58kg (pole and pellet) and fourth with 10.90kg was Steve Fell on peg 7 (pole and bread).
