LUCKY shopper María Gracia López Salado has bagged a new car top prize in a drive to boost local trade. More than 30,000 names were entered into the draw in the raffle organised by associa tions of local merchants: Com ercio Sexitano, Comercio Vivo de Almuñecar and the Associa tion of Merchants, Craftsmen and Professionals of La Her radura, in collaboration with Almuñecar Council. The winning ticket was drawn in the Plaza de la Consti tución on Monday, January 4, in the presence of Mayor Trinidad Herrera and the Coun cillor for Commerce, Francisco Robles, together with com merce representatives. First baby for 2021 BABY Juan Antonio has made history at Axar quia Hospital by being the first baby born in 2021. Both the baby boy, who weighed 3.42 kilos and measures 51cm, and his mum are doing well. Juan is the second child of the couple from Almaya, who also have a daughter, four, called Daniela. Introducing Juan and his family, Salud Axar quia hasn’t revealed exactly what time Juan was born, but tweeted: “He has already be come part of the histo ry of our hospital by becoming the first baby of the #Axarquía to be born in 2021.”

She said she had shopped in many different local businesses but the lucky ticket was from Little Baúl run by Conchi Béjar Cuesta. “After winning the car I can only ask for health and work,” said Maria. Herrera stressed the impor tance of supporting local busi nesses and buying locally “even more so at this time, after such a painful 2020 for everyone.” Herrera said the initiative “has been an incentive that has encouraged people to buy in Almuñecar and La Herradura and to participate in this raffle. “We have seen the number of participants and it brings great satisfaction and joy to see our businesses selling and people buying in our munici pality.”
