Upgrade works RINCON DE LA VICTORIA Council is upgrading Calle Marina in works worth €159,904. The plans will see 70 unemployed people given work, while the road will be remodelled with new paving and facilities. Mayor of Rincon de la Victoria Francisco Salado visited the works with territorial delegate of Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration in Malaga, Monica Alejo, and councillor for Infrastructures ,Borja Ortiz. The works will involve the demolition of the existing floor, excavation and placement of the pipes, and new paving. In the southern area of the street near Calle Camino Viejo de Velez, there will also be improvements to sanitation and the installation of a new stormwater network, while pipework and electrical cables will be replaced.

100TH ANNIVERSARY: Members marked the occasion by raising thousands of euros.

AS the Royal British Legion celebrates its 100th anniver‐ sary, members of the Nerja branch have been marking the occasion by raising thou‐ sands of euros for this year’s Poppy Appeal. In total, the Royal British Legion raised around €2,000 at its 100‐year anniversary event on Sunday, October 17. Poppy Appeal organiser Dorothy Allen said: “My thanks to the 19 walkers and two dogs who took part in our sponsored Poppy Walk. The walk started at the An‐ dalus Hotel and ended at the Chapel Bar in Nerja.” She added: “We all had an enjoyable day, lots of fun and

laughter and a wonderful buffet put on by Sharon and Fred, hosts of the Chapel Bar. “A raffle was held which raised €150. In all we think €2,000 will be raised by this our 100‐year anniversary event. Mrs Allen said: “Well done everyone, many thanks to all of you.” To continue this year’s Poppy Appeal, the Royal British Legion Nerja is now selling tickets to its Poppy Ball on Friday, November 12 at the Caves Restaurant in Maro. The ball will take place from 7.30pm with entertain‐ ment by Ricky Lavazza and

Laura Elen. Tickets are priced €40 for members and €45 for guests and include drinks, canapes, a three‐course meal, wine and water. The dress code is evening dress or suit and tie and tick‐ ets can be bought by contact‐ ing Kim Bowe on 711 077 576 or Katherine Bradley on 671 120 293.

DONOSTIA‐born artist Juan Ilarraz is holding an Art exhibition in support of the Almuñecar Spanish Asso‐ ciation Against Cancer (AECC). The exhibition will be held at La Galería de Almuñe‐ car and proceeds from the sale of the works will go to the AECC, as the painter told the president of the Lo‐ cal Board, Cochi García. Juan Ilarraz is a painter from San Sebastian and lives in Almuñecar. The exhibition will take place until the end of the month in the La Galería on Calle Vélez in Almuñecar. The exhibition has a collection of more than 40 works, the proceeds of which will go towards the fight against cancer. The stunning exhibition will be open to the public in the mornings and the evenings, from 6pm to 10pm, every day. This includes weekends. The exhibi‐ tion will run until the last week of October. The gallery is located at Calle Velez, 2, next to the Plaza de la Constitucion.
