Lanza conceded that this does leave room for the possibility that Russian oil could be blended with supplies from other sources.

Lanza reassured the public that the ships arriving in Spain are complying with the sanctions imposed on Russian products following the Ukrainian invasion. He also highlight­ ed his company, Exolum’s ongoing collaboration with the government to strictly obey laws and prevent the import of oil coming from Russia.

Lanza said that Exolum does require importers to provide a declaration to say that the oil was not produced in Russia, though he accepted this method was not foolproof.
