HONORARY APPOINTMENT
SPAIN’S queen, Queen Letizia, has accepted an honorary appointment from a religious brother hood in Torre del Mar, Malaga. The royal was recog nised as ‘camarera mayor honoraria’ by the Her manadad de la Virgen del Carmen in the Axarquia town. The position was rati fied in a letter sent to the brotherhood by the queen’s secretary, Jose Manuel Zuluera. The ap pointment had previously been suggested at a gen eral meeting of the Her manadad in October 2019, before being sent to the royal palace for its ap

Much better visibility VELEZMALAGA Local Police vehicles have been adapted to European regula tions and equipped with new markings to improve their visibility. The new markers aim to ‘ho mogenise the image of emergency ve hicles’ to make stand out more and ‘ensure greater safety of officers and pedestrians, especially when signalling any emergency.’ However, the move, which is includ ed in the Local Police Improvement Plan which the municipal government has been working on since the launch of the legislature, has not gone down well with all parties. The PP has demanded to know why the council has spent €12,000 in la belling the vehicles. Spokesman Delgado Bonilla wants to go “to the end” to clarify the matter and regrets that funds are allocated to secondary issues “instead of dedicating them to solve the serious needs of the body.” He expressed his “indignation” that the government team is focused on spending for such issues “instead of solving the chaos that force is in, with an alarming lack of staff, a huge disor ganisation, lack of materials and poor
