€7 MILLION PORT BOOST
A HUGE cash injection looks set to transform Motril Port. The Port Authority of Motril is working on two ambitious pro‐ jects which will see €7 million in‐ vested into the fish market and re‐ ducing energy consumption. The majority of the cash will go towards ‘portsolarmobility’ aimed at changing mobility within the port area to achieve zero CO2 emissions and reduce mainte‐ nance costs and energy consump‐ tion. The idea is to convert the fossil‐ fuel burning engines of all of the port’s fleet, transport machinery, lorries and cranes to electric. To achieve this, a series of pho‐ tovoltaic fields will be installed at‐ tached to lithium ion batteries to store the necessary solar energy. The energy will be generated by plates on the roof of new in‐ spection areas in the Las Azucenas dock and on the top of other Port Authority buildings, such as the

equivalent to 35 per cent of the monthly labour cost per work‐ er, is aimed at companies with an average workforce of 20 workers and that since March 14, 2020, have been fully or partially covered by the ERTE, in addition to being up to date with their obligations with So‐ cial Security among other re‐ quirements. The Board will pay a single payment of €2,020 per worker (equivalent to four monthly payments) with a maximum of €30,300 per month and the re‐ quests will be processed by the SAE ex officio so that compa‐ nies “do not have to provide any additional documentation” but rather they will use the da‐ ta already available to the labour authorities and Social Security.
earmarked for the project, with fi‐ nancial support from the Junta de Andalucia which has agreed to
provide European fishing funds. The scheme has been designed for ‘future retrofitting’ when the Port of Motril Infrastructure Mas‐ ter Plan is executed, which will turn the fishing dock into ‘a great platform’ for freight traffic. The remodelling includes the replacement of the cameras at the port, along with the floor and the auction area “to adapt and im‐ prove the increasingly demanding requirements that the administra‐ tions establish in terms of health.” “A grandstand will also be set up open to the public from which people can witness the spectacle of the auction and sale of fish,” said a port spokesperson. A new cafeteria and restaurant area is also planned, with a terrace overlooking the sea, along with im‐ provements to service infrastruc‐ tures. The project has been presented to the European Union to finance 60 per cent of the total cost.
