Semana Santa celebrations
HOLY WEEK celebrations in Nijar got off to an excellent start on Palm Sunday, on Sunday, April 2 for the town’s biggest edition yet. Authorities have planned a bumper programme of events in each of the town’s nine areas, which will last until Easter Sunday, April 9
Celebrations began on Friday, March 31, with a public reading in the town centre. From there, Holy Week officially began on Palm Sunday with processions planned in various locations in the town throughout the week.
The mayor of Nijar, Esperanza Pérez Felices, is thrilled about the growth of the celebrations. She explained “The Semana Santa festivities are an essential part of our heritage and a major attraction for visitors from around the world,” she added, “We are grateful for the hard work of the brotherhoods, parishes, and cultural associations that have helped keep these traditions alive”.

The Blue Trail will connect the Playa del Censo beach with the Lance de la Virgen beach in a safe and sustainable way.
Although the path runs along a wide stretch of more than four kilometres along the Abderita coastline, the most important actions will be carried out along the route between the neighbourhoods of La Caracola and Lance de la Virgen.

In the first section, between La Caracola and the descent towards La Rana beach, a pedestrian itinerary will be built to the south consist processions and ceremonies until Easter Sunday, including the Procession of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno on Thursday, April 6, the Santísima Virgen de los Dolores and the Procesión del Santo Entierro on Friday, April 7.
