Another world
ELCHE’S Plaza del Congreso Eucarístico is hosting an out of this world photography exhibition from Wednesday, January 25. The ‘Other Worlds’ exhibition was funded by the city council in collaboration with La Caixa Foundation, showing 40 different photographs. The public exhibition blends science and art to show the kaleidoscopic beauty of the solar system.
The 40 photographs were collected during various different space missions over the last six decades and were developed and curated by North American-based author, artist and photographer, Michael Benson. Benson has studied and developed the originally black and white photographs to display the vibrance of space, and to bring space closer to the public. Benson also processes the pictures to portray whole landscapes in mosaic form, rather than close-ups of particular surfaces.
Benson explained his aims of the project saying he wants space expeditions to have a legacy beyond the scientific knowledge they have offered, so he creates artwork to memorialise expeditions.
The free, outdoor exhibition is open until February 16.
The group’s January match play competition also continued with Roger Williams and Bill Parkinson set to face off in one semifinal, with another semi-final between Jeff and Colin.
The group welcomed four new members last week including several new members who play with the ‘Chicks with Sticks’ golf club.
Guys & Dolls is mainly made up of expat residents, and welcomes any players with any level of experience. The group meets for weekly golf meets at Elche Escuela de Golf every Monday for a 10:30am start. More information is available from the group’s Facebook page ‘Guys & Dolls golf Society’.
