Seasonal Kiosk Requests FOLLOWING the publication on the Virtual Board of Elec‐ tronic Office on Friday May 14, the deadline has now been announced for the application of seasonal kiosks in Nerja. Javier López, the councillor for Commerce, has said that applications for kiosks intended for the sale of ice cream, sweets and non‐alcoholic beverages is now open and can now be submitted with the relevant documentation until Monday, May 28. Applications can be submitted at the Town Hall Registry. The councillor announced: “In total this season, nine kiosks will be installed, of which four will be located on the Burriana beach promenade, one on the promenade under the Balcón de Europa, another on the Plaza de los Cangrejos and also on the Paseo de El Chucho next to the Chíllar river, in the Plaza Clara Campoamor and in Calle Málaga next to the Cuatro Caminos building.” Evaluations of the applications will be based on the appli‐ cant’s unemployment situation, the number of family mem‐ bers in the family unit, the economic income of the family unit, the situation with housing and disability and various other social criteria. There will only be one licence granted per family unit or to one particular person.

SHOE BOX APPEAL: In total, 100 boxes were provided for families in need. TO celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the founding of the Royal British Legion, I decided to do something useful to help the people in need in Nerja who are having a difficult time. I volunteer for the Food Bank in Nerja and found that there was a shortfall of toiletries for adults and childre/ babies. I asked around my friends and some businesses to help make up shoe boxes with an assortment of toiletries. I needed 100 boxes, one for each year celebrating the anniversary and one for each family that was in need in Nerja. To my surprise last weekend 100 boxes appeared. With the help of two of my friends Pam and Tracy they helped carry them to my car where David, my very support-

ive husband David, packed them in and then last Thursday afternoon we drove down to the Solidaria food bank in Nerja to present the boxes, all 100 of them. With the help of Val Thom, two lovely young Spanish ladies and friends Helen Elkins, Sue Wagstaff and Eddie Bowe, chairman of Nerja Royal British Legion and his wife Kim we staggered in with all the boxes. We were asked if we would like to stay and hand out the boxes to some of the people who were in need of help. Helen and I stayed and helped, it was so heartwarming to see the look on their faces as they looked in the boxes. I gave each child an arm band that made them smile. They were so polite, said thank you and

without any prompting, we were asked to go back next Tuesday to hand out the other half of the boxes, so Helen and I will be there. When people handed over their boxes to me they were asked if they could donate €1 and were given a raffle ticket and on Friday at the Punta Lara Bar, the draw took place. Seven prizes were drawn and the €100 was given to this year’s Poppy Appeal, so two charities benefited from this challenge. My greatful thanks to everyone who donated a box and a euro to all the people who helped me achieved this challenged . Dorothy Allen Poppy Appeal Organiser Nerja 643 212 944
