TRAFFIC fines in Alicante Province hit a new high last year.
Nearly 191,000 penalties were issued in 2022, the highest number of the last decade and a 19 per cent increase with regards to the previous year.


The DGT national traffic authorities have just published the results for 2022, which also show that up to two thirds of the total number of fines more than 123,870 were due to speeding.
In fact, penalties for breaking the speed limit have spiralled over recent years, going from just over 58,400 in 2021 to 89,200 last year and constituting the only traffic offence to continue increasing each year, doubling the number for 2017.
The vast majority of speeders were caught by fixed radars, especially those at the entrances and exits to Sant Joan tunnel on the A 70 motorway 40 per cent of the total and a speed camera on the N332 in Villajoyosa.
After speeding, the second most frequent traffic infraction last year was driving without the ITV/MOT, with more than 26,000 fines issued in 2022a nearly identical figure to the previous year.
“The aim is to raise awareness among local young people about inclusive sport, which they can join in with volunteering activities,” said Alfaz Education councillor Dolores Albero.
