FIRE WARNING
ANOTHER large blaze broke out on the Costa del Sol in the early hours of Tuesday, June 28 in the hills of Mijas leaving hous‐ es evacuated and concern among residents. Forty professionals came out to battle the scrubland fire in the Paraje Atalaya area, which spread rapidly with the flames being fanned by strong winds. After being announced just after midnight, the fire was extinguished at 8.30pm and left around 2,000 people evacuated. The fire was the second large blaze this month for

of the biggest natural risks at this time of year. Last year saw one of the worst fires in the Costa del Sols history when a blaze in the Sierra Bermeja burned for 46 days and destroyed
10,000 hectares of wild land. To help prevent similar tragedy this year, the Euro Weekly News is calling on both locals and visitors to stay vigilant, follow all lo‐ cal fire prevention laws, and call in any suspicious fires they see to the local authorities on 112.
