HOSPITALITY RETURNS

THE Balearic Government made an appeal to bar and restaurant owners and their customers to be responsible when terraces reopened on Tuesday, March 2 and to observe social distanc‐ ing rules. Government Spokesperson and Eco‐ nomic Model Minister, Iago Negueru‐ ela said: “Be careful, we cannot afford to throw away in a week everything that we have achieved in the last few months?” He also warned that “the slightest rise in infections will result in immediate closure.” The new rules allowing bar, restau‐ rant and café terraces to open at 50 per cent capacity until 5pm, plus a 15 minute clean up time will be in force for 15 days “Greater openness depends on our behaviour,” said Negueruela, who stressed that it’s up to those who run the premises and their customers to be responsible. “It’s going to be a slow process. We

must continue to limit social life and we cannot return to drinking in plazas all afternoon,” added Negueruela, who also stressed that bars are only al‐ lowed to serve alcohol to customers on their terraces and can only sell alco‐ hol with food to take away after the terraces close at 5pm. The Restoration Mallorca‐CAEB group, says it understands the Govern‐ ment’s call for people to be responsi‐ ble, but has issued a message of its own. “Restoration CAEB gives a warning to the authorities to intensify the con‐ trol of illegal drinking and meetings in homes, which is where most infections take place and monitor mobility to completely flatten the curve,” said the CAEB statement.

Restaurant terraces open with restrictions in place.

REGISTER FOR VACCINATION AGE CONCERN Mallorca has is‐ sued advice to British residents on the island with regards to vaccinations and how to quali‐ fy for them with those over 80 next in line. In order for anyone to re‐ ceive this Covid vaccination it is imperative that you have Spanish Seguridad Social Na‐ tional Health Insurance, in oth‐ er words the Tarjeta Sanitaria and are registered at your local PAC or Centro de Salud or Unidad Salud Básica health centre. These centres where you are registered will contact you

by phone to advise you when to go to the centre for your vaccination. Should you have a disabled elderly or chronically ill person living at home, contact your lo‐ cal Spanish National Health GP and inform them that you wish to be put on the list for a vacci‐ nation at home or speak to your centre. Unfortunately, those of you who do not have Spanish Na‐ tional Health (Seguridad Social) and only have private health insurance, please contact your insurance provider but at pre‐ sent NO vaccines are being al‐

located for the private sector. At present those aged over 90 are being vaccinated to‐ gether with teachers, opti‐ cians, dentists, police and oth‐ er front‐line staff. Every time a group finishes another will start. However, a different vaccine which is not

designated for the over 50s will start to be issued next week in designated areas. If you need any assistance with registering for Mallorca only, please call Jackie of Age Concern Mallorca on 678 352 040 who will do her best to help you.

ADVICE: For British residents on the island.
