MALAGABASED FCDO em ployee, Michelle Stewart, is among four UK nationals in Spain named in the New Year Honours List. Michelle Stewart, opera tions manager of the Foreign, Commonwealth & Develop ment Office’s consular contact centre, has been awarded an MBE for services to British na tionals overseas in the New Year Honours List, published today, Thursday December 31, 2020. Michelle joined the FCDO in Malaga as a team leader in the consular contact centre, fol lowing a career in the tourism sector and a brief period work ing at the Euro Weekly News. We would like to congratulate her on receiving her award. This service answers calls from British nationals around
the world, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and allows con sular teams to focus on those that need the most help. Michelle manages a team of over 100 remote workers, with over 16 foreign languages to support, and helps them to of fer vital assistance to British nationals overseas, who are of ten in very challenging situa tions. Crucially, the changes Michelle has made to the man agement of the consular con tact centre have allowed more people to be helped, more quickly and to a higher stan dard of service. This was particularly evident during the first wave of the Covid pandemic, where from the first calls from Wuhan up until the repatriation of British nationals, call volumes in
Simply Surviving Group ON January 1, after a total of 18 years involvement, Val Williams steps down as President of Friends Of The Theatre (FOTA), which supports the Salon Varietes Theatre, Fuengirola. However, she is not ready to completely retire just yet and as the Covid pandemic developed she became more worried about businesses struggling in the Mijas and Fuengirola areas, so she set up a Facebook group called Simply Surviving Group aimed at supporting such businesses. The Simply Surviving Group is a non-profit operation. There are no joining fees, no subscriptions and it is a very simple idea kept simple.
