MARTIAL art fans in Torremolinos will be in their element as it has been confirmed the Palacio San Miguel will host the Spanish ITF Taekwondo Championship.

The event is set to take place on May 5, 6 and 7 and will bring together more than 500 athletes from all over the country.

The councillor for Sports, Ramon Alcaide, confirmed: “This Spanish ITF Taekwon­do Promotion Championship will be attended by more than 1,500 people.

“This means more than 3,000 overnight stays and an economic impact of more than €200,000.”

The councillor also stressed that “the importance of this type of event is a perfect example of the town’s aspiration to break the seasonal nature of sport.”

The Palacio San Miguel will be the venue for this sporting event, which is expected to attract more than 1,500 people, including athletes, referees and organisers, as well as parents and relatives of the competitors.

The Spanish ITF Taekwon­do Promotion Championship is scheduled to take place in eight competition areas with their respective scoreboards and electronic system, as well as being broadcast via streaming.

Girl injured after bus accident

A 13-YEAR-OLD girl was transferred to the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital after being hit by the bus on the Gran Vía Escultor Francisco Salzillo , in the municipality of Murcia .

The event occurred around 7.58pm on Tuesday March 28, when the ‘1­1­2’ Emergency Coordination Centre in the Region of Murcia received a number of calls reporting the accident.

A Local Police patrol, a Mobile Emergency Unit of the Emergency and Emergency Management ‘061’, travelled to the scene. The girl was treated “in situ” and then taken by ambulance to hospital where she remained for treatment.
