Linda Hall ON June 21 people Raised a Glass to Dads Past, Pre‐ sent and Future at the Tataki restaurant in Los Al‐ cazares (Murcia). Ian Durran acted as DJ and quizmaster with his wife Maureen assisting, as always. The event, quiz and raf‐ fle raised €1,385 which was presented to the three local animal shelters, Pro‐ tectora Animales Perros del Sol (PAPS), the Cami‐ nando con Ellos animal charity in Los Infiernos (Murcia) and Malcolm’s Cats. “We are all always des‐ perate for funds and volun‐ teers,” said Jacqui Thwait‐ es from PAPS. “The money raised will help to pay our ever‐growing vet bills.” Organiser Lesley Eburne thanked everyone for their support and Elaine Gibson for her help, as well as the shelter volunteers: “They

all do such a rewarding but sometimes very sad job.” And it was at this point that it was also appropri‐ ate to raise a glass to Les‐ ley herself, a tireless fundraiser for local animal charities as well as the San Jose Obrero children’s home in Orihuela and the Children’s Care Home in Elche. “This is my last event as I
am retiring as the main or‐ ganiser for events,” Lesley explained. “I would like to thank all those who have helped and supported me with various charities over the years,” she said. “I will still be assisting with events and I hope that local people will con‐ tinue to give their valuable support,” Lesley added.
“All our local charities al‐ ways need help and volun‐ teers.”
